Zeam runs between Kungsholmen and Södermalm
The stop on the north side is outside the Orangery while the stop on the south is below Skinnarviksberget
Zeam employs technology to make the electric
The development of this public transport has taken place in collaboration with the company Zeabuz – a spin-off from the research center for autonomous marine operations and systems (AMOS) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology – and its technology is going to be used for the driverless ferry
and GPS are installed in the ferry to help the vessel navigate through the water by scanning the environment
making smart decisions on its movement and ensuring a safe docking sequence
For those who are not yet sold on the idea of having an electric
Zeam states that the smart boat has perfect visibility day and night to help the passenger cross lands safely every time
the design team is set to place a security operator on board at all times who monitors the system and is ready to take over the manual driving
the solar panels on the roof of the boat soaks in energy
enough to charge and let the vessel operate on its own
operators plug the electric ferry with a power cable so it can be ready for transport the following day
the driverless watercraft comes and goes every 15 minutes for around 15 hours a day
The idea of autonomous city ferries started at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim
A group of researchers developed it in 2017 and created the first prototype MilliAmpere which would operate a 100-meter crossing between Ravnkloa and Vestre Kanalhavn in central Trondheim
the company Zeabuz was founded in 2019 with the mission to commercialize the technology
This was put into a test operation that was open to the public for four weeks in 2022
1,500 passengers traveled with MilliAmpere2 during the period without any intervention from the commander
At the same time, Torghatten AS joined as a co-owner and operator of Zeabuz
‘Stockholm’s unique water environment makes the city perfect for being the first to launch the technology
the water surfaces will stitch the city together and become a shortcut for all Stockholmers,’ says Reidun Svarva
the ferry transports people to and from Kungsholmen and Södermalm in Stockholm every day
the design team is set to place a security operator on board at all times who monitors the system

People continuously exposed to air pollution are at increased risk of dementia
especially if they also suffer from cardiovascular diseases
according to a study at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden published in the journal JAMA Neurology
patients with cardiovascular diseases who live in polluted environments may require additional support from care providers to prevent dementia
The number of people living with dementia is projected to triple in the next 30 years
No curative treatment has been identified and the search for modifiable risk and protective factors remains a public health priority
Recent studies have linked both cardiovascular disease and air pollution to the development of dementia
but findings on the air pollution-link have been scarce and inconsistent
the researchers examined the link between long-term exposure to air pollution and dementia and what role cardiovascular diseases play in that association
Almost 3,000 adults with an average age of 74 and living in the Kungsholmen district in central Stockholm were followed for up to 11 years
The annual average level of particulate matter 2.5 microns or less in width (PM2.5) are considered low compared to international standards
we were able to establish harmful effects on human health at levels below current air pollution standards," says first author Giulia Grande
researcher at the Department of Neurobiology
Care Sciences and Society at Karolinska Institutet
"Our findings suggest air pollution does play a role in the development of dementia
and mainly through the intermediate step of cardiovascular disease and especially stroke."
the risk of dementia increased by more than 50 percent per interquartile range (IQR) difference in mean PM2.5 levels and by 14 percent per IQR in nitrogen oxide
Heart failure and ischemic heart disease both enhanced the dementia risk and stroke explained almost 50 percent of air pollution-related dementia cases
"Air pollution is an established risk factor for cardiovascular health and because CVD accelerates cognitive decline
we believe exposure to air pollution might negatively affect cognition indirectly," says Giulia Grande
virtually all of the association of air pollution with dementia seemed to be through the presence or the development of CVD
adding more reason to reduce emissions and optimize treatment of concurrent CVD and related risk factors
particularly for people living in the most polluted areas of our cities
The study was funded by the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen
the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs
Karolinska Institutet's funding for doctoral education and the Swedish Research Council for Health

Art work by Carolina Falkholt to be painted over
A five-storey high depiction of an erect blue penis on a Stockholm apartment building is to be painted over just a week after its unveiling following a storm of complaints from neighbours
The company that owns the block, Atrium Ljungberg, told Aftonbladet it had seen the work by the artist Carolina Falkholt for the first time on Wednesday morning – along with other residents of the Swedish capital’s central Kungsholmen island.
“Culture and art are important in developing interesting urban environments,” Camilla Klimt, the company’s marketing manager, told the paper. “Of course, we care about artistic freedom. But at the same time, we must respect neighbours’ opinions.”
Klimt said the work would stay up for a short while so everyone interested could experience it. Although some people had welcomed the penis as an “important part of the debate about sexuality, body and gender”, others – especially neighbours – had “received it less well and perceived it as offensive”, she said.
Atrium Ljungberg has allowed a collective of local artists, Kollektivet Livet, free rein to decorate the apartment block wall as it sees fit since 2008. The murals usually stay in place for at least six months before a new one is commissioned.
Read moreFalkholt said at the unveiling that she hoped her blue penis would be better received in Stockholm than a similar pink one was when it appeared on the side of an apartment building in Manhattan’s Lower East Side in December
The New York work was painted over within three days instead of the intended three weeks after similar complaints from locals. But Falkholt said on Wednesday she thought the reaction in her native Sweden would be different.
“I think perhaps it will be allowed to remain here, people will get the message and let it take its place in the debate,” she said. “I think there’s more intellectual space to discuss the subject, in a nuanced way.”
She said she liked to think of the Stockholm painting – titled Fuck the World – as “a reincarnation”. Falkholt could not be reached for comment on Friday.

The parties have completed a comprehensive renovation of the hotel, which is now ready to welcome guests who want to explore the wide range of entertainment and experiences Stockholm offers.
Fridhemsplan is a major gateway to central Stockholm. The residential buildings, restaurants, bars, stores and vast green spaces in the area create a vibrant and lively environment that attracts leisure and business travelers alike.
A good price, inviting design, smooth self-service and breakfast and hot food around the clock are key elements of the new Scandic Go brand. The hotel rooms at Scandic Go have a youthful design that features smart solutions and clever storage facilities – features that are attractive to a new target group of leisure travelers who want to take advantage of a city’s leisure and event offerings rather than focusing on the hotel stay itself.
The new hotel is certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. By testing new materials, investing in sustainable finishes and interior design with as low CO2 emissions as possible, the aim is to offer an environmentally friendly hotel experience. In the hotel decor, recycled materials have been prioritized, including chairs made from coffee grounds and tabletops made from recycled textiles. In as far as possible, items used in the hotel can also be taken apart for reuse or recycling.
Following the opening, Scandic will operate two hotels with a total of 358 rooms under the Scandic Go brand.

From there it’s along the water and through parks and forests – or you can cross a bridge along the way and head back into the city

Hellasgården This gorgeous recreation area just south of the city is part of Nacka Reserve and is littered with marked trails so you can run as long (or as little) as you’d like
There’s a big lake that is perfect for running around
as well as plenty of paths through the forests – some more challenging than others
You can also combine your run with kayaking or canoeing
cross country skiing or pretty much any other outdoor activity you can think of

Kungsholmen Much of the Kings Island, as Kungsholmen is known in English
is a bit ignored in Stockholm – it’s where you don’t go unless someone you know lives there or if you work there
Which all means that unless you’re hanging around City Hall or Rålambshovparken you’re going to find some pretty peaceful areas right in the middle of the city
City Hall is a great place to start your run – begin at City Hall
and soon you’ll pass Rålambshovsparken and be making your way around the whole island
which is one of the more gorgeous but lesser known routes in the city

Gärdet Nestled up close to Östermalm (and somewhat considered part of Ösermalm) Gärdet is open fields
and some deep forest – and the whole area is literally right at your door step
This is the perfect place for a bookend run – one that starts or ends your day
It will take you right to the outer edges of Djurgården so if you’re looking for a challenge combine the two areas and really go for it
all in the midst of some pretty heady scenery and plenty of peace

If you are one of the people who believe that eventually all architecture will look good
People who live in Kungsholmen enjoy stressing that Kungsholmen is part of inner Stockholm
a notion underlined by the naming of the anonymous shopping mall Västermalmsgallerian*
This is an island where tendencies of any particular neighbourhood character are deemed unnecessary or pretentious
Instead residents emphasise the closeness to nature and how convenient it is to live so very very close to the city centre (did we mention that Kungsholmen is part of inner Stockholm?)
If you have yet to come to terms with not wanting to live in a city in the first place and love interior design magazine inspired done up kitchens
