the &lsquo;kindergarten cerkvenjak&rsquo; in a wooded peaceful village slovenia
the design originated from the desire to create a structure that would maximize the learning experience for the children
aesthetically playful with an irregular footprint and a sawtooth section
bright orange walls and contorted windows and columns
the building is arranged with wings that stretch out onto the site creating small courtyards and classrooms that open up to exterior play areas
full glass walls provide constant natural light and views towards the surrounding trees which are represented in the project by the thick timber posts that hold up the overhanging roofs sheltering the outdoor spaces immediately outside of the various halls
a central hallway of bright colors and further allusions to the angled elements within and around the structure connect all the classes
