You may already know Grabo lifters thanks to their ability to lend a very literal helping hand
But what if they didn’t need your hands at all
The Grabo Lifter Remote Control is making that a possibility
I’ll help you understand what it does
and visualize some of the applications that make it a worthwhile upgrade
If you’re not familiar with Grabo lifters
they are tools that use vacuum pressure and a seal to put a handle on materials that are otherwise difficult to lift and move
Things like sheet goods and large-format tiles become much easier to carry
They can even attach to oddly shaped materials like landscaping rocks
Check out the Grabo Lifter that uses DeWalt 20V Max batteries!
The remote control is compelling when you need equipment to help you move material
If you have something like the aforementioned landscaping rock that’s too heavy to carry even with a second person
it’s common to use an excavator to do the heavy lifting
or otherwise wrap it up so you can lift it with cables
having a remote control to activate and release the lifters is
and release without having to leave the cab
One of my first thoughts was… what happens if you accidentally hit the release before you’re ready
There are two release buttons (top and bottom)
and you’ll need to press and hold both at the same time to signal the release
Grabo lifters don’t have pre-installed electronics to pair with the remote control
the remote system comes with a mechanical fitting you install on the handle
The remote sends an RF signal to that device to operate the controls
The biggest consequence is that you’ll have to remove the device from your Grabo when you want to use it by hand
It’s a small inconvenience for the additional versatility you gain
I’d put money on there being a Grabo in development that will have the remote control electronics built in
While you’ll need a mechanism for each Grabo
one remote can control multiple lifters at once
The remote control unit is a brilliant addition for anyone who uses equipment to move heavy materials
The time and effort savings add up quickly
Not every material is Grabo lifter friendly
The surface of some materials may cause an issue getting a good seal
Each unit’s 375-pound weight capacity is another consideration
you can share the load among multiple lifters
and the remote’s ability to control multiple lifters certainly helps

It operates on the tool maker's 20V Max battery system to generate vacuum suction when placed on non-porous and semi-porous materials
Some common material types suitable for use with the Grabo Lifter include tile
and a DeWalt-logo carrying bag to keep it all in for $349.00
Reviews for the Grabo Lifter from customers on The Home Depot are largely positive
with about 98% recommending the Grabo based on a combination of responses from the Tool Only and Kit reviews
with five reviews of the four-star variety
Only one person gave the Kit a two-star rating due to poor suction holding on 12-foot long ⅝-inch thick drywall sheets
The DeWalt Grabo Lifter Kit includes a 2.0 Ah 20V Max battery to energize Grabo's internal electric vacuum pump
The Grabo can generate enough vacuum to lift loads up to 265 pounds under ideal conditions
While it works on semi-porous and non-porous materials with both smooth and lightly textured surfaces
The good news is that the Grabo Lifter takes away any uncertainty with its built-in digital pressure display gauge that'll let you know if there's sufficient vacuum pressure before lifting the material
Safety is further enhanced by the included audio alarm that warns of critically low battery charge levels
The tool features a highly visible color LED screen and digital pressure gauge
Outdoor visibility is enhanced by the included sunshade accessory that helps to block direct sunlight
so the operator always has visual access to the tool's available load capacity and operational mode
and a fabric kit bag for carrying and storage
consider purchasing extra foam-rubber vacuum seals to quickly get the Grabo Lifter back in service should a seal become damaged during use

president Laporta and Albert Espinosa among the stars of this year's festive message to the fans
When was the last time you had to carry material awkwardly while your lower back screamed for relief
but that could be a thing of the past thanks to the DeWalt 20V Max GRABO Lifter
The GRABO Lifter is designed to help you carry materials, and this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a handle as an accessory. The Ladder Grabber was one of the first ones that got my attention
The simple addition of a handle greatly improved my hand comfort while carrying ladders
While that accessory was purely mechanical
the DeWalt GRABO Lifter is a 20V Max battery-powered vacuum handle attachment
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a vacuum help with heavy lifting, either. Festool created the Vac-Sys vacuum vice for holding sheet goods and lumber
DeWalt’s solution helps you move materials around more easily
giving it a much wider appeal for contractors and tradesmen
It has strong suction for a tool that’s not much larger than a mid-torque impact wrench
Each one can hold up to 132 pounds of material vertically
and when lifting material in a horizontal position
While you might scoff at lifting a sheet of plywood or glass panel horizontally
The GRABO Lifter has four metal rings near the corners to add a lifting strap
letting jobsite equipment take over the task
or balance the load when you’re lifting with straps
You also multiply your lifting capacity since the weight is shared across the units
There’s a sensor that detects the vacuum pressure and allows the tool to actively adjust
so both solid and semi-porous materials can work
The big thing to remember is that since the tool uses a vacuum for its strength
you need a large enough flat area for the GRABO Lifter to create a good seal
If it can and you’re within the weight limits
The controls are straightforward with one button to engage the vacuum and a second to release it
The release button includes a safety you have to engage first
A color LED screen lets you quickly check your pressure status and load capacity
and it’s bright enough to see in direct sunlight
and the kit (DCE592D1) is $349 with a 2.0Ah battery
The tool also includes three replacement dust filters

We chat with debut author Markelle Grabo about Call Forth A Fox
which is a sapphic twist on the classic fairy tale Snow White and Rose Red
especially ones that frustrate me or are lesser-known
I’m usually experiencing stories some other way (through books
I’m a communications specialist for my 9-5
and I live in the Greater Chicago area with my partner and two fluffy cats
but I decided I wanted to be a writer in 5th grade after I realized my squeamish nature wouldn’t lend itself well to a career in Marine Biology
That’s also around the time I wrote my first “novel” – a 90-page story about very dramatic mermaids
Readers can expect a unique twist on a classic fairy tale
along with a majority queer cast of characters
teens realizing the complexities of growing up and making their own choices
found family and a close-knit sister relationship
Call Forth a Fox was my first attempt at writing a fairy tale retelling
I wanted a story I didn’t grow up with to avoid any nostalgic influence
and when I first read “Snow White and Rose Red,” I knew it was the tale I needed to retell
The queer subtext surrounding animal transformation is very compelling
as well as Rose Red’s “wildness” compared to her sister
I’m also frustrated by the overwhelmingly heteronormative ending
but Rose Red marries the prince’s brother – a character we never meet
Almost like the ending has to prove the story can’t be queer
This blend of intrigue and frustration got me started on the plot
but my main character’s internal journal was inspired by events in my life
I wrote the first draft of Call Forth a Fox right after I moved from my home state of Wisconsin to Southern California
I finished edits just as I was moving from Southern California to Illinois
So a lot of Ro’s conflicted feelings about not wanting to leave a place she loves but also recognizing it might be time for something new come directly from my own experiences
I loved writing a protagonist who is fifteen
I remember more protagonists were around that age
Stories that depict older teen experiences are wonderful and necessary
and I’d love to see more of a balance reflected across the YA category
See alsoQ&A: Tess Gerritsen, Author of ‘The Spy Coast’
I also enjoyed writing a character who resists violence
but she’s trying to do that without anyone getting hurt
This means taking the harder path at times
and even confronting her own actions and behaviors because there are forms of violence that aren’t obvious at first glance
An early version of Call Forth a Fox was my thesis for my master’s in writing for children and young adults program at Hamline University
and during that period I revised the manuscript to be in first person rather than third
was instrumental in helping me find the right agents to query
and I found my perfect match in Tricia Lawrence of Erin Murphy Literary Agency in early 2021
but if there’s one thing publishing teaches you
I got the offer from Lauren Knowles at Page Street YA
Call Forth a Fox is the story it’s meant to be because of this experience
I’ve got one fairy tale retelling on submission
I can’t wait for The Girl with No Reflection
a fantasy by fellow debut author Keshe Chow
the sequel to Eliot Schrefer’s absolutely riveting The Darkness Outside Us
I’m also excited to read my friend Kalena Miller’s next middle grade
which publishes the same week as Call Forth a Fox
beautifully designed and comes with everything you need to engage your visitors and increase conversions
Grabo has made a name for itself in the vacuum-lifting world in recent years. In 2024, the brand teamed up with DeWalt to introduce its lifting technology to the 20V Max battery platform
Grabo is going solo with the High Flow vacuum lifter
and it claims better performance on a variety of materials
I’m looking into what the Grabo High Flow does differently
and how it can increase safety and productivity on the jobsite
Grabo specializes in vacuum-lifting products
The High Flow is the brand’s most advanced lifting tool to date
with more power and improved vacuum technology compared to previous iterations
Vacuum lifting technology can be a challenge to use effectively on certain materials
Where the High Flow stands out from the rest of Grabo’s lineup is its Smart Cut foam seal design that “grabs” porous objects more effectively
This performance improvement on porous and textured materials is thanks to a redesigned bottom face plate
This removable feature allows you to lock in different sizes of gaskets with the High Flow’s open-cell foam
letting it grip materials of various shapes and sizes
The High Flow has a vacuum flow rate of up to 1500 liters per minute
a significant jump from the 20 L/m seen in the Pro-Lifter 20 model
it can also lift objects up to 282 pounds in weight
Grabo made a few changes to the design of the High Flow vacuum lifter compared to previous models
which makes lifting and installing heavy materials more comfortable than previous designs
Grabo also designed the High Flow to be used with the included T-handle frame
The T-handle includes a wired remote that controls the vacuum sealing mechanism on the High Flow
the red button on the remote releases the seal
The Grabo High Flow retails for $599.99 as a kit
including two 20V 5.0Ah Grabo High Flow batteries
it’s not yet available at any online retailers
but you can purchase it directly from Grabo
Your purchase is backed by a 1-year warranty
or 18 months when you register your product

MORGANTOWN — Three games into the season and the University High School baseball team is living by the Cobra Kai motto – strike first
The Hawks (3-0) have outscored their opponents 18-0 in the first inning and that included a 4-0 start to Tuesday’s contest against visiting Linsly
UHS was unable to put the Cadets away as it hung on for a 6-5 victory
We want to score first,” UHS head coach Brad Comport said
“I think the difference (Tuesday) is we kept a really good team around and didn’t put them away when we had opportunities
and they were able to sneak back into the game.”If it weren’t for junior shortstop Daniel Grabo
the Hawks would have suffered their first loss of the season
Grabo went 2-for-4 at the plate and picked up his first save of the season by recording the final two outs on the mound
“I can’t say enough good things about Danny,” Comport said
I am just really proud of him and the entire team as a whole.”Grabo got things going early for the Hawks as he punched a two-out double to center field in the bottom of the first inning that scored three runs
He added an RBI single in the fourth inning that scored Wenkai Campbell
“Coming out strong is definitely something we focus on,” Grabo said
precise at the plate and precise with our pitching
We really focus on getting out to an early lead and scoring first.”UHS starting pitcher Logan Vance cruised through the first two innings with just a single hit before Jaxon Murray hit a one-out triple in the third inning and then scored on a groundout off the bat of Carson Gessler
Vance (1-0) wiggled out of trouble in the fourth inning as he surrendered just two runs after giving up three walks
He finished with seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits
“Logan kept us in the game and battled,” Comport said
UHS then turned to its bullpen as Mason McDonald pitched the fifth inning
Brodee Latocha pitched out of a jam in the fifth and then Grabo got the final two outs after entering with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh
“I was just trying to throw strikes,” Grabo said
they’re behind me.”Comport said he would like to see his team tack on more runs in the later innings as UHS added just two runs after the big first inning
Riley Anderson had an RBI single in the fourth inning to close the scoring out for UHS
Linsly cut the UHS lead to just one run in the top of the seventh as Evan Zido hit a one-out single and later scored on a wild pitch to make it a one-run contest
and Brance McCune each had two hits in the contest for UHS
Zido led the Cadets (1-1) with two hits and Rocco Paolina suffered the loss on the mound as he struck out five and surrendered nine hits in four innings of work

A calm and mildly sedated Brady Grabo is moved to a table in a treatment room at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson
Brady and his brother received their third dose of Spinraza
a new treatment for spinal muscular atrophy
run after their check-up for their spinal muscular atrophy
Nine-year-old Brayden “Brady” Grabo is dreading the injection he’s going to get in his spine — the third this month
He reluctantly walks behind his mom and younger brother as they head into Banner-University Medical Center Tucson
He stops and says he doesn’t want to go in
The treatment could stop the progression of his disease
but resumes following Kirsten and his 4-year-old brother
For three years he was hauled to doctor after doctor because he didn’t run or move like other kids
There were scans and movement tests at times he would rather have been in school
playing with his friends or jumping on the trampoline
degenerative neuromuscular disease with no cure
His parents were told the disease could eventually leave him unable to walk
Brady’s younger brother Beckett would be diagnosed with the same disease
And she needed to juggle it all while continuing to work full time
she also set about learning about spinal muscular atrophy
She began checking the “Cure SMA” website once or more every day
always on the lookout for a new clinical trial or treatment
She joined a Facebook page for parents of children with SMA and began corresponding with an adult in Florida who has the same type 3 SMA as her children
Life went on with a lot of physical activities to maintain the boys’ muscle strength
during one of her regular check-ins with the Neuromuscular Multispecialty Clinic at the Children’s Clinics in Tucson
Kirsten found out that a new drug to treat SMA had been approved
The drug could reduce and even reverse the progression of SMA
Even their matter-of-fact doctor refers to the way the drug Spinraza works as “almost like magic.”
But getting Spinraza would require trips to the hospital
and a lot of money — $750,000 per boy for the first 12 months
had no reason to suspect anything was wrong with Brady when he was born
“At first we thought he was not coordinated
or maybe he just wasn’t focusing when he ran,” his grandmother
SMA affects the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement
The disease is caused by mutations in the SMN1 (survival motor neuron) gene
People who develop SMA must inherit two faulty SMN1 genes
Kirsten and John had no idea until Brady was diagnosed that they were both SMA carriers
have a 25 percent chance of being affected by SMA
who is an associate professor of neurology at the University of Arizona
says her clinics in Tucson have about 20 patients — adults and children — with various types of SMA
with type 1 the most serious and affecting babies in their first few months of life
Those patients do not even sit up and can die from respiratory distress as infants
which is a milder but still progressive form of the disease
Doctors are able to type patients based on age of onset and the highest physical milestones achieved
John Grabo was working in economic development in Illinois
and the family was planning to join him there
An extroverted businessman with a big laugh who dreamed of being a CEO
he’d previously worked for the Greater Tucson Economic Council and Tech Parks Arizona
John was a conservative Republican and Kirsten is a liberal Democrat
They respected each other’s point of view,” says longtime friend and former colleague Bruce Wright
associate vice president of Tech Parks Arizona
He loved sports and most of all he loved his family
His favorite thing to do was to be at home
spending time with his family around the pool.”
John had decided he didn’t like living in Illinois and accepted a job as economic development director for the city of Sierra Vista
He’d been feeling tired as he headed out on his cross-country drive back to Tucson and by the time he arrived
A trip to the hospital revealed he had advanced leukemia
I had been traveling and Kirsten called and told me John was in the hospital and that they thought he had pneumonia,” Wright says
“The next thing I know it’s been diagnosed as leukemia and in a matter of days he passed away
“I never even got to get a chance to go to the hospital to say hi
Kirsten knew there was a chance the test would be positive
The Facebook group for parents of SMA children included several families where more than one child was affected
“I was hopeful it would be negative,” she says
She made sure the boys swam regularly and jumped on their trampoline
and she enrolled them in gymnastics classes to keep their muscles in motion
The gymnastics was more fun for the boys than physical therapy
Their story was touching to me,” says Randy Sooter
who owns Old Pueblo Gymnastics and has grown close to the Grabo boys
“They work equally hard or harder than other kids in the class and they don’t use it (SMA) as an excuse.”
Kirsten says Sooter has worked with the boys individually
Sooter and his staff are the reason both boys have stayed walking and strong
she says — part of the “village” that keeps her family going
On the website Cure SMA (curesma.org) drug pipeline chart that Kirsten checks regularly
Spinraza wasn’t initially one she thought would be approved
Spinraza has changed names three or four times since I’ve been watching,” Kirsten says
All patients with SMA have at least one copy of survival motor neuron gene 2 (SMA2)
Spinraza is synthetic genetic material that targets SMA2
causing it to make more complete SMN protein
would likely die from complications,” Scherer says
“With this drug they can start kicking their legs and hitting their milestones
Since the drug has been primarily studied in infants and younger children
it’s less clear how much motor function will be restored in older children
It could be that the drug stops further degeneration rather than restoring any function they’ve already lost
Brady can’t ride a bike and his wrists and legs turn in slightly
He prefers pants with elastic waists because buttoning and zipping are difficult
By March 31 the Grabo boys were about to get their third “loading dose” of Spinraza
The protocol calls for the first three 5ml doses to be administered at 14-day intervals by an injection in their spine
who is a fourth-grade student in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program at Fruchthendler Elementary School
so his classmates and teachers know all about it
The March 1 injection did not go as well as hoped and Brady got dehydrated and sick
both boys stayed at the hospital overnight as a precaution
It was such a rush the next day that she didn’t have time to shower or change her clothes before heading to work
On the day of the third dose Brady is anxious
His younger brother doesn’t have the same nervousness
likely because of his age and because he was never misdiagnosed
Beckett plays video games on a tablet and chats with the staff
and the treatment protocol from drug company Biogen Inc
calls for a fourth dose 30 days after the third
Maintenance doses are then required every four months
The Grabo boys were the first patients at Scherer’s clinic to get Spinraza
primarily because Kirsten’s employer-sponsored UnitedHealthcare insurance she has as an University of Arizona employee agreed to pay for it
Other patients have slowly been getting approval
but access has been an issue in other areas of the country
A spokesperson for Massachusetts-based Biogen Inc
said the company’s goal is that the patients who may benefit from Spinraza are able to receive treatment
Scherer says the cost of the drug is an issue and she is hoping for a wider array of cheaper treatments down the road
Brady tells the nurse he’s going to wait until a pill form of Spinraza is developed
Banner child life specialist Melissa Shiring steps in and entertains Brady and Beckett with a claylike compound called Model Magic
Brady forgets about his anxiety and laughs at the shapes Shiring is creating — a lemon
and the rest of the procedure goes smoothly for both boys
who get the lumbar injection while under conscious sedation
“If he didn’t rebound I may have real second thoughts
He even makes it to a birthday party that night
And an April 17 visit with Scherer is encouraging
That is really good,” Scherer tells Brady at the appointment
As she watches her boys doing gymnastics on May 8
Beckett isn’t using his arms to drag himself up onto higher surfaces — he jumps
She has come to Old Pueblo Gymnastics from work
“There’s so much going on all the time for Kirsten and the boys
I am on call when she needs me,” Stark says
Carol Grabo pitches in as a baby sitter when needed
And Kirsten’s parents often visit from Minnesota to help out
“Those boys are her whole life,” Carol Grabo says
“She had an adjustment after that hard year
She just keeps going and is always planning ahead
She also works very hard to keep John alive for the boys.”
The man with type 3 SMA in Florida that Kirsten corresponds with is still mobile
combined with her support system and the Spinraza
“I’d love to see them walk across the stage at their graduations
to dance with my boys at their weddings,” Kirsten says
“There’s so much research going on — we’re right on the cusp of lots of discovery.”
As they show off their new trendy fidget spinner toys on May 9
Brady and Beckett say they think the Spinraza is helping
“It can make us jump higher and run faster,” Beckett adds before telling a joke about a banana who goes to the doctor because he isn’t peeling well
“I know she loves us,” Brady says as Beckett nods in agreement

SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord
and in its most severe form takes away the ability to walk
It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants
It is caused by a mutation in the survival motor neuron gene 1 (SMN1)
this gene produces a protein that is critical to the function of the nerves that control our muscles
those nerve cells cannot properly function and eventually die
leading to debilitating and often fatal muscle weakness
SMA does not affect a person’s ability to think

Critics have balked at the cost of Spinraza
but the company that makes it — Biogen Inc
— says determining pricing was a "rigorous and thoughtful process."
That process "strived to achieve an appropriate balance among three key pricing principles — clinical value
and commitment to patients and advancing science through the funding of research and development," a company statement says

CINCINNATI -- Sports have been a part of Tom Grabo’s life since before he can even remember
The 29-year-old Colerain Township native -- better known as the Cincy Super Fan -- attended his first Reds game at six weeks old and grew up listening to Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall on the radio while catching fireflies in the backyard
He rarely missed a chance to watch Bengals games with his dad or to hand score a Bearcats basketball game on the self-printed cards they always kept at home
Now Grabo is found right in the center of all the action in the stands at local sporting events
most recently becoming the face of the crowd at FC Cincinnati games through the club’s first two seasons
He is easy to find even among the most electric crowds at Nippert Stadium
decked out in orange and blue body paint with a cape and cowboy hat
as he helps lead the chants in The Bailey and encourages the players on the field
Tom Grabo waves a flag and releases blue smoke as part of the fired up Bailey during FC Cincinnati’s U.S
supporting FC Cincinnati as it hosts Ottawa Fury FC in an attempt to bounce back from the two biggest losses in club history
“You can always map out who I’m rooting for based on the distance from my house
FC Cincinnati has just made it that much easier to support with how well they run things and the unique atmosphere they provide at games.”
Grabo started his Super Fan getup in 2013 when he told some people he would paint his whole body in Reds colors if he got Opening Day tickets
the first one being as a senior in 2005 while supporting his Colerain High School football team during a 10-2 season
It turned out Grabo got the Opening Day tickets a few weeks ahead of the game
the predicted temperature for Opening Day kept dropping
Figuring he needed at least a little something to cover up
as well as protect his car seat from turning red
and one in particular helped give him his nickname
marches with fans to a match against Richmond at Nippert Stadium in 2016
“I gave a kid a high five and took a picture with him
‘What are your super powers?’” Grabo recalled
‘I’m really loud and can do fun cheers.’ So then he asks what my name is and I asked him what it should be and he comes up with Superman Reds Fan
but then as I started going to other games
I figured I couldn’t just be Superman Reds Fan
Grabo originally had planned to paint up just for that game
but the kids and other fans liked it so much
He had also met the Power Stack Pack -- a group of similarly enthusiastic fans sitting behind the power stacks in the outfield at Great American Ball Park -- that day and found he fit in well with his new look
He and the other 20 or so fans in the Pack quickly became friends and attended about 50 games together
The group has since diminished and mostly just keeps in touch on Facebook
but Grabo has kept up his enthusiasm and taken it to other arenas
Grabo doesn’t just dress up like a Super Fan for attention
which brings together his biggest passions
It’s become his mission in adulthood to spread his own enthusiasm for Cincinnati sports teams to others
particularly kids who might not otherwise get to experience sporting events live
and that’s where the non-profit Sports Games for Kids comes in
Grabo and some of his friends from the Power Stack Pack decided to incorporate their love of Cincinnati sports and a desire to make a difference in kids’ lives by founding what started out as Reds Games for Kids in 2014
people wanting to take pictures and give us high fives
and we started thinking about how we could use that to make a difference in our community,” Grabo said
“We realized how fortunate we were as kids to be able to go to sporting events and develop a passion for Cincinnati sports teams
and we wanted to help others experience that too.”
but after raising some money and successfully bringing 85 kids and chaperones -- identified with help from the Cincinnati Children’s Home -- to a Reds game
Tom Grabo can always be spotted in the front row at home matches in Nippert Stadium
they received their 501(c)3 charity status
and brought 215 kids and parents to five different sporting events with an average cost of $20 per person
with help from three different public fundraising events
a total of 412 kids and parents participated in Sports Games for Kids at seven sports events
including games for the University of Cincinnati basketball and football teams
Groups usually include 60-70 kids and parents
"The mission of Sports Games for Kids is to share the joy of professional and collegiate sporting events with children facing hardships in their young lives such as abuse
poverty and physical or mental health conditions,” Grabo said
“We hope to bring these kids a day of fun at the ballpark or stadium
which they may otherwise never experience as a child."
The organization has grown steadily every year as more sponsors have jumped on board
Cincinnati Soccer Talk last year began what is becoming an annual Foot Golf Tournament to support Sports Games for Kids
and this weekend will be hosting its second event at 2 p.m
Cost is $200 per team with spots still available and all proceeds benefit Sports Games for Kids
The event raised more than $1,800 last year
“We were looking at how we could get the community involved in something and thought Foot Golf would be fun but didn’t want to profit off it
so we decided to help a charity,” Cincinnati Soccer Talk co-host Brad Weigel said
“We knew Tom just as a friend from FC Cincinnati games and went to him
Grabo said Sports Games for Kids does fundraisers every few months
but word of mouth has helped bring in donations as well
and they ask why I do this so I hand them a card and show them the charity,” Grabo said
so I’ve used the attention to get the word out about the charity
We’ve got three or four companies sponsoring us now
Weigel said that is one thing he especially respects about Grabo
“Tom has done a great job rallying the community around the charity,” Weigel said
“His heart is huge and wanting to help these kids
and it’s cool to see it’s a labor of love for him.”
FC Cincinnati games are especially enjoyable for the kids
crediting the club for its family-friendly atmosphere
Sports Games for Kids participants sit in the general admission section on the south side of the stadium
and Grabo said it’s perfect for the kids to be able to watch the rowdy fans in The Bailey without being too close
The evening begins with dinner out around campus -- Grabo said the organization wants to give its participants the “full experience” of attending a game – and the kids learn and practice the chants there before attending the game
“I get calls or texts that kids are still doing the chants at home and they’ll be watching games on TV and go crazy when they see me in The Bailey,” Grabo said
“It’s something you definitely don’t get with other sports.”
which operates the concessions stands at Nippert
has been helpful in scheduling orders in advance and providing large boxes to transport food and beverages to the group during games
Sports Games for Kids also purchased five season tickets in The Bailey to allow families to experience a game there as well
Weigel said Grabo is a role model fan for FC Cincinnati -- one the club can be proud to associate with and one that other fans can look to follow
“He’s shown to be a good vehicle for the club and helping the crowd,” Weigel said
“He’s someone people can rally behind because they see it’s his love for the city
He is doing it for love of the city and kids and marrying them through his organization
We’re happy to support him and what he’s doing with Sports Games for Kids.”
FC Cincinnati coach Alan Koch said he shared a beer with Grabo after the 1-0 win over Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew in the U.S
and it was clear within five minutes how “awesome of a human being” Grabo is
Tom Grabo cheers on FC Cincinnati against Orlando City B at Nippert Stadium on Aug
Koch noted how genuine Grabo is and said it is no surprise what he does for the community
Even the players have noticed Grabo among the sea of orange and blue at games and other club events and are glad to have him representing them in the community
“He’s pretty recognizable,” midfielder Corben Bone said
“He’s gone further than most to support us
and it’s great to see someone dive in like that to our team and culture
He’s a big-time supporter and people follow his lead
He’s not afraid to show his support and galvanize others around him
He sets a great example for FC Cincinnati support around the city
and we’re fortunate to have fans like that.”

Chris Farley began to voice Shrek before his untimely death
when Mike Myers went on to define the role
BY Joe Berkowitz
Chris Farley never really got his due. A comedic actor with impeccable timing, physicality, voice modulation, and a willingness to go all the way, he too often got pigeonholed into the self-described box, Fatty Falls Down
The tragedy of his death is that the last couple projects he worked on did nothing to change that perception
although the ones he had in the hopper just might’ve done the trick
Some newly surfaced footage finally gives us a glimpse of the alternate universe where Chris Farley went on to play Shrek
two projects in development had Farley branching out
One was a biopic about silent film star Fatty Arbuckle
which would’ve been his first dramatic film; the other was Shrek
Farley had recorded about 85% of his lines
in a version of the film that was much different than the one we now know
According to Brad Evans’s terrific assessment of the lost roles of Chris Farley for Splitsider
“There was talk of having a Farley impersonator record the last portions but that plan was scrapped
‘We spent a year banging our heads against the wall until Mike Myers came onboard
Chris’s Shrek and Mike’s Shrek are really two completely different characters
as much as Chris and Mike are two completely different people.’ Myers asked that the script be completely rewritten so that he wouldn’t be starring in the Chris Farley version of the film.”
Now that footage has surfaced on Reddit
we can see how the lovable ogre would’ve resonated with Farley’s voice
and imagine what might have been–both for the character

PEWAUKEE – Ellen Grabo may be one of the official owners of Brewers Two Café just feet away from the shores of Pewaukee Lake
but she would prefer that her guests not think of it that way
It was over 16 years ago that Grabo opened the first Brewers Two with her sister Eileen Belongea in Waukesha
and although a lot has changed in terms of different locations and even the original concept to an extent
the sisters have remained steadfast in their commitment to making the cafe feel like home
after being in professional careers in the corporate world
to go it alone and have our own little business and have a little bit more control in our own lives,” Grabo said
We used to set up little outdoor coffee bars at different special events like art fairs.”
The sisters took their mobile coffee bars to events while continuing to work their regular jobs for about six years before they decided to pull the trigger on the next step
“We finally decided it was time for four walls,” Grabo said
Grabo and Belongea planned to have their business focus entirely on coffee
but it quickly became clear that they wanted food to have a bigger role in Brewers Two
“My mom had always taught us how to cook and bake
and so we started putting some recipes to the test,” Grabo said
“I pretty quickly decided that I didn’t want to eat frozen food pulled out of the freezer
Now we do pretty much everything from scratch.”
That particular change happened quickly for Brewers Two
but the rest of the road has been more dynamic
with the Pewaukee location opening in 2007 and an Oconomowoc cafe also popping up
We were only there for about three years,” Grabo said
that’s when I was kind of looking around
and I heard about this place and I was like ‘Count me in.’ ”
The original Waukesha cafe eventually closed in 2014 as the sisters decided to consolidate operations of Brewers Two into the Pewaukee location where it enjoys a loyal following of coffee-drinkers and diners
especially in the summer when you can see people across the street having fun on the beach
and everyone is out enjoying the town,” said Pewaukee resident John Ferry
Grabo and Belongea bring in coffee from Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co
while making sure to keep blends on a steady rotation
We love working with other local businesses
We keep it pretty fresh and keep rotating it,” Grabo said
Brewers Two’s specialties include four different salads all made fresh
a wide array of salads and soups brought in daily from The Soup Market in Bayview
“Everybody calls in and asks what soups we have that day,” Grabo said
With over a decade and a half of experience and two past locations in the rearview mirror
Grabo and Belongea have no specific plans for the future of Brewers Two
but they’re also just along for the ride
along with the rest of the people who call their cafe home
“What I love is when I see the same people in grocery stores or Costco or Sam’s Club
and they’ll come up and talk to me and they’ll say ‘My coffee shop,’ ” Grabo said
“I love that they call it ‘My coffee shop,’ because that’s what it should be.”

The Seinfeld writer who gave the world Festivus reveals the origins of the holiday—invented by his father, not Frank Costanza
and featuring clocks and wailing children rather than the famous pole—which are pretty dark indeed
Dan O’Keefe, who also worked on iconic shows such as Silicon Valley and Veep, joined The Daily Beast’s Fever Dreams podcast to talk about satire in the post-Trump age. But first, he gave hosts Will Sommer and Asawin Suebsaeng a surrealist tour through how Festivus came to be.
“It was a holiday that was unique to our family. That was ostensibly a strength. And it didn’t have a set date.. in real life it could just happen whenever the fuck he felt like it, or was extremely hung over and wanted to jump-start his synapses. In one year, there were two for some reason; one year, there were none. You never knew when it was coming.”
One real-life feature of the holiday that did make it into Seinfeld lore was the legendary Airing of Grievances. “It was just a very formalized setting for yelling at us,” O’Keefe notes. “Yeah, growing up, myself and my two brothers were in a form of child abuse that yet wasn’t recognized as such by the state of New York, induced to perform seasonal rituals.”
“They say, ‘Jerry thinks this is hilarious and we want to put it in the show.’ And I tried to dissuade them.”“Every time we asked him about [the clock and bag], he literally screamed at us—‘That’s not for you to know,’ for some reason, that was what he said. So we celebrated this thing and my brothers and I quickly realized you don’t talk about this at school or you get more beatings than you’re already getting.”
But O’Keefe’s colleagues sensed comic gold and lured him to a diner in order to convince him to include Festivus in the show
These are like the head writers of the show
‘Jerry thinks this is hilarious and we want to put it in the show.’ And I tried to dissuade them as convincingly as I could
‘I have the greatest love and respect for the show
It’s done nothing to deserve that.’ But they said
it can go in your episode or someone else’s.’ So I figure
that I might as well be the hand doing the smearing.”
O’Keefe and the Fever Dreams co-hosts also discuss how Festivus has been co-opted by Republican politics—if you Google the words “Festivus Trump” you’ll see what they mean—and debate whether social and political satire can actually address the Donald J
Trump presidency or whether it’s “just too horrible and fresh” for comedians to be able to make fun of something “so already preposterous and absurd and awful.”
O’Keefe also reveals that Trump’s presidency changed the story arc of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character on Veep
“We found when looking at those whiteboards that the bar for a corrupt
and just downright evil presidency had been considerably lowered or raised—whichever the correct one is—and that what we had at the time put together
it was sort of quaint in a world where it was suggested that you should inject bleach into yourself
So we had to pretty much scrap Season 7 and rewrite the whole thing
“It shows the Selena [Meyer] character subverting an election with foreign aid and allowing and encouraging a devoted underling to go to the penitentiary—and just becoming a monster.”

run the following command to open the configuration file to rewrite the kernel version name
nano.config
Rewrite the part marked 'CONFIG_LOCALVERSION='○○○○' with an easy-to-understand name
it was written as 'CONFIG_LOCALVERSION='-v8_16k'
so I changed it to 'CONFIG_LOCALVERSION='-v8_16kradeon' and saved it
run the following command to compile the kernel
make -j4 Image.gz modules dtbs
While the kernel is being compiled
the progress will be displayed in a staggered manner as shown below
Please wait as it will take about an hour for the compilation to complete
run the following command to install the kernel module
run the following commands in order to copy the necessary files
cp arch/arm64/boot/dts/broadcom/*.dtb /boot/firmware/

cp arch/arm64/boot/dts/overlays/*.dtb* /boot/firmware/overlays/

cp arch/arm64/boot/dts/overlays/README /boot/firmware/overlays/

cp arch/arm64/boot/Image.gz /boot/firmware/$KERNEL.img
Next
execute the following commands in order to install the library 'memcpy_unaligned.c' required to start the GUI
wget https://gist.githubusercontent.com/Coreforge/91da3d410ec7eb0ef5bc8dee24b91359/raw/b4848d1da9fff0cfcf7b601713efac1909e408e8/memcpy_unaligned.c

gcc -shared -fPIC -o memcpy.so memcpy_unaligned.c

mv memcpy.so /usr/local/lib/memcpy.so
Next
create a configuration file that allows 'memcpy' to be loaded at system startup
nano /etc/ld.so.preload
Once a blank file is created
write '/usr/local/lib/memcpy.so' and save it
edit the firmware configuration file by running the following command:
nano /boot/firmware/config.txt
Once the configuration file opens
add the following two lines at the end: Raspberry Pi 5 is said to be compatible with PCIe Gen2 according to the specifications
but by writing 'dtparam=pciex1_gen=3' in the firmware configuration file
high-speed connection with PCIe Gen3 is possible
run the following command to rewrite the EEPROM
rpi-eeprom-config --edit
When the editing screen opens
rewrite the contents of the file as shown below and save it
run the following command to restart the system
sudo su
Run the following command to check the kernel version
uname -a
If the kernel version name is as configured
the kernel compilation and installation was successful
After confirming that the kernel has been installed correctly
execute the following command to shut down the system
halt
◆3: Connect the graphics board and output the screen Now that the kernel compilation and firmware preparations are complete
it's time to connect the graphics board to Raspberry Pi 5
The general flow of connection is ``First connect the dummy card and make it recognized
then replace the dummy card with the graphic board and make it recognized.'' The specific steps are as follows
attach the dummy card to Raspberry Pi 5 and turn it on
Execute the following command to check whether Raspberry Pi 5 can recognize the dummy card
lspci
We confirmed that the card was recognized with the name 'Communication controller: LSI Corporation Device'
run the following command to check the connection information details
lspci -nn
The command execution result looks like this
Make a note of '0000:01:00.0' at the beginning of the line containing 'Communication controller: LSI Corporation Device' and the four-digit number '0630' at the end
This '0000:01:00.0' indicates the location of the device as seen from the PCI bus
in order to manipulate the connection status of the dummy card
execute the following command to find the directory to be manipulated
find /sys/devices | grep 0000:01:00.0
The directories displayed in a row in the search results are the target directories
you can see that '/sys/devices/platform/axi/1000110000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/0000:01:00.0' is the directory to be operated on
To confirm that the target directory is correct
note down the path of the file named 'device' in the target directory
note '/sys/devices/platform/axi/1000110000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/0000:01:00.0/device'
run the following command to check the contents of the file
cat /sys/devices/platform/axi/1000110000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/0000:01:00.0/device
It is OK if the contents of the file include the device location and device ID
The execution result this time is as follows
and it contains the device location '0000:01:00.0' and the device ID '0630'
execute the command below to write 1 to the 'remove' file in the target directory to remove the dummy card from the system using software
echo '1'> /sys/devices/platform/axi/1000110000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/0000:01:00.0/remove
Run the following command to check the device connection status
lspci
You can see that the removal was successful because 'Communication controller: LSI Corporation Device' is not included in the execution results of 'lspci'
physically remove the dummy card from the Raspberry Pi 5
Then connect the graphics board to Raspberry Pi 5
write '1' to the 'rescan' file located one level above the target directory and rescan the device
The commands to be executed are as follows
echo '1'> /sys/devices/platform/axi/1000110000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/rescan
Next
run the following command to check the device connection status
lspci
The execution result looks like this
The fact that it says 'Radeon RX 550 640SP / RX 560/560X' indicates that the graphics board is recognized
try running ``dmesg'' to check the kernel logs
dmesg
The execution result looks like this
If an error related to 'AMD GPU' is output
it is likely that the module has failed to load
so you will need to recompile the kernel from the beginning
It seems that the graphics board has been successfully recognized
so execute the following command to load the kernel module for AMD GPU
the CLI screen should appear on the display
Now you can connect the graphics board to Raspberry Pi 5 and output the screen
◆4: Start the GUI and try moving the GPU around Since the screen output was successful
we will proceed with the operation from here using the keyboard connected to the Raspberry Pi 5
Execute the following command to start the GUI
wayfire-pi
After waiting for a while
there is a problem that the mouse pointer is not displayed
so you can perform operations such as ``bring up the right-click menu'' and ``try dragging on the screen.'' If you know the position of the mouse pointer
although it is difficult to say it is practical
install the 3D benchmark software ``glmark2'' and the operating status monitoring software ``radeontop'' to move the graphic board
start the terminal using your mouse and keyboard
sudo su
Install 'glmark2' and 'radeontop' by running the following commands in order
apt install glmark2

apt install -y libdrm-dev libncurses-dev libxcb-dri2-0-dev

git clone https://github.com/clbr/radeontop.git

cd radeontop

make
Once the installation is complete
run 'glmark2' to make the graphics board perform 3D processing
glmark2
The execution screen of 'glmark2' looks like this
open another terminal and execute the following commands in order
cd radeontop

./radeontop
Now you can monitor the operating status while performing CG processing on the graphics board
when I first learned that ``Raspberry Pi 5 supports PCIe connection''
I fantasized about connecting a graphic board that is overwhelmingly larger than Raspberry Pi 5 and outputting screen output
it was not possible due to problems such as ``Unable to recognize NVIDIA GPU'' and ``Raspberry Pi 5's 3.3V current is low.''

The GeForce RTX 4090 significantly outperforms the previous generation GeForce RTX 3090 on all scores
nearly doubling the scores in Port Royal and Fire Strike Ultra
TechSpot compares the average frame rate (fps) when playing games on various graphics boards. The result of running ' Dying Light 2 Stay Human ' with 4K / high image quality setting is as follows
The average fps of the GeForce RTX 4090 is 104 fps
which greatly exceeds the result (66 fps) of the top model of the previous generation
The GeForce RTX 4090 supports NVIDIA's AI super-resolution technology 'DLSS 3.0'. As a result of running the game ' Cyberpunk 2077 ' that supports DLSS 3.0 with 4K and high image quality settings
when DLSS 3.0 is enabled with ray tracing disabled
As mentioned above, the GeForce RTX 4090 has overwhelming performance, but Ars Technica is displeased with the size of the body. The photo below shows the GeForce RTX 4090 on the left and the game machine ' Xbox Series S ' on the right
it is essential to check whether it can be stored in a PC case
Engadget also complains about the need for four PCIe 8-pin cables and the high power consumption of 450W
even when the GeForce RTX 4090 was heavily loaded
so it seems that it has the cooling performance to match the high power consumption

This black chip attached to the board is the memory chip
Eight chips of 1 Gbit each make a total of 1 GB
And this is the chip to be replaced, the capacity is doubled to 2Gbit. dosdude1 then dipped the chip in soldering
This is what it looks like while warming up
I will remove the chip while applying flux to the chip of the graphic board and heating it
Use a light to carefully check for any misalignment
Wipe off the flux on the board and you're done
I will actually install the graphic board and test it
