The tinkerers began applying controls they’d been developing for the motorcycle to water heaters, and Intellihot was born. The Galesburg, Illinois maker of tankless water heating systems and other smart technology devices has more than 100 employees and has raised more than $60 million of funding.

A unique parachute wedding dress has once again crossed the Atlantic and is exhibited at a museum in Halmstad
premiere of the documentary film Lucky Strike — When the Americans arrived
about the American flight crews that landed in central Sweden during WWII
One of the film's main characters was a Swedish-American "war bride" Kerstin Kahlow whose unique parachute wedding dress has once again crossed the Atlantic and is exhibited at the army museum in Halmstad
and his B-17 Flying Fortress are in 1944 hit hard by air defense over Germany
but the pilot manages to miraculously save his plane and crew to Sweden
Pete becomes head of a group traveling around Sweden to repair the emergency landed U.S
During one of the trips he meets young Kerstin Kahlow from Halmstad
They fall deeply in love and are about to get married
so how does a young bride get enough rationing coupons for a wedding dress
Kerstin comes up with the amazing idea of using her husband-to-be's parachute for the dress
In the evenings and nights she sews a marvelous wedding dress of a material so nice that no one in Sweden has seen anything like it
and a glorious wedding is held at Sperlingsholms Chapel in Halmstad
Jan-Olof Nilsson was truly amazed: “I was so impressed by Kerstin's story that I simply had to travel to America to film this 94-year-old wonderful woman
When the staff at the museum in Halmstad watched my movie on TV they were excited and asked me to contact her to ask if it was possible to borrow the dress for a special show about the war years.”
Kerstin and her wedding dress are really the main attraction
this beautiful bridal dress has once again crossed the Atlantic—truly a wedding dress with an extraordinary Swedish-American history

Jamf has become one of Eau Claire’s highest-profile businesses
thanks in no small part to the firm’s new downtown office building and the community involvement pursued by the company and its co-founder
which makes software to manage Apple devices
again made headlines last month when it announced that it had received a majority investment from Vista Equity Partners
a technology investment firm based in Austin
What does this mean for this homegrown company now that it is owned by outside investors
What opportunities does it present for the Jamf and its 700 employees
Volume One talked with Halmstad about what the future holds for the company he founded
Zach Halmstad: We sold a majority of the shares of Jamf to Vista
Jamf as an entity is still exactly the same
We concluded that Vista’s proposal offered a great milestone for our employees
we felt we had a unique moment in time to partner with a company that shared a deep understanding of the software industry and what makes a great technology company
We felt other ownership options could distract us from continuing our mission
We believe this partnership with Vista will help Jamf accelerate its mission to help organizations succeed with Apple
While we retain the possibility of going public one day
the idea of remaining an independent private company was more appealing at this time
The have an incredible amount of expertise that they bring to the table
Jamf will now be in a family with almost 50 other high-performing software and technology companies that can be partners
I will continue be a significant shareholder going forward
I have not had any operating role at Jamf since Dean Hager became CEO over two years ago
so my role as a support and promoter of Jamf in the community and economy will remain the same
It is critical to have a board of directors that has the right skills and experience for that phase of life
Our board got pretty sophisticated by the time of the Vista transaction and I found that I was most useful as an industry connector and supporter of Jamf’s values system and org
most of which took place outside of the boardroom
almost entirely due to my confidence in Dean and the whole Jamf org
and I’m forever grateful to Dean for the extraordinarily smooth transition
Since I stepped out of a formal role two years ago
I will be available for anything that Jamf wants me to help with
and will sustain relationships with all of my friends and colleagues from Jamf that I’ve made around the world
The 2018 plans we had before Vista showed interest are the exact plans that Vista is expecting us to execute next year
This means continued hiring in all of our offices to meet these plans
We hope to be more aggressive with our growth
including looking at acquisitions we might make of smaller companies
I’ve been asked about this almost non-stop since the investment was announced
The performance of the Eau Claire office should give everyone confidence in the future here
Our Customer Success team is largely based out of Eau Claire
and they deliver better than anybody in the industry
Our customer satisfaction and customer success is one of the key attributes that drove Vista’s interest
We also have large groups of our product and engineering teams in Eau Claire
and this knowledge is incredibly valuable to our organization
I expect us to continue to grow our presence in Eau Claire
I believe this is an opportunity to put Eau Claire on the radar of other companies
other companies should look to what we are doing
and we hope Jamf grows so large and respected that others will look to us as an example of what can be done from our key regions around the world
it will give me an opportunity to work on some more projects that we want to see happen in Eau Claire
We are also starting a foundation that will be one of my primary focuses going forward
There are some new projects that we want to start exploring under Pablo [Properties]
which is the company that we started to build the Jamf building
We have a lot of ideas that we are brainstorming on right now
We’ll continue to invest in Eau Claire
and now have a better opportunity to do that
I do think that Jamf benefits from the same developments that are getting Eau Claire in the news
This is why we’ve been so active in the redevelopment of downtown
It creates a better community for the employees of Jamf to live in
This year we have had at least 12 people relocate to Eau Claire
and my hope is that we continue to make it a more and more attractive city to come live in
I fully expect Jamf to continue to have a long-term presence in Eau Claire
Vista is a company that invests in growing
healthy companies and is committed to strengthening the communities where their companies operate
They were interested in Jamf because of everything that we do
and the people throughout Jamf are the most important part of that
I am confident that they will be a good steward of Jamf
and we would not have entered into this agreement if we didn’t feel that way

To someone unfamiliar with the Swedish response to COVID-19, this mask ban might sound shocking. After all, while masks are not foolproof, there is evidence that indicates that they do help reduce the spread of COVID-19
especially in situations where maintaining distance is impossible – such as schools
The municipality eventually backed down. But new examples of mask bans keep popping up in Sweden. Librarians in the affluent town of Kungsbacka, for example, have been instructed not to wear masks
How on earth did we end up in this situation
everything the Halmstad and Kungsbacka officials have said about masks is in line with the Swedish public health agency’s statements
These local mask bans are a logical product of nine months of consistent anti-mask statements by the Swedish state
which we argue is an example of poor risk communication
most Europeans are now used to wearing masks indoors whether in the supermarket
on public transport or when visiting the doctor
It has become such an ingrained habit that we can easily forget that
for the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic
the main message was the rather simple “wash your hands” and the rather more difficult “don’t touch your face”
The Swedish public health agency has consistently stated that masks are ineffective and that their use could actually increase the spread of COVID-19 – a common view at the beginning of the pandemic but a rare one now
In July, the health minister, Lena Hallengren, explained that the Swedish government did not have a culture or tradition of making decisions about protective clothing such as masks
and that her government would not overrule the public health agency
Sweden’s mask policy even went beyond its national borders, into international anti-mask activism. In April, the country’s chief epidemiologist, Anders Tegnell, wrote an email to the European Centre for Disease Control (which happens to be based in Stockholm)
warning it not to recommend the use of masks
The reasoning was that this “implies the spread is airborne”
which would “seriously harm further communication and trust”
How did we get here? Back in spring 2020, when SARS-CoV-2 was still a new and poorly understood virus, the Swedish communication around COVID-19 was a simple and consistent tripartite mantra: wash your hands
This will be familiar to people in many other countries
and is a textbook example of effective risk communication
The WHO guidelines for effective risk communication in public health crises emphasise that uncertainties should be explicitly stated
that the information is consistent and easy to understand
and that the messaging contains specific and realistic recommended actions
The initial stages of Swedish risk communication ticked two of these boxes
which was the case in many countries which also chose very simple messages
Swedish authorities maintained their anti-mask position until December, when the prime minister, Stefan Lofven, announced a U-turn on the use of masks on public transport
But Lofven’s new policy was not a simple rule to wear masks when travelling
it recommends the use of masks from 7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm
for those born “in 2004 and before” who do not have a reserved seat
It is perhaps unsurprising, then, that compliance has been low, with only half of commuters actually wearing masks during rush hour
And it’s not just the general public. Two weeks after the recommendation was introduced, the director of Sweden’s public health agency, Johan Carlson, was spotted without a mask on a bus during rush hour. When asked about his failure to comply with his own recommendations, he said
“I simply failed to notice that the time had become commuting time,” which nicely illustrates the problem with overly complex risk communication
If the head of the public health agency is incapable of following his own rules
one can hardly blame the public for their lack of compliance
the Swedish government’s initial risk communication (the tripartite mantra) was straightforward and easy to understand
authorities had been warning of the risks of mask-wearing for months
So the public transport announcement was not only confusing due to its complexity but also due to the fact that its content directly contradicts the mask guidance from March until December
it’s no wonder that libraries and schools in Sweden are sending mixed messages about whether people should wear masks
It’s the product of months of bad risk communication on a simple public health measure that has been widely adopted elsewhere. This failure to communicate could have very worrying results: potentially increased infection in a country which is on the brink of a third wave

In a bustling town square in Halmstad, Sweden, beneath the surface of Lilla Torg, an archaeological revelation has come to light. Recent excavations led by the Cultural Environment of Halland uncovered a total of 49 graves dating back to the medieval period
all concealed beneath a former convent that functioned from 1494 to 1531
one particularly stood out—a burial housing the remains of a towering elite man
Archaeologists meticulously unearthed a skeleton measuring an impressive 6 feet 2 inches
clad with a remarkably well-preserved longsword resting on his left side
An X-ray examination unveiled an intricate inlaid decoration featuring two crosses
This discovery prompted experts to assert that the presence of such a weapon indicated the deceased’s high social standing or elite status
archaeologists promptly took measures to preserve and further study the sword
It was carefully wrapped and dispatched to a laboratory for detailed analysis
while ongoing excavations at Lilla Torg continue
once part of the Franciscan monastery of Sankta Annas during the 15th century
Earlier excavations in 1932 had revealed remnants of the monastery kitchen and church
and this recent exploration brought to light additional sections of the monastery church
The sword find at Lilla Torg confirms that Sankta Anna’s church was used as a burial place for people of noble birth during the 35 years of Franciscan operation on the site
This conclusion aligns with the historical timeline of the Franciscan order’s presence
further corroborated by the discovery of two additional graves adjacent to the elite man’s
one belonging to an adult woman and the other to a man
located approximately 270 miles southwest of Stockholm
Halmstad’s historic center took shape in the 1320s as part of the Kingdom of Denmark
leading to subsequent repurposing of its land for purposes such as an armory and hospital

three girl scouts and a mom were killed in a hit and run in Lake Hallie
Now a pavilion stands outside Halmstad Elementary in Chippewa Falls
Autumn Helgeson and Jayna Kelley attended school
and since then the families have been busy working on the finishing touches
"This is the school that Jayna and Autumn would have graduated from fifth grade last week so this project is pretty near and dear to us and we hope the kids will be able to use it for a long time," says Jayna's dad Brian Kelley
Next Step Energy recently installed solar panels to the roof of the pavilion along with solar powered benches to charge a phone or laptop
The solar energy additions were made possible thanks to donations from Rutledge Charities
Next Step Energy and the Kelley & Helgeson families
"We really wanted solar energy and the kids to be able to learn about solar energy and it will also help to power the school," Brian says
A website will be set up for kids to see how much energy the solar panels are producing
Girl Scout troop 3055 has also built "little free libraries" outside the pavilion as their Bronze Award project
"One will be for children's books and the other will be for any other kind of books they are pretty proud that they got to be put in," says Robin Kelley
The Kelleys say they are also waiting on some donated bushes and trees to plant around the pavilion from a girl scout troop in Nebraska
the gates to the pavilion are currently locked
but the Kelleys hope people will be able to enjoy it soon
"It feels good to have something good come out of what happened and see people remember Jayna
Royal Credit Union and local car dealers helped raise over $80,000 for this project
In honor of Jayna's 11th birthday on June 10
her family is rolling out a foundation in her honor
They hope to raise money for local charities
