"The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game." According to the statement, Rockstar requires the extra time "to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." The next iteration of Rockstar's urban crime role-playing game is one of the most hotly anticipated video games of all time -- with more than a decade having passed since GTA V's September 2013 release -- and all anyone has seen from it is the singular trailer Rockstar showed off in late 2023. Nothing has changed in that regard, as the release date announcement did not have any new images in tow. More information on the game is supposed to be shared "soon," so a bit of new footage could be coming fans' way in the next couple of months. 7:38 pm UTC • 8 minI’ll give you the bad news first: Grand Theft Auto VI got delayed by roughly six months And now for the good news: Grand Theft Auto VI got delayed by roughly six months Video game delays are always a mixed bag from the perspective of potential players We want to get our grubby hands on huge games as soon as possible those desires frequently conflict—and when they do mourn the theoretical games that we dreamed would be both released soon and completely polished those beautiful visions were merely mirages the real release date behind the curtain may have been clear for some time internally Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer which cited a need for “extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. https://t.co/YgaIn1cYc8 pic.twitter.com/cyeK7GM6Ob But there are some wider-ranging ripple effects Let’s briefly lay out the winners and losers I vaguely remember feeling frustrated by long-ago game delays but I much more clearly remember being satisfied by delayed games that used the extra time to fulfill their potential it’s possible that the delay will enable Rockstar to release the game on PCs as well as consoles concurrently you’ll have more time to whittle away at your backlog of good games you haven’t gotten around to but I've been keeping tabs on this for years (since my big 2018 story about Red Dead 2's crunch) They certainly haven't eliminated *all* overtime but everyone I've talked to at Rockstar says it's night and day from previous projects we don’t yet know when the next details and trailer will drop Nintendo: Entering 2025, two major gaming-related launches had been announced: GTA VI, and Switch 2. Now the Switch 2 stands alone, a Bananza for Nintendo. It’s not as if Nintendo would have had trouble moving as many Switch 2s as it could manufacture, even with GTA hogging holiday dollars. But now the Switch 2 will have the whole mainstream Nintendo could sell more software than it would’ve otherwise depending on what first-party surprises the legendary game maker may have in store as stocking stuffers An indie game has never won Game of the Year at the Game Awards but Clair Obscur and Blue Prince may well be the leaders in the clubhouse Other games slated for late this year: Up until now, the release calendar for this holiday season has looked a little light which is what happens when everyone’s waiting to see when Rockstar will decide to suck up all the spending in the industry we may see more games nail down late-2025 dates instead of considering delays of their own (And some previously announced dates may move around.) Ghost of Yōtei Electronic Arts’ next Battlefield or skate could reap the rewards of non-GTA oxygen being restored to the room but GTA VI could name its price and find millions of people willing to pay but it recovered to more “modest loss” territory later in the day and there’s still a lot of coin coming into the GTA coffers ArchiveWe’ve been around since Brady was a QB BOSTON (AP) — Fans of the hugely popular video game series Grand Theft Auto will have to wait a little longer to play the latest version Rockstar Games said it delayed the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI until May 26 the release of which has been talked about for several years It didn't provide any specifics on why the release date has been pushed back from fall of this year the goal has been to try and exceed your expectations and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception," the company said in a statement "We hope you understand we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." the chairman and CEO for Take-Two Interactive Software stood by Rockstar in a statement and said it supports the company taking additional time to realize their creative vision He said it still expects a "groundbreaking blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations." "While we take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence," Zelnick said in a statement "As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders." Fans of the game reacted to the delay with disappointment but also a shrug -- since it has been suggested the game would be released in 2024 and then this year On a Reddit discussion forum dedicated to the game several fans noted they had seen this before and wouldn't be surprised if the release was delayed again saying an exact release date means it will actually happen this time around One of the last times the game garnered this much buzz was in 2023 when a trailer for the game was leaked online Rockstar released the first look of the sixth game 15 hours earlier than planned That 90-second trailer gave fans a taste of what comes next for the game The trailer suggested the next installment would be set in the Miami-inspired Vice City and star a female protagonist of these details will remain part of Grand Theft Auto VI Much anticipated title was due in autumn but fans will now have to wait another year after the announcement by Rockstar Games Rockstar Games has delayed the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI until 26 May The game had been scheduled for release this autumn but the lack of a definite date was beginning to raise concerns within the industry Announcing the decision via a brief post on its website the company said: “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” It has been more than a decade since the release of Grand Theft Auto V making it the one of the most successful video games of all time alongside Minecraft and Tetris GTA V was itself delayed several times before its eventual arrival in September 2013 No other information on the GTA VI delay has been given. However, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two is due to report its financial results on 15 May, when questions from journalists and shareholders will no doubt dominate the session. Hopefully this will mark the final delay for GTA 6 – a game that has already inspired countless memes due to its release date always seemingly being out of reach. this one might not come as a huge surprise Developer Rockstar has announced that the most anticipated game on the planet has been delayed “We are very sorry that this is later than expected,” reads the studio’s statement, released on its official website and social channels. “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” Previously the game had been slated for a 2025 release date, so you’ve got a few extra months to wait before your glorious return to Vice City. GTA 6’s reveal trailer broke numerous viewership records on YouTube when Rockstar shared it back in 2023. Gameplay details were scant to say the least, but as a mood piece it established that you’ll return to Rockstar’s biting pastiche of Florida, where 2002’s GTA: Vice City was also set. Unlike the latter, though, GTA 6 is set in the present day and takes aim at many modern malices from social media and poorly thought-out tattoos to gratuitous twerking. Note that the new release date is specific to the day, which is an indication that Rockstar’s pretty confident about hitting it. We’d expect to see gameplay before the end of 2025, and will be pestering Rockstar for it accordingly. Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. The game was set to release some time this year, with periodic soft assurances from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick that the game was on track Rockstar games announced the delay and wrote "We are very sorry that this is later than you expected The game was officially announced in December 2023 and is set in a modern-day Vice City (modeled after Miami and South Florida) although Rockstar has not yet officially divulged details on these characters or their relationship Be among the first to get details on the new magazine and membership Create account Community Safety Department Director To Resign Amid Tension With Cambridge Police Department From Lab to Startup: Harvard’s Office of Technology Development Paves the Way for Research Commercialization People’s Forum on Graduation Readiness Held After Vote to Eliminate MCAS 8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports Two federal agencies launched investigations Monday into Harvard and the Harvard Law Review for discriminating based on race and gender in article selection and journal membership The investigation, which will be undertaken by civil rights offices at the Department of Education and Department of Health and Human Services, will examine whether Harvard and the Law Review violated Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act It comes three days after the Washington Free Beacon published an article accusing the Law Review of discriminating against white applicants and authors The Free Beacon cited leaked memos and Slack messages that framed authors’ nonwhite racial identity as points in favor of publication and urged editors to consider “DEI factors” in reviewing article submissions HHS and the Education Department cited incidents reported in the Free Beacon as reasons for the investigation “Harvard Law Review’s article selection process appears to pick winners and losers on the basis of race employing a spoils system in which the race of the legal scholar is as important than the merit of the submission,” HHS Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig W the federal government can revoke federal funding from institutions that engage in discrimination based on race The statute has become a favorite legal tool for Republicans seeking to revoke Harvard’s federal funding When the Trump administration froze more than $2.2 billion in federal funding to the University it alleged that Harvard flouted “civil rights laws” by permitting antisemitism on its campus The administration has also consistently attacked diversity which it asked Harvard to dismantle as a condition of keeping its federal funding as racial discrimination barred under Title VI But when Harvard sued last week to block the freeze the University’s lawyers argued that the government failed to follow procedures — including thorough investigations and written findings — that it must complete before pulling funding under Title VI But the Title VI investigation will look into the relationship between the two “This investigation reflects the Administration’s common-sense understanding that these opportunities should be earned through merit-based standards and not race,” Anthony F acting director of HHS’ Office for Civil Rights HLS spokesperson Jeff Neal emphasized the Law Review’s independent status in an emailed statement and wrote that the Law School “is committed to ensuring that the programs and activities it oversees are in compliance with all applicable laws and to investigating any credibly alleged violations.” He also referred The Crimson to a lawsuit brought in 2018 claiming the Law Review violated anti discrimination law in its selection of articles and members The Harvard Law Review did not immediately respond to a request for comment The Free Beacon’s Friday article quickly gained public attention — including from billionaire Trump ally Elon Musk, who reposted it on social media. On Friday evening, first-year students at HLS received a pair of emails apparently connected to the allegations in the article — one threatening a lawsuit the other encouraging applicants for the Law Review to pretend to identify as racial and sexual minorities to increase their odds of acceptance to the journal The sender of the emails claimed to represent the organization — Faculty & Students Opposed to Racial Preferences — that sued the Law Review in 2018 Harvard Law School Dean of Students Stephen L Ball condemned the emails as “disturbing” and “hateful” in a Saturday email to the HLS student body —Staff writer Hugo C. There have been rumors that GTA 6 might carry a previously unheard-of price point of $100 One analyst believes this will be justified by offering buyers a huge amount of in-game cash for the online element of the game it will hopefully be limited to some kind of special edition Take-Two's stock price dropped 8 percent in premarket trading on the NASDAQ following news of GTA 6's delay TechSpot is a registered trademark and may not be used by third parties without express written permission TechSpot is represented by Future PLC. As one of the resident Olds around these parts, I don't love video game delays since I remember when Duke Nukem was the hottest game on the planet back in the day and its sequel Duke Nukem Forever was announced then delayed then delayed again then delayed indefinitely before it came out with little fanfare in 2011 as an absolute dud. You know shit is bad when the Guinness Book Of World Records is chirping you. Until then, we'll just have to watch this trailer on loop and patiently wait for it like I've waited for Dr. Dre to release Detox forever (Don't you dare tell me Compton was Detox renamed because I refuse to believe Dre would actually drop a dud like that for the most anticipated album in rap). HHS will be collecting information and conducting interviews with community members over the coming weeks Follow The Herald’s latest coverage on how the Trump administration is impacting Brown here. The University is currently under investigation by the U.S Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights regarding Brown’s compliance with Title VI according to a Thursday night email from Executive Vice President for Planning and Policy Russell Carey ’91 and Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Matthew Guterl Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of protected classes The HHS originally launched an investigation in February into the Warren Alpert Medical School over Brown’s response to May 2024 pro-Palestine commencement protests which they claimed saw antisemitic incidents The inquiry has now been expanded to include the entire University and the time period from Oct The investigation was launched in accordance with Trump’s executive order to “combat antisemitism,” which explicitly referenced university campuses “We are confident that our actions in response to the May 2024 protest — which occurred outside the church where the medical school ceremony was held and on an adjacent public sidewalk — were in compliance with Title VI,” the Thursday email reads.  This latest move comes as the Trump administration plans to freeze $510 million in federal funding to Brown citing alleged antisemitism on campus and diversity An HHS spokesperson previously told The Herald that the agency “is partnering with other federal agencies to conduct a comprehensive review of grants awarded to universities that have failed to protect students from discriminatory behavior.” “HHS strongly condemns antisemitic harassment against Jewish students on college campuses,” they added “The University continues to act in good faith as a partner against antisemitism for which we are grateful,” Daniel Solomon ‘26 chair of the  Student Organizing Committee on Antisemitism “The administration has acknowledged that antisemitism persists on Brown’s campus and has been proactively working to combat it.” In a faculty town hall on Tuesday, President Christina Paxson P’19 P’MD’20 criticized Columbia’s compliance with the Trump administration’s requests following a $400 million funding cut.  University officials highlighted their commitment to academic freedom and abiding to the law but 10 attendees said administrators were vague about whether or not Brown would comply with potential federal demands Paxson articulated the University’s commitment to protecting academic freedom and the “spirit of free inquiry” in a March 20 letter to the campus community If the University faced actions that hindered its academic and operational capabilities Brown “would be compelled to vigorously exercise our legal rights to defend these freedoms,” In response to questions about the NIH grant cuts an HHS spokesperson wrote to The Herald that they “will not tolerate taxpayer-funded institutions that fail to uphold their duty to safeguard students from harassment.” But funding threats are not the only federal action that has rocked Brown’s campus in recent days Over the past week, at least one Brown student and a “small number” of recent graduates have had their visas revoked according to an email Thursday afternoon from the Office of International Student and Scholar Services The University did not receive direct communication from relevant federal agencies about these revocations and did not share additional information about the rationale of the cancellations.  titled “Defend Academic Freedom at Brown University,” has recently been circulated among students with the signatories saying they stand with the University “against the Trump administration’s unprecedented and politically motivated attacks on institutions of higher education in the United States.”  which was sent in similar iterations to the other seven Ivy League universities requested that Brown provide documents relating to financial aid and pricing practices University Spokesperson Brian Clark did not specify whether the University would produce the documents requested by the letter when asked by The Herald Elise Haulund is a science & research editor and sophomore from Redondo Beach she has a passion for exploring the intersection between STEM and the humanities Sophia Wotman is a University news editor covering activism and affinity & identity New York concentrating in Political Science with a focus on women’s rights and often performs on campus and around Providence.
