Former Louisiana Tech guard Tahlik Chavez signed a professional contract to play for the Köping Stars in Sweden on Tuesday
Tahlik Chavez is officially a professional basketball player
After spending his final year of college eligibility at Louisiana Tech for the 2023- 24 season
Chavez signed to play for the Köping Stars in Köping
The Stars compete in the SBL (Swedish Basketball League)
considered the highest level of basketball in the country
and takes a huge chip off my shoulder knowing that all my hard work paid off,” Chavez said to the Leader
and he handled everything and got me in the right position in a great environment with a great organization
I always thought it would be fun to play overseas
to travel abroad and actually get to see the world
Chavez started in 31 games for the Bulldogs last season
averaging 13.9 points and 2.9 rebounds and knocking down three- point shots at a high rate of 40.4%
ranking second in Conference USA and 33rd nationally in that category
He also led Tech in free-throw percentage at 77.7% His outside- shooting skills
made Chavez a perfect fit for Köping’s leadership
“It’s a very exciting signing,” Stefan Ståhlmalm
Chavez made 80 three pointers for Tech in his lone season in Ruston — tied for fifth most in a single season in program history
The Stars’ head coach couldn’t deny those numbers
“He is definitely a threat from the three-point line
but he can also take care of the ball and act as a game distributor,” Stars coach Gabo Loaiza said in the team’s release
Chavez’s new life in Europe will become the latest in a long history of moving for the sharp-shooting guard
who came to LA Tech after two seasons at Charleston Southern in Charleston
Chavez spent a season at Iona in New Rochelle
he spent one season at Garden City Community College in Garden City
fresh out of his high school career in Texas
Chavez is eager to get started at the professional level
“Not even just at Louisiana Tech but everywhere I’ve gone I’ve had a huge success just being confident and believing in myself and in my shot
and that’s what I’m going to keep doing playing pro,” Chavez said
“My goal is to win and keep advancing in my professional career year by year.”
Tech head coach Talvin Hester is ready for Chavez to continue a strong legacy of Bulldogs in professional basketball
“I am really excited for Tahlik in getting an opportunity to play post-collegiate basketball," Hester said
"I talked to the team in Sweden and they were really excited about him
He is a phenomenal basketball player and a good person

There's so much more to Hästens than the Grand Vividus − I took a trip to the luxury mattress factory in Köping
'I'm going to sleep on the world's most expensive bed
Guess how much it costs.' This is the question I asked my colleagues in the run-up to my mattress testing trip
I watched as they furrowed their brows in thought
who think nothing of recommending home and garden goods that costs hundreds
imagine their shock and skepticism when I told them that the world's most expensive bed – the Hästens Grand Vividus
which launched in 2020 − can cost as much as $1 million
everybody wanted to know – is it worth it
My answer: yes and no. The Grand Vividus is seriously sumptuous
but it isn't my favorite mattress that Hästens makes
which is a far better match for my sleep style (and price point)
filled with layers of hand-teased horsehair
Design expertise in your inbox – from inspiring decorating ideas and beautiful celebrity homes to practical gardening advice and shopping round-ups
I never sleep too well my first night in a new place
and I was nursing a crick in the neck from a nap on the plane
All this to say that the odds were stacked against me getting a good night's sleep
and now I realize that a good mattress is a non-negotiable
As I boarded the train from Stockholm to Köping
I was sold on the benefits of the Maranga sleep system
but I didn't know if I'd spend half my annual salary on it
I was chauffeured from Köping station to the Hästens factory in a trademark blue-check Mercedes SUV
the blue-check is the Hästens calling card
a pattern that adorns many of their mattresses and much of their bedding
It's a sharp contrast against the plain whites
and creams you see in most mattress factories
and there's a practical benefit to this USP
Following the blue-check makes it much easier for the mattress makers to position their stitches at perfectly regular intervals
The office walls are lined with letters from happy customers
A closer look and a quick translation told me that these certificates were warrants from the Swedish Royal Court
Hästens was appointed Purveyor to His Majesty the King of Sweden in 1952
and their relationship is still going strong 70 years later
is covered with framed photographs of musicians
businessmen and tech moguls who own a Hästens sleep system
There isn't enough space in this article to list all their names
I'm not allowed – I signed an NDA before I took two steps into Head Office
Hästens doesn't do freebies in exchange for exposure
Each of these celebrities paid good money for their Hästens sleep system
and they aren't interested in free advertising
regardless of industry or where people may be in their careers,' says Maria
'My first big purchase after a tournament win was a Hästens mattress
it was one of the most important purchases of my career.'
As I stepped from Head Office onto the factory floor
I've toured American mattress factories where the whirring of machines and the beeping of forklifts is enough to overload your senses
Things feel a lot calmer at the Dream Factory
where most of the work is done without mechanical intervention
the whole operation calls to mind a grown-up of Santa's workshop
learning my craft from Hästens' most experienced mattress makers
which is filled with sandwiched layers of cotton and wool for comfort
plus horsehair for thermoregulation and support
The hair is steamed and heated to burn off any dust or dirt
then knotted and twisted into little coils
The mattress makers take clumps of horsehair in their hands and tease it out into even layers
The top mattress I helped to make had two layers of horsehair between three layers of wool and cotton
While the top mattress was stitched into its cover
No springs just yet: those come from the bed base
and horsehair were fed into plaid fabric and stitched for security
one of the mattress makers asked if I'd like to have a go at stitching the side of the middle mattress
What took him five seconds took me at least five minutes
and pushed the needle to make a single seam
then quietly unthreaded my stitch while I celebrated
The middle mattress is founded on a pocket spring system to minimize motion transfer (ideal for couples and light sleepers)
your spring system might go on top of or inside your pinewood bed base
This is the only aspect of a Hästens sleep system that is constructed and assembled outside of the Dream Factory
where it grows tall and tough during harsh winters
it's fashioned into bed bases by an unnamed partner company and transported to Köping
where Hästens workers add a dust cover and a few more finishing touches
the corner springs inside the bed base are cushioned with flax
so you don't get a nasty shock from your bed frame
The ideal Hästens worker is a jack of all trades
able to turn their hand to the technicalities of a dozen different mattress models
Only the most proficient workers are trusted to work on the Grand Vividus sleep system
Much of the production process is a closely guarded secret and takes place tucked away in corners on the Hästens factory floor
The Grand Vividus is filled with horsetail hair
much like any other Hästens sleep system
The headboard is expertly upholstered with lustrous mohair and finished with poplin piping
while the mattress handles are covered in stingray skin
My tour guide openly admitted that this material serves no practical purpose
the Grand Vividus is so heavy that the handles are just for show − and the stingray skin makes that show all the more spectacular
For the final stop on my factory tour, I visited the packing station. I embarrassed myself by asking whether the sleep systems were compressed into cardboard, like a box mattress
intensive work that takes place at every stage of the manufacturing process is carried through to the packing room
the top mattress and middle mattress are wrapped in plastic for protection against dust and dirt
Where some companies make their mattress fit the box
Hästens makes the box fit the mattress
A cardboard case is constructed around each section of the sleep system
the real work begins – getting your sleep system upstairs
My tour guide is due to move house next month
and he has no idea how he's going to fit his Hästens into his new place
he's determined to find a way − he refuses to give up such a good night's sleep
A short drive away from the Dream Factory stands the Hästens flagship store in downtown Köping
I found almost every Hästens mattress in a range of firmnesses to suit all sorts of sleepers
This wasn't so much of a showroom as a sleep spa
My tour guide encouraged me to swap my sneakers for a pair of down-lined booties so that I could pad from bed to bed while he dimmed the lights and fluffed the pillows
Before my tour guide could get me into bed
I asked him to explain the enormous poster of a naked woman hanging above my head
'All the better to show her spinal alignment,' he explained
showing me how a Hästens sleep system is designed to dip beneath your shoulders and hips to better support your lower back
I could track the straight line from the model's neck along her spine all the way down to her toes
though my tour guide assured me I could keep my clothes on
In order to help me find my perfect match, a member of the Hästens sales team offered me an impromptu sleep consultation. First, he wanted to learn about my sleep positions
When I told him that I tend to sleep on my stomach
he frowned: 'That's a sure sign that you aren't sleeping on the right mattress.' I stood my ground: I can never fall asleep on my side
though sometimes I manage it lying on my back
'Softness and support aren't mutually exclusive,' he told me: it's all about finding the right balance
We moved slowly around the store, considering the merits of each mattress to help me lie comfortably on my back. I was surprised to find that, actually, I could – on the right mattress, and only when I had the best pillow
Lying on the Hästens Herlewing (prices start from £17,890
I could feel my hips sink into the surface while my legs and lower back were lifted
my favorite was the Maranga sleep system from the hotel
I immediately felt the relief of those supportive steel springs
My sales associate relented and told me it wasn't so bad to sleep on my stomach
as long as I found the right pillow − fluffy and flat to keep my neck from straining
Full disclosure: I tried the Grand Vividus in the Hästens showroom
When I admitted this to my sales associate
he wasn't surprised: he thought it was too firm
He told me that 'most people go wrong when they try to buy the best mattress
which they think is the most expensive mattress
without working out whether it is the best mattress for them.'
with just enough bounce to get you into and out of bed
This luxury innerspring is filled with more than 1,000 springs
ergonomically arranged to keep your spine straight
favored by A-List celebrities and tech giants
because it isn't the right bed for me − but I might buy a Hästens Maranga
I can't overstate how well I slept in the hotel and how supported I felt in the showroom
I could justify it in terms of cost per use
If I slept on a $10,000 sleep system every night for seven years (the average life span of a mattress)
Most people spend more than that on their morning coffee
it's less about the size of the investment
You'll trade in a fast car after a few years
your designer clothes will go out of style
I heard about Hästens customers who have slept in the same beds for 20
Their investment paid dividends for their health and well-being
Some customers even pass down their sleep systems to their children and grandchildren to give the gift of better sleep
To answer my colleague's earlier question: is it worth it
and I slept for 50 years as well as I did that first night

While excavating a Viking cemetery near the Swedish town of Köping
archaeologists discovered a pair of sword hilts protruding curiously from the earth
they determined that the handles belonged to Viking swords that had been thrust into the earth above two burials and had remained upright for 1,200 years
“Viking Age graves containing swords are very rare,” says Anton Seiler
an archaeologist working with Sweden’s National Historical Museums
“Graves where swords were set in a vertical position are even rarer.”
Because it would have taken a great amount of force to hammer the weapons through the soil and large stones that covered the burials
researchers do not believe the blades were in this position by chance
“It was clearly a conscious action,” Seiler says
though he is not certain why the swords were arranged in this unusual way
it was a gesture meant to aid the deceased warriors’ journey to Valhalla
It also may have been a way of commemorating the dead
Family members visiting the graves would have been able to touch the sword handles
thereby maintaining a close connection with the departed

The Hästens factory and headquarters in Köping
Hästens is a family-owned Swedish bed manufacturer specializing in handcrafted mattresses using all natural filling materials
They have become a symbol of a luxurious night of sleep
But will shelling out thousands of dollars on a bespoke mattress really guarantee you a better night’s rest
With hectic schedules and demanding responsibilities
those REM cycles are a vital foundation for a healthy body and brain
and nights of tossing and turning coupled with morning aches and pains can cause long term issues
Bad sleep can be wrongly attributed to the previous days’ activities
The horsetail hair is the foundation of all Hästens mattresses
It is completely cleaned and then spun into coils to create a naturally springy material that is hand-tucked between the other layers of material
The Hästens Herlewing has a precise layering system that allows for a bottomless feel and the perfectly balanced sleep climate.
For scientific purposes, I controlled all the other variables before climbing into bed. I wore my usual sleepwear, spent too long in the bathroom doing my nighttime routine, adjusted the room’s temperature to be almost chilly, and grabbed my laptop to accompany me in bed so I could watch something.
Me sleeping peacefully on the Hästens cloud-like mattress.
The Hästens blue-check pattern that has become synonymous with the brand.

The Hästens factory and headquarters in Köping
“I don’t think I’ve ever slept before,” my colleague said with a mix of horror and awe
I’ve been asleep before… but I’ve never really slept.” These kinds of radical statements aren’t all that uncommon at a Hästens store
where one of the renowned Swedish brand’s experts will help you discover your dream mattress through a “Bed Test.” You’ll know you’ve found it when your body feels weightless — the result of ideal spine alignment coupled with heaps of all-natural cotton
and Hästens’ signature horsetail hair (ethically and sustainably sourced during the grooming process)
If you resist instantaneously falling asleep, you’ll be presented with the price tag for your perfect bed, which can range from about $16,000 to $700,000 for the Ferris Rafauli co-designed Grand Vividus
where the 172-year-old family-owned company has earned a trusted renown
where Hästens has only just begun building a presence thanks to a new partnership with North American luxury distributor MadaLuxe Group
those price points feel a bit more staggering
with a second slated for Houston’s River Oaks district this spring
Dallas has some familiarity with the ultra high-end mattress space thanks to stores like Duxiana (also located in Knox-Henderson) and The Luxury Bed Collection (which carries a selection of Hästens products)
but I still felt like I lacked the education to thoroughly comprehend such stunning price points
the Hästens team is more than happy to teach potential clients and curious journalists
A breezy train ride from Stockholm, home to Hästens’ flagship store, takes you to Köping, Sweden (pronounced like shopping). From there, a Mercedes SUV wrapped in the company’s signature blue check design will take you to the Hästens factory and headquarters
stunningly designed by architect Thomas Erikson
For a classic American reference, the heart of Hästens’ operations is reminiscent of Steve Martin’s sneaker factory in the 1991 version of Father of the Bride
elevated ideal that only seems possible when specially constructed for a Nancy Meyers film — except in Hästens’ case
Each exquisitely organized station is devoted to one element of the mattresses’ elaborate foundation: horsehair
and a combination of soft and flexible springs placed in individual
“Every detail is there to keep your sleep as steady and as deep as possible,” Sanja Tegeltija
Hästens craftsmen do their work diligently and almost serenely, the latter of which is crucial according to CEO Jan Ryde, whose first book When Business is Love
was released by Simon and Schuster this January
and we hire only people who fit our culture
and you will also get many invisible things
Every millimeter of that bed is made out of love
“Quiet luxury” has emerged as a post-pandemic trend thanks to shows like Succession
whose affluent characters are dripping in stealth
And though the movement is largely associated with fashion
There are several elements of the Hästens factory that guests are asked not to photograph
Two of note: a wall of A-list clients and a lofted area where the two most expensive models — the Vividus and Grand Vividus — are assembled by master craftsmen within the company
(Though you won’t see it written in Ryde’s book or on the Hästens website
a bit of research reveals that Drake was the first person to purchase a $400,000 Grand Vividus.)
Even the mattress itself contains covert wonders
“Every Hästens bed has features the bed’s owners will probably never notice,” Ryde writes in When Business is Love
“We have our logotypes on the inside of the bolsters
you will be delighted to discover this elegant
tucked away out of sight like an Easter Egg
(We take every bit as much delight in making these Easter eggs as our customers do in finding them—if they ever do.)”
Today, I find myself back in busy, often indifferent Dallas — a far cry from the love-imbued world Jan Ryde has created in Köping. But at the shiny new Hästens store off Knox Street
I’m reminded of the craftmanship and joy that goes into each individually wrapped spring
thoughtfully placed so that a bed partner’s movement is hardly detected
Equestrian imagery evokes the factory’s horsehair room
where hair is hand-braided and then unwound to create bouncier curls
I think of the brand’s almost absurdly serene culture — the antithesis of what one might expect from a company that just crossed one billion Swedish kronor (equivalent to $100 million) in annual revenue
“What could be more valuable than your health and happiness?”
Hästens has officially begun to spread their blue-check spirit in Texas (boutiques aside, Hästens’ popular Dremer mattress is currently found in the Thompson Dallas penthouse)
but I expect Ryde’s message of love and the healing power of truly good sleep will soon sweep North America (with a bit of help from MadaLuxe)

SigmaRoc have launched their first carbon capture facility at Nordkalk’s Köping site in Sweden
today announced that they have successfully installed their first carbon capture unit at Nordkalk’s site in Köping
utilizing Aqualung’s innovative membrane technology
is the first-ever implementation of its kind in the industry
The carbon capture system has been developed by Aqualung Carbon Capture AS
a leading provider of membrane-based carbon capture and separation technology
SigmaRoc have reviewed an array of technologies including amine absorption
The Aqualung membrane technology was considered to be best suited to the Group’s operations based on the following factors:
Low complexity and environmentally friendly
The Aqualung module installed in Köping can capture up to 25% of the process emissions emitted from a standard kiln process at Nordkalk and was initially designed as a ‘capture and release’ system to demonstrate the durability and efficiency of the membranes
The unit will also be connected to a pilot purification module to simulate settings required to produce higher purities of CO2 for different end-use applications that go beyond sequestration requirements
The Group is working with various businesses and solution providers regarding the end use of CO2
including being involved with the NICE (Norvik Infrastructure CCS East Sweden) project to explore CO2 utilization options with various partners
Nordkalk also secured part-funding from the Swedish Energy Agency for the implementation and scaling of the Köping carbon system with the intention to capitalize on the learning from the engineering
An official launch took place yesterday [21 June] at Nordkalk’s Köping site to celebrate the significant step in the company’s evolution
National and regional government representatives as well as customers
local communities and other stakeholders were invited to look around the site
commented: ‘Alongside our fossil fuel replacement programme where we have proven the ability for 100% substitution
the carbon capture system represents a crucial milestone in our journey towards achieving Net Zero by capturing our remaining process emissions.’
said: ‘We are thrilled to unveil our first lime carbon capture plant with SigmaRoc
The project is a crucial stepping-stone towards our ambitious goal of large-scale carbon capture across a wide range of industries
executive vice-president of Nordkalk’s Quicklime Platform
remarked: ‘Our local customers in Sweden appreciate high-quality quicklime which has been produced at Köping for decades
Soon we will be able to offer our customers more sustainable alternatives – with a goal to be the first climate-neutral option in the market – without compromising the quality of the product.’
head of sustainable industry at the Swedish Energy Agency
is an important step towards the realization of a full-scale value chain for carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) – or utilization (CCU) – at the Nordkalk Köping site
The results can then be of use in future implementations at other industrial sites.’

Through collaboration between the Centre for Sustainable Cement and Quicklime Production at Umeå University
carbon dioxide emissions from lime kilns has decreased
"The project focuses on implementing biofuels as an alternative to fossil fuels in lime kilns
which has been very successful" says Matias Eriksson
director of the Centre for Sustainable Cement and Quicklime Production and adjunct associate professor at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics at Umeå University
The project "Renewable Energy Carriers in Quicklime Production" aims to investigate and demonstrate how biofuels can be introduced as an alternative to fossil fuels in lime kilns
The aim is to reduce fossil carbon dioxide emissions in the production of quicklime by promoting the use of renewable energy carriers
The project focuses on implementing biofuels as an alternative to fossil fuels in lime kilns
"The project goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from non-renewable energy carriers in Nordkalk AB's quicklime production by 46 percent
which corresponds to 71,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year" says Matias Eriksson
to implement 100 percent renewable energy carriers at Kalkproduktion Storugns AB's (KPAB) lime kiln in Lärbro
and to integrate 30 percent renewable energy carriers at Nordkalk AB's lime kiln in Köping
"Nordkalk has achieved remarkable success in replacing coal with biofuels at the lime kiln in Köping" says Matias Eriksson
which produces high-quality lime for steel and pulp customers
has exceeded the target of 30 percent of the fuel being biomass and is now working to reach 50 percent
Trial runs with 100 percent liquid biofuel are also being conducted at KPAB on Gotland
a company in which Nordkalk is the majority shareholder
These tests aim to evaluate the suitability of the biofuel for continuous operation.”
In addition to providing practical implementation support to Nordkalk and KPAB
researchers and PhD students at the Centre for Sustainable Cement and Quicklime Production have conducted laboratory studies investigating selected biofuels in a simulated industrial environment
"These studies evaluate the impact of biofuels on limestone
quicklime and refractory materials under controlled conditions
providing a detailed understanding of the possibilities and limitations of fuel switching" says Markus Broström
Professor at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics at Umeå University
The project has resulted in several publications

The Swedish company Hästens makes beds costing upwards of $588,000 – so what’s the story behind them
You’ve probably already heard of the Swedish bed makers Hästens – likely under a headline
that proclaims them the manufacturers of the world’s most expensive beds
Though prices for a Hästens bed start at around $7,500 for a 90cm Excel – and there are accessories on offer too
from bed linen to pyjamas – they reach $588,990 and beyond for the most expensive model.
So what’s the story behind such an investment product – and is the brand's famous blue check a bedroom idea to get behind
to find out just what goes on behind the scenes
The factory tour in Köping takes you through the entire process of building a Hästens bed
from processing horsehair – the foundation for every bed thanks to its ventilating
allergen-free properties – to finishing each piece by hand
as well as flax – which the brand says helps reduce static electricity – are added on top of springs
before being covered with Hästens' check fabric
including sewing to create the signature tufted finish and improve the stability of the mattress
The whole process takes hundreds of man hours – up to 600 for the Grand Vividus
'A Hästens bed has a functional design,' says Jan Ryde
fifth-generation owner and CEO of Hästens and author of When Business is Love
refined over 170 years to enable people to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep
The horsetail hair creates millions of springs
which gives you a floating feeling while you're completely supported
and together with cotton and wool it provides a natural ventilation system.'
For the Grand Vividus – Hästens’ most expensive model – the process is a little different: the edges are finished with leather
and the whole thing topped off with a brass adornment
all covered in a single fabric – usually the signature blue check
'Everything works together to create a safe place for rest so you can wake up more joyful,' adds Jan
'The main factors for good sleep are good support
and that is something we very intently consider in every detail in our beds.'

Hästens as a company is over 170 years old
but the brand has recently celebrated 45 years of its iconic blue check design – the feature that arguably most makes a Hästens bed recognisable.
created the Hästens Blue Check pattern and introduced it on one of our most iconic beds
'He wanted to create a bed that stood out from other furniture
one that made a bold statement but also had a timeless design that would last as long as our beds
The oldest Hästens bed still in use today is over 100 years old.'
While the blue check is the most popular design
the beds are available in a range of colors
there aren’t many of us here who can afford to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a bed – Drake is a well-known customer of the $588,000-plus Grand Vividus
which gives you an idea of who’s buying the highest-end models
But look towards the other end of the spectrum and the prices are more palatable.
told us that some Swedish customers add to the mortgage on their house in order to buy a Hästens bed – such is the value they put on a good night’s sleep
Jan agrees: ‘People are paying more and more attention to the relation between sleep and health
and they are willing to invest in themselves in this field by choosing high quality sleep products,’ he says
We had an opportunity to test the beds in the Köping showroom
and yes – these things are comfortable
Comfortable enough that we almost fell asleep several times
The top mattress is sinkably soft but has more than enough stability – reinforced corners mean you can sit or roll close to the edge without falling off
We also tried several beds out à deux and discovered that the other person’s movements are barely noticeable
But one of the draws of owning a Hästens bed is in the blue check itself
so if you’re someone who loves the idea of owning a piece of design history
you can rest assured you’re investing in quality – as the processes that go into making one of these beds show
the brand takes craftsmanship pretty seriously
‘We put an abundance of love into everything we do
because we love our customers and want to serve them by providing the best possible tool for sleep,’ says Jan
Being surrounded by so much inspiration makes it tricky to decide what to do first in her own flat – a pretty nice problem to have
Ellen can be found pottering around in her balcony garden

earthy premise – a father and son’s road trip to revisit a cherished childhood summer retreat – The Last Journey
directed by Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson
has become the most-watched documentary in Swedish history and garnered widespread acclaim internationally
The Last Journey’s breakout star is Hammar’s father
whose retirement turns out to be less of a golden age and more a gradual descent into depression
despite the unwavering support of his devoted wife and son
Hammar’s bold decision to embark on a road trip with his father
retracing their family’s long-time holiday destination in the south of France
Hammar goes to great lengths to recreate forgotten moments for his father
From the sun-drenched Mediterranean shores to the lively charm of small-town markets
the film vividly recreates the place once so beloved by Lars
the true power of the documentary lies not in the sweeping landscapes
often understated moments between father and son
From Lars’ cautious steps with his mobility walker to Hammar’s quiet resolve to reignite his father’s joie de vivre
The gentle humour of Filip and the antics of his best friend and filmmaking partner bring a lightness to the film
even as the narrative turns to darker themes of loss
Lars’s transformation from the vibrant
inspiring educator celebrated in a heartfelt video tribute by his students to the passive and withdrawn man seen throughout the feature is profoundly tragic
raising difficult questions about the mental care extended to the elderly alongside their physical care
The frustration and helplessness felt by his wife
are portrayed with an honesty that is both raw and disarming
these themes weave seamlessly with tender reflections on the past
comes full circle as they return to his parents’ house in Sweden
This poignant and comfortingly unspectacular conclusion offers a deeply moving meditation on the enduring strength of family bonds and the bittersweet beauty of rediscovery amid the fleeting nature of time
The Last Journey is released nationwide on 21st March 2025

the Swedish TV duo follows what happens when Köping is named Sweden’s most boring town
Swedish TV hosts Filip (Hammar) and Fredrik (Wikingsson), who have collaborated since the late 1990s and won several awards for their television programmes, are preparing to shoot their feature debut, The Cake General
which follows what happens when Köping (in central Sweden
with 18,000 inhabitants) is named the country’s most boring town by a TV magazine in 1984
but a new resident – Hasse Pettersson (Gustafsson)
strongly indebted and slightly alcoholic – decides to show the “Stockholm bastards” a thing or two
by making the world’s longest sandwich cake
“We have always been interested in eccentrics on the periphery of society,” Filip and Fredrik explained
perhaps endearing tribute to people who do things; this hilarious story that stems from reality is also about everything that simmers below the surface in a small Swedish city
his sandwich cake and a different kind of way of life,” they concluded

Several accidents have been reported after motorists were warned to be cautious and patient on the roads due to treacherous conditions and harsh winter weather
which is likely to last throughout the weekend
"Traffic seems to be moving slowly...The snow will likely continue to fall through to Sunday and then conditions could get tough
especially on smaller roads," Carin Berggren at Swedish Radio's traffic department said on Saturday afternoon
including one incident where two vehicles collided and a third skidded into a ditch between Vetlanda and Korsberga in southern Sweden
Four people were involved in the crash and one was admitted to hospital
four people - including two children - suffered mild injuries when two cars were involved in a frontal crash on the 558 county road between Köping and Munktorp in central Sweden
Several single-car accidents were also reported in the towns of Timrå
According to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI)
up to three decimetres of snow was expected to fall Saturday in some locations.
"We have issued a Class-1 weather warning for several parts of the country," said SMHI meteorologist Lisa Frost.
A Class-1 warning means that weather conditions carry certain risks to the public and disruption of some societal functions.
several road derailments were also reported to Swedish Radio's traffic department
particularly in the Stockholm and Sörmland regions.
Carin Berggren advised motorists to be patient and prepared for difficult conditions
and to count on journeys taking longer than usual

commonly referred to in Swedish as Kalklinbanan
is an aerial tramway running from Forsby in Vingåker municipality to industrial town Köping in central Sweden
This is where cement was manufactured until 1978
The cableway was built in 1939 by AB Nordströms Linbanor to transport crushed limestone extracted from the quarry at Forsby to the cement factory in Köping
Buckets of limestone traveled for 42 kilometers above the green fields
through the woods and over the lake Hjälmaren
the transport system was the longest cableway in the world
It eventually became the world’s longest working cableway when the other cableways were demolished or cut short during the 1960s–1980s
Limestone from the Forsby quarry was coarsely crushed and sorted by hand
Passing cableway cars were automatically loaded from a storage silo
after the passage to Köping cars were automatically unloaded
the limestone was fine-ground and ready for cement production
The cableway is supported by 235 concrete trestles and split into 4 sections with stations in Forsby och Köping as well as the angle stations at Granhammar
10 are tall “special trestles” at the crossing of the Hjälmaren strait and Arboga River
and 8 road or railway intersections are protected by steel nets
The limestone was transported in 750 bucket-shaped cars
each carrying 1200 kg for a total capacity of 90 metric tons per hour
After 56 years and a total of 25 million tons of transported limestone
the record-setting cableway finally ceased working in 1997
Since then the cableway has remained mostly stationary and a number of attempts have been made to preserve it as a piece of industrial heritage
was unable to find a suitable caretaker so starting 2013
many parts of the cableway have been taken down and sold as scrap
as well as most of the limestone containers and many of the 235 trestles
the remnants of a record-setting industrial bucket system can still be found dotting the Swedish countryside
The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage – TICCIH – was alerted of the urgent situation and wrote an open letter in February 2013 addressed to key organizations including the Swedish National Heritage Board
This letter reinforces the singular importance of the Forsby-Köping cableway as transportation heritage
urging the authorities involved to avert demolition and assure its preservation
