A noise suppression test cell is to be built by Hedemora Industriakustik for GE Energy in Bergen for the testing of North Sea platform gas turbines
The facility is scheduled for completion in June
the sound suppression cell will be used for the operational testing each year of on average thirty LM 2500 and LM 2500+ gas turbine engines used for power generation in the North Sea
The test cell will have the ability to reduce noise emissions from PWL 160 dB to 55 dB at 100 meters via a building measuring 45 meters long
the sound proofing components of the test cell will consist of an inlet stack with an air intake silencer and a screen of vanes for turning the direction of the air flow
Intake air will pass through a bias screen into the acoustically lined concrete test cell for which Hedemora will also supply sound-proofed double doors and a personnel access door
This will be followed by an exhaust tube that carries gases into an exhaust stack fitted with an exhaust silencer
The unique characteristics of the Hedemora system arise from the use of bar silencers
These have been designed to achieve higher performance than conventional muffler silen-cers that employ continuous panels of sound-absorbing material and which expose just two surfaces to the air or exhaust gas flow
The bar design employs a number of square columns of sound-absorbing material that are suspended within the air intake and exhaust stack
Since the air passes over all four sides of each bar
Hedemora designers can expose a higher surface area of sound-absorbing material in an array that occupies less section area than conventional mufflers
The bar silencers provide a secondary benefit in relation to air intake performance
The flat panels of a conventional system need to be aligned in accordance with the prevailing wind to ensure optimum airflow entry
Crosswinds can affect the intake silencer's air flow performance
This is not a problem with bar silencers as their symmetrical configuration offers almost the same performance
the bar silencer design also has the advantage of being very cost effective when compared with conventional systems
It is also easier to install or dismantle for maintenance in locations where space may be limited
Since the bar components can be installed individually they are easier to handle than the large flat baffles of a conventional system
Hedemora Industriakustik has been designing sound suppression systems for over 40 years and this experience makes it possible for the company's designers to plan a system very quickly
The only information needed is the sound power level and the thrust of the engine to be silenced and this can be efficiently converted into the plans for an effective system
The company's sound suppression enclosures for offshore applications are manufactured mainly from stainless steel or aluminum
This is used for the main structure and to contain mineral wool that serves as the sound-absorbent material
The wool will be deployed in the thicknesses necessary for absorbing the low frequency sound from the engine while the length of the silencer bars themselves and the size of the gaps be-tween them will be determined by the high frequency sound absorption requirements
The company will usually call-upon one of three different types of mineral wool in densities in the range of 80-110 kg/cu meter
This will be distributed in varying thicknesses around the installation and may reach 750 mm on the exhaust tube where it will also be required to withstand temperatures of 200-300°C
Hedemora Industriakustik is based in Hede-mora
it also designs and manufactures sound suppressant steam and gas turbine enclosures for offshore and marine use
acoustic panels and hush houses for military aircraft testing - having built its first silencer for the Swedish Air Force in 1953
The company expects to deliver some 20 systems this year

The Impact of a more efficient turbocharger on your engine
Hedemora Turbo & Diesel has been in the locomotive engines retrofit business for more than 10 years and understands the importance of a good symbiosis between the engine and the turbocharger
The locomotive fleet all over the world is modernising but there are still a lot of older models in operation
We know how important it is for locomotive owners and operators to have the possibility to extend engine life and reduce fuel consumption and emissions at the same time
More efficient turbochargers increase the intake pressure and decrease the exhaust backpressure
These two parameters are important for overall engine performance
Both improvements are realised in the following test when the engine is upgraded to the HS5800 turbocharger
resulting in significant improvement in the scavenging gradient across the operating range
This is perhaps the best overall illustration of the beneficial impact that a more efficient turbocharger has on the in-cylinder dynamics of the engine
Hedemora Turbo & Diesel engineers adapt turbochargers to suit your needs – from concept through to installation

When a family of four from a town of about 7,000 people gets dropped into a massive city on the other side of the world
The Boqvists of Hedemora, Sweden, are not a typical family. A little more than 24 hours after this meeting in downtown Dallas, Adam Boqvist was going to hear his name called in the 2018 NHL draft
He would instantly become one of the top prospects for whatever team selected him
Just like the guy sitting next to him. Jesper Boqvist was the No
36 pick in the 2017 NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils
and one year later he is comfortably one of the top two prospects in the organization
Across a table in the lobby of this posh hotel
Patric and Helena Boqvist are now veterans of this rare hockey parenting adventure
with some translation help from Martin Nilsson
Nilsson noted that Patric was emotionally drained last year after the draft was over
but this trip feels “more like a holiday” with a laugh
The Boqvists were still nervous with anticipation for their youngest son
but there was a different kind of confidence that comes with the familiarity of what to expect
The four of them were in Chicago a year ago for the 2017 draft
Friday came and went without Jesper’s name being called
That can lead to a long night for some prospects
but the Boqvists were happy with how their oldest son handled it
We knew it was going to be early Saturday,” Patric said
If he had fallen further in the second round
The Boqvists enjoyed their time in Chicago
Adam was a big fan of the area near the Chicago river that splits downtown from the River North area
United Center also left a lasting impression
those memories of the Windy City would come flooding back to them
Patric Boqvist started playing hockey when he was three or four years old
a town about two hours northwest of Stockholm
He actually played more soccer than hockey at first
but his love of the sport on ice took root
Patric coached Jesper and Adam for years when they were younger
Both of the Boqvist sons grew up as big Brynas IF fans
“Ask him” with a smile and pointed to his father
Hedemora is a little more than an hour from two of the most famous clubs in Swedish hockey
Leksands IF is to the northwest in Leksand
Brynas and Leksands were dueling hockey empires
They combined to win the league 14 times from 1964-80
and the Boqvist household has always been a Brynas household
“I’m a Brynas fan since I was a little boy
like since Adam was four and Jesper was six.”
“There were players from Leksands who weren’t nice to the kids
because they were from a small town and Leksand is in the same region.”
‘We’re never going to play for Lesksands,’ early on.”
Jesper was the first to look like a future phenom
“Adam had a little problem with his skates and skating,” Patric said.
Nilsson added: “Adam would use Jesper’s old skates and gear
Both brothers used the TV-pucken tournament as a launching pad for their recent success
It’s a youth tournament similar to the Little League World Series — teams from each district around the country compete in a national tournament
Jesper’s big tournament came when he was 15
Both players moved on to Brynas and blossomed into elite NHL draft prospects
Jesper said he felt “50-50” that he was going to be a first-round pick last year
who has been one of the top-ranked players in his draft class for more than a year and spent most of this season projected to be a top-10 pick
I know what is going to happen,” Adam said
We talked about the combine and the draft at home
It is a little bit of inside information right now.”
It might have been a longer wait than the family wanted last year
but Patric and Helena were content with how the process is expected to play out — with Adam going higher than his older brother did
“I think it is better that he will go higher than Jesper,” Patric said
“Jesper has a contract with Brynas and played in the world junior championships and has been drafted
“Adam looks up to Jesper in everything they do
Jesper is a little more comfortable speaking English and less guarded in his words
He sounds like a Swedish player who has spent a year playing in a Canadian junior league
Adam hesitated at first when asked what kind of brother Jesper was
“He’s giving me things to work on and get better
We compete with each other almost every practice.”
“He’s pretty annoying,” before both shared a laugh
he’s a good brother and a good friend — maybe my best friend.”
The family planned to find a good dinner Thursday night and relax before Adam’s big day
Patric and Helena contemplated the idea of Adam ending up at No
11 to the New York Islanders — close enough for them to hang out (and for the parents to visit both at the same time)
Jesper already has a couple of close friends that will likely be waiting for him in the New York City area when he joins the Devils. He’s played for Sweden at the international level on several occasions with the Devils’ Jesper Bratt and the Rangers’ Lias Andersson
Adam was projected by pundits as high as No
but in the last couple of weeks there was some chatter among the draftniks that he could slide a bit on draft day
The Boqvists arrived at the home arena of the Dallas Stars and took their seats in Section 120
They were joined by Nilsson and Peter Wallen
That left two players considered top-five prospects by many pundits, Filip Zadina and Quinn Hughes
The Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks snapped up Zadina and Hughes with glee, and then the Chicago Blackhawks were on the board
the Boqvists thought Jesper might end up with Chicago
The Blackhawks didn’t bypass someone from the family twice
Analysts call Adam Boqvist one of the best pure skaters in the draft

— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) June 23, 2018
I was so happy,” Adam said after the Blackhawks made him the No
Adam was off to meet with the Blackhawks’ brass
meet the media and then reunite with his family in the Lexus Lounge of the arena before heading to Chicago’s private suite
as it sank in for them that one of their clients was now a top-10 draft pick
“The feeling was almost better than last year
I was thinking about how many times the Devils meet them
This might have been the second act at the NHL draft for the Boqvist family
but the emotions of this incredible moment overtook them
Just before that, he received a phone call he’s probably not going to forget anytime soon — from Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews
He wished me all the best and see you at camp
The journey to the NHL draft for the Boqvist brothers is now complete
but the ultimate goal of reaching the league is still far on the horizon
Both are likely to return to Byrnas next season
Jesper could push for a spot with the Devils after next season
It might be another year after that for Adam
Patric and Helena will return to Hedemora and start plotting more trips to America
and checking out flights from New York or Newark to Chicago and vice versa
“Sweden plays soccer against Germany tomorrow,” Patric said
“We’re going to watch that together and take it easy
He took a deep breath and an exaggerated exhale

Sweden | Investment firm Röko has acquired 70 percent of Sweden’s leading independent craft brewery
Oppigards is based in the village of Hedemora
The brewery is located on a farm which has been in the Falkeström’s family since the 18th century
It is here that Mr Falkeström has brewed beer since the 1990s
A major brewery expansion was completed in 2016
allowing Mr Falkeström to brew 22,000 hl beer in 2019
Oppigards is now a SEK 70 million (USD 8 million) turnover firm with 22 employees
Oppigard’s turnover has been flat for the past two years
while profits (EBIT) dropped slightly to SEK 17.6 million (USD 2 million) in 2019
Although financial details were not disclosed
insiders put Oppigard’s price tag at a minimum of USD 20 million
Oppigards sells 80 percent of its beer through the country’s monopolist alcohol retailer Systembolaget
which may have been a safe thing to do when competition among craft brewers was low
But with over 200 domestic microbreweries vying for shelf space
Oppigards will need to expand into the even more competitive on-premise to return to growth
Draught beer has become quite popular in Sweden
with pubs and restaurants nowadays featuring dozens of taps
Carlsberg alone offers more than 60 draught beer brands in Sweden
Investment fund Röko: no industry consolidator
Founded by Fredrik Karlsson and Tomas Billing
Röko is a Sweden-based investment firm with EUR 270 million (USD 320 million) in committed capital
Its ambition is to be a long-term owner of European small- and medium-sized businesses
Röko has no previous interests in the beer industry and there are no plans to buy more breweries to consolidate an industry
Röko said it wants to buy talented companies and let them develop
Oppigards fits this ticket as it has grown slowly with good profitability
admitted that he had thought of an exit for some time
“No one gets younger and there is no natural successor in the family.” Not wanting to sell to a Big Brewer
A business broker was hired to complete the deal and there were several stakeholders
Mr Falkeström will remain on the board and will also continue to act as CEO
A new CEO will be recruited eventually to succeed Mr Falkeström
Oppigards’ sale wasn’t met with outcry by the craft beer commentariat
which may be due to the fact that Röko’s plans for the brewery’s future aren’t known

The completion of its turbocharger series and plans for wider class society recognition are expected to boost marine sales at Hedemora
Hedemora Turbo and Diesel is waiting to trial its latest turbocharger on the marine market after expanding its HS turbocharger range with the new HS6800 last year
It follows development of the HS7800 and completes the current series
which also includes HS4800 and HS5800 frame sizes
HS6800 and HS5800 turbochargers share the same interfaces
giving operators an opportunity to upgrade earlier installations and boost engine performance
Design principles are shared with other HS turbocharger products and service intervals will be at 24,000 hours
New volutes now give an improved airflow capacity of up to 6.8 kg/sec and the same unique and compact designs ensure good on-engine vibration characteristics
The new HS6800 delivers pressure ratios of up to 4.5:1 at the same high efficiency levels as the company’s other products
with initial testing carried out on the company’s own purpose-built rig
“After the successful testing of the HS7800
the new HS6800 has also performed well in our own test laboratories and is delivering predicted performance results,” said Hedemora Turbo and Diesel senior sales manager Ernst Dahlin
“We are now waiting for a suitable vessel on which to install the first units.”
The turbocharger is designed to be retrofitted – all of Hedemora’s marine business involves retrofitting turbochargers
although the company previously had a long heritage of engine design
a tradition that Mr Dhalin says underpins its turbocharger expertise
Data is gathered and analysed as necessary to enable preliminary matching requirements and an installation configuration to be established
the new HS6800 has also performed well in our own test laboratories"
Hedemora cited a retrofit example on a railway installation that has demonstrated successful operation in worst-case conditions in one of the world’s most extreme application environments: temperatures range from -55°C up to +45°C
air conditions can be dirty and operating altitudes rise to 2,000 m
Hedemora engineers were on hand during the project
monitoring running parameters and checking for any adjustments required to achieve best performance
The result has been enhanced engine efficiency
decreased fuel consumption and lower exhaust temperatures
Hedemora and its customer have signed a long-term partnership agreement
the HS turbocharger range will cover six frame sizes
including the smaller HS430 and HS550 products
spanning a potential engine power range from 740kW to 4,200kW based on a single turbocharger installation
There are comprehensive engine matching options available from a wide range of compressor and turbine wheel capacities
Added to these are a selection of nozzles and diffusers to meet any specified engine requirements
The HS6800 design also features dual row diffusers
which provide these turbochargers with wider compressor maps
Further options are available for interface connections
with single and double compressor volutes and a wide choice of exhaust gas intakes
based on single or multiple inlet passages
Compressor shrouds can also be supplied as standard or with anti-surge features to provide a controlled degree of internal air recirculation
increasing surge margins at part-load operating conditions
full support services are provided for all HS turbocharger products and critical components can be shipped within 48 hours of order placement
Field staff are available for site service work
which requires only two special tools in addition to standard hand tools
Full turbocharger overhauls can be carried out at Hedemora
these being validated by a full test cell proof run
Hedemora turbochargers have been certified to the requirements of Turkish Lloyd and type approved by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping
Mr Dahlin said that the company is exploring further approvals with classification societies to diversify its marine business
A Hedemora V16 A diesel engine with a shaft power of 1,200 kW was delivered recently to Phillips Petroleum for instal lation on the Eldfisk Tor platform
The engine will power an Ingersoll Dresser pump for water injection
Built at the Hedemora Diesel factory at Hedemora in Sweden
the new engine is expected to operate with a fuel efficiency of 38%
It joins three other Hedemora diesels that are being used for electricity generation by Phillips
These include two V18 engines producing 2,150 kW each and a smaller V12 installation running at 1,400 kW
The Hedemora diesels replace small gas turbine generator units that have a fuel efficiency of around 10%
Despite the gas burned by the turbine being available without cost to the operator
its inefficiency has made the user liable to substantial carbon dioxide tax payments to the Norwegian government
the company has been manufacturing diesel engines since 1945
Hedemora's engines are today available in sizes ranging from 1,000 kW to 2,500 kW
The largest of these works with a 210-mm cylinder bore and a stroke of 210 mm
All are supplied with ABB turbochargers to optimize their power output
Because the dependability of their engines is of paramount importance
fully machined crankshafts with induction hardened journals
Pistons are manufactured from aluminum alloy with a cast iron ring carrier for reduced wear
Camshafts use induction hardened cams and bearing journals while valve seats are wear resistant and interchangeable
The engines' design features a welded cylindrical crankcase that provides a low weight with high output
They are particularly well suited to applications in which large variations in power output are necessary and have been designed so they can be operated for long periods at low power and then quickly take on maximum loads without their performance or operating reliability being affected
They have also been tested by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate to operate at an inclination of 35° under its requirements for emergency generator sets
The base design of each Hedemora diesel engine comprises an environmentally sound power source
This ensures that they have lower NOx emissions than those specified under the latest International Maritime Organization regulations
a performance that is achieved without any modification to the engine or its fuel system
Another successful aspect of the design of Hedemora diesel engines is that they are built to enable continuous upgrading
"Stena has two dive support vessels that are equipped with six of our V18B engines to provide diesel electric propulsion and DP thrusters," he said
"These engines are currently being upgraded so that they can be run for another 100,000 hours
A Hedemora engine will never become obsolete as everything can be upgraded and we carry spares for every type of engine ever manufactured by the company
They can also be delivered anywhere in the world within 24 hours," he said
The company operates an extensive training program for its customers and for its own staff who can provide a full maintenance service for customers if required
With nearly 500 engines still in use around the world
Hedemora has little difficulty in demonstrating its track record with applications ranging from standby generators in hospitals to the world's largest conventional submarine
This Australian Navy boat submarine has its batteries charged by three 12 cylinder Hedemoras which
being the largest diesel submarine engines ever built
are expected to maintain a life expectancy far in excess of the submarine itself
