a new district will emerge at the intersection of Vasastan's industrial brick and Stockholm's new skyline
This area will accommodate 6,000 new homes and 50,000 new workplaces
The atmosphere in and around Stockholm's new district
creates a unique vibe unlike anything else
The large number of international companies and grand architecture here immediately evoke thoughts of other world metropolises
Hagastaden will contain nearly 50,000 workplaces and 6,000 new homes
business and research will blend with housing
creating a vibrant district with an exciting contrast between historical environments and future architecture
The excellent accessibility already present in the area will be further enhanced when the district gets a new metro station
The metro will be extended with a new line from Odenplan to Arenastaden
connecting Vasastan with Solna: Hagastaden
Atrium Ljungberg is one of the largest property owners in Hagastaden and has been present in the area for over 30 years
we own and manage 105,000 square meters of office space
including characteristic industrial properties such as the former Apotekarnes Mineral Water Factory
a spectacular building in one of Sweden's most visually striking locations
Atrium Ljungberg has several land allocations in the area where we will create a safe and sustainable district that will be active for much of the day and week
We are planning for urban quarters with both offices and residential buildings with lively ground floors

Wander around Stockholm’s Södermalm and you’ll find stylish cafes and charming narrow streets
Even though its core is scattered across some 14 islands, Stockholm is a compact
accessible city – and it’s easy to wander between its distinctive neighborhoods even on a short trip
But since you won’t want to be on the move all the time
use our guide to Stockholm’s best neighborhoods to work out where you’d most like to linger
Though Swedes tend to be more understated than many Europeans
you can get a taste of opulence in Östermalm
brims with high-end designer fashion outlets
award-winning bistros and champagne-popping clubs
moored yachts and outdoor bars line one side of waterfront Strandvägen
with elaborate 19th-century buildings on the other
Most are apartment blocks containing some of the priciest pieces of real estate in the city; others are occupied by hotels
interior design stores and foreign embassies
wolves and moose as well as (human) historical reenactors
Dedicated to Sweden’s most successful music export ever, ABBA the Museum is another (campy) highlight
the greenhouses and flower beds of Rosendals Trädgård
This is a particularly gorgeous spot in the fall
when the landscape bursts into a color palette of rich autumnal tones
While a contemporary buzz infuses every neighborhood of Stockholm, the city’s historic center, Gamla Stan
offers an unmissable opportunity to soak up its impressive past
the meandering cobbled streets here are steeped in history
having witnessed witnessed everything from medieval markets and bloody battles to labor demonstrations in the 20th century
Taking in Gamla Stan’s brightly colored facades, scattered statues, royal buildings and well-organized museums is likely to be on most visitors’ must-do lists
Yet while the district’s charm is undeniable
Don’t miss it – then be sure to venture further afield to get a true sense of how Stockholmers live
this sprawling city borough is home to fashion-forward students studying at the Konstfack art school
as well as hip young couples and families priced out of Södermalm
These populations mean the neighborhood is scattered with hidden gems
homeware stores and a single-screen cinema are highlights of the Midsommarkransen district
while Telefonplan is home to several intimate live-music venues
There’s also Färgfabriken
a cultural center close to Trekanten tram stop that hosts contemporary art exhibitions
The surrounding area is poised to be redeveloped into an area called Lövholmen
with new apartment buildings and restaurants to come on the former industrial shoreline
In the busy commercial heart of Stockholm and near Stockholm Central Station
functionalist concrete office buildings and chain stores predominate
Yet what the area lacks in charm it makes up for in convenience
with a plethora of hotels within easy walking distance of Stockholm’s main attractions and neighborhoods
The classy hotels and rooftop bars around recently revitalized Brunkebergstorg square are popular after-work hangouts for well-heeled Stockholmers
A magnet for bearded media types and vintage-clad craft ale drinkers
this gentrified area in Södermalm (Stockholm’s southern district) draws visitors who enjoy browsing independent boutiques and sourcing international goodies from organic delicatessens
The micro-neighborhood is ideal for people-watching during an extended fika coffee session
We recommend settling in at one of the many restaurants and top-notch cafes around Nytorget square
which buzzes starting at 5pm on weeknights
as locals leave work and pack the curbside terraces
What the island of Kungsholmen doesn’t have in terms of nightlife or tourist attractions, the largely residential area largely makes up for in playgrounds, parks and sports facilities. Rålambshovs Park is a beloved picnic spot and workout zone
drawing folks interested in beach volleyball
The 10km (6-mile) loop around the island is popular with runners and hikers thanks to its views over some of the prettiest sections of Stockholm’s cityscape. You can also rent kayaks or bikes to get around, work up a sweat at one of the free outdoor gyms or even jump off the jetties at Hornsbergs strand and go for a swim
Best neighborhood for independent restaurants
Vasastan is home to well-to-do Stockholmers shunning the more in-your-face glitz of Östermalm
Many of the apartment blocks here date back to the turn of the 20th century
with art nouveau influences and landscaped inner courtyards
the main draw are the neighborhood’s independent bars and restaurants
especially on the strip along Rörstrandsgatan
Bastin spent four months renovating his Vasastan apartment
I was born and raised in Stockholm and spent much of my life in the Östermalm district
But I felt that nothing there ever changed
and I wanted to live somewhere that felt alive even after the shops close
I was randomly walking around and found my dream home in Vasastan
Vasastan is just a 10-minute bike ride from the city center
but the neighborhood feels like a totally different world
It has its own vibe: It’s a lot less stiff-upper-lip than Östermalm
but it’s not pretentious and artsy like Södermalm
It doesn’t feel like everyone is in a hurry
Most of the architecture dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries
with wonderful examples of jugendstil (art nouveau) buildings—imagine curling ironwork over doors and windows
that has a big play area as well as a soccer pitch and boules courts
spacious apartment inside a 1930s building
I share it with my girlfriend and two daughters
adding an industrial-standard kitchen where I love to cook for friends
We also have a 430-squarefoot rooftop terrace
When I’m not at home, I spend far too much of my time at Tennstopet, a traditional Swedish restaurant and bar that’s been going strong since 1867. (It moved to its current location in Vasastan in 1965.) Recently, several pioneering New Nordic restaurants have opened in the neighborhood, including Lilla Ego
which is now one of the most popular places in the city
lots of great new cafés and stores have opened
The shopping scene is a mix of old places that have been here forever
so I never really feel I have to leave Vasastan
Too many visitors come to Stockholm and never venture beyond the cobbled streets of Old Town and the city center
I think this is what sets this neighborhood apart—it manages to be both cozy and a vibrant part of the city

A few years ago we wrote 'America: Say hello to Nordic Fashion.' Now some people can't seem to get enough of it
Swedish fashion has been exploding since the turn of the millennium
and Swedes have never been as interested in fashion as now
an exhibition called ”Svenskt Mode” (Swedish Fashion) is on display
”We wanted to focus on Swedish fashion for everyone and want fashion to get a new focus group,” says Michael Elmenbeck
who is the creative director of Swedish Elle

the exhibition ”Svenskt Mode” a selection of the very best among the already enormous range that’s out there
”The exhibition is rather about looks that have been significant for the development than specific years or seasons,” says Cia Jansson
AltewaiSaome and Bea Szenfeld are some of the successful Swedish designer brands represented

the OG Stora Bageriet is centrally located near Kungsträdgården

as well as outdoor tables for when the skies are clear

Stora Bageriet's spiraled morning buns are exquisitely layered and contain Ceylon cinnamon and grapefruit zest
The sourdough bread lineup is equally outstanding with rotating loaves

S:t Paul Bageri has sweeter offerings in the form of little pâtisserie delights like chocolate torte and chokladbollar (chocolatey oatmeal balls)
It's also impossible to overlook its bread selection
which includes everything from seeded sandwich buns and Danish rye to traditional baguettes
We suggest ordering a cup of joe and pastry to cozy up in there and taking a loaf and a few other goodies when it's time to go

South Stockholm neighborhood bakery Robin Delselius Bageri has been around since 2016
The owner's family was in the baking business as far back as the 1960s
so the recipes are decades old and passed down from generation to generation
the amount of thought and meticulousness that goes into the bakes here is not surprising
its plentiful of delicious treats and pastries are well worth the visit
There are exquisite pieces of chocolate hazelnut cake adorned with chocolate tuile, handcrafted chocolates, and the classic Swedish sponge cake prinsesstårta layered with jam
Grab a loaf or two from the bread selection

Fabrique is a quintessential Scandinavian bakery that blossomed into a chain and dotted across the city
Even though the bakery has expanded since its erection in 2008
it's deserving of a visit from you for an afternoon fika of wood-fired kanelbullar and coffee
The best part is no matter where you are in the city
you're likely to turn the corner and see one when the urge hits
You'll be greeted by rustic sourdough loaves of all shapes and sizes
plenty of traditional braided buns with cinnamon
The snug and intimate atmosphere is replicated in all of the locations
with candlesticks burning in the window and distinct white tiles as the backdrop to all the bread and buns
Don't miss out on its saffron bun and chokladbollar

A short subway ride will get you over to Söderbergs Bageri
but patrons can utilize the nice outdoor seating for those Scandinavian summer days
It has a wide variety of breads lined up behind the counter
from seedful boules to dark rye and sandwich buns
always pumped full of different creams or seasonal jams
coated in crystalline sugar and finished with some decorative element to hint at the flavor
a popcorn-flavored donut with caramel mousse and caramel sauce
and the Söderbergs take on a semla donut filled with marzipan and oat cream
They come in large round shapes and are topped with various seeds that nestle their way into the etchings made by the special roller
Break them apart and top them with a smear of butter or a thin slice of cured salmon

Rosendals Trädgård is on the centrally located island of Djurgården
which you can easily access by a footbridge
maybe the short ferry ride would be more fun; the ferry is part of Stockholm's public transport
Next door to some of Stockholm's most prominent museums
Rosendals Trädgård spans a large green space that bumps up against one of Sweden's national parks
Rosendals is a stunning place to visit in the warm months
The setting and quality of the bakery make this one of the best places to visit for an afternoon fika
conceived around a large wood-fired oven that churns out rustic loaves of sourdough from heritage grains each day
There are plenty of sandwiches to choose from that incorporate produce from the farm when available
delicious kanelbullar and kardemummabullar adjacent to slices of chocolate hazelnut cake
and seasonal bakes like lussekatter — a sweet bun thought to resemble a sleeping cat — and semlor are up for grabs
Spend the afternoon strolling through the gardens after bread and coffee
rosendalstradgard.se
The larger space can accommodate more people than some of the other bakeries around town
so it's a good choice if you're gathering a large group over fika
and pain au chocolat are on the menu next to some innovative creations
such as cinnamon buns that are halved and piped with cream — a play on a semla
it makes delicate chocolates filled with mousse
and bite-size tarts for when you want to treat yourself
The sweets are perfect for enjoying with a cup of joe in the wintertime
order a variety pack to go and walk to the park nearby

Brunkebergs Bageri is situated on the edge of Vasaparken in Vasastan
making it the perfect place to grab a bun or chokladbollar before heading to the park to eat it
The bakery rides the line between bread and pâtisserie quite well
darkened loaves are perfect for a morning toast
consider the mini squared-off sandwich buns
but not to be missed are the handmade dammsugare
which directly translates to vacuum cleaner
They are an iconic Swedish punsch-roll made from leftover cake and rum and wrapped up in bright green marzipan
cylindrical treat is dipped in chocolate on either end
it's a confection to indulge in at Brunkebergs Bageri

Skeppsbro Bageri is set just off the water in the central old town known as Gamla Stan
When you inevitably end up on this little island to wander the narrow streets with the colored facades
It serves up sandwiches and smørrebrød on organic sourdough that has been cold-fermented
made from emmer and spelt grains that are ground onsite
You'll also likely find sourdough focaccia topped with seasonal produce
and maritozzi (Italian buns stuffed with flavored whipped cream) along with all the Swedish favorites
or sit down for a kanelbullar or a saffron bun

Swedish bakery culture is ingrained in the country's history. Thanks to Sweden's favorite pastime of an afternoon fika with friends and colleagues, there are plenty of bakeries to choose from across the city. Narrowing in on the best bakeries in Stockholm wasn't easy, but after trying numerous kardemummabullar and semlor, as well as consulting locals, we think these are the best bakeries, and we think you'll agree.
Princess Sofia of Sweden debuted a shoulder-length haircut at the Christmas in Vasastan concert in Stockholm yesterday
our minds obviously went directly to Duchess Catherine's quite similar new length
Princess Sofia had hair that mirrored Middleton's before the change too
previously wearing her long layers softly curled into loose waves
while her new shorter hair features a dark-brunette hue that's more similar to her British counterpart's
the Duchess's royal lob is "a practical style and a great option for a mom who has had long hair
who has a busy life and is short on time."
Whatever the inspiration behind the change, the next question is obvious: Will Princess Sofia get bangs like Kate's too? Now that Middleton is rumored to be regretting hers
we'll go ahead and speculate that the answer's probably no
Princess Sofia's inspiration (maybe?):

It can get a little cold in Stockholm
The Swedish capital has long been a haven for those with curious appetites

the city is rich with both trendy and traditional spots – you just have to know where to look.
Here you’ll find Michelin-starred New Nordic spots

Torsgatan 21 – restaurant and delicatessen – with an interior design that seeks to preserve the original feel of the building while creating a modern meeting place in Vasastan
was designed in the 1930s by Ivar and Anders Tengbom and was the first concrete high-rise to be built in Stockholm after the Second World War
The design studio at Tengbom has developed the concept for Torsgatan 21
The decor in the new restaurant captures the feel of the old printing works with materials such as metal – stainless steel and zinc – black colours and untreated steel
“We worked with lighting from the ceiling beams that gives a workshop atmosphere from the history of the building
The materials are both rough and stylish at the same time
A new venue is needed in this part of Vasastan and with this new overall concept the Bonnier building will now offer something to everyone in the neighbourhood
regardless of whether they live or work here,” says Ninna Söderström
The people behind the restaurant are Martin Magnusson and Magnus Bergh
The new restaurant will offer everything from breakfast and bakery to take-away deli and a dining room with high ambitions
A high-quality lunch will be served here to up to 150 guests
There is also scope for private parties in separate rooms
The “Torget” will serve well-cooked street food inspired by world flavours
“The idea is that this restaurant will be more than just an eatery
a meeting place with everything you could want in the way of food for a whole day
high-quality cuisine and hospitality are the cornerstones regardless of whether you choose a croissant in the Café
a burger in Torget or take home a rich stew,” says Martin Magnusson
Bonnierhuset was completed in 1949 and designed by Ivar Tengbom and his son Anders Tengbom after an architectural competition decided back in 1937
The Second World War came in between and delayed the building start
The building has been extended and renovated over the years on the basis of Tengbom’s original drawings

Tengbom is one of the leading architectural firms in the Nordic region. The company stands for forward-looking and living architecture with buildings and milieus that people want to visit and in which they want to live and work. Tengbom has some 550 employees at twelve offices in Sweden and Finland. Tengbom was founded in 1906 by Ivar Tengbom, a prominent figure in Swedish architecture.
there was nothing splashy about Totême’s anticipated runway debut at Stockholm Fashion Week
the 18-look collection was shown in Elin Kling and Karl Lindman’s design studio
an oasis decorated in the mid-century style located in Vasastan
Kling, who first made a splash as a fashion blogger, is known for rigorously editing her look. “I have always been very strategic when dressing,” she’s told Vogue. Among the collection’s sure bets were a double-breasted midi-length trench and a perfect coat for packing: hooded, with a drawstring waist, and made of 100 percent recycled black polyester.

Gärdet is somewhat of a natural child of Östermalm
local etiquette has residents specify Gärdet or Östermalm "sort of"
Gärdet is now the home of Dowager Countesses and cash poor children of polite society

If you love Swedish minimalist clothing brands and go "deliiish!" when you think of overly complicated lattes-to-go
it was decided that the centre of Stockholm nevertheless ought to be demolished to make room for a more modern and bold architecture
To this very day the new buildings continue to be admired and cherished by tens of people
most of whom are architects living in Södermalm
Others have abandoned the area in favour of tourists

People who live in Kungsholmen enjoy stressing that Kungsholmen is part of inner Stockholm
a notion underlined by the naming of the anonymous shopping mall Västermalmsgallerian*
This is an island where tendencies of any particular neighbourhood character are deemed unnecessary or pretentious
Instead residents emphasise the closeness to nature and how convenient it is to live so very very close to the city centre (did we mention that Kungsholmen is part of inner Stockholm?)
If you have yet to come to terms with not wanting to live in a city in the first place and love interior design magazine inspired done up kitchens
this could very well be the island for you
* The name Västermalm refers to the western inner Stockholm district
harmonising with the already established names of its southern
Stora & Lilla Essingen: Sturdy islands upon which a motorway rests
At some point it was decided that this historic gem would be best used for the vending of historically inaccurate miniature Vikings and bad coffee
A predicament that has skewed the tourist-to-local ratio
making it nearly impossible to stereotype its residents (who most probably exist..
If you love history and are no taller than a 17th century cobbler
an apartment in Gamla Stan might just be for you
This former working-class district is long since gentrified
Cockneys will still come over for the weekend pint although most of the island now caters for middle-aged journalists and young hipsters
While some residents secretly pretend to live in Berlin
others will swear on their vintage Vespas to be living in Palermo
Solidarity is a hallmark to this island and locals would gladly consider inviting members of the poor into their homes (just not this weekend when the parquet floor is being refurbished)
an event yet to be visited by an actual farmer
If you think "what is that supposed to mean?" when you hear the expression "liberal elite"
you too might want to consider moving to Södermalm
This prestigious suburb is the dream of CEOs and other members of the mercantile classes
it is so prestigious that young people growing up in its crown jewel
regularly state that they live north of the city
Trying to characterise Solna is like trying to characterise the Swedish cheese hushållsost
It’s not so much a particular kind of cheese as a cheese
But despite not being able to articulate exactly why
locals remain highly sentimental about their borough
A predicament that has led it to be not only Stockholm’s premier producer of common men and women
Bromma: Petite bourgeoise & bourgeoisie
conveniently close to the city and during the winter months filled with branded down jackets
Houses range from large seaside bourgeoise to small formerly working class but now shut-up-mortgaged-middle class
residents will take every opportunity to mention where they are from
They are from Bromma and they are homeowners
Söder om Söder (south of Södermalm): The Marimekko middle class
This down-to-earth type area is ideal for everyone from subtenants from the north who put down "craft beer" under "interests" in job applications
to ordinary families and homeowning bobos (bourgeois-bohèmes)
The common denominator being a profound appreciation for teak furniture and the modest lines of Scandinavian 50s design
a style invariably referred to as "good taste" (god smak)
It simply doesn’t get more New England than this in Stockholm
People in leisure class Nacka strive to look like they just got off their sailing boat
Good to know is that local regulation stipulates ladies to wear crisp pastel canvas sailing shoes and men worn down leather ones
Lidingö: Homeowners with premium priced watches
With its characteristic French sounding i-vowel
the name Liiiidingö has become synonymous with Swedish wealth
Lidingö residents prefer local trains (bana)
running on separate tracks from the rest of Stockholm’s commuter trains and underground system
Mikael Barclay is a marketing professional
keen social observer and serious dabbler in writing
Born in Stockholm to a Swedish mother and a British Jamaican father
he felt destined to have a go at living abroad for himself

This is reflected in Stockholm’s antiquing scene which is full to the brim of exquisite shops to find all kinds of exciting treasures—from bargain finds tucked away in the back of secondhand shops to luxurious purchases from specialist shops curated by experts
with all kinds of fantastic places further afield than the stretch from Vasastan down to Sodermalm
this central hub holds the majority of Stockholm’s gold mines for finding antiques
so we’ve highlighted here some of the best places to check out in Vasastan
Stockholm has a number of excellent antique shops | © Skitterphoto / Wikipedia Commons
which is a more clean and neat store with a great range of furniture and pottery and as a very bright and open shop
it feels relaxing and calming to be inside
Just a few streets over, on Odenplan, is Mormors spegel
and the shop really feels like it could be the quirky collection of an elderly relative
It is full to the brim of all manner of items
so it’s fantastic if you just want to browse or are looking for inspiration
Vasastan straddles the line between a bargain hunter’s paradise and a place for people looking for slightly more exclusive items
Ostermalm, on the other hand, is more clear in its antique’s identity; it is the place to go if you are looking for luxurious boutiques and gorgeous items ranging from pottery to furniture to art. Ostermalm has two of the best antique auction houses in Stockholm, Stockholm Auction House and Bukowskis
These are fantastic places to go if you are looking for something really unusual

Sibyllegatan is perhaps the best street to begin on in terms of shops. Sibyllegatan, Linnegatan, Kommendorsgatan, and Nybrogatan together create a square with a range of great shops to check out. Sjöström antiques very carefully curate their collection of furniture, lighting, jewelry, and ceramics, to create a store that feels very exclusive. A few doors down is Rehns Antikhandel which
has the same exclusive and hand-curated collection which consists mostly of international antiques and interior design pieces
It owners say that the one thing all the items have in common is that they are fond of them
highlighting the personal touch that makes the store unique

Ostermalm is full of excellent stores and really is the best place to go for anyone with a real passion for antiques

For anyone looking for retro or antique lights, Gamla Stan has the best shop in the whole of Stockholm. Affaren is one one of the main streets in Gamla Stan, Stora Nygatan, and has everything from huge standing lamps to tiny desk lights. Another specialist shop in Gamla Stan is Fartygsmagasinet on Osterlanggatan
which focuses on nautical and maritime antiques
making it a great place to pick up something for anyone with a boat or an interest in the sea
Gamla Stan combines a good collection of stores with a fantastic environment
as you may very well walk past a building that used to host the antiques you are purchasing
Keep going and you’ll come to Brandstationen, a shop that focuses on jewelry interiors, watches, and other accessories housed in an old fire station that is over 100 years old. Finally on Hornsgatan, Gubbens Antiks is a superb place for anyone interested in ceramics
they have a particularly good collection of items by the Swedish artist Lisa Larson

Stepping away from Hornsgatan down to the south part of Sodermalm, there is an excellent antique furniture shop called M&L Antik on Södermannagatan as well as Soderklenoden on Ringvagen which has a wide variety of different antiques
Stockholm’s antique scene is very wide and varied
Stockholm is a perfect place to come if you are searching for something very specific or if you are hoping to stumble upon something special
Like the city itself Stockholm’s antique scene is eclectic and well worth exploring

Stockholm has been our favorite for years. He is sometimes somewhat overshadowed by better-knowncity trip destination Copenhagen, but the city really has everything a person is looking for. This was a list of the best coffee and breakfast spots written quickly in Stockholm. Now just books. Need hotel tips? Please read here further
This delicious bakery is located in the northwest of the city
because you can relax here in the beautiful parks
but also stroll through the pleasant streets with flea markets
restaurants and therefore: insanely delicious bakeries
in addition to all kinds of delicious sourdough breads
you may also find the tastiest Semla in town
Semla needs some explanation: the pastry is a real Swedish delicacy and is
a brioche bun with a delicious spice/almond filling with a good dollop of vanilla cream on top
Top the dough with icing sugar – this is how you recognize your Semla
Should not be missing from the Swedish diet and therefore not during your diet trip Stockholm
who stand in line for hours (if necessary) to get a coffee and something tasty
There are two locations in the city and both are nice
Although the location at Sibyllegatan offers a slightly more spacious and comfortable seat for a longer seat
An extensive breakfast is also possible here
from homemade granola to sandwiches and delicious egg dishes
And of course – at both locations – croissants
the bullars (or good) a sweet bread sandwich
There are three Pascal locations in the city
So you can always find one near your hotel
Start the day well with a fantastic cup of coffee
Pascal is the place to be if you want a quality cup of coffee
It is not without reason that they also have their own roastery where all the delicious beans are roasted
At Pascal they also make their own variation of the Semla
by pouring the delicious filling into a croissant - called Cremla
In addition to delicious sweet ones pastries they also have savory ones breakfasts
Choose one bowl with avocado and other vegetables or for a goat's cheese salad
The real coffee geek goes to Drop when in Stockholm
Here they source (and taste) beans from all over the world
Looking for the perfect one blend for the store
Through them wholesalebranch they provide many Swedish cafés with good bags of beans
So you will certainly encounter Drop more often throughout the city
The couple (owners) are in the shop almost every day and serve the coffee with care
There is also plenty of choice for a bite to eat
A menu that appeals to you (numerous options) and all this in a more than stylish interior
candles on the table and cool art on the wall
From eggs with salmon to Fried chicken waffles
All this of the highest quality with fresh products
