The monthly PS Store charts for April 2025 are here
and Microsoft's doing very well for itself on Sony's current-gen console
North America's top-selling title is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, followed by the ever-popular Minecraft in second, and then Forza Horizon 5 completes the podium
It's the same trio of titles taking up the top three slots in the European chart
with Forza leading the charge and Oblivion coming second
While Minecraft has been available everywhere for some time and Bethesda is publisher of its shadow-dropped remaster
all three games come under Microsoft's umbrella
The charts feature more Microsoft games, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 appearing in both top 10s, as well as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in Europe
Elsewhere, the well-received Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 manages fourth place in Europe and sixth in NA
which isn't bad at all for a relative unknown
Arcade racer looking like a massive hit on Sony's system
In the realm of PSVR2, the top three games in both territories are Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, Beat Saber, and Creed Rise to Glory: Championship Edition
On PS4, it's Red Dead Redemption 2 taking the top spot in both regions, and the free-to-play charts are dominated by Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Roblox
You can check out the full charts on the PS Blog

Guess that’s what happens when you create monopolies
Ive done my bit to help Forza get to the top of the European chart
I tried to convince myself that I was going to wait for a sale because I'd already played it (and loved it) when I had a Series X but I ended up caving in and bought it on Friday night
@Member_the_game Good man
Well they are technically three publishers so I'm not surprised plus we should get used to this since all their games will be coming to Playstation going forward
@PlatinumMikey You say that like Sony don't have an effective console monopoly themselves
but that's a different segment of the market
thats just kinda what happens when a publisher buys popular franchises
It’s not like these games weren’t coming to Playstation anyway
which was never on Playstation before and deservedly found a new audience on there
Judging by the responses to the article on Pure Xbox about the price rises
Xbox as a console looks like it's in its death throes anyway
You hate to see when enormous trillion dollar entities are awarded for monopolizing and monetizing a once beautiful environment free from war mongering behemoths
But tell that to a completely amoral society that are conditioned into self-preservation and competition
Give me a new and brilliant ES6 that teems the creativity of real people that worked in unison to fulfill the creative and technical vision of men and women who were appointed leadership by their peers and I will maybe bend the knee
@PlatinumMikey or
it's what happens when your platform has next to zero first party presence
@TicklefistCP there’s been plenty of exclusives mate are you blind do you really want me to list them you can’t rush perfection 😆
I'm fine with helping get Oblivion up there
It's been a lot more enjoyable than even I expected and my hopes were very high
happy to just see folks enjoying good games
@ButterySmooth30FPS also how you turn the annihilation of a brand into some kind of victory
Buying out developers and letting their ( what would have mostly been multi platform games anyway ) save you
People seem to think gamepass was created out of the goodness of Microsoft’s heart when really it was created due to desperation
Now they realise it’s unaffordable and have to resort to releasing their prized games on every other platform
@Lysterao how did Sony achieve that
Are there perhaps differences between providing something people want and cultivating a user base for 30 years..
and buying 2 of the biggest publishers in the world that own multiple franchises with huge followings
a bunch of third party publishers would still be selling these games on PS and PS wouldn't own a monopoly on publishing in any way
one company owns all these games being published and it is starting to clearly dominate the charts
They have bought their way to a monopoly in the span of a few years
and you can see why the deals were scrutinised
It wasn't as obvious when it was mostly kept to Game Pass
but these figures will be generating much interest from FTC types now that they are selling games everywhere
And filtering all gaming money to one company that has proven it sucks at managing a gaming division seems a little risky for the future of games 🤦♂️ if they f*** it up from here on out
PlayStation players can subsidize gamepass players
Works fine with me,already got my money’s worth of gamepass with ninja gaiden 2 black and these bangers this month
It’s not too long ago that people said „Xbox has no games“
Now they wait months for getting a PS5 exclusive (Yotei) while the sales are dominated by Xbox games
@Lysterao tbf PS tend to buy a studio after a decade of releasing third party exclusives on the platform
Not buying out studios that have essentially released multi platform games their entire existence
@PlatinumMikey I think "desperation" is a little unfair
There was a strong belief amongst many respected industry commentators that "Netflix" type services might have been the future
Microsoft believed that was the direction to go
but because they genuinely believed it was where the industry would be in a decade or so
It was a belief held across multiple boardrooms
so it was an industry wide belief and Sony have copied to a certain extent (albeit badly because the games aren't guarantee alternatives to purchases at launch)
If MS had done it right (I think Gamepass is a good idea but their studios bungled too many of the games)
Sony would have been in trouble and playing catchup
Ironically if Sony had gone all-in on it during the PS4 generation
when their studios actually delivered must-have titles
it would have been a success and vindicated those industry commentators and MS execs
The business strategy was to buy up disparate products
and bundle them up into a consolidated subscription as opposed to the fragmented a la carte market that existed before
@Max_the_German nobody is even talking about PlayStation exclusives anymore
All I see being discussed is multiplats and indie games nowadays
Yotei will sell significantly less than the original ghosts too
@Max_the_German Well
at that time Xbox didn’t have the same output as now
I’m sure you’ve heard about the largest acquisition in gaming where they bought two of the largest 3rd party publishers in the world
Everyone acts so surprised that Xbox has a large output now
its the effect of acquiring around 15 studios within a short period of time
@PlatinumMikey Mental gymnastics is how
They've changed from bitter elitists to weird swingers
Just think if Microsoft didn’t spend $80 billion all of these games would be in the exact same place on PlayStation charts except forza 5 which would still be a Xbox exclusive
@EfYI That sounded a bit like the Churchill speech i watched on the telly earlier about VE Day
@Fartingale exactly
@Shad361 Meanwhile they just announced today that Ghost of Yotei is topping the pre order charts in the US
@Cornpop76 I don’t agree with any of that sorry
@Max_the_German yeah
so the argument doesn't hold any water because a) that was before the acquisitions of several studios as well as the biggest publisher of many top selling franchises b) they also released older games
If Sony were to release all the first party games they have since ps2 on xbox
@LogicStrikesAgain that doesn't mean anything for long term sales and there's nothing else to pre order besides madden and doom(another w for gamepass) lol
I've said it before and was crucified
but I guess Xbox will be the nº 1 publisher in PS5 this year
Is this a surprise after they bought up half the gaming industry
@PlatinumMikey True
though they had the luxury of doing so due to the domination of the PS2 era
the way they bought psygnosis back during the PS1 gen for example
they were all but unchallenged until the Xbox 360
2018 MS didnt have the same option of playing things slowly
a fair few of Xbox's acquisitions were based off of longer histories
just not all as exclusive based as Sony ones
Defending or hating on a corporation depending on your console of choice is hilarious

The company in a court filing on March 7 told Gonzalez Rogers it undertook "extensive efforts" to comply with the injunction "while preserving the fundamental features of Apple’s business model and safeguarding consumers."Gonzalez Rogers suggested at an earlier hearing that changes made by Apple to its App Store had no purpose “other than to stifle competition.”In Wednesday's ruling
Gonzalez Rogers said Apple is immediately barred from impeding developers’ ability to communicate with users

Epic Games’ stunning victory blocks Apple from imposing fees on purchases made outside the App Store
by Sarah Jeong
In 2021, the Epic v. Apple lawsuit resulted in a court order enjoining Apple from anti-steering activities — that is, hindering developers from telling users to make purchases outside of the app. The case was revived last year when Epic Games alleged that Apple had violated that court order.
Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers not only agreed with Epic Games but also found that Apple’s Vice President of Finance, Alex Roman, had lied under oath and referred the matter to the district’s federal prosecutor for potential criminal investigation. The judge additionally sanctioned Apple for “misuse of attorney-client privilege designations to delay proceedings.”

How are tariffs – and the threat of higher tariffs – going to affect grocery prices in the United States
The United States produces and manufactures a lot of its food domestically
prices are going to go up," said David Ortega
a food economist and professor at Michigan State University
"They may not skyrocket for all imported products
While higher tariffs could still be coming after a 90-day-pause
plus higher duties on Chinese products already in effect are a big increase in food costs for American's budgets
director of food policy at The Consumer Federation of America
"The 10% 'default' tariffs alone represent a truly historic federal tax increase
with a highly regressive impact," Gremillion said
Tariffs imposed at the borderThe tariff only applies to the value of the product at the border
Then there are additional costs to the product
Those things are not subject to the tariff
So that doesn't mean that the price of a particular product will go up by 10% or whatever the tariff is
according to the Consumer Federation of America
Tariffs are causing uncertainty from families checking off their grocery lists to companies importing food
this can mean added difficulties in managing a food budget
this means havoc on supply chains that could lead to more food waste and more food safety risk," Gremillion said
One category that could be especially hit is seafood
It remains to be seen how that will be tariffed
especially with the trade war going on with China
"A lot of seafood is caught here and then taken to China
where the labor is much more available and is a lower price to debone
frozen and brought back to the United States," he said
tariffed coming out and then it will become uneconomical for everybody?" Swanson asked
"Consumers will feel these price hikes at the grocery store
especially for products where we rely on imports to meet year-round consumer demand,'' Ortega told USA TODAY
Shoppers' demand for fresh fruits twelve months a year is part of the reason why the United States imports many of them
"We rely on international trade and imports for agricultural products in order to meet year-round consumer demand for a lot of these items," Ortega said
The United States can't grow some of the products domestically
it’s cheaper to import food than to grow it domestically
though a small amount of coffee is grown in Hawaii
"we don't grow enough coffee domestically to be able to meet consumer demand," he said
"So those things that are facing 10% tariffs
you will see the price go up," Ortega said
He added that: "low-income households are affected the most
since they spend a higher portion of their disposable income on food."
Some retailers may still increase the price of a product
even if the product itself wasn't subject to a tariff
vice president and food insights lead for NielsenIQ
Manufacturers have something called "industry price gap management," which is the comparison of the price of their product versus their competitor
Even if you're a completely U.S.-based food product
"if all your competitors' prices are going up because they're affected by a tariff..
a food product may have been made in the United States
but the packaging or other ingredients to make the food may be imported
81% of consumers surveyed said they were somewhat familiar with the effect of tariffs on grocery prices and 73% believed the tariffs would impact the price of groceries
The survey was conducted when tariff discussion was only surrounding Canada and Mexico and before the reciprocal tariffs were announced
then paused and the hefty tariffs on China were implemented
especially as the tariff policies have changed
There is a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada
unless they are products covered under an agreement called the United States-Mexico-Canada-Agreement (USMCA) and a 10% baseline tariff on all imported goods from other countries
There is a 145% tariff on goods imported from China
including those coming from Mexico and China and covered under the USMCA agreement
But then the president backed off that decision
saying the USCMCA-covered goods would not be tariffed
there was a 90-day pause on any reciprocal tariffs beyond the 10%
Some agricultural and food products are covered under the USMCA
but it is difficult to distinguish which products are currently coming in with or without tariffs because there's an extra cost and hassle for importers to verify themselves under the USMCA
And many are having to wait and see what other tariffs might happen
"I think a lot of people just have no idea what is what is tariffed and what isn't tariffed," Costagli said
The United States grows and produces a lot of food products and is a huge net surplus producer
which means "we need to take that product out to the global markets
We just produce too much of it," said Michael Swanson
Chief Agricultural Economist at Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute
We export about 15% of our poultry overseas and about 20% of our pork overseas
that would have to stay in the domestic market and could actually depress prices," he said
"So we might actually see pork and poultry prices come down as the market has to sell it in America first before they can reduce the supply on an ongoing basis," he said
Consumers can try to save money by sticking to foods that are grown
produced or manufactured in the United States – and there's a lot of them
There will still be some things that they will have to pay more for
if there is no substitution or if they're not willing to trade for a different product
champagne from the Champagne region of France or Parmesan cheese that only comes from Parma
But there are growers of parmesan cheese in Wisconsin and that product is cheaper than the Parma
Consumers may consider other substitutions like trying bourbon from Kentucky instead of scotch from Scotland
which could increase in price due to tariffs
Study: Consumers worried about tariffs are pulling back on spending
Here are some food products that could see price increases
◾Bananas: nearly all bananas consumed in the United States are imported (from countries like Guatemala
◾Coffee: Outside of Hawaii and Puerto Rico
the United States does not grow much coffee
Tariffs would hit virtually the entire supply – we import coffee from Brazil
◾Olive oil: The vast majority of olive oil consumed in the United States is imported
but that is relatively negligible when you look at the full supply
offers these tips to save on food costs with potential tariff increases:
prices for chicken breasts and thighs may go up due to Chinese retaliatory tariffs on frozen chicken feet
which threaten to cut off a $1.1 billion source of revenue for U.S
spend an estimated $50 billion on placement and promotional fees to grocery chains
all with the intention of swaying your purchasing decisions
Wary of driving away customers with higher prices
many manufacturers have taken to shrinking package contents
“Healthy” foods include more than just fresh produce
also referred to as “private-label brands,” are often produced in the same manufacturing facilities
Sometimes sales can lure you into buying an item you don't need or paying a price that is too high
2025 7:14 PM EDTWith so many stories out there about stores closing their doors
it's refreshing to see that some are expanding and have big plans to grow over the next few years
Such is the case with one longtime grocery store chain
which is sharing its plans to grow and open hundreds of new stores over the next several years
The 2025 openings are part of a five-year growth schedule to add 800 stores by the end of 2028
As for the growth in 2025, the 225 stores that Aldi is opening this year will mark "the most stores Aldi will open in one year in its nearly 50-year U.S. history." The stores will open using a "combination of organic growth and converting select Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores to the Aldi format," according to a release
the chain opened roughly 120 stores in 2024
and making Aldi the third-largest grocery chain in the U.S
"Shoppers shouldn’t have to compromise on quality to save money, and at ALDI, they don't have to," Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi, said
"We've built our reputation on delivering real value without cutting corners
households and counting trusting our products and low prices
we're growing rapidly from coast-to-coast."

Scientists have developed a method for storing quantum information in a single dimension
Scientists have discovered how to use a quantum material to tap into the power of magnetism to store quantum information — thanks to its capacity to support magnetic switching (when the magnetic polarization switches direction). They say it can lead to more viable quantum computing and sensing
thanks to much longer-lasting quantum states
folded layers of pastry) thanks to its structure of just a few layers of atoms
Scientists consider it extremely promising for quantum devices because many of its properties can be used for any type of information storage
It can be used to store information using an electric charge
through magnetism (through the electronic spin) and even via phonons — like vibrations from sound. One of the many ways in which chromium sulfide bromide could be used to store information is through excitons — quasi-particles that form when an electron and its hole become bound together
When a photon is moved from its grounded energy state
it effectively leaves behind a hole where it once was
the photon and the hole remain paired together and become known as an exciton
Previous research has highlighted how these excitons can sometimes form in a straight line in the material
But these excitons also exhibit unusual magnetic properties
At temperatures less than 132 Kelvin (-222 degrees F or -141 degrees C)
the material's layers are magnetized and the electrons are aligned, while the direction of the magnetic field switches for each layer in the material
When chromium sulfide bromide is warmed to more than 132 K
the material loses its magnetization as the electrons can move in random directions
the excitons are no longer trapped and extend over multiple layers of the material
when chromium sulfide bromide is only a single atom thick
the excitons are confined to a single dimension
this restriction could allow quantum information in the excitons to be stored much longer than it would otherwise be
as the excitons are less likely to collide with each other and lose the information they carry through decoherence (the loss of quantum information due to interference)
scientists reported that they had produced excitons in chromium sulfide bromide by firing pulses of infrared light in 20 bursts lasting only 20 quadrillionths of a second (20 x 10-15)
They then used a second infrared laser to nudge the excitons into a higher energy state
before finding they had created two different variations of exciton when they should otherwise have had identical states of energy
Get the world’s most fascinating discoveries delivered straight to your inbox
When the less energetic pulses were shot by lasers from different axes
the researchers discovered that the direction-dependent excitons could be confined to a single line or expanded into three dimensions
The change from unidimensional; to three-dimensional excitons accounted for how long the excitons could last without colliding with each other
professor of experimental and applied physics at the University of Regensburg
—'Quantum memory breakthrough' may lead to a quantum internet
One of the key areas the research team wants to pursue next is to investigate whether these excitons could be converted to magnetic excitations in the electronic spin of the material
it could provide a useful method for converting quantum information between different subatomic particles (photons
Switching between magnetized and non-magnetized states could provide a fast method for converting photon and spin-based quantum information
The hope with chromium sulfide bromide is to harness all of its properties for use in future devices

Epic plans to bring the game back after a major court ruling
by Jay Peters
so it was unclear how Epic might bring the game back to the US App Store until Sweeney’s post
“We have conversed with Apple on the topic,” Sweeney said in an X post over the weekend. He noted that Epic created its Sweden account last year so it could launch the Epic Games Store and Fortnite in the EU. (That account was banned and reinstated in 2024 over another dispute.)

it's easy to see why so many people do get excited for new iPhones
Apple is known for staying on the cutting edge of tech
and the leaks about the upcoming iPhone 17 are no exception
including a new iPhone Air to replace the current iPhone Plus
and a rectangular "camera bar design" that could house larger camera modules
it is exciting to consider what might come our way this September
But while iPhone fans are waiting for this year's announcements
Apple is already planning the launch of the iPhone 18 for 2026
and its plan could spell problems for those worried about the high costs of upgrading
Apple CEO Tim Cook has some plans in store for next year's iPhones

iPhone 18's rollout will be very differentLongtime Apple fans know that the company typically makes an annual announcement about its new phone models in the second week of September
That said, the company is considering a new plan for 2026, according to new reporting from The Information sourced to "three people with knowledge of the matter."
Apple plans to release the iPhone 18 Pro first in 2026 and hold off on releasing the basic model
The report also says that Apple will test making its cheaper iPhone models in India
A foldable model of the iPhone may also come out in fall of 2026
Part of this new strategy is about Apple buying time
Since President Trump's tariffs announcement
many businesses that rely heavily on China for manufacturing have been worried about what the changes will mean for them.
Apple would be heavily impacted by these changes
as at the time Trump's administration announced them
China accounted for around 80% of Apple's production capacity
the phones were made by Apple partner Foxconn
On May 2 during the company's earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that Apple would be shifting the production of all its U.S
while it will turn to Vietnam for "almost all iPad
and AirPods products sold in the U.S."
While President Trump's administration announced on April 12 that his tariffs would exempt smartphones
and some other devices from reciprocal tariffs
major tech companies have continued to move manufacturing out of China
And that's not a new thing on the whole
because many were working on a China exit before the tariffs were announced
IBM was one of the companies to pull out of China in 2024 after 32 years
Microsoft also shuttered its Chinese operations with joint venture Wicresoft as of April 8
And Dell is yet another tech company that's been working on pulling away from China for years
announcing in 2023 that it would phase out Chinese-made chips by 2024
While Trump said in an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker that Chinese tariffs "will eventually be lowered," no specifics were offered as to when that might happen
"...Otherwise you could never do business with them,” Trump said in the interview
“They want to do business very much … their economy is collapsing.”

Apple today filed a notice of appeal with the U.S
in the hopes that the Cupertino company might be able to walk back changes that have required it to allow developers to add links to external payment methods to apps
Apple was handed a scathing order to immediately walk back all of its anti-steering policies in the United States
Apple was found to be in violation of a 2021 injunction that required it to let developers direct customers to third-party purchase options outside of apps
The order initially came from the Apple vs. Epic Games lawsuit that primarily went in Apple's favor. Apple was found not to have a monopoly and largely won the case, but part of the ruling forced Apple to change some of its App Store rules
but it only allowed developers a single link to an external website in apps
and Apple also collected a 12 to 27 percent fee from purchases made on a website through an app
The judge was not at all happy with how Apple decided to comply with the order, and in her ruling, she said that Apple picked the most anticompetitive option at every turn. As a result, she provided Apple with a detailed list of tweaks to make, and ordered Apple to implement them immediately
"Apple's continued attempts to interfere with competition will not be tolerated," read the order
Apple changed its App Store rules last Thursday
Apple cannot prevent developers from adding links or buttons that direct customers to make purchases outside of the App Store
nor can it dictate how those buttons or links look
Apple also can't collect any fees for purchases made using external links in apps
Apple said that it strongly disagrees with the decision
but Apple was not able to hold off on implementing the new rules during the appeals process
developers are able to direct customers to websites to make purchases as of now
Spotify, Patreon
and others have already submitted app updates with links to make purchases on the web
Except for confirming Apple's plan to appeal
so it's not yet clear what arguments Apple will present to try to convince the appeals court that the judge overseeing the case made a mistake
Apple will need to submit a brief with its legal argument
then Epic Games will have a chance to respond
after which Apple will be able to file a second brief
so we are looking at several more months before a final decision is made

Starbucks has opened a brand-new location built entirely with 3D printing in Brownsville
the new store is missing an essential element fans of the coffee company have come to rely on
The coffee retailer has created a new drive-thru location, from the ground up, manufactured completely via 3D imaging. The brand shared details of the build via an Instagram reel
The 3D standalone store features textured concrete walls. There are also shaded drive-thru lanes and a walk-up window.

the estimated cost for crafting the 3D building totaled $1,198,000

Make sure your cheese can breathe when you wrap it by avoiding plastic wrap
Don't ditch that half-eaten block of cheese
you can keep any variety of cheese fresh and delicious for days and even weeks
To keep cheese tasting as good as the day you bought it
These methods can starve cheese of the air it needs to breathe
and leave it tasting stale along with ruining the texture
If you want your cheese to taste as good as the day you first sliced it
it's time to store it like the pros do
"Cheese is a preserved product," Montez said. "It's high in acid and salt and has a lot of the water removed compared to milk. So it's rare that you would ever have to throw out a piece of cheese." Cheese, in other words, is built to last; ergo, an investment worth having.
here's what you need to know about cheese to understand its aging potential and how to best cut and store your fancy cheese so you never have to throw it away.
A little extra mold on your cheese should not deter you from hanging onto it
Just scrape it off with a knife and carry on.
Certain cheeses, like blue cheese, wear their mold more proudly than others, but it may be helpful to think of cheese as the controlled decay of milk and know that there's pretty much always mold involved regardless. The snowy-white rind of brie and other bloomy-rind cheeses are a type of mold
as is the mottled outer surface of a firmer cheese like Gruyere
you already inherently understand that not all microbes are bad
Read more: There's a Lot of Fake Parmesan Cheese Out There. Here's How to Tell
Cut your cheese so it's easier to wrap Precise cuts that leave flat surfaces make it easier to wrap your cheese so it doesn't spoil.
How you store your cheese is going to have the biggest impact on its longevity -- but how
when and what you cut it with can also play a part in its ongoing flavor and texture success
Precise cuts that leave flat surfaces make it easier to wrap in the most effective manner
and keeping the cheese whole for as long as possible is also helpful to its longevity.
"Minimizing the surface area (exposed to air) is going to prevent cheese from drying out or getting moldy," says Montez
if you're going to prep cheese ahead of time for a party
the longer you can leave it as a whole piece
the better," or if you're a habitual meal-prepper
resist the urge to cut up a whole chunk of cheese for easier access
These are really good for leaving as much of the rind intact on bloomy rind and other soft cheeses as you can."
There is specialty cheese paper you can buy
but butcher or parchment paper will work just as well.
One of the two main goals when wrapping and storing cheese is to allow a little bit of airflow so that your fancy cheese can still breathe
"The main idea here is you don't want to wrap it in plastic," says Montez
"There are a lot of active microorganisms in cheese and you want to keep them alive by the time you're going to eat it."
was the wedge of precut cheese you bought from the grocer or cheese store wrapped in plastic
"It's mostly for display purposes," says Montez
since you're not likely to buy what you can't see
"There are cheese shops where they exclusively wrap in paper
If you're a big shop that moves a lot of product
it's not a problem if you know if the cheese is wrapped in plastic for a couple of days
butcher paper or whatever you have is good."
Formaticum makes excellent cheese storage bags and wrapping paper
Cheese you intend to consume within a couple of days doesn't necessarily even need refrigeration
And real Parmigiano Reggiano never needs to see the inside of your fridge.
"What you're really trying to accomplish when you store cheese is keeping the cold air from the refrigerator from blowing on it, because that's going to cause it to dry out more quickly," says Montez. Wrapped cheeses should either go into a drawer within your fridge
into a corner where the fan doesn't entirely reach
or even in a small container with the lid cracked to keep air circulation available
Cheese is a living organism -- wrapping it up in plastic kills those good microorganisms you want to keep propagating before you eat your wedge. Instead, package your cheese so that it has some airflow.
Not at all. You can scrape the mold off the top layer, and the rest of the cheese is perfectly safe for consumption. Cheese is a living organism, and it's an ecosystem composed of many microbes. It's normal for mold to grow on the surface from time to time.

A new lawsuit by app developer Pure Sweat Basketball and on behalf of as many as 100,000 other developers was filed on Friday against iPhone maker Apple
The lawsuit claims that Apple needs to return hundreds of millions of dollars to devs who say they ended up paying higher commissions to Apple over the last year
in defiance of a court order to allow app developers to use their own processing solutions in preference to Apple's payment system
"It appears as though Apple has been caught red-handed blatantly seeking to undercut the law," said Steve Berman, managing partner of the legal firm Hagens Berman, which is representing Pure Sweat, in a statement
"We believe app developers deserve a fair market to promote and sell their products
and the world's largest corporation doesn't get to bully them out of this billion-dollar revenue stream."
Apple charges app developers fees of up to 30% per transaction to use its payment systems
which is the only system developers have been allowed to use
A previous lawsuit resulted in a ruling by US District Judge Yvonne Gonzales Rogers
which said that Apple wilfully violated her injunction in the case against Apple by Epic Games
ending up charging developers a new 27% fee when they use a third-party system
Apple has denied violating the ruling and filed a notice of appeal on Monday
"Apple's scheme worked as planned," says the lawsuit
"Although the injunction has been in 'effect' for over 15 months
Apple has been able to identify only 34 developers who have even applied to offer linked-out payments through their apps
This represents an infinitesimal 0.025% of the 136,000 developers who offer apps through the App Store."
This isn't the only lawsuit Hagens Berman is handling against the tech giant, either, as it also represents consumers accusing Apple of monopolizing the smartphone market

If you've dined at Texas Roadhouse, whether you got your favorite juicy steak or fall-off-the-bone ribs, you know what comes first: a platter of unreasonably delicious fresh, steaming rolls served with a delectable honey cinnamon butter
you can get your hands on the restaurant's retail version of the tasty condiment
has started selling its own version of the cinnamon honey butter too
If you're wondering how the two measure up to expectations — and to one another — we've tried both the Texas Roadhouse and bettergoods versions to compare taste
After all this taste testing and toast testing
Read on to find out which of these two sweet-and-salty spreads really blew us away
It's important to keep in mind the language used on this item's packaging
The Texas Roadhouse whipped buttery spread is just that — a spread
it allows for much easier spreading and a softer more malleable texture
This made it easier to scoop out of the container
and I had no problem spreading it on toast as well
The flavor of this spread certainly maintained that buttery saltiness
both the sweetness from the honey and the touch of warmth cinnamon usually provides were mild and rather underwhelming
and the flecks of cinnamon were not overly abundant
Except for the whipped texture and marks from the spread being piped into the container
This spread had a bit of a greasy aftertaste that lingered on the tongue in an oily
but it was certainly noticeable and somewhat unpleasant
If I had gone into this purchase expecting the same rich
sweet flavors of the in-restaurant condiment
it was the easier of the two to spread on toast
with a far smoother texture compared to the bettergoods version
The bettergoods cinnamon honey butter was a flavor explosion
The real butter base was the tiniest bit salty and didn't lose any of its classic buttery richness to the sweeter ingredients
but I only noticed that when I was trying the butter on its own
any texture from the plentiful cinnamon was completely enveloped by the toasted bread
This butter was sweet and creamy. The honey, molasses, and cinnamon really shine, and each bite is balanced. When I spread it on toast I was really reminded of those beloved classic cinnamon-and-sugar toasts I made as a kid
This spread was definitely more of a tan color from all of the cinnamon and the touch of molasses included in the recipe
and you could certainly see the abundant flecks of cinnamon in the mixture
There was no aftertaste that lingered more than one would expect
and certainly no film left behind in the mouth
An interesting perk of this butter was the way the flavor developed as it melted
from the cool rich butter to the warm and sweet cinnamon honey flavors
but the shallow shape of the container allowed for layers to be shaved off the top for easy melting and minimal damage to the toast
Both the bettergoods and Texas Roadhouse spreads are available at most Walmart locations across the country
and the prices remain the same regardless of whether they are being sold in New York City or Iowa City
There is a note on the website that the listed price is specifically for online purchase (pickup or delivery)
so in-store prices could be subject to a bit of variation
Be sure to check on the Walmart website (and add your zip code to check availability at your specific location) before heading there
as availability is not guaranteed across the board
the Texas Roadhouse option was $3.48 for 7.35 ounces
while the bettergoods butter is $2.56 for 3.7 ounces
This makes the Texas Roadhouse spread about $0.47 per ounce and the bettergoods about $0.69 per ounce
The Texas Roadhouse may be cheaper per ounce
For a backyard barbecue or family dinner where you expect to really be moving through the buttery spread
the Texas Roadhouse could be the better option
for general use the bettergoods butter is simply better
so I wasn't expecting either to be very calorie friendly
to discover that not only is the Texas Roadhouse buttery spread 70% vegetable oil
This version is loaded with oils like palm and soybean
as well as preservatives like potassium sorbate and calcium disodium EDTA
plus artificial colors and vague references to natural flavors
From an item that has the expected ingredients in the title
I was disappointed to flip the package and read this list
The bettergoods butter is simply that: butter mixed with confectioners' sugar
This brief list of real food ingredients had me breathing a sigh of relief that not all grocery store food items are laden with chemicals and preservatives to extend their shelf life toward immortality and draw them further away from actual foods we recognize
This simplicity showed in the taste and texture
for better (as far as taste) and for worse (as far as the slight graininess)
Both spreads have 60 calories per tablespoon
while the Texas Roadhouse has 8 grams of fat per serving and the bettergoods has 4.5 grams
Texas Roadhouse's butter has more sodium and less carbs than bettergoods'
I am 100% recommending the bettergoods cinnamon honey butter over the Texas Roadhouse spread
the bettergoods option is more expensive per ounce
but for countless completely justified and valid reasons
And unless your main and only goal is to maximize quantity of spread over quality of taste or ingredients
I don't see a reason to even purchase the Texas Roadhouse version
This is not only because of the overall lack of flavor or the weird filmy aftertaste
even if it had measured up to bettergoods in those categories
the fact that it's 0% butter is super irksome and will always land it in last place
I started by trying a small portion of the bettergoods butter
I tried each of them straight-up and took notes on the taste
as well as the relative texture versus overall smoothness
and whether there were any aftertastes/developments in the flavor after melting
I also tried each one on half of a piece of toast to see if the quality
or overall experience was altered in a more natural eating context
I didn't even end up finishing the toast with the Texas Roadhouse spread
knowing that it was primarily vegetable oil was a big turn-off

National Institute on Drug AbuseHARRISBURG — Democrats in the Pennsylvania House have advanced a bill that would permit the sale of recreational cannabis to adults at state-run stores
an untested model that could face legal challenges
Supporters say selling cannabis through stores similar to Pennsylvania’s Fine Wine & Good Spirits shops
would allow the state to collect more revenue to fund social equity projects
They also say this model would prevent existing multistate operators from monopolizing the legal cannabis market and excluding small businesses
and would better protect public health through tight regulation
Cannabis industry players are concerned about the practicality of such a system
They say the state already has a solid regulatory framework around medical cannabis
and using a state-store model would result in unnecessary complications
Critics also say such a system could potentially lead to criminal liability
since state employees at these stores would be breaking federal law by selling cannabis
The bill
was approved 14-12 by the chamber’s Health Committee on Monday
with some GOP members objecting to the limited amount of time they had to review a nearly 200-page bill
The legislation’s language was introduced on Sunday
for holding several hearings on cannabis legalization last session
But she expressed disappointment that Democrats would rush through a bill on such an important topic
A GOP-led effort to table the bill until a hearing could be held on its merits failed along party lines
It’s important for lawmakers to weigh cannabis legalization as the June 30 budget deadline approaches, Krajewski told Spotlight PA before the vote, as hundreds of millions of dollars in potential revenue could go toward mass transit and other funding needs
“It should be a priority for budget negotiations,” Krajewski said
The full state House is expected to vote on the legislation on Wednesday
it will be sent to the Republican-controlled state Senate for consideration
who supports legalizing recreational cannabis through medical dispensaries
doesn’t think there are enough votes in the upper chamber to get the state store model to Democratic Gov
“I think that the Senate will make changes,” Street told Spotlight PA
this could end up being a vehicle that ends the prohibition on cannabis and gets an adult-use bill to the governor's desk.”
Frankel said he hopes the GOP-controlled state Senate “will engage with us and have a discussion.” He told Spotlight PA the bill embodies the values of his committee and addresses his major concerns surrounding public health
and we laid it out there the way we think it ought to be best addressed,” he said
State Senate Republicans in key positions either do not support legalizing cannabis or have expressed serious reservations
one former GOP lawmaker previously told Spotlight PA that he doesn’t think the opposition is “hardcore.” In his opinion
the “lynchpin” of where they will fall on the issue “is going to be economics.”
While there’s more support for legalization among Democrats
Like Street, state Rep. Emily Kinkead (D., Allegheny) supports legalizing adult-use cannabis within the state’s existing framework. She’s seeking support for a bill that would regulate medical and recreational cannabis sellers under an independent board that would be appointed by the legislature and governor
Kinkead said medical operators would not be able to open new locations but could expand into recreational sales at existing locations
Most of the new licenses to sell or grow cannabis
would go to social equity applicants — those who were most impacted by the war on drugs
The revenue from sales and licensing would go toward grants for community development and agricultural innovation
funding for public defenders and law enforcement
Kinkead says her goal is to “have a conversation about all the ways we can do this.” She worries that if lawmakers embrace state stores
they would be “opening up a can of worms that nobody else has ever experienced before.”
“Every state that has legalized to this point has done it through private industry
so we wouldn’t be getting into a completely new model and running into completely new pitfalls,” Kinkead told Spotlight PA
“We can learn from other states about what worked and what didn’t to ensure that we’re doing this the right way.”
Kinkead’s legislation has a Republican co-sponsor — state Rep
Meredith Buettner, executive director of Pennsylvania Cannabis Coalition, a trade organization representing medical cannabis permit holders, said she was “disappointed to not see robust inclusion of the existing market in the bill.” Her group and other pro-cannabis interests spent $1.6 million in 2024 to lobby lawmakers
she sees the bill’s passage as a step in the right direction
“We'll see as the process moves forward,” Buettner told Spotlight PA
“I think the Senate has been pretty clear that they're not interested in doing a state store bill.”
Frankel and Krajewski’s bill would create an unspecified number of licenses for entrepreneurs to grow and cultivate cannabis and to allow for small-scale on-site consumption at locations like coffee shops and lounges
would go to “social and economic equity” applicants
including individuals who have a cannabis arrest or conviction
and people who live in communities harmed by cannabis criminalization
The bill would also create a grant and loan program for these applicants and licensees
Cherron Perry-Thomas is the director of social impact for the Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities
a nonprofit that helps Black communities gain access to the cannabis industry
She said the bill does not “center folks who have been impacted” or local entrepreneurs who could benefit from the emerging industry
We grant elected officials extraordinary power when we give them our vote
which means we must demand extraordinary accountability once they are in office

Rep. Eugene Vindman, D-Va.-7th District, spent $38,783 via two March campaign donations to a Miami-area bookstore that hosted his brother’s book promotion efforts, labeling the expenditures a “fundraising expense,” according to campaign finance data from the Federal Election Commission
the Vindman campaign initiated two payments to the Coral Gables location of Books and Books on March 7 and 20 – worth $7,809.55 and $30,972.97
a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a key whistleblower in President Trump’s first impeachment
“The Folly of Realism,” at the store’s Coral Gables location on March 9
The book criticizes Western policy toward Russian expansionism and lends insight into the containment thereof
The book was released Feb. 25 at a market price of $30 and briefly appeared on the New York Times’ hardcover nonfiction bestseller list for the week ending March 16. The list typically requires a minimum of 5,000 copies sold per week, according to Novlr
a writing and publishing advisory platform
Alexander Vindman posted images of himself at the Coral Gables store on X twice
saying he had signed an additional 800 copies on the latter date
The New York Post first reported the campaign expenditures and corresponding bookstore events
A spokeswoman for Vindman declined InsideNoVa’s request for comment on this story
The National Republican Congressional Committee ripped the campaign expenditure
calling it an effort to “prop up Alexander Vindman’s book.”
“Eugene Vindman is a grifter,” committee spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole said in the statement
“ … and is now refusing to apologize to Virginians and the donors he swindled.”
Vindman won Virginia’s 7th Congressional District seat last November with 51.2% of the vote
defeating Republican Derrick Anderson and laying claim to Rep
