Peab has secured a contract worth SEK 280 million to construct new test facilities and office buildings for BAE Systems Hägglunds
The development is part of the company's ongoing expansion to accommodate a growing volume of orders
a key player in the global defence industry
has been operating in Örnsköldsvik for over a century
it remains one of the municipality’s largest employers and continues to invest in its local operations
The new construction will be undertaken as a turnkey contract in partnership
with completion scheduled for the autumn of 2026
“It feels really good that we have been entrusted with building the new premises needed to meet the higher demand that BAE Systems Hägglunds is experiencing,” said Anders Gard
He highlighted Peab’s expertise in industrial and security-classified construction projects as a key factor in securing the contract
The agreement also includes optional extensions worth up to SEK 330 million
which could be activated as additional requirements emerge
during which Peab collaborated with BAE Systems Hägglunds to optimise the project and address potential risks
The project marks a significant investment in Örnsköldsvik’s industrial infrastructure
the new facilities will support increased operational capacity and strengthen its long-term presence in the region

The new eFuel project will be carried out in close collaboration with Övik Energi as a development partner and supplier of biogenic carbon dioxide
The new site is planned to be one of Europe's largest facilities for the production of eFuels
will be responsible for the development of the project starting in the spring of 2025
the facility will produce approximately 100,000 tons of eMethanol per year
twice as much as the previously planned eFuel facility in Örnsköldsvik
eFuel production facilities are needed to meet the growing demand for low-carbon fuels and support the phase-out of fossil fuels in hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping
“I am very pleased to announce our new collaboration with Övik Energi
We have already been working together for a few years
so we are glad that this new partnership has now come together
We see a very strong desire from customers and fuel users to transition to sustainable fuels
something our facility in Örnsköldsvik will contribute significantly to
and we are looking forward to bringing it to reality.”
the total available market for green methanol is projected to grow to between 3–5 billion euros in 2025 and 16–20 billion euros in 2030
the share of the chemical industry (including MTO/MTP4)) is expected to be 32%
leading to a diversification of the green methanol market
“We’re thrilled that Liquid Wind remains dedicated to setting up large-scale eFuel production in Örnsköldsvik
We are better positioned than ever to contribute to the green transition
thanks to our ability to operate our combined heat and power plant entirely on renewable energy
we are strengthening our sustainability initiatives in Örnsköldsvik and fostering the industrial collaboration that happens every day at the High Coast Innovation Park business cluster.”

Speed and consistency proved to be key for Lukáš Hutla and Luca Bauer who led home the field at this afternoon’s Qualifying Round at Örnsköldsvik in Sweden for the 2025 FIM Ice Speedway World Championship powered by Anlas
Neither Czech rider Hutla nor German-born Bauer
dropped out of the top two in any of their five Heats with three wins each seeing them end the meeting locked together at the top of the field on thirteen points apiece
super Swede Niclas Svensson set the early pace and won his first four Heats before a disqualification in his last race knocked him off the top
but by this point his work had been done and he was already through
Austria’s experienced Martin Posch led the way following the programme’s opening Heat and he was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Finland’s Max Koivula
Svensson and his compatriot Filip Jäger who all got their challenges off to flying starts with early victories before Hutla and Bauer moved into contention with wins in block two
Svensson remained one point clear following his second successive win and the son of Ice Speedway legend Stefan maintained his advantage with a third victory in a row as Hutla also won again
but Bauer dropped a point after chasing Hutla across the line
Svensson booked his place in the Finals as Hutla and Bauer also made certain of qualification with one Heat remaining
but behind them the pressure was building with five places still on the line and just two points separating fourth to eighth positions
A fall in race two had seriously impacted Koivula’s ambitions
though after fighting back with a win and then a second-placed finish behind Svensson in their fourth Heat he was firmly back in the picture and he signed off with victory to ensure he progressed to the Finals
Reality television star Jasper Iwema started slowly and began to build as the programme progressed and victory in his fourth Heat followed by a second in his last outing were good enough to put the thirty-five-year-old Dutchman through on the same total as Jäger who ended his afternoon with a second behind Bauer
The remaining two qualification spots were filled by Sebastian Reitsma from the Netherlands and Germany’s Maximilian Niedermaier
Reitsma’s day got off to a bad start when he retired from his opening Heat
although the Dutchman dug deep and victory in his fifth Heat ahead of Iwema saw him tied with Niedermaier with the pair both going through by a single point
Global focus now shifts to the Max Aicher Arena in Inzell in Germany on 14-16 March and the Thialf Ice Stadium in Heerenveen in the Netherlands on 4-6 April where today’s qualifiers will take on reigning champion Martin Haarahiltunen and the remainder of the 2025 FIM Ice Speedway World Championship contenders
Both events will be streamed LIVE on FIM-MOTO.TV. For more details and to subscribe click here

NCC has signed an agreement with BAE Systems Hägglunds to build new production premises in Örnsköldsvik
The project is a turnkey contract in partnering form with an order value of approximately SEK 560 million
include a production hall and terminal with staff areas
workshops and garages and will be constructed at the defense equipment Group’s existing factory site in Gullänget
The buildings will encompass a total of 12,000 square meters
“This assignment is a good match for NCC’s expertise in security classified buildings
We have an excellent partnership with BAE Systems Hägglunds and look forward to realizing a project that NCC has been involved in for some time
It paves the way for a successful collaboration with an important business for Örnsköldsvik,” says Niklas Sparw
Work will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in spring 2026
The contract amount is approximately SEK 560 million and the order will be registered in the NCC Building Sweden business area in the third quarter of 2024

The company has a production capacity of 230,000 tonnes of dissolving cellulose
120,000 tonnes of lignin and 20,000 tonnes of bioethanol
all with an origin in sustainable Swedish forestry
The bioenergy generated by the process is used internally and makes Domsjö virtually independent of fossil energy sources
Domsjö's products are mostly sold outside Sweden
Environmental concerns have been its focus for many years
It is the only company in the world to have a closed loop bleaching process with zero emissions.
The 2025 FIM Ice Speedway World Championship powered by Anlas
Kineo and HKC Koopmann fires into life this coming Saturday (1 February) with the Qualifying Round staged at Örnsköldsvik in Sweden where the majority of the field that will contest this year’s two Finals will be decided
This will be the seventh time in eight years that the Swedish municipality’s Kallehov circuit has hosted a Qualifying Round and most competitors should be familiar with the venue located on the country’s icy east coast overlooking the Gulf of Bothnia
five-hundred-and-thirty kilometres north of capital city Stockholm
While a question mark remains over the participation in the Finals of Svensson
who at the age of sixty-five won last year’s championship finale in Heerenveen before announcing his retirement
his son Niclas Svensson will be lining up at Örnsköldsvik alongside sixteen fellow hopefuls representing eight nations
Svensson will not be the only rider with a famous father in action in Sweden
German-born Luca Bauer – who races for Italy – is following in the illustrious footsteps of his father, Günther
who is an undisputed Ice Speedway legend and widely regarded as one of Germany’s finest-ever competitors in this highly-specialised discipline
Both riders face stiff opposition from a field that combines youthful enthusiasm with hard-earned experience and there are a number of riders who will be in action on Saturday who either competed in last season’s FIM Ice Speedway World Championship or attempted to make the cut in Örnsköldsvik in 2024
who won a dramatic run-off with Huusko to top last season’s Qualifying Round
assured of a place in the Finals after finishing the 2024 series in second, Maximilian Niedermaier will represent his famous family in Örnsköldsvik
He scored a point at last season’s concluding Final at Heerenveen
but with eight others of Saturday’s competitors also finishing 2024 with FIM Ice Speedway World Championship points the German faces a fierce fight
Included among these racers are Finland’s Max Koivula who was seventh last year with a season-best finish of fifth
Sweden’s Jimmy Hörnell Lidfalk who was tenth and Dutch all-rounder Jasper Iwema – an accomplished road racer who in the past has contested the FIM Moto2™
Moto3™ and MotoE™ Grand Prix series – who finished 2024 in twelfth
All three progressed to the 2024 Finals via the Qualifying Round and will be hoping for repeat performances
though this is only the first step the entire field must negotiate just to earn the right to line up against Haarahiltunen who is aiming to win his fourth consecutive title in 2025
Peab has been commissioned to build new test facilities and offices in Örnsköldsvik
The customer is BAE Systems Hägglunds and the contract is worth SEK 280 million
BAE Systems Hägglunds is a global player in the defense industry
The company's local connection goes back over 100 years and today it is one of the largest employers in the municipality
The company's operations are developing and expanding to meet an increasing level of orders
"It feels really good that we have been entrusted with building the new premises needed to meetf the higher demand that BAE Systems Hägglunds is experiencing
We have solid expertise in industrial construction and security-classified construction projects," says Anders Gard
The contract includes options for call-offs for another SEK 330 million in addition to the contract amount of SEK 280 million
This construction contract was preceded by a so-called phase 1 contract whereby Peab is contracted to work with the customer to map out an optimized project with the right quality and to manage risks and uncertainties
which entails signing a construction contract
The project is a turnkey contract in partnership
Construction will start in the spring of 2025 and is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2026
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2025

ÖRNSKÖLDSVIK, Sweden — When I told Victor Hedman’s father I was coming to his town
I came to explore Örnsköldsvik (pronounced ORN-SHOUL-SVEEK)
the mill town of 30,000 on Sweden’s northeastern coast
It hugs the banks of the Baltic Sea’s Gulf of Bothnia and is just a five-hour drive from Stockholm
The 125-year-old city is a story of contrasts
Smokestacks and cranes hover near the modest skyline
which includes a ski jump and the jumbo red waterslides at Paradiset
a waterpark wonderland that features a spa
with the most famous landmark restaurant a family-owned Italian place called “Mamma Mia’s.” The pizzeria doubles as hockey museum
“Ovik,” as Swedes call it, is known for producing two things: paper and star hockey players. There are more Art Ross Trophy winners coming out of this city than any other in the world, with Peter Forsberg and Canucks twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin
along with the likes of Markus Naslund and Lightning Norris Trophy winner Victor Hedman
began their careers on the half-dozen public rinks and countless other open-air surfaces here
That it’s a small town and there’s not much else to do
“That’s the rumor,” Daniel Sedin said
There are a few options for getting to Ovik from Stockholm, the site of the two NHL Global Series games last month between the Lightning and Sabres
You can also take a train or a quick flight
An electrical issue shut down Ovik’s airport
so we got diverted to a nearby town called Umea
15-minute walk and an hour train ride later
it took me just a minute to breeze through and zip down the one-story escalator. Olle was there waiting for me
wide smile and wearing a blue jacket and jeans
It was a gray Volvo V90 with a Lightning logo on the window of each side of the back seat
Olle took the wheel and the sound of classic American rock — Boston’s “More than a Feeling” — filled the interior
I’d later find out Olle’s phone’s ringtone is AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.”
His family moved there when he was a teenager
He played hockey a bit — “I wasn’t any good,” he said — but he eventually landed a job where pretty much everyone else did: at the Modo paper mill
Olle retired this past July after 45 years at the mill
You ask many locals about Ovik and what they mention first is the pungent citric aroma coming from the large smokestacks that rise from the subtle
“It’s the smell of money,” said Jonatan Lindquist
a Swedish journalist and one of Victor Hedman’s childhood friends
The blue-collar workers would leave the factory and pile into the local arena
taking out their anger at their bosses with soccer-like chants for their home team
would be packed to the brim of its 5,000 capacity
They watched their heroes like Anders Hedberg
the first player from Ovik to make the NHL in the 1970s
how hard they worked and what they did on the ice.”
“You got to watch the best players in Sweden up close
You want to start a conversation in Ovik but don’t know the person? Just say “Modo” and you’ve got a fast friend. Naslund, the former Modo and Vancouver Canucks star
said it’s the first thing you bring up in business meetings
but he also served as the equipment manager for Modo for a quarter-century
He’d pack yogurt and sandwiches for Victor and older brothers Johan and Oscar
and they’d spend their afterschool hours playing hockey
There are six rinks in town and multiple family-made sheets around various neighborhoods. There was a hockey academy
where select players (ages 16-19) practiced before school
took a hockey theory class and then practiced again in the afternoon
Hockey has always been the big show in this town
unlike some Canadian and American towns where kids jumped from one travel team to another
there were no “tryouts.” Hockey was about community
“You played all the time. Before school
The rink Hedman played on was 500 meters from his house
Olle pointed it out before pulling into his driveway where the headlights illuminated a welcome sign
There’s a hockey goal set up just past the porch of the green
we met Victor’s nephews — Oscar’s boys — Oliver
his arm in a cast thanks to jumping off a playground swing
Each room features photos of the three sons
where Truls is on the hardwood floor with his toys and Legos
Oscar and Johan as youngsters line the top of one cabinet
We walked upstairs and past a trophy case that held pucks
medals and other mementos including a watch given to one of the best players on the world junior team in Sweden that year
There’s Victor’s world championship gold medal
acquired in a trade for one of Hedman’s sticks
On the wall is a framed and signed polo shirt of the “IceBreakers,” a Modo All-Star team formed for charity that featured Forsberg
The “Gold Puck,” given annually to the best player in Sweden (Hedman won it in 2014-15 after the Lightning’s run to the Cup final)
Another end table held a scrapbook Hedman’s wife
The wedding album for the high school sweethearts
The couple got married in July 2017 in the town’s biggest church
Elisabeth and Oscar sat on the couch and shared their favorite Victor stories
which flared when a call went against his team when he was 5 or 6 years old
they played hockey like it was life or death,’” said Per Hagglund
an Ovik native and long-time journalist for Örnsköldsviks Allehanda who has covered Modo’s pro team for 30 years
The NHL highlights were few and far between
so the main reference point young Ovik players had for hockey stars was a few miles from their homes
Naslund and Forsberg were born 10 days apart
They would go on to set the standard for hockey players growing up in Ovik
becoming two of the best players in the NHL by the 2002-03 season; Forsberg won the Hart Trophy and Art Ross
with Naslund taking home the Lester Pearson Award (now called Ted Lindsay Award) as the players’ choice for most outstanding player
The Hedmans recalled how Naslund and Forsberg trained in Ovik during the summer months
“There have always been guys playing in the NHL from around here
recently competing in his 900th pro game (600 for Modo)
the club (founded in 1921) was in Sweden’s highest pro league
but it has since fallen to the second tier
a big blow to the town’s pride and the team’s finances
the 7,000-seat arena is one-third or half full
though Modo’s recent 12-game winning streak has led to some optimism
Oscar was proud there would be a full house for a mid-November showdown with Umea
It was Modo’s first sellout in several years
was a teenager at the time playing for Modo’s youth teams and was watching at a cousin’s house as the family celebrated with champagne
“It gave you something to shoot for,” Olofsson said
There were 30 bottles of Dom Perignon waiting for them
one of the many former stars watching from afar
Oscar, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Washington Capitals in 2004
had watched his favorite local stars play when he was a kid
Now he was one of them — and a champion to boot
The Hedman’s basement is a shrine to their children
There are photos of the three boys together on the walls as you walk down the steps
dubbed “Lightning Blvd.,” in their old jerseys
There are milk cartons with Victor on the back
On one wall, there’s the backdrop from the 2009 NHL Draft where Hedman first addressed the media. To the left of that, there’s a framed Sports Illustrated cover of Islanders legend Mike Bossy
With the Islanders picking first in the draft
There are four newspaper front pages in Swedish
“Hedman wrote dream contract — ‘This is fantastic.’”
On the opposite wall is a fake movie poster
playing off the “Lord of the Rings.” It’s “Lord of the Rinks” and the heads of Forsberg
the Sedins and others take the place of the movie characters
Hedman recalled a bus ride while in juniors when the entire team was silent as they listened to the 2006 Olympic gold medal game on the radio
They cheered on Ovik’s hometown heroes: Forsberg
the Sedin twins and Naslund (who was injured)
Then the announcer on the radio got louder
“Gör en otrolig räddning med klubban!!!!!!”
“(Henrik) Lundqvist … makes an incredible save with his club!”
“It’s one of those memories that’s going to stay with you your whole life,” Hedman said
I’m on the bench and (Lundqvist) is making another save — for us to win the World Championship.”
Hedman’s photo is on the Wall of Fame at Modo’s new arena
It’s a beautiful building that opened in 2007 and sits on the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia
You can see the smokestacks of the paper mill across the bay
But its presence is still a sore spot for locals and former players
The old Kempehallen was torn down a decade ago
It was where the local players made history
but the adjacent practice rink is still there
The Hedman kids spent countless hours there
both on the neighboring soccer fields and on this sheet of ice
Melinder was in charge of the town’s hockey school
working closely with Modo’s junior program
The coach/advisor/mentor once visited a Soviet hockey camp
The fact Melinder’s reign spanned decades allowed him to coach different generations
from Forsberg and Naslund to the Sedins and Hedman
“Melinder was a big part of it — he was groundbreaking,” Naslund said
He was one of the first ones in Sweden that really pushed for attention to detail and doing things at high speed
you had to behave the right way around town
This city is really proud of their hockey team
But this has been this city’s identity for generations
That’s why it’s frustrating to Naslund and other legends that the club has fallen on tough times
Ever since the team was relegated to the second division a few years back
from the team’s struggling play to changes in management and players after decades of continuity (even Melinder has retired and lives outside of town)
Where once Ovik had one of just three hockey schools with national status
in warmer and more heavily populated towns nearer to Stockholm
“Not everyone wants to be where it’s dark and cold,” Naslund said
Players have more options to make the jump to the NHL
whether it’s playing in juniors in North America or going to college
who played two years for Frolunda HC. Modo sold the paper mill to another international company
and I think a lot of people haven’t been to the rink since that day,” said Adam Johansson
an Ovik native and journalist for the local paper Allehanda
“You have to build this success over years to get the crowd back to the arena
he’ll be a Norris winner,” Hagglund said
He’ll be the next Modo player you’ll write and talk about.”
But if Modo can’t reclaim its spot in the top Swedish league this season
Hagglund predicts “a lot of problems.” He believes young players of Norlinder’s ilk will leave for better opportunities
“This is the season to go to the top league
or you’ll have to start at the bottom again,” Hagglund said
he donated $50,000 to build a couple of outdoor rinks in Ovik
one of which is next door to the old practice facility near his home
Hedman has run a hockey school in Ovik where kids can pay the equivalent of just $200 U.S
for a week of instruction and interaction with pros
A few of the kids from those camps have gone on to play for Modo
Ovik’s former stars don’t just give back, they come back. Several of the players, including Hedman and the Sedins, have built summer homes along the “Gold Coast,” a waterfront street that gets the name because its most high-profile residents have won gold medals at either world championships or the Olympics
Forsberg is part owner of Ovik’s main hotel
Naslund has been part of a group investing in the neighboring waterfront apartments
but it’s not a big deal — nobody bothers you,” Daniel Sedin said
“It’s a nice quiet town to live in after you’re done.”
Naslund and former NHL defenseman (and current Modo captain) Tobias Enstrom have homes on the other side of the bay along the coast
“There’s some trash talk on which side has a better view,” Naslund said
Hagglund gave me a tour of Fjallraven Arena and its wall of fame
where dozens of Modo and NHL jerseys hang in frames from the wall
a stick tap to the tradition sparked by Forsberg
with Naslund fondly recalling how the owner gave them free meals after wins
“It was like a little carrot,” Naslund said
Naslund and Forsberg did a commercial for the restaurant
pretending they were working in the kitchen
The problem today is that young kids don’t play sports at all — there’s a lot of TV and esports
But hockey culture has always been big in Ovik
The next generation wants to be the Sedin twins or Hedman
Before I left for the Ovik airport, Olle took me for one last drive. We went by the old hockey arena, drove along the Gold Coast to check out Victor’s renovated, two-story, waterfront home. We went to the track where Victor trains every summer with former Penguins defenseman (and Modo standout) Hans Johnsson
part of the Naslund and Forsberg birth class of 1973
“The man behind Victor’s renaissance,” Olle says
who met nearly 40 years ago on New Year’s Eve at an Ovik hotel bar
recently celebrated their 37th anniversary
Their three sons bought them a Caribbean cruise as a present
“You never know what would have happened (with Victor) if I hadn’t moved here,” Olle said
“Everyone comes here to discover ‘the secret.’”
When I returned to Stockholm to cover the two Lightning games there
Hedman played a starring role in his storybook homecoming
He had an assist in a win over Buffalo on Friday night
then notched a power-play goal on a one-timer in Saturday’s sweep-clinching victory
The sellout crowd at Ericsson Globe chanted his name as he left the ice
I asked Hedman if the fact that Modo (and his brother Oscar) had won that night
He nodded: “The entire Hedman family is happy.”
When Hedman walked off the podium and toward the dressing room
I thanked him for helping make my trip to his hometown such a success
Joe Smith can be reached at jsmith@theathletic.com
This is not just any game. He’s playing an NHL game in his home country.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to come back home and play with the team that I’ve been a part of for more than 10 years,” Hedman said before arriving in Stockholm. “It’s going to be an emotional couple of days.”
He never thought he’d be able to do something like this when he left Sweden as an 18-year-old to go play in the NHL. Hedman called this a dream come true, but it’s one of those dreams you don’t know you have until it comes true.
As a child, Hedman looked up to many NHL players and there are even more Swedes in the NHL than there were 15 years ago. Sweden has steadily narrowed the gap with Canada for most NHL players per capita.
And Hedman ranks as one of the biggest Swedish stars in the league right now.
Not only does he hail from a hockey country, but also one of the biggest hockey cities in Sweden. Örnsköldsvik, might have sent the most stars to the NHL per capita. It’s at least in the conversation.
“It’s super special,” Hedman said of Örnsköldsvik’s legacy. “I think we have only 65,000 people in our community and we have all those players. The Sedin twins (Daniel and Henrik), (Peter) Forsberg, (Markus) Näslund, hall of famers, so that’s super special for me. I was lucky.”
The three of them account for about 100 fans making the 350 mile trip to Stockholm and that’s just the fans they know about.
“It’s an honor representing O-vik, for sure,” Olofsson said. “It’s cool being here with Hedman as well. We worked out together a lot. I’ve gotten to know him really well so it’s going to be special to play against him.”
Hockey fandom in Örnsköldsvik has followed its players. Colorado was very popular for Forsberg, arguably the greatest Swedish hockey player. When the Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Markus Näslund all played for Vancouver, the Canucks led the city. Now, most of Örnsköldsvik line up behind the Lightning.
O-vik’s NHL history goes back to Anders Hedburg, who signed with Winnipeg of the WHA in 1974 and then the Rangers in 1978. But it was the 1973 birth year that really broke through.

LFV is now making the last preparations to enable RTS from Sundsvall
ultimately reducing operating costs and increasing the efficiency of operations.”
Saab sensors are deployed at Örnsköldsvik Airport that will provide data directly to a Remote Tower Center (RTC) also located at Sundsvall
The RTC utilizes multiple high-definition displays
various input devices and new air traffic controller tools that provide the same functionality as those already in use at Örnsköldsvik’s tower
“Saab and LFV adopted a strategy that used new equipment that uses the existing procedures already approved by regulators and applied them to a new application,” said Anders Carp
Head of Saab’s business unit Traffic Management
“Air Navigation Service Providers and Civil Aviation Authorities across the globe now have a successful model in place for the regulatory approval process for remotely controlled air traffic services.”

Örnsköldsvik has submitted its bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2024
putting it in the running with Sweden’s biggest cities
Örnsköldsvik is bidding to be the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024
Located in Northern Sweden the city is home to just over 30,000 people and last bid to host the competition in 2016 following Sweden’s Eurovision 2015 victory
Speaking to SVT a representative for Örnsköldsvik explained that the city is ”big with music and big with nature”
with Eurovision being a homecoming due to the links it has in the Swedish music industry
The city is pushing its bid as a climate-neutral event
Should Örnsköldsvik be successful in bidding to host the contest would be held at the Hägglunds Arena
The arena was opened in 2006 and has the capacity for up to 9,800 people in a concert setting
It has previously hosted the heats of Melodifestivalen in 2007
it was deemed that Örnsköldsvik did not have the capacity required to host the Eurovision Song Contest
It was proposed at the time that cruise ships could be docked in the harbour for visitors to stay on
Loreen won the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden with “Tattoo”
She is the first female two-time winner of the competition
having previously won the 2012 contest with “Euphoria”
This makes Sweden the joint most successful country in Eurovision alongside Ireland
Loreen has also become the first woman and the second person overall to win Eurovision twice

has received an operating licence for remote tower services from the Swedish Transport Agency
This will make Örnsköldsvik Airport the first airport in the world to have remote air traffic control services
“Remotely controlled towers are a world-first that is the result of close cooperation between LFV
the airports in Örnsköldsvik and Sundsvall and Saab and the engagement of a whole region
The issuing of the operating licence means that we have passed a quite crucial milestone on the path to commissioning
The objective is to go live during the first quarter of 2015
I want to thank everyone who has helped to make remotely controlled towers a reality through their knowledge
ideas and commitment,” says LFV’s Director General Olle Sundin
Something that began as an idea and a vision of a paradigm shift in air traffic control almost ten years ago has now been realised through close cooperation between LFV and Saab
LFV worked out and developed the operational concepts and Saab developed the technical solutions
“With remotely controlled towers we are creating completely new opportunities for the whole of the aviation industry
We are retaining the high safety level and airports using the system will be able to reduce their operating costs and avoid expensive investments that would otherwise be necessary,” says Mr Sundin
Since 2012 remotely controlled towers have been in place in Sundsvall
which has a control centre for remote air traffic control services
Örnsköldsvik Airport has been a very successful pilot airport
high quality and development have been important watchwords
“The use of remotely controlled towers increases accessibility for air travel at the same time as we are raising the efficiency and safety of the air traffic control service,” says Mr Sundin
The national approval given by the Swedish Transport Agency can also be accepted internationally so as to avoid time-consuming validation processes in each country where remotely controlled tower services are put in place
“The Swedish Transport Agency has followed the whole process and the development work with great engagement
This has been quite crucial for the safety case,” says Mr Sundin
Remote tower services – how they work
Remotely controlled cameras and sensors are positioned at the airport and everything they register is linked in real time to the air traffic control centre and projected on a 360o view
Air traffic control takes place via the air traffic control centre where air traffic controllers control and manage the traffic
This is a completely new and path-breaking service for the industry
Remotely controlled towers give LFV the possibility of delivering services safely while reducing costs to customers. LFV has gained a great deal of experience from this cooperation with the industry
but also from its close interaction with the Swedish Transport Agency
As a result the development of the service has moved from idea to reality in record time
The technology is now ready for use for live operations at Sundsvall
where the air traffic control centre is located
This will make Örnsköldsvik the first airport in the world to have remote air traffic control
LFV continues to work with various partners in the European SESAR programme to further enhance and refine the concept
Images of remotely controlled towers can be downloaded from lfv.se/en/Press
There is also a link to a film about remote air towers

Home › News Releases › Commercial Vehicle News Releases › Nobina orders 47 Volvo hybrid buses for Swedish cities Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik
Volvo Buses has secured yet another large order for hybrid buses
for inner-city operations in the cities of Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik
This is Volvo’s largest hybrid order in Sweden to date
“The new hybrid buses produce extremely low exhaust emissions and are far quieter in operation that the older buses they replace
This will be noticed in the form of improved air quality and less noise in the city,” says Martin Atterhall
one of Europe’s largest providers of passenger transport
The first 30 hybrid buses will start operating in Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik in mid-June
with the remainder being delivered in autumn 2014
All told Volvo Buses has sold more than 1350 hybrid buses
The order encompasses 36 two-axle Volvo 7900 Hybrid buses and 11 Volvo 7900 Hybrid Articulated buses
as well as 11 diesel-powered Volvo 8900 low-entry buses
All of them meet the latest European Euro 6 emission requirements
The 18 metre long articulated hybrid is the latest addition to Volvo Buses’ model range and can carry up to 154 passengers
This is more than any other hybrid bus on the market
Both the hybrid models are equipped with Volvo’s hybrid driveline
This is a parallel hybrid system where the electric motor and diesel engine can be used either together or independently of each other
The energy generated during engine braking is stored in the on-board battery pack and is later used to power the electric motor
the bus operates quietly and emission-free
This technology gives a fuel saving of between 30 and 40 per cent depending on the model
which helps further reduce the vehicle’s climate footprint
Emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulates from the hybrid buses are half as much as for the cleanest conventional diesel-powered buses

So put your prejudices to the side and let’s explore why Örnsköldsvik is a wildcard worthy of your consideration
Because Örnsköldsvik is super hard for non-Swedes to pronounce
which will lead to moments of great comedy as the commentators try to say it right
Julia Zamiro will be the only one to succeed
2. Because f*ck hotels: Maria will let five people stay in her house for 89 euros a night
3. Museums? We don’t need no stinking museums. This map of Örnsköldsvik attractions features a water park
It’s also the birthplace of several famous hockey players like Markus Nasland…
6. Because Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw has endorsed Örnsköldsvik as the host city, according to the city’s Eurovision ambassador Peter Forsberg
7. Because it’s home to Ting 1, a controversial apartment building that looks like a game of Jenga gone wrong
Because it hosted the first semi final of Melodifestivalen 2010
who almost beat Anna Bergendahl in the final
9. Because the Fjällräven Center welcomes ladies who lunch…while watching hockey
A recent lunch menu included fish with tarragon and jelly pancakes with bacon and lingonberries
Because the Fjällräven Center is home to Örnsköldsvik’s MODO hockey team
and maybe they’ll linger around the locker room during Eurovision
So should SVT showcase a new part of Sweden
William Lee Adams is the founder and editor-in-chief of wiwibloggs. His memoir “Wild Dances: My Queer and Curious Journey to Eurovision” is available now. You can follow him on Instagram @williamleeadams and Twitter @willyleeadams
Scandinavium might aswell host it as denmark are going to win next year and that stadium represents Scandinavia
It will be full of nords and sweds and dans and a few icelandics hah
“Unfortunately that’s not very helpful
since the “i” in “bird” is pronounced differently depending on where you’re from
Good point. Maybe I can specify and say it’s in British English, as heard here: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/british/bird
Though that pronounciation can probably differ a lot too
“The letter “i” in “bird” is pronounced the same way as “ö”.”
Unfortunately that’s not very helpful
since the “i” in “bird” is pronounced differently depending on where you’re from
anywhere from an “uh” to an “er”
I am all for mixing it up and having a new city host
And I really do hope that hockey team sticks around for the party…
Every Eurofan should be upset as a bottle of water costs three euros in Sweden
I still hate juries took us back to the Cold North
because it will give Eurofans one more reason to slam Sweden and complain that it should have been in Rome
You spell Örnsköldsvik correctly but you struggle with should
Ahh we’re still in love with you anyways <3
Out of the potential venues it’s the smallest one
And all of us know: small venue means small number of participating countries
For example: Belgrade Arena (2008) – 25 000 – 43 countries Olimpiyskiy (2009) – 25 000 – 42 countries Esprit Arena (2011) – 66 500 – 43 countries Baku Crystal Hall (2012) – 25 000 – 42 countries Malmö Arena (2013) – 15 500 – 39 countries B&W Hallerne (2014) – 10 000 – 37 countries Wiener Stadthalle (2015) – 16 152 – 39 countries (if we count only the EBU members) So… Read more »
Wiwibloggs convinced me more on the Scandinavium
Yet I still put the Tele2 arena as my favourite
Italy has 10,000 places more known than this
i was going to say no but these pictures of hot men convinved me
It’s cool when new cities are given a chance to host ESC
The pictures of those hotties are irrelevant
I’m sure we can find blond hunks in Stockholm and Gothemburg too
if you said the entire local hockey team was willing to do an interval act half naked
everyone can see i am the real and GreAtY Mario Vision of Gay Love <3
The letter “i” in “bird” is pronounced the same way as “ö”
Ö-vik is an abreviation for the city commonly used
the “Ö” letter is kinda hard to pronounce
and practice 😀 I guess the closest english thing to the Ö is “eh”
Ok number 2 convinced me örnsköldsvik 2016 it is
@ Well you can really try but you can’t fool me.
Because of a minor typo in my mail adress my avatar changed.
Örnsköldsvik would be the perfect host city for our GreAtY Vision … 😀 <3

Sixteen acts are taking part in O melodie pentru Europa 2018
the Moldovan national selection for Eurovision 2018
the Wiwi Jury has been reviewing all the entries
and one of them has emerged as the clear favourite: DoReDos with “My Lucky Day”
The quirky trio has received an impressive 7.63/10 from the ten jurors that made up this panel of music unprofessional
DoReDos are not the only act with a score over 7
as Che-MD‘s rock-folk tune “Inima-n stanga” received a 7/10
there’s Nicoleta Sava‘s Spanish kitsch delight “La esencia del sur”
four acts managed to earn a score of less than 4/10
Anna Odobescu’s “Agony” and Viorela’s “The Gates of Love” both received 3.81/10
while Bella Luna was on 3.31/10 for “Moments”
But right at the bottom was Ruslan Tsar with “Come to Life”
But let’s take a look at the full jury list
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJqe3M24PcY
DoReDos and “My Lucky Day” are unquestionably the best package of this year’s Moldovan national selection
Europe is going to have a lot of fun with this one
The worst: In the unlikely case you haven’t heard this song yet
Doredos are the highlight of this: they’re quirky
likeable and they manage to put a smile on your face
The song is basically a definition of what Moldova is at Eurovision: fun
this lends so well to become another memorably bananas Moldovan performance
The best: This entry is totally bringing it
The traditional sound blends well with the rock
that is hard to find in other rock entries in O melodi
but it sure as hell should reach at least top three
The worst: “Inima-n stanga” sounds like a Linkin Park song rearranged with traditional folk instrumentation
Each music style complements the other and this odd combination blends well
The production of the studio version needs work — and I’m not really sure this would work at Eurovision — but it’s a good national final entry
The best: This is so bad I’m almost crying of joy
a whole country would die if we hear the Moldovan act in Lisbon yelling “ay
Nicoleta brings us a taste of the early noughties’ summers in Spain and it’s absolutely wonderful
I don’t know what’s best about it: that she sings about feeling the “essence of the south” when it’s -12ºC in Chisinau or the fact that this song has been written by Spaniards
Not that we’re the best dancers in the world
but “La esencia del sur” is essentially a dated song performed by a lady who has neither the stamina nor the Spanish accent to pull it off
I like the parts when she doesn’t sing — the backing track is beautifully produced — but that’s about it
* Ties have been broken by preferential vote
Should Doredos win O melodie pentru Europa
Nicoleta Sava – Esencia del Sur (rehearsal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdughYl-K38
I think that some of these songs are quite overrated
The best package for the best result in Moldova is Aaron and Sandy
but I don’t feel like it will win in Moldova….
Moldova should just send SunStroke Project every year
There are rumors that SunStroke Project will represent Russia featuring Julia Samoylova
Probably just a rumor but I’m surely curious how that would work
As much as I like ballads and downbeat songs
I could watch the bear dance for an eternity
DoReDoS would be my third pick for the win in Moldova (after Sandy C & Aaron Sibley
but they probably have a best show in live
although I’m not calling any of the selections today (I know who I WANT to win each one

Daily news about the Eurovision Song Contest
The Swedish city of Örnsköldsvik might send a bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2024; the city has at least expressed its interest in doing so
Örnsköldsvik is the fourth city that has expressed its interest in hosting the 68th Eurovision Song Contest 2024 after Loreen’s win last Saturday
The cities that might bid to host are: Stockholm
The latter is situated in the north of Sweden and has approx
30,000 inhabitants. The last time Örnsköldsvik came close to hosting the contest was in 2015 after the Swedish victory of Måns Zelmerlöw
but back then Örnsköldsvik was deemed to not have the capacity needed to host the 2016 contest because the city did not have the necessary hotel rooms
there was a proposition that cruise ships would heighten the number of available hotel rooms
and we are still in the early stages of anything basically
it is still anybody’s game when it comes down to hosting the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest
This year’s contest is won by Sweden’s Loreen with the song “Tattoo”. Loreen’s win marks the first time a female singer has won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, since Loreen also won the 2012 song contest with the song “Euphoria”
which is one of the most successful songs in Eurovision history
Next to this, Loreen is the second singer to win the contest twice; Irish Johnny Logan came before her

I just knew that he flew for Ryanair ever since he mentioned that his airline has fitted staircases into the aircraft (btw I know that there must be several other operators which have also)
The fact that he flew on the 737 supported that
By the way can you please tell the source from where you got to know that he is a Ryanair pilot as no other website on the World Wide Web (at least one that I could find) reveals which airline he flys for
practical person and explains things in a way people can understand
Since I come across Mentour Pilot i can’t stop watching them .I really like the way Petter explains everything
Petter is very knowledgeable about flying and he isn’t too hard on the eyes either!!
