The Winnie the Pooh plush toy saved the youngster's life(Image: Newsflash)A toddler was saved from a bullet by her Winnie the Pooh toy after a teenager allegedly broke into the family home and killed her father.
The two-year-old girl, who can't be named due to her age, had been clutching her teddy, which caught the bullet and buffeted any significant impact. The 16-year-old boy who fired it had mistaken the mother, father and their two children for another target with the same last name, a court was told.
He allegedly opened fire with a rifle, killing the 40-year-old dad who was asleep on the sofa of the family home in Vastberga, Stockholm, and badly injuring the mother. The eldest daughter had been asleep in her room and went unnoticed by the killer before he fled.
The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, is on trial at Sodertorn District Court in Sweden, accused of murder and attempted murder. The court heard he left the area in a taxi, and travelled nearly 10 miles to Tullinge, where he killed two women, aged 20 and 60. Four others who were at the residence managed to escape.
He was later caught and arrested by police alongside two other teenagers, one of whom, a 15-year-old boy, had organised the murders and the other, a 16-year-old girl, had provided the weapon as well as the addresses, prosecutors said at the start of this week's trial. The shooter was offered SEK 150,000 (£11,235) per person killed, the court heard.
The two-year-old was wearing this thick romper and cuddling the toy, both of which buffeted the impact of the bullet (Image: Newsflash)The 15-year-old boy was charged with inciting the murders and attempted murders. The girl was charged with aiding and abetting murder. All three are also charged with aggravated weapons offences for jointly possessing the automatic weapon used in the fatal shootings.
The 16-year-old's taxi rides to and from the crime scenes were paid for by a 22-year-old with connections to a local criminal gang that has been targeting rival groups. The 22-year-old is charged with accessory to murder.
Attorney Rebecka Lewis, who represents the victims, told local media: "It is the most gruesome case I have ever dealt with." Anders Thornberg, national police chief, said earlier: "We are shocked by the brutality and see that the limits of violence continue to be pushed forward. The police are working with full force to prevent crime and stop the wave of violence."

It’s a familiar transaction for both players
Today’s roster move is the sixth time Lekkerimaki has been recalled from Abbotsford this season
and it’s the ninth reassignment for Bains
although Lekkerimaki makes approximately $100K more at the NHL level
Lekkerimaki is arguably the best prospect in Vancouver’s pipeline
he hasn’t gained much traction in the NHL this year due to the frequent taxiing between Vancouver and Abbotsford
Sweden native has recorded two goals and one assist in 11 contests
His 49.8% CorsiFor% at even strength and 12.5% shooting percentage are solid
but it’s not a large enough sample size to make any concrete judgments about his development
He’s played far more promisingly with the AHL Canucks
In his first full year in North American professional hockey
Lekkerimaki is nearly a point-per-game player in the AHL with 19 goals and 28 points in 32 contests
It won’t be enough to earn the Red Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL’s top rookie
but it’s an impressive season nonetheless
Bains has been less productive in a fourth-line role
Despite four games separating him from losing his rookie status
Bains has looked somewhat lost at the NHL level
He is a physical player with 24 career hits in limited action
but he doesn’t play well enough on the defensive side of the puck to overlook his offensive shortcomings
where he’s collected seven goals and 20 assists in 32 games this season
Transactions| Vancouver Canucks Arshdeep Bains| Jonathan Lekkerimaki

Sweden-based melodic death metallers DEGRADEAD will release their fourth album
The CD was recorded between January 14 and February 2 at Panic Room studios in Skara with producer Thomas "Plec" Johansson and marks the group's first release with new drummer Amit Mohla
"This album ended up being the best DEGRADEAD album so far
Commented Johansson: "It has been great going back to the roots even on this one
No drum triggers or sample replacements used whatsoever
which is otherwise so commonplace in today's metal productions
with getting the right sounds from the start and having Amit actually playing the parts until we got the takes we needed
switching snares for different songs etc..
No plugins were used in the process either other than for very surgical tasks and special FX
but five times more fun and inspiring plus it's five times more fun to listen to."
The "For Better Or Worse" video can be seen below
recently joined fellow Swedes ENGEL as their new frontman
Regarding what impact Sehlin's addition to ENGEL will have on his status in DEGRADEAD
DEGRADEAD said: "Mikael is still our vocalist and he is still 100% dedicated to DEGRADEAD and this will not affect DEGRADEAD."

A 17-year-old teenager was on Wednesday sentenced to 12 years in jail – the longest prison sentence Sweden has ever given to such a young person – over the triple murder
Södertörn District Court found him guilty of three murders and seven attempted murders
was found guilty of instigating the murders and sentenced to ten years in jail
The judge said that the sentences corresponded to lifetime imprisonment for an adult person
the killing spree took place at the peak of Sweden’s gang conflict last autumn between the so-called Foxtrot gang and a rival breakout group
which saw the brutality brought to new heights with even the innocent relatives of gang criminals actively being targeted
and shot dead a 40-year-old father of two young girls
where he found the mother with the youngest of the couple’s children
One of the bullets went straight through the woman’s body
continued through the Winnie the Pooh plush toy that the child was clutching
who was able to stop herself from bleeding to death by pressing her hand into the bullet hole – both survived
The mum was hugging the child and the child was hugging Winnie the Pooh
This is the most horrific criminal case I’ve ever had,” the Aftonbladet newspaper has previously quoted the mother’s legal counsel as saying
The family had no connection to gang crime
It's believed to be a case of mistaken identity
the shooter went to the house of a well-known artist in Tullinge
whose family happened to be related to a gang criminal
he killed a 60-year-old grandmother and a 20-year-old woman described as the family’s “bonus daughter”
The older woman’s 33-year-old daughter and her three underage children were in the house at the time
“The same perpetrator goes to the homes of people he doesn’t know
searches for and in cold blood shoots the people he comes across
It’s so awfully brutal,” lead investigator Annika Teckner told Swedish news agency TT
the police officers have to deal with the children at these crime scenes where there are dead bodies
they are carried out with blankets over their heads so that they won’t see the horror,” she said
and sentenced them to 16 years in jail and juvenile detention
Police have raised concern of gang leaders recruiting younger and younger people to carry out serious crimes
luring them in until they’re trapped in an escalation of violence
This month, Sweden and Denmark announced a joint response to gang crime
vowing to step up information-sharing and efforts to prevent the recruitment of young criminals
told Aftonbladet that one of the hardest things for her client during the trial had been that the accused showed no regret
“It would have felt better for her if they had confessed and shown their regret
But this total detachment that they showed was difficult for my client,” said Lewis
but rather a sense of resignation and sadness for society
How can such young people do this to a family with children
