“As we begin modernizing our lighting and infrastructure across the city
we look forward to leveraging Itron’s CityEdge portfolio and exploring the possibilities of creating a data-driven and vibrant city.”
“It’s known within our industry that public lighting can consume a vast amount of a municipality or city’s energy budget
contributes to solving challenges related to public safety and unnecessary energy consumption
Our CityEdge portfolio will benefit Helsingborg by enabling the city to lower its energy consumption while improving quality of life for its citizens,” said John Marcolini
senior vice president of Networked Solutions at Itron
“The CityEdge platform is a leader in the market and chosen by more than 500 communities across the globe for good reason
Its open ecosystem design enables cities to address new or local challenges as they arise
Deploying this solution for the first use-case sets cities up for the future as they can continuously address new challenges all within a single platform.”

and there is perhaps no better definition of it than this home full of reassuring objects

The whole feeling that this place gave back immediately drew me in
Marie had been looking for somewhere to live in the area for a year and had already seen the building
“It’s in a very special area in the city centre
so I sent him an email to see if there was anything available
because just the day before this flat had become vacant.”

The unstoppable rise of Annett KAUFMANN has reached a new pinnacle
At the Youth World Championships in Helsingborg
the exceptional 18-year-old talent reached the most significant peak of her young career

In the shadow of KAUFMANN’S outstanding triumph
two other major German successes nearly went unnoticed: Mia GRIESEL (U19) and Koharu ITAGAKI (U15) each won bronze after closely contested semifinals against Chinese opponents
Germany secured two additional bronze medals
one in the U15 girls’ team event and another in doubles
where KAUFMANN teamed up with Welsh player Anna HURSEY
the German Table Tennis Association’s medal count at the 2024 championships climbed to five
Since the inaugural Youth World Championships in 2003
German talents have won a total of 34 medals
What a year it has been for Annett KAUFMANN
After focusing on and excelling in her final high school exams in the spring
the native of Wolfsburg claimed her first senior national singles title at the German Table Tennis Finals in Erfurt
she emerged as the breakout star of the Paris Olympics

She capped off this extraordinary year by winning the Youth World Championship title in Helsingborg
KAUFMANN’S win in the final was well-deserved: she defeated ZONG Geman
one of China’s brightest table tennis prospects
ZONG had already secured doubles and mixed doubles titles before the singles final but was unable to counter KAUFMANN’S assertive style
KAUFMANN had defeated the tournament’s top seed
in the semifinals by dictating the game throughout
KAUFMANN dropped her paddle in disbelief and felt immense relief
“I can’t believe it; it feels surreal
and my adversary played exceptionally well,” said the newly crowned champion
Kaufmann also expressed gratitude: “I am very thankful to everyone who has supported me here
Special thanks to Lara [U19 coach Lara BROICH]
Lara BROICH lauded her pupil’s achievement: “Hats off to Annett for becoming World Champion.”
With her gold in singles and bronze in doubles alongside Anna HURSEY
Kaufmann increased her career medal tally at Youth World Championships to seven
she and Mia Griesel claimed bronze in doubles
it seemed Germany might see an all-German final
While KAUFMANN dominated her semifinal against Egypt’s Hana GODA
Mia GRIESEL led 2:1 against ZONG Geman on an adjacent table
the Chinese player turned the match around to win the next three sets
having earlier upset South Korea’s YOO Yerin and France’s Charlotte LUTZ
the 18-year-old reflected positively on her bronze medal: “I felt there was more potential today
I’m very happy with my performance and medal.”
she faced Chinese players who were just slightly stronger in both team and singles events
before narrowly losing to HU Yi in the semifinals

The innovative “Tre Rör Ut” (Three Pipe Wastewater) system collects and separates municipal wastewater closest to the source: in people’s houses
It is important to educate people well in using the system to achieve optimal results
The municipality of Helsingborg decided in 2013 that they were going to build a new neighbourhood
Based on successful cases in other countries
it was decided to use a 3 pipe wastewater system
This decision was part of an environmental plan for the neighbourhood
a non-profit public water utility organisation
a development facility with a testing location for research
The plant is a unique wastewater system that recycles resources from sewage and food waste
The 3 Pipe Wastewater system was implemented as a cooperation between Helsingborg and NSVA
The system works by collecting water from showers
sinks (grey water) and toilets (black water)
organic waste is collected via food grinders in the kitchen sinks
These make up the three pipes system.
The organic waste and black water collected produces biogas and biofertiliser
currently generates 60-70% more biogas per person per year than a conventional sewage treatment plant
compared to a normal wastewater treatment plant
this method recovers 3 times more phosphorus and 7 times more nitrogen per person per year
The collection system meets several environmental goals such as reducing over fertilisation
reducing negative effects on the climate and reducing water use
The system also reduces emissions of climate-impacting gases
it is an energy-efficient way to remove medicine residue
One of the biggest challenges was to get citizens to understand how to use the organic waste grinder in the kitchen sink
As you cannot just throw any type of food in the sink
The learning process takes a while before citizens are fully used to it.
Another challenge was communication throughout the whole process
can have nearly the same amount of decibels as a normal toilet
it can be much louder and prove to be a nuisance to the inhabitants of the building.
it is interesting to note that because the food grinder was implemented at the same time as the vacuum toilet
the vacuum toilet barely got any resistance
as it can be much louder than a normal toilet
the food waste is more difficult to get used to so the toilet is accepted more easily
Helsingborg found this project so successful that the city intends to apply the same strategies again in the near future in the city district of “Östra Ramlösa”
The city of Visby is also currently building the same system
Communication needs to be prioritised in future projects
It is important to make sure that communication is clear and it is explained how new installations work
This system can clean polluted and contaminated water perfectly
It is therefore a great option for countries or locations that deal with drought
As the processed water turns out very clean

Apple Väla Centrum in Helsingborg, Sweden will permanently close on July 13, according to a Tabletops report by Michael Steeper
He says that news of the impending closure was briefly announced back in January, but at the time no specific date was given. Now nearly 11 years old, Apple Väla Centrum is one of only three stores in Sweden. It’ll be replaced by Apple Mall of Scandinavia
Helsingborg is some 550km from Solna,” Steeper writes
“Väla Centrum is the newest store in Sweden
but I’m looking ahead optimistically for what’s in store at Mall of Scandinavia
It’s not often there’s any news from Sweden.”
Linn Grant was loving playing at home as the 2022 champion carded an excellent 67 on day one of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed
the 24-year-old romped to a remarkable nine-shot victory as she became the first female winner in DP World Tour history at the event where 78 men and 78 women play in the same groups for one prize fund and one trophy
She had fantastic support on home soil that week in Tylösand but that is ramped up even further in 2024 as this week's venue of Vasatorps Golfklubb is in Grant's hometown of Helsingborg
the 2022 LET Order of Merit winner certainly had every reason to feel comfortable and she fully intended to make the most of home comforts
It’s nice to have a group that follows you that really cheers for you
Have a barbecue and enjoy some time off before tomorrow
\"I told (my brother) the best thing is that we can go home
Grant was playing in an all-Swedish group with Jesper Svensson and Madelene Sagstrom
with all three players recording under-par rounds
And while Grant proved in 2022 that she can both match and beat the men
she revealed it was still a striking experience to witness the differences in how the game can be played
I was trying to hang on to Jesper today,\" she said after finishing one shot ahead of her compatriot
The logistics company Instabee has signed an agreement for an additional 4,000 square metres at the Rubinen 8 property in the Ättekulla industrial area in Helsingborg
which includes the consumer brands Budbee and Instabox
offers deliveries either to consumers’ homes or to a parcel locker
Instabee operates in six countries and can be selected as a shipping alternative with the majority of the major online retailers in Sweden
Instabee has been a tenant of Wihlborgs since 2018
the company has been leasing 2,000 square metres in the Bunkagården Västra 8 property but is now expanding with a space in a neighbouring premises that is double the size
in conjunction with the previous tenant vacating the premises
The Ättekulla industrial area is located in southern Helsingborg
and its proximity to the E4 and E6 motorways as well as the Port of Helsingborg has made it attractive to transportation companies
“We have a good partnership with Wihlborgs
and we are pleased that they can meet our operational needs as we continue to grow,” says Fredrik Nyström
“We are happy to see Instabee growing with us
and are happy to be able to meet their needs for a larger space adjacent to their existing operations immediately after the previous tenant vacated the premises,” says Ulrika Hallengren
Wihlborgs Fastigheter AB (publ) is a property company that focuses on commercial properties in the Öresund region
Its property portfolio is located in Malmö
The book value of the company’s properties totals SEK 57 billion
representing an annual property rental value of SEK 4.5 billion
Wihlborgs’ shares are listed on the Large Cap List of Nasdaq Stockholm
Linn Grant made yet more history as she won the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed for the second time
chasing down overnight leader Sebastian Söderberg courtesy of a flawless final-round 65 in her hometown of Helsingborg
who became the first female winner in DP World Tour history at this event two years ago
started the day 11 shots behind runaway 54-hole leader Söderberg
But as he slipped backwards throughout the afternoon
Grant made seven birdies and no bogeys to set the clubhouse target at 17 under
And with her countryman Söderberg finishing his final-round 77 with a double bogey at the 18th to miss out on a play-off
Grant earned her second DP World Tour title in dramatic circumstances
Söderberg finished in joint-second alongside Scotland's Calum Hill on 16 under
with Swedish Ladies European Tour star Johanna Gustavsson three shots further back in a tie for fourth with Englishmen Alex Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan
making four birdies in five holes from the second to close the gap
The 24-year-old took dead aim at the ninth to set up a six-foot birdie before holing from 15 feet on the tenth for back-to-back birdies
Grant gave herself further chances down the stretch but could not add to her birdie count until the 18th
where she chipped in from the bank around the green to finish with a flourish
\"Honestly I just tried to go out today and give myself an opportunity
I didn't even think that I had the chance of winning - 11 shots is a huge gap
have fun and make as many birdies as possible
\"And enjoy it with my brother on the bag and being at home
\"It turned out to be an incredible day.\"
Grant's hole-out birdie on the last proved to be the shot that won her the tournament and saw her become the first woman to win twice on the DP World Tour
I think I celebrated it good enough when I was there
So I'm not looking back on that wishing it was me on the last hole.\"
The Swedish flag featured prominently on the leaderboard as three home players finished in the top four
Grant said: \"It’s amazing playing on home soil and seeing a lot of players play so well
\"I think it shows all the fans coming out here that we really enjoy playing at home
Just finding a way to celebrate tonight and have a nice week off.\"

The European Commission has selected projects that are considered to have the greatest potential to succeed and provide the most climate benefits
These selected projects are now invited to a final phase
called the "Grant Agreement," where contract terms will be negotiated and agreements signed between the parties
comments: – The news that the EU Innovation Fund is supporting our project is both a strong acknowledgment of the initiative’s potential and an important driver for continuing our work
A total of 337 projects applied for support
but only 85 projects in Europe were selected
With financial support from the EU Innovation Fund
we have the resources to make a real climate contribution and support a sustainable future for coming generations
I now look forward to the next step in the process
where we will negotiate the final contract terms with the European Commission and sign the agreement
The stored carbon dioxide not only helps make the district heating production at Filbornaverket in Helsingborg climate-neutral
These negative emissions arise when biogenic carbon dioxide is stored and can be used to offset fossil emissions that are difficult to eliminate despite efforts
The negative emissions can then be used by companies that need carbon offsets in their portfolio to achieve their own net-zero goals
Commercial Manager for CCS at Öresundskraft
adds: – We are extremely proud to have developed an initiative that not only ensures long-term
climate-neutral district heating and waste incineration but also provides companies and organizations in Helsingborg with a clear opportunity to achieve their net-zero targets
together with the city and businesses at the local
are leading the way in the necessary climate transition and creating sustainable solutions for the future
intensive preparations are underway ahead of the upcoming investment decision required for the CCS initiative to be realized
The procurement of construction and storage actors is ongoing
and work continues in parallel to secure the necessary permits and financing
The final decision on the implementation of the CCS initiative is expected in 2025
– Helsingborg has set ambitious climate goals
and the CCS initiative is key to achieving them
By combining innovation and local expertise with European support
we are putting Helsingborg on the map as a pioneering city when it comes to sustainable solutions
The EU Innovation Fund is one of the world’s largest programs for financing and showcasing new technologies that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions
The fund is focused on supporting projects that demonstrate technologies
or products with significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
The fund can provide up to 40 billion euros in support during the period from 2020 to 2030

The Swedish cities of Helsingborg and Umeå have secured €1 million in EU funding under the Horizon Europe programme for their joint initiative
HYDROSYM-2030 is a unique initiative where the City of Helsingborg and the Municipality of Umeå
together with industry stakeholders and researchers
will explore the role cities can play in the transition to a climate-neutral industry
— The transformation of the business sector is crucial for us to achieve climate neutrality and the City of Helsingborg wants to be an enabler in that work
HYDROSYM-2030 gives us an opportunity to investigate how we can create the right conditions for a sustainable industry with continued strong competitiveness
Chairman of the City Council of Helsingborg.European cities have traditionally focused on emissions from transport and buildings
industrial emissions – representing nearly 50 percent of EU’s total greenhouse gas emissions — are often beyond municipal control
Helsingborg and Umeå are now taking a proactive role in the industrial transition
By exploring and establishing strong public-private partnerships
HYDROSYM-2030 will create investment-ready projects that can be scaled across Europe
— Umeå is proving that local governments can shape the future of industry by fostering the right conditions for collaboration and investment
Our work on industrial symbiosis and waste heat recovery will serve as a replicable model for European cities seeking to accelerate their climate transitions
City of Umeå.The results of HYDROSYM-2030 will be shared with other European cities facing similar challenges
The project is part of the EU's Industrial Green Deal and the European Mission Cities program
where Helsingborg and Umeå serve as testbeds for the climate-neutral industrial ecosystems of the future
HYDROSYM-2030 is being carried out in collaboration with Öresundskraft

the Swedish city of Helsingborg has become the first city to list a sustainability-linked bond
listed on Nasdaq’s Sustainable Bond Market
ties its returns to Helsingborg’s ambition of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions
As environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing has grown globally, the Swedish city of Helsingborg has become the first city to list a sustainability-linked bond (SLB). The bond, which is listed on Nasdaq’s Sustainable Bond Market
ties its returns to Helsingborg’s ambition of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035
we put up a clear and tough target for the climate work that we do
other cities around the globe will follow—if so
and thereby a benefit for all of us,” said Göran Heimer
Group Treasurer for the city of Helsingborg
enabling investors to track the progress on the sustainability performance target while providing greater transparency
The city of Helsingborg has made progress in curbing greenhouse gas emissions
and believes it is possible to reach net-zero emissions by 2035
Göran Heimer acknowledges that the journey will be challenging
“Private transportation and the local industry are the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions
Electric and heating are the third biggest
and the city has a direct influence in this sector
The SLB will help fund the city’s efforts to not only reduce greenhouse gas but also increase the quality of life and build a more sustainable society
¨We’re working broadly with these questions within the city's organization and together with important actors in the city
in our work with local climate agreements and our innovation initiatives
we were finalists in the European Commission's EU Green Capital
and now we’re looking at whether we have the potential to become one of the 100 European cities to take the lead in climate change
This is an important step in the right direction,” Lars Thunberg
Helsingborg opted for a SLB rather than a green bond
in which proceeds are earmarked for projects and assets with environmental benefits
The SLB route is a better fit for the city’s strategy
which goes beyond projects directly controlled by Helsingborg
“It’s about a higher quality of life for all within the geographical area of Helsingborg; therefore
the SLB format suits us better,” said Heimer
the SLB was able to issue at a so-called “greenium,” which refers to the premium bondholders are willing to pay to invest in green securities rather than conventional ones.
“There is a greenium and a bit more,” said Heimer
This premium is not a cost for the investor
If we achieve our goals and other cities were to follow
it is a tremendous gain for all investors lowering the cost of climate change.”
“The climate change will affect the investment market; for some
for others an investment opportunity,” continued Heimer
in this SLB is something we hope will be appreciated by investors [as] it’s hard work lowering the cost of climate change.”

NOWSTARS participants working in the Retail-project attended the 9th Nordic Retail and Wholesale Conference held in Helsingborg between 5 and 7 November 2024
The conference was hosted by the Center for Retail Research at Lund University
Jaco Pienaar and Magnus Sverke all presented papers focused on the retail industry
Philip presented work done for what will be the second paper in his ongoing thesis work
The paper presents profiles of job and financial insecurity among blue-collar employees in the Swedish retail industry and their associations with work–life interference
Helena’s paper deals with the intersectionality of gender and part-time work in the retail industry and will be submitted to the Nordic Journal of Working Life Studies in December 2024
Jaco presented a paper focusing on the retail-specific demands of emotional labor
threats and harassment and worktime insecurity among members of the Swedish Commercial Employees' Union
This paper has been submitted to a special issue of the journal International Review of Retail
Magnus presented a paper investigating main and interaction effects of job demands and job resources on work-related attitudes and behavior in the Swedish retail sector
The conference presented two full days of interesting papers from different disciplines
all addressing questions in the retail industry
A welcome reception in Helsingborg’s beautiful city hall and a conference dinner complemented the event
Inaugurated in 2012 in central Helsingborg, Sweden
each roughly 3.5 feet (1 meter) tall and crafted from water-polished granite
are the creation of the prominent Swedish cultural personality Marianne Lindberg De Geer
Her fascination with rabbits dates back to childhood when she discovered the bustling White Rabbit in the fairytale Alice in Wonderland
which happens to be the artist’s first name
While children are drawn to hugging and playing with the whimsical rabbit sculptures
parents may find themselves intrigued by other facets of the artwork
especially if they’ve noticed the small plaque on the ground revealing its title: A Study in Unhuman Sexual Expectations [sic]
This underscores the tension depicted among the group of rabbits
the suggestion of a post-coital state is evoked by their facial expressions
Two of the artwork's rabbits are meant to lie on their backs
they have been repeatedly propped up by potentially mischievous individuals or well-meaning
the municipality must use a crane truck to carefully lower the sculptures
each of which weighs approximately 550 pounds (250 kg)
back to their intended artistic presentation
This can't be done manually as previous attempts have resulted in broken ears
Just like real-life rabbits, Lindberg De Geer's figures have been prolific at reproducing, meeting human expectations regarding this behavior. Sculptural relatives can namely be found in some other Swedish cities like Stockholm, Lund, Borås, and Skellefteå
yet it’s in Helsingborg where the largest collection of these granite rabbits resides
Accessible around the clock and located outside Dunker's Cultural Center
it's roughly a 10-minute walk from Helsingborg's train
This modern sculpture looks out over the sea and amplifies sound from the inside
This 42-foot tribute to the workforce still reminds us to pause and recharge
A whimsical display of massive metal sculptures made from recycled materials
made from recycled wood and materials found in nature
Papier-mâché folk art recognizing horrors of slave trade
Rusted humanoid clutching a laptop and trailing cables
A family of distorted sculptures stands outside Seoul's former imperial palace
An abstract sculpture that will be a work in progress for the next 1,000 years
Working to sustain the natural world for the benefit of people and nature

Nine out of ten goods come to Sweden by sea
Many of them come to the Port of Helsingborg
Sweden's second largest and one of northern Europe's leading container ports
Eight million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded here last year
The cars in the port have already been electrified and now the first step in electrifying the heavy vehicles has been taken: the investment in four electric terminal tractors from the Dutch company Terberg that will drive containers to and from the boats in the three-kilometer long port
Each electric terminal tractor will contribute to an annual reduction in emissions of 5.6 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents
Since the tractors do not emit any pollutants such as nitrogen or sulfur oxides
the air quality in the port will also improve significantly
CEO of the Port of Helsingborg says: “We strive to be the most modern port in the Nordic region and our extensive sustainability work is an important part of that
Investments in innovative technology that increase capacity and improve sustainability are a condition for achieving our sustainability goals.”
“ABB's Terra DC fast charger is a robust solution that can deliver the high power that the electrical terminal tractors require
Thanks to the fact that ABB develops both software and hardware
we have a very deep competence in electrification
This is something that benefits our customers both locally and globally”
sales representative at ABB Electrification in Sweden
“This investment is a first important step for the Port of Helsingborg to reach its goal to become completely fossil-free
But one of the most significant advantages
is a quieter and more ergonomic work environment for employees both driving the tractors and working within their proximity.”
the electrical infrastructure has been planned so that the tractors with small charging breaks will be able to handle a full day's production without any longer changings
Simulations of the vehicle’s charging cycles have been drafted and logically follow the daily operations schedule and charge when employees are on breaks
and ABB’s fast chargers have been placed in locations easily accessible to employees
The first phase includes testing of four tractors and four chargers
with the port planning to source additional electrified terminal tractors to meet its targets of using completely fossil-free heavy vehicles by 2024

A dynamite-laced apartment doorway blew a chunk of rubble more than 250-feet away
into the living room of a neighboring building
And a provincial town was put on lockdown after a suspected car-bombing
There have been at least five bomb blasts or scares in Sweden since the early hours of Friday
It must be stressed that police have not identified a connection between the blasts
and each attack is being investigated separately
But these incidents have rocked the Scandinavian nation
and have added fuel to the alt-right’s campaign to use the country as a cautionary paradigm of liberal immigration policies gone astray
No one was reportedly injured or killed in any of the incidents
police received a distress call about a suspected explosive in the stairwell of an apartment building in Malmö
Alt-right talking heads have rallied around the remarks
using any episode of violence in Sweden as evidence that the president presciently exposed the nation’s spiraling moral decrepitude
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven called the police station blast “an attack against our democracy”
Malmö police chief Stefan Sintéus has suggested bolstering the local police force with soldiers
there is no evidence that any terrorist organization was involved in any of the recent incidents
and the alt-right claims have no basis in fact

Former Paralympic champion Gilles de la Bourdonnaye of France after calling it quits from the sport a decade ago
has decided to come out of retirement for the Para Table Tennis European Championship
The event would serve in his comeback bid for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics
The competition schedule is underway in Helsingborg
until 21 September and is the final qualifying opportunity for athletes for Tokyo 2020
had made his first international debut in 1990 and after an illustrious career spanning 18 years had decided to put down his paddle in 2008
he had also won the World Championships in 1990
Bourdonnaye's accolades include European Championship victories in 1991
2003 and 2005 – this also includes individual and team titles
“To return as an international player was a pretty sudden decision I made in January this year,” said Bourdonnaye
“There are many things that made me decide to come back: I am still fit – I think – still enjoying training and playing
both my kids wanted to see me on TV - they were too small or not even born yet in 2008,” he added
The nine-time Paralympic medallist competed at five Paralympic Games between 1992 and 2008
and said the possibility of potentially competing at a sixth Games is another reason for his return
“The Paralympic Games are something that is hard to describe
Bourdonnaye remained involved with table tennis
as well as becoming the president of one of the top clubs in France for six years
he was also invited to attend the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games as a lecturer
he has seen significant changes in Para sports
“I can say that everything is more like able-bodied [sport] now: commitment of the players
since London 2012 we can say that Paralympians have become significantly more 'famous' than they ever were before
So now you have players that have sponsors and money enough to be only table tennis players.”
With over 15 previous European and world titles to his name
“[Competing for your country] is great of course because you feel that you are supported by lots of people
whether you win or lose,” Bourdonnaye said
Bourdonnaye has been following a tailored training schedule
“It will be my first major competition since Beijing 2008
so I am aiming at playing the best table tennis I can
This indeed would be a really good achievement,” he said
when I started to enter the ranks of the world's top players
the level of competition was not as high as it started to be 10 years after
So it was not so difficult to study or work and train at the same time,” he continued
“Then after Atlanta 1996 everything changed
you must train hard and be focused on your table tennis - in other words
Also helping his return is his strong support system
“My wife Michala (Zakova-de la Bourdonnaye
a former Para table tennis player for the Czech Republic ) is supporting me a lot,” he said
“I wanted to give a hand to [my teammate] Mateo Boheas
a nice person and we live in the same city (Nantes) so that makes things easier to train and for me to keep an eye on him
Over 300 athletes from 32 countries are at the Helsingborg 2019 Para Table Tennis European Championships, and more information is available on the ITTF’s website.
The European Capital of Innovation Awards (iCapital) is a prestigious European innovation prize for cities, supported by the European Innovation Council (EIC)
The winners and runner-ups serve as role models for other cities to follow.
In order to master the many urban challenges
innovation has become a critical issue for cities
Innovation is a complex task: it’s interdisciplinary and it requires doing things differently – not really a strength for most city administrations
which often operate in departmental silos.
there is an increasing number of highly successful cities which have learnt to navigate and achieve innovation – the best of them compete for the European Innovation Council’s annual iCapital awards
It is during Urban Future 2022 and H22 City Expo that the iCapital Alumni Network
the session “Innovation Kick-starter for cities” will include an iCapital panel discussion
which will take a close look at the cities that have found a way to innovate and already do so quite successfully
and what role the iCapital competition played in their efforts.
This gives innovators the opportunity to fully harness the potential of innovation through informal discussion and help to foster the flow of information
The session is followed by the iCapital Alumni Network inaugural meeting
with representatives from the following cities: Paris
the European Union recognises cities with inclusive innovation ecosystems
The prize identifies cities that connect the general public with academia
and the public sector to successfully translate results into improved societal wellbeing
while at the same time boosting game-changing innovation
The 2022 edition of the awards is open for applications until June 30. For more information please check the iCapital page

Located at the site of the former central ferry landing Angfarjan in Helsingborg, Sweden, the Schmidt Hammer Lassen designed Salt Crystals Hotel and Congress Centre is imagined as a cultural center and bridge between the nearby Helsingborg historical architecture and a new architectural future
The Salt Crystals is modernist in both structural form and design philosophy
modeling the outward form for each component of the Crystals for reception
The chalky looking crystalline exterior appearance is an expression of the local block structure and building grid
The Crystals will be connected to a mixed residential plot on the north side of the building which will house shops and retail on the ground floor
SHL wanted each residential unit to have unobstructed views of the waterfront
so the unit is orientated so the tallest units are withdrawn towards the street and the lower units are closest to the waterfront
This way all units have a waterfront view and receive sunlight from the south
SHL won the design competition in 2009 and construction is slated to begin in 2012 with an expected finish date in 2014
A 107 euro budget has been exacted for the construction
Masu Planning Landscape collaborated with SHL on the landscape design
