the Municipality of Tržič reaffirms its commitment to local development and support for entrepreneurship
businesses and local community will be key for the long-term success of both the incubator and the entire community,'' underlined the Minister in his speech
thanking everyone for their contribution to launching the incubator
The co-financing for the incubator comes from the Programme for Border Problem Areas
The programme targets border municipalities that face various challenges
Minister Jevšek expressed hope that ‘’young people looking for an opportunity to grow
turn their idea into a reality or get a job will see this incubator as a unique opportunity enabling them to stay in the local environment and contribute to the development of local community and region by tapping into their talent and knowledge’’
He also outlined the types of support provided for the development of Slovenia’s economy
including support for increasing the competitiveness of Slovenian regions
support for the transition from coal to a low-carbon society
and support for tackling depopulation in shrinking regions
‘’As part of the calls for proposals for border problem areas in 2023 and 2024
we supported altogether eight incubators and awarded nearly 11 million euros in grants
we expect the incubators to be financed under the instrument agreement for the development of region
with the available EU funding that combines EU contribution and national co-financing standing at around 30 million euros,’’ the Minister said

the city of Tržič in the Slovenian Alps launched a town-wide parking guidance system using Parquery's camera-based smart parking solution
This makes Tržič the first city in Slovenia to fully implement a parking guidance system based on computer vision technology and Artificial Intelligence. To accommodate the Alpine region's harsh winters, Telekom Slovenije was searching for a solution for the town that performs reliably in all seasons
and cannot be damaged by snow plows or sweepers
Together with system integrator aKoda+
they found the optimal partner in Parquery
a smart parking solution that upgrades any camera with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and turns them into a multi-spot parking sensor
Axis cameras monitor parking areas across the town and send images to Telekom Slovenije’s cloud server
Parquery’s software then analyzes each image
determines the occupancy status of each parking spot
and sends live numbers of vacant spots in each area to digital display on-site panels that notify and direct drivers
Akoda+ ensured seamless integration.
The parking areas are distributed across the town and are both large off-street parking lots and curbside parking
Due to the use of Axis’ multi-sensor and 180° cameras
the number of camera mounting locations could be cut to a minimum
as could be the total cost of deployment.
The project was rolled out in three phases and will incorporate additional parking areas into the city-wide guidance system in the coming months
The successful trio of aKoda+ as the system integrator
Telekom Slovenije has formed a strong and fruitful partnership for smart city solutions on parking
They have already deployed smart parking solutions in two additional cities in Slovenia.

2018·Snowboard AlpineZan Kosir did his first turns on a snowboard when he was 12 years old
right at the local hill of his home town Trzic after he had seen some kids riding during a family holiday stay in Val Gardena
Impressed by the freedom on snow only a board can offer
he started to ride more and more which finally opened the door to competitive racing
He attended a race in Slovenia powered by Swatch and won straight away
was missing a snowboard club he joined the one in Bled
where he met some of the best riders of Slovenia
on of the most decorated alpine snowboarders of Slovenia of all time and no relative to Zan took him to a training session in Kranjska Gora
The direct comparison with one of the world's best and the fact that he was close in skills made him believe to be successful on international level
he competed in his first ever World Cup (Maribor 2003)
it took him quite a while to place on the podium for the first time finishing third in the PSL staged in Arosa
Although he was able to add another third rank to his belt one year later at Kreischberg
Austria Kosir had to stay patient and work on his skills
Kosir had his breakthrough in the 2013 season with a full set of medals as third and first of the Bad Gastein events (his so far sole victory) and a second rank in Rogla
PSL and PGS - a fact which he underlined by placing second three times in the 2014 (Carezza
he won Bronze (PGS) and Silver (PSL) at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games becoming the first ever Slovenian to win an Olympic medal in a snowboard event
And unlike some of the riders who podiumed at the Sochi Olympics
Kosir kept the momentum into the next season
earning another silver at the Kreischberg world championships (PGS)

The camp was founded during World War II due to the construction of the tunnel to improve the German army's transport routes to Yugoslavia
Approximately 2,000 political prisoners from 13 European nations worked there for 23 months under the supervision of guards in extremely difficult conditions
a ceremony was also held on the north side of the camp in Austria
Ambassadors from various countries attended the ceremony and among the distinguished guests was also the President of the National Assembly Mrs Urška Klakočar Zupančič
The delegations laid wreaths at the memorial to the victims
Speakers emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and the pursuit of peace
as well as the importance of solidarity and cooperation
Ambassador Chmiel also recalled the extermination of Lidice on the same day
another violent historical event in which the Central Bohemian village of Lidice was destroyed and a large part of its inhabitants murdered by the German Nazi occupiers
The celebration at the site of the only concentration camp in Slovenia is organised annually by the town of Tržič
The Union of the Associations for the Values of the National Liberation Movement of Slovenia and the Associations of the National Liberation Movement Tržič
where there is a monument commemorating the Czech pharmacist
who lived in Tržič for years and was murdered by the Germans in 1942
He was famous for producing medicines from natural ingredients
His hobbies included collecting old pharmaceutical and medical objects and as a result
he created an extensive and valuable pharmaceutical-medical collection
The collection was declared as the cultural monument of national importance by the Slovenian government in 2002

the Borns were among the most influential families in Slovenia
In the political turmoil of the 20th century
only to get a second chance with the advent of democracy
was already familiar with the Slovenian countryside -- he frequently hunted in the vast forests under the Alps
he received a request that was to change his life: He was asked to move to the town of Tržič in order to help bail out the struggling Carniolan Industrial Company
one of the largest corporations in what is now Slovenia
but he also ended up purchasing a large share of its extensive landholdings
He ultimately became the owner almost a third of all woodlands around Tržič
He took good care of his employees and was well-liked in return
His stewardship of the land was far ahead of its time
Even though he routinely invited Europe’s leading industrialists to hunt in his forests
and he even reintroduced the Alpine ibex to the Slovenia woods
known as Jelendol (or Puterhof at the time)
He constructed a hydroelectric plant in the valley
as well as a modern road that opened up the formerly inaccessible valley
he helped the Austro-Hungarian authorities with the construction of the Southern Railway
which connected Vienna with the port city of Trieste
Julius Born died in 1897 during a business trip to the United Kingdom
the management of the Born estate temporarily passed to legal guardians
and the estate quickly found itself in financial difficulties
The situation only improved after Julius’ children finally took over the estate themselves
The Born children continued the work that their father had started
and they soon constructed a wood processing facility in Jelendol
Karl ended up buying most of the property from his siblings
and built a railroad that greatly speeded up the transport of wood into the valley
who discovered that the Borns were partly of Jewish descent
Friderik was sent to a concentration camp because of his anti-Nazi views and lost his life there
Partisan guerillas destroyed much of the Jelendol estate
but the post-war Communist government in Yugoslavia was almost as hostile as the Nazis had been
and it permanently nationalized the family’s holdings
The Jelendol mansion was turned into low-income housing
With the advent of democracy and Slovenia’s independence
fortunes once again changed for the Born descendants
As part of Slovenia’s denationalization program
the forests originally purchased by Julius Born were returned to the surviving members of the Born family -- Karl Born’s daughters
they now frequently visit their property and are even encouraging their children to learn the Slovenian language
The Born family may once again become one of the leading names in the Tržič area
well over a century after Julius Born was summoned there to save a struggling company
