10 (UPI) -- A town in Slovenia announced it is moving forward with plans to build a nearly $400,000 fountain that dispenses drinkable local beers
The fountain, which is estimated to cost nearly $400,000 to construct, would call on users to pay $6.75 to dispense 10 ounces of beer in a commemorative mug. The fountain would include a variety of beers brewed in the region, which is famed for its hops -- known locally as "green gold."
Officials said the fountain's construction will be half funded by the local council and the other half will be provided by commercial partners and public donations
Councilors opposing the plan said the money could be better spent on other projects
including improving the local water supply
"It's true the fountain won't be cheap," Zalec Mayor Janko Kos told the Dnevnik news website

is planning to build a fountain that spurts out drinkable beer
The fountain will dispense a variety of local beers
with visitors invited to pay six euros for three 300ml drinks served in a commemorative mug
Costing an estimated €350,000 ($A547,046) to build
local councillors hope the fountain will become a popular attraction and increase tourism in the region
Half of the funds are to be contributed by the local council
with the rest provided by commercial partners and public donations
The plans are not univerally popular; at an extraordinary council session last week a third of delegates voted against the fountain
with opponents voicing objections to its proposed site
and the fact that the required funds could be better used elsewhere - such as in improving the state of water supply to local villages
although it does not yet have a completion date
