Home » Lockheed Martin Testing Extended Range Increment One Precision Strike Missiles
A missile test performed at Vandenburg Space Force Base
California last month was the first test of an extended range variant of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) looking to hit targets beyond the 499+ kilometer threshold of the baseline missile variant
Lockheed Martin confirmed the details to Naval News in an interview at Modern Day Marine 2025 in Washington D.C
during an interview regarding PRsM and updates to the M142 HIMARS
“Our recent demonstration at Vandenberg Space Force Base tested extended range of the baseline Increment One missile
Lockheed Martin’s Director for of Strategy and Business Development
Army-led SINKEX during Exercise Valiant Shield 2024 that featured the first U.S
Army use of an anti-ship ballistic missile
Army’s 3rd Multi-Domain Task Force (3MDTF) and the 1-181 Artillery Regiment of the Tennessee National Guard
who fired two Precision Strike Missiles from the U.S
Army’s prototype Autonomous Multi-domain Launcher (AML)
The ship targeted in the SINKEX was ex-USS Cleveland (LPD-7)
the missiles used in the SINKEX during Valiant Shield 2024 were baseline Increment One Precision Strike Missiles
Withrow could not confirm or deny the ability of Increment One to prosecute maritime targets
but could confirm the initial all-up-round testing timeline for Increment Two
I don’t know if it’s against a moving target
but our first test [for Increment Two] is in 2026.”
Further developments beyond Increment One and Two are also expected
are under development within the wider PrSM and Long Range Fires programs for a wide range of new capabilities
Increment One has been delivered and those missiles have an unspecified level of capability against maritime targets which Lockheed Martin could not expand on
Increments 2 and 4 will also have anti-ship capability
Increment 3 and 5 will feature new warheads and guided submunitions
“Increment One is the baseline surface to surface missile with a range beyond 400 kilometers
Increment two adds a seeker to go after maritime [targets]
Increment three is a lethality enhancement
[adding] a new warhead to the missile to go after a different type of target
Increment four is the extended range version
and it also will have a seeker to go after maritime targets.”
PrSM recently completed a Production Qualification Test (PQT) Series
opening the door for the missile’s final phase of development
Initial Operational Testing and Evaluation (IOT&E) is expected in May 2025
with a Full Rate Production (FRP) decision later this year

TOWN OF RUTLAND – Long before the first of his 1,143 NASCAR races
a teenage dirt-tracker from Arkansas came to the Upper Midwest to learn to race stock cars
won three championships and then came back for one more before his NASCAR career took off
After thousands of autographs and conversations
he stopped for a couple of quick questions from reporters
Question: You seem to be doing more of these appearances
Is there a plan behind this or is it just the way things are coming together
and my heart's really with the Wisconsin race fans and the Wisconsin racing culture
and I'll be coming up next year and the year after
It's just this is the foundation of my career
I bet you haven’t seen some of these people in 40 years
but I also just really want to give back to the racing family and culture and the racers and the fans and all that that really had a big hand in shaping my career
You've become really active and opinionated on social media
Is this a new Mark Martin or a new phase for you
I just started to get tired of the Kool Aid drinkers
I'm not beholden to anyone and most everybody that's on there is beholden to someone
I'm just trying to be a voice for the classic race fans because they don't have as big a voice as mine
Joe and I raced for years and years and years
and neither one of us ever put a tire mark on each other all those years of racing
If you had one guy from back in the day that you could race against one more time
he was senior to me and when I was a kid I came in

Proportion. It’s something Aston is famously good at. Look at all that bonnet, the suggestion of power and presence, how the cabin is set back, the roofline dropping to the rear. As a design it communicates exactly what the DB12 is all about and presents it in a great-looking, beautifully proportioned package.
But don’t you think it’s also a bit… imbalanced? I’ll tell you where I’m going with this – look at the size difference between the bonnet and the bootlid. What it says to me is that this is all about the engine, and what happens at the back is very much an afterthought. An afterthought that, when you try to use it, is alarmingly easy to smack your head on. ‘You’ll only do that once,’ I hear you saying. Not so, I’m currently on three strikes and very nearly out.
You can’t load the boot. You either bend down miles or sort of put your chin over the bootlid and load without looking. It’s like putting something under your bed – you rest your chin on top and sort of rummage around. It’s awkward. And the 262-litre area is tiny. And oddly shaped.
This, I remind you, is Aston’s grand tourer. The one that should whisk you across Europe and allow you to elegantly unload outside some French chateau. Instead you’ll be explaining to the worried bellhop how you got that bruise on your brow and why your bags are pre-unpacked with the contents thrust blindly in.
The broad-shouldered Vantage is a bruiser of a sports car, but it gets a proper hatch at the back. Big old 346-litre area back there. Probably swallows a set of golfing irons. And does so without putting a crick in your back. That’s the one you’d imagine has been designed as the grand tourer.
Because no-one’s putting anyone in the back seats of one of these. Sure there are a pair of seats back there, or at least seat-shaped spaces, but climbing in is like posting yourself into a kitchen cupboard – you’d only do it to see if you actually fitted. And even then only after several wines. Imagine the knuckle-gnawing indignity of clambering out at the chateau.
Oh, so you’re going to transport kids are you? Yeah, right. You show me the DB12 owner with a family who doesn’t also own a dirty great SUV. Look, amongst grand tourers, there’s only one it’s acceptable to be seen climbing out of the back of, and that’s the Conti GT.
There’s no point in the DB12 having back seats. They’re there to distinguish GT from sports car, that’s it. And the same applies to the bootlid. With the added point that a full tailgate does also look a bit plebian. The DB12 ought to function as a daily driving supercar, and when it comes to practicality, it misses the mark.

The profits we make from it go back to BBC programme-makers to help fund great new BBC programmes
BBC is a trademark of the British Broadcasting Corporation
the 2025 IIHF U18 World Championship is over
splitting time between Comerica Center and Credit Union of Texas Event Center
Canada defeated Sweden in Saturday’s final
winning its first-ever back-to-back golds at the event
And Switzerland was relegated for the first time in two decades
losing to a Norwegian program on the rise in recent years
I had notes on nearly 100 of the top prospects in the 2025
and disappointments and fallers — as well as a couple of notables I had mixed feelings about
who pulled away in the tournament scoring race and set Sweden’s all-time single-tournament goals and points record
It felt like everything he touched ended up in the back of the net
he was creating looks inside the offensive zone
He’s a fascinating story because he didn’t have a great year in the OHL
and came into the tournament ranked 178th in North America by NHL Central Scouting as a 5-foot-9.75 winger
There are layers to the way his season went that haven’t been fully contextualized
including that he was very ill when he first showed up in Ottawa and it lingered throughout the fall
impacting the full first half of his year while they tried to figure out what was ailing him
combined with playing on a bottom-of-the-standings Ottawa 67’s team that struggled to score
and for a coach in Dave Cameron who I don’t think got the most out of him when he was healthy
He’s still ultimately a small winger who’s destined to be a mid-round pick
but the last two weeks were still a clear indication of his real talent
His standup skating stride can look a little unconventional
but he’s agile on cuts and can play with tempo
He finds his way around of ton of chances in the home plate area
He showed a quick catch and release and quick hands
I even liked how he won body positioning on the cycle
He was a driver of offence at both five-on-five and made his power-play unit the de facto go-to unit after it wasn’t always that way this year
Awesome week for the kid — though his gold medal game was his first quiet one of the event
Stenberg continues to look like the second-best forward in next year’s draft to me
and was a standout in most of Sweden’s games
(He scored on a lucky bounce in the semifinals against USA
but I actually thought that and the final were his least impactful games after he was one of the best players on the ice in group play and the quarters.)
protecting pucks and pushing through contact for a 5-foot-11 winger and drew a few penalties holding pucks along the cycle
He gets off the wall and wants to take inside ice
He’s dangerous on the flank on the power play and likes the one-timer
The puck comes off his stick extremely quickly and hard
He’s got dynamic one-on-one skill with defenders and goalies
And despite being among the tournament scoring leaders
he hit a couple of posts and could have had more looks
He’s going to be one of the first players picked in next year’s draft
and that was never more evident than over the last couple of weeks in Texas
He rocked two or three players per game and was eventually ejected for interference in the first period of Canada’s semifinal for what amounted to hitting a kid too hard after he’d made a pass
His presence is felt in every game he plays in and he was great in the gold medal game
That is why Brady Martin is going to be a first round pick in the 2025 #NHLDraft

— Canadian Hockey League (@CHLHockey) May 4, 2025
I thought he started the tournament a little slow offensively but as the event wore on he made some skill plays one-on-one
his skating looked quick and he did it within his established identity as a fearless forward who sticks with plays
goes to the dirt areas and forces turnovers
Don’t be surprised if he goes top 10 in June
Verhoeff joined Team Canada late after his Victoria Royals lost to the Spokane Chiefs in the second round of the WHL playoffs
I thought he didn’t have his best game in his debut against Finland and he was just fine in the gold medal game
but he was Canada’s best defenseman as an underager in between
Outside of average skating (his feet can look a little heavy under his 6-foot-4 frame at times)
he looks like the real deal in every other area of the game
played in all situations and made some big plays
including a great play to set up the overtime winner against the Czechs in the quarterfinals
he’s got great instincts offensively and defensively
he likes to involve himself in the play offensively both on and off the puck inside the offensive zone and he’s a summer birthday who is still 16 and has a ton of runway to get even better
2 next year and looks like a star prospect
The 5-foot-7 Mooney was USA’s driver all tournament until he got injured and left early in the second period of the bronze medal game
I actually thought his least impactful game of the tournament was USA’s semifinal loss to the Swedes and he still had points on all three American goals in the game
His line with 2026 forward Mikey Berchild and 2025 forward Jacob Kvasnicka (who I thought made a case to at least get picked and looked like he’ll be a solid college player for Minnesota with his work ethic all tournament) was USA’s best
He put a ton of pucks into space for his linemates
He flowed with play beautifully and found ways to navigate around the ice with his cutbacks in control
His ability to spin on a dime and lose and separate from guys
both in open ice and even inside the offensive zone
putting defenders in the spin cycle inside the offensive zone with his ability to slip and slide around them
creating a ton of entries and finding holes in coverage to weave through
playing in the guts of the ice and laying a few of the biggest non-Brady Martin hits of the tournament
tagging guys such as Anton Frondell and Ivar Stenberg
It was a very impressive week after an up-and-down season
I thought he outplayed the other two top little guys
USA looked like a completely different team
Team USA outscored the opposition 12-2 with Mooney on the ice in the tournament at five-on-five and he was my final cut for my tournament all-star team ballot at forward (it was down to him and Martin)
Bjorck got better as the tournament went on and played his best game in Sweden’s semifinal against Team USA
I don’t think he was quite the standout that the players ahead of him on this list were
but the top of the 2026 class stood out more in the event than the 2025s
and his skill level was a distinguisher at times
He will go outside to attack back inside with his agility and ability to carve into defenders’ hands
He’s strong for his size (he’s listed at 5-foot-9 but he looked bigger than that to me) and will take pucks to the blue paint on D
He’s got adjustable feet to slip away from sticks and turn away from coverage
He shakes his man so well and has high-end stick skill to combine with his cutting game to make guys miss (which he drew some penalties out of)
He’s got a quick first three steps and can accelerate around D from a standstill
He was a go-to five-on-three penalty killer for them
He can turn over some pucks trying to be too cute at times
but he also showed a good stick on lifts to get pucks back and attack quickly out of it
This tournament had a weak crop of goaltenders
and that made Ivankovic look comparatively speaking like he was in a different class
building on his legacy with the Program of Excellence
He needed to remind people of that after getting lit up a couple of times by the Gens in the first-round of the OHL playoffs (though it should be noted that Oshawa also lit up Brantford and Barrie in the next two rounds)
and after his numbers with Brampton were good but not great in the regular season
It’s especially important for him to continue to show people that he’s a top goalie because of his 5-foot-11 listing
anticipation and hockey sense are very high-end and those combined with impressive movement allow him to get to east-west plays and make big saves
He plays the puck extremely well and was an important part of Canada’s breakout at times
And he battled in the net and held the line on scrambles and jam plays all week
There were extended stretches when Canada struggled at five-on-five against the Finns
and they don’t even get to the gold medal game without a couple of big saves in overtime of the quarterfinals
Others I liked or I thought helped themselves:
Frondell came mid-tournament from a championship celebration across seven time zones after helping Djurgarden to promotion into the SHL
He was going to be jet lagged and probably not at his best in the earlier games in the tournament
But with scouts from all of the top teams in attendance and him in the conversation at the top of the draft coming in after an up-and-down year that finished up with excellent HockeyAllsvenskan production in the regular season
They broke up their most successful line all year (Milton Gastrin between Ivar Stenberg and Viktor Klingsell) to put him with prominent linemates
he wasn’t used as a go-to player in offensive or defensive situations for the Swedes
He couldn’t generate offensive looks for himself
puck protection and willingness to play a team game and support pucks or pick up assignments
he didn’t look like a surefire top-five talent
And while they aren’t the be-all and end-all of a year
there were other similar stretches (between some excellent ones where he looked like a stud) this year as well
I’ve seen enough that I still think he projects as an excellent 2C in the NHL
but he didn’t have anywhere near the impact that James Hagens and Porter Martone
He was better early on in the final but still struggled to break through
There has been a lot of conversation this year about who the second- and third-best D in this class are after Matthew Schaefer
Smith didn’t make a convincing case for most of the tournament that he was one of them for me
but he played his best game in the gold medal game and scored a big goal
The @TCAmericans' Jackson Smith has his fourth of the #U18MensWorld

skated some pucks in neutral ice and showed his good edges opening up
was productive for Tri-City and made some high-end plays this year
But there were also times on a blue line that was made up almost entirely of 2026s where Team Canada needed some of their 2025s to step up and I thought he
Alex Huang and Quinn Beauchesne all struggled in stretches and were outplayed certainly by 2026s Verhoeff and Carson Carels at times (and also Ryan Lin to a lesser degree)
It’s the IQ piece that my attention was drawn to on a number of occasions
took some bad routes and made some bad reads defensively
getting beat or making mistakes a little too often for my liking
I think he’s more of a teens guy than a 9-12 guy for me
I still have the questions I had coming in
Boumedienne broke the tournament’s all-time D scoring record and played more minutes than any other player in the event
But picking the two D on the all-star team was also a challenge this year and Boumedienne had some real highs and lows
He needs to move the puck a bit quicker at times
He doesn’t always think his D-zone coverage and pick up his man that well
His execution isn’t always clean and he seems to bobble and mishandle a lot of pucks
He turned over a bunch of pucks and got caught cheating and out of position a few times
But he’s also a brilliant skater and 6-foot-2 and at this level that allows him to be a top player
He got first touch on pucks on the PK and cleared the zone well
He was jumping into the rush and deep into the offensive zone off the line
He looked to create and wanted to be a difference-maker
He got a lot of shots through from the point and was obviously involved in a lot of offence
If he can just improve the speed at which he processes the play
But he’s still learning the game in a lot of ways

The sixth round of the 2025 Formula One World Championship got underway at Miami International Autodrome
Fernando and our team from across the weekend
A weekend of mixed outcomes and mixed conditions in the Sunshine State
Further rain hit Miami International Autodrome ahead of the Grand Prix
The circuit dried up enough for our drivers to begin on dry tyres
but patches of water remained and the threat of further rain loomed
with Lance up to P15 by the end of the first lap
Lance's pitstop came at the end of Lap 20
Fernando switched his Hards for Mediums under a Virtual Safety Car
Fernando and Lance concluded the race in P15 and P16 respectively
"Difficult race for us today and very tricky conditions
We just simply lack pace – we've been slow all season so far and today wasn't any exception
With an uneventful race and no opportunities
it just shows how we're not competitive and need to look at improving the car in all areas."
We didn't have the pace the whole weekend
We faced similar challenges today that we've had all season and couldn't capitalise on any chaos ahead of us
We need to get better and hopefully in Imola take a step forward."
"Today's results in the Miami Grand Prix are a reminder that we are simply lacking car performance
There were very few opportunities to progress from our starting positions and the race turned out to be a comfortable one-stop race for the entire field
"It was important that we scored four points with Lance yesterday in the Sprint
but under normal dry conditions we don't have a car capable of competing for points right now
We need to continue to analyse where we can improve and work hard to be more competitive in Imola."
We'll be making our way to Emilia-Romagna for the beginning of another triple-header
with Free Practice getting started on 16 May
Rain hit the track ahead of the Sprint and created tricky conditions that resulted in a suspended starting procedure and subsequent Red Flag
our drivers both had strong starts on the Intermediates
Fernando had climbed to eighth and Lance to P11 by the end of the first racing lap
allowing Lance to pit for dry tyres at the end of Lap 11
but his Sprint came to an unfortunate end after contact from behind
resulting in a Safety Car with Lance running in P7
Lance secured a top-five finish and claimed four points
Fernando and Lance finished P17 and P19 respectively
#18 | Lance Stroll | Sprint & Qualifying
"We know we don't have the pace currently and finished Qualifying as we expected
We made some positive set-up changes following the Sprint and the car felt the best it has been all weekend
So it felt really good to get a decent result in the Sprint earlier today
"It's the little wins at the moment
and it felt like everything fell into place
with lots of opportunities and some good decisions
But we're not where we want to be right now and need to find more pace."
#14 | Fernando Alonso | Sprint & Qualifying
we just didn't have the pace to proceed to Q2
so it will be a challenge to score points tomorrow
We need to better understand the issues and find some pace
I was having a perfect race and felt competitive
but we were still going to score points when Lawson made contact with me
"Thank you to the team on the ground who helped repair the car before Qualifying: the mechanics always perform at the top level so thanks to them."
"An eventful day in Miami with a wet Sprint and a dry Qualifying session keeping us busy and the fans entertained
Lance scored four points in the Sprint with an excellent race and well-judged strategy
as he ran in the points until Liam [Lawson] pushed him into wall in the closing laps
"Getting Fernando's car fixed and out in time for Qualifying required a massive team effort – drawing on the component preparation work done back at base – and both sides of the garage helping with repairs
"The Qualifying results are reflective of our pace combined with such a tight grid
Let's see what we can do to progress up the field tomorrow
We will be ready to maximise any opportunities in the race."
After setting a single lap on all slick tyre compounds
Lance and Fernando spent the majority of the weekend's sole Free Practice collecting information on the Medium compound
They then switched to Softs for the final 15 minutes
Practice came to an early end following a Red Flag
After spending the session getting up to speed with the circuit
Sprint Qualifying got underway in the 305
where he secured a P10 start for tomorrow's Sprint
#18 | Lance Stroll | Free Practice & Sprint Qualifying
"Sprint Qualifying didn't play out well for me today: I had a lot of traffic on my final push lap and was a bit unlucky with where I came across [Max] Verstappen on the final straight
All of that cost me a few tenths and I just missed the chance to get through to SQ2
"Let's see what tomorrow brings for the Sprint race
Hopefully some opportunities come our way and there is a chance to make up some positions."
#14 | Fernando Alonso | Free Practice & Sprint Qualifying
"It's a bit of a surprise to qualify where we did because the car is still struggling with balance and it's not always consistent - but all in all
"This is the first time I have made it through to SQ3 this season so hopefully we can keep up that momentum
Only the top eight cars will score points tomorrow

If you are a large 401(k) plan considering offering in-house funds
Lockheed Martin Corporation and its subsidiary investment management company are facing legal action from current and former participants in their 401(k) plans
They are accused of violating fiduciary duties of prudence and loyalty by utilizing an in-house service provider and affiliated target-date funds
The aerospace and defense company is alleged to have taken a “do-it-yourself” (DIY) approach to managing their 401(k) investments
ineffective private investment funds,” and charging “excessive and unreasonable fees” to plan assets
District Court of Maryland and involves three of Lockheed’s 401(k) plans: the salaried plan
claim that Lockheed violated its fiduciary duties to over 140,000 beneficiaries by selecting and maintaining Lockheed Martin Investment Management Co
(LMIMCo.) as the manager of the 401(k) plans
They also allege that Lockheed offered LMIMCo.’s own target-date funds (TDFs)
which were deemed “chronically underperforming” and high-cost
began offering a private equity co-investment sleeve within these TDFs
The most aggressive TDFs in Lockheed’s lineup have approximately 7% invested in a private equity fund
The lawsuit states that Lockheed’s choice to utilize its in-house TDFs
which carried “high fees” and demonstrated “poorer performance” compared to those offered by independent investment managers
was “unusual.” Plaintiffs noted that the in-house TDFs were two to five times more expensive than higher-performing TDFs offered by Vanguard
Lockheed designated these in-house TDFs as the only available investment options in the 401(k) plans and made them the default choice
The company also added additional in-house TDFs between March 2019 and this year for younger employees with longer retirement horizons
the lawsuit alleges that Lockheed misled participants in marketing the in-house TDFs
presenting them as the sole investment option necessary for retirement

The Nevada product struggled with his shot in his 14 games for the Valley after being traded to them at the deadline from the Charlotte Hornets
Welcome to our Phoenix Suns Season in Review series
where we take a closer look at each player who suited up during the 2024–25 campaign
and what each player can do to take the next step heading into next season
It took Nevada Wolfpack alum Cody Martin more than a month to suit up for the Valley after being traded to Phoenix at the trade deadline this season
not giving him much time or healthy opportunities to show what he could bring to the team as he was dealing with a sports hernia injury
he didn’t eclipse double-digit scoring once or have a game with multiple threes
registering just one game with more than 20 minutes played for the team
Martin will be entering the final year of his four-year
$31 million contract he signed with the Charlotte Hornets before the 2022-2023 season
The final year of his deal becomes fully guaranteed on June 30th
Martin was hurt with a sports hernia when he was acquired by the Suns for Jusuf Nurkić back in March
he made his debut more than a month after being traded
he averaged 14:42 minutes a game and took just 4.1 shots
If that were his season totals excluding his time with Charlotte
it would be his lowest minutes per game and second-fewest shots per game of his career
He wasn’t on the team long enough or played enough significant minutes to be considered a part of the problem for the Suns
but he shot 50% from the field or better in just five games for the team and under 35% in his nine other contests
His best game for the team came in the Valley’s best win of the season, beating the eventual 64-win Cleveland Cavaliers
Martin averaged 1.3 stocks per game (steals and blocks) with the Suns in his limited minutes; his four stocks in the team’s win against the Chicago Bulls were significant during the squad’s short
but strong stint of play in the middle of March
he’s an aggressive attacker at the glass and provided strong hustle for the team
Martin struggled to shoot efficiently in his time with the Valley
Shooting 35.1% from the field and 11.1% from deep
but it’s fair to attribute that partly due to the two-month absence he had that started while he was still in Charlotte
but he barely shot a third of that on less than two attempts with the Suns
Martin is unlikely to crack the Suns' rotation if he’s on the team next season
his salary and expiring contract can be used as a vehicle for the Suns to make trades with other teams
The Suns appear to be trying to get under the second apro,n and Phoenix may not guarantee his contract as a result
Was it the reason the Suns had a bad season
But his play with the team was not strong enough to justify the Suns getting rid of a first-round pick just to get rid of Jusuf Nurkić
Potentially if he returns next year and has a full training camp and is healthy

The strike begins during a time of record taxpayer-funded profits for the U.S
Lockheed Martin made $24 billion in profit and paid its CEO $66 million over the last three years

WASHINGTON (AP) — Most of President Donald Trump’s top nominees have sailed through the Senate with little resistance
His pick to be the top federal prosecutor for the nation’s capital could be an exception
a conservative activist with modest legal experience who has defended rioters who attacked the Capitol on Jan
is testing Republican party loyalties as a deadline approaches for the Senate to decide whether to extend or end his brief but tumultuous tenure as leader of the country’s largest U.S
Martin’s nomination faces vocal opposition from hundreds of veterans of the office that he is leading on an interim basis
Democrats are trying to tie up his confirmation vote
And Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have said they need more time to review his record
WATCH: Former Trump lawyer Alina Habba sworn in as interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey
There were signs of trouble at a Judiciary meeting on Thursday as Illinois Sen
said it was his understanding that committee chairman Chuck Grassley
was going to announce “that we are not going to move forward on the Martin nomination.”
saying he would wait to talk about Martin until the committee scheduled a vote
But he said he was still going through hundreds of questions that the committee had posed to Martin
adding that some of his staff “had more questions” and wanted to meet with him in person
It was hardly a ringing endorsement of Martin
who hasn’t spent much time in courtrooms but has been a devoted loyalist to Trump
Martin fired or demoted veteran attorneys who prosecuted Trump supporters for storming the U.S
he represented and helped raise money for Capitol riot defendants
He frequently appeared on Russian state media to parrot Trump talking points
He even published coloring books glorifying Trump’s tweets
READ MORE: Federal prosecutor resigns after refusing DOJ order to drop NYC Mayor Adams’ corruption case
Martin hasn’t responded to several Associated Press interview requests since he took office in January
Martin recently told NBC Washington that he is confident that Trump made the “right decision” in nominating him
He has touted his office’s work tackling violent crime
And he has told lawmakers that his opinions won’t influence his office decisions
“We have to keep the streets safe AND fight for America on the world stage
Amazing work and I am blessed to serve Donald Trump in this way,” Martin wrote in a Substack post
Any vote on Martin’s nomination is bound to be split along party lines
Democrats are calling for a rare hearing where they can grill him
The Judiciary panel traditionally does not hold confirmation hearings for U.S
Even if the committee were to approve Martin’s nomination
it would face obstacles on the Senate floor
Adam Schiff placed a hold on the nomination
meaning Republicans would have to spend several days of floor time to confirm him
attorneys are generally approved in groups by a quick voice vote
WATCH: Jan. 6 police officers, House Democrats blast Trump’s pardons
Schiff last month said Martin “has consistently undermined the independence and abused the power of the U.S
Attorney’s office in D.C.” since taking office
Martin has touted endorsements from leading conservative figures
Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee
Paul in a post on X said he’s confident Martin will “work to clean up DC and fight against the left’s lawless judicial tyranny
His supporters have said his record fighting conservative causes makes him the right person to lead the office that critics have claimed unfairly treated Jan

Safe Again” initiative to bring more gun cases in federal court
But a least one Republican member of the committee appears to have reservations
who has expressed some concerns about Martin’s Jan
said Thursday that he will meet with Martin next week
Trump appointed Martin the same week in January that he issued mass pardons to supporters who attacked the U.S
It was a morale-destroying choice for prosecutors who spent four years building cases against over 1,500 riot defendants
the largest investigation in Justice Department history
Martin was a leading figure in Trump’s “Stop the Steal” movement
He spoke at a rally in Washington on the eve of the riot
which he ranked among the top 10 cases of his legal career on his committee questionnaire
returned to his home office in the Justice Department before Martin arrived
And yet Martin tried to demote Romano to an entry-level position along with other senior prosecutors who worked on Capitol riot cases
“He appeared not to realize that I didn’t work for him,” said Romano
Martin served on the board of the nonprofit Patriot Freedom Project
which reports raising over $2.5 million to support Jan
he presented an award to a Capitol riot defendant
who openly espoused white supremacist and antisemitic ideology and photographed himself sporting a Hitler mustache
He referred to Hale-Cusanelli as a friend who is “an extraordinary guy.”
Martin told committee members that he condemns Hale-Cusanelli’s hateful comments as “abhorrent and deplorable.” He claimed he didn’t learn about them until after he presented him with the award during an event at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster
But Martin alluded to the controversy when he interviewed Hale-Cusanelli before the awards ceremony
Martin accused prosecutors of leaking photos of Hale-Cusanelli sporting the Hitler mustache to taint the jury pool
Critics have accused Martin of abusing his office — and his account on Musk’s X platform — to intimidate potential targets of investigations
At least three medical journals received letters from Martin asking about “competing viewpoints.” Another letter that he sent on office stationery accused Wikipedia of “allowing foreign actors to manipulate information and spread propaganda to the American public.”
Martin had a habit of getting ensnared in political controversies — and litigation — during his earlier forays into public service
he was chief of staff for then-Missouri Gov
Matt Blunt when he was sued by a former staff attorney who claimed he was fired in retaliation for complaining that the administration was destroying e-mails illegally
Martin was chairman of the Missouri Republican Party before becoming president of conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum in April 2013
He co-authored a book about Trump with Schlafly
Martin has referred to himself as one of the president’s lawyers
His critics have call him unqualified and unfit for the job
“Ed Martin has less experience than a misdemeanor assistant does after a week in basic training
That’s not an exaggeration,” said Kevin Flynn
who worked as a prosecutor under roughly a dozen U.S
attorneys in Washington before leaving the office in 2023

President Trump’s nominee for D.C. U.S. Attorney Ed Martin appears to be facing skepticism from the Senate Judiciary Committee, Republican members of which met this week to discuss the seemingly endless baggage and politically motivated acts that Martin has and will likely continue to mix into his work if officially confirmed to the position
Republicans on the panel also reportedly discussed whether to consider their Democratic colleagues’ requests to hold a hearing on Martin’s confirmation
It appears a few Republican members have some hangups about the guy
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) is the only Republican thus far to publicly acknowledge Martin might not be a great fit for the job. He’s been saying as much since February. According to CNN
Tillis said this week that he has “serious questions” about Martin’s nomination
specifically noting that his past remarks criticizing police officers who defended the Capitol on January 6 gave him pause
“I’m talking about somebody who wants to be [U.S. attorney] in the jurisdiction where that event and future events could possibly occur,” Tillis told CNN.“And I’m going to have to get some pretty fulsome responses for me to feel comfortable with this nomination.”
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) made a pseudo acknowledgment this week that some of his fellow Republicans on the panel may not be completely sold on Martin serving in a permanent capacity, CNN reported.
“We’ve had people on our staff that had more questions,” he said
ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee
said Durbin’s and other Democrats’ effort to shed light on how unqualified Martin is for the position — as evidenced by how he has used the gig (in an acting capacity) thus far to carry out Trump’s retribution agenda.
“Ranking Member Durbin and Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats will continue to scrutinize Ed Martin’s deeply problematic record and make the case that he is not fit to be a U.S
Ranking Member Durbin will call for a vote on holding a hearing if and when the Committee decides to move forward with the nomination,” he said
A source familiar with Martin’s nomination told TPM that
“at this time Martin doesn’t have the votes to be approved.”
Alex Padilla (D-CA) similarly told TPM in an emailed statement that he stands with fellow Senate Democrats in urging Grassley to hold a hearing on Martin’s nomination
“The American people deserve transparency on Ed Martin’s nomination to be the next U.S
His previous comments in support of The Big Lie and association with January 6th insurrectionists have raised serious concerns and make it necessary to more closely examine his qualifications for one of the country’s top law enforcement roles,” Padilla told TPM
“I stand with my fellow Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats in continuing to call on Chairman Grassley to immediately hold a hearing on Ed Martin’s nomination.”
While Durbin may be holding off on demanding a hearing for now, he was one of several Judiciary Committee Democrats who last month, in a letter to Grassley
requested that the chairman consider holding a hearing on Martin’s nomination
Senate Democrats argued that Martin “abused his position in multiple ways since being named Interim U.S

Ed Martin will be confirmed as Republicans fall in line
That is in the end at least 50 of the 53 Republicans in the Senate
and I predict one of those will be Thom Tillis
Ed Martin has the votes to be confirmed as nothing more than a crazily immature nut case
serial fabulist and undistinguished lawyer
Glad to see Durbin is stirring himself to maybe perhaps think about asking to pretend to have hearings which will be ignored and Martin will be appointed

Hopefully we get someone who understands that the fight is existential to replace him

was arrested in Miami on Thursday after being accused of threatening to kill three former business partners he’s known for “several years” ― including Shkreli
Shkreli was identified as one of the victims
The others were identified as Shkreli’s friend
and former Vyera Pharmaceuticals executive Akeel Mithani

a company founded by Shkreli as Turing Pharmaceuticals
The company came under fire in 2015 for raising the price of a life-saving medication by roughly 4,000% after obtaining exclusive rights to it
would later go to prison for securities fraud and conspiracy
In 2021, the Irish-born Mulleady was banned as part of a settlement from “working for
or controlling a pharmaceutical company” for seven years
the investigation into Mulleady began on March 27 after one of the victims reported to the FBI that Mulleady sent threats via social media platform X to him and the other victims
The report doesn’t specify which threats were sent directly to Shkreli
Mulleady sent a direct message to the victim stating the following: “I will kill you with my bare hands if I was legally permitted to do it
I think about ending your life bc you are a really bad person
Tell them Kevin Patrick Mulleady is going to kill you
Maybe the NYAG (New York attorney general) could help you with my threats on your life im coming for you
On Jan. 23, 2024, New York Attorney General Letitia James mentioned Mulleady in a news release announcing what her office called “the latest win against Martin Shkreli.”
The arrest report states Mulleady later contacted the victim and said things including
Im going to make you meet Jesus” and “I will drive that last (nail) in your coffin
Authorities said he texted photos of guns to the two other victims and
Deputies said he also sent a threatening voicemail
They went to Mulleady’s apartment in the Infinity at Brickell building
on Thursday to serve a risk protection order and arrest him
The arrest report states that Mulleady surrendered a firearm
“equipped with an installed silencer,” “along with over 500 rounds of ammunition.”
Mulleady appeared in Miami-Dade bond court on Friday morning
where Judge Mindy Glazer ordered he be held on a $22,500 bond after finding probable cause to charge him with three counts of written threats to kill or do bodily injury
who claims to have ”founded or co-founded over 25 successful companies," is indigent and is being represented by the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office
“It’s easy for people to accuse you of s---
but it’s harder for them to really prove it at the trial.”
“Anybody can go on their phone and write something from somebody else
I can program a phone number to say it’s your name,” the attorney continued
he’ll be on Level 3 house arrest ― the least restrictive form
He was also ordered to stay away from Shkreli and the other two victims and not communicate with them online
Those records show he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday afternoon

Cancellation of the Orion program could cost Lockheed Martin stock billions
Lockheed Martin (LMT -0.42%) is riding the market roller coaster on Friday
In early trading, shares of the defense giant jumped nearly 3% on a Wells Fargo report calling the new fiscal year 2026 defense budget a "big win for defense stocks."
than Bloomberg broke bad news for Lockheed: The Trump administration plans to end Space Launch System launches and terminate production of Orion space capsules (carried by SLS on NASA's Project Artemis moon missions) after just three launches
Now Lockheed stock is down 1.9% as of 11:50 a.m
Pentagon could see its budget grow 13% year over year
if Congress approves the administration's budget request
As the nation's largest pure-play defense contractor
Lockheed Martin could inherit a lot of this wealth -- good news that helped drive early gains for the defense stock
Arguably Lockheed Martin's most important space product
trouble-plagued Orion was expected to fly as many as 20 times under Project Artemis
generating billions of dollars for Lockheed
Lockheed Martin's revenue stream looks at risk
But don't panic: Orion's a big space program for Lockheed Martin
Each Orion nets about $900 million in revenue for Lockheed
But relative to Lockheed's share of a potential $150 billion increase in defense spending
Orion actually looks like small space potatoes
At a P/E ratio north of 20
I can't call Lockheed Martin stock "cheap" exactly
But if you like the valuation on this stock before today's news
I don't think the cancellation of Orion should necessarily dissuade you from owning Lockheed Martin stock

Martin Scorsese is an American filmmaker known for his harsh
often violent depictions of American culture
From the 1970s Scorsese created an ambitious body of work that made him one of the most important filmmakers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries
He reflects in his films both a cynicism toward modern culture and an obvious love of the cinema
In an essay that Martin Scorsese wrote in 2018 for the Encyclopædia Britannica Anniversary Edition: 250 Years of Excellence
he recounted his efforts since the 1970s to save the history of filmmaking
He was successful in instilling a new focus on film preservation; however
“[i]n the future the memory of the actual film image will have to be preserved as carefully and lovingly as an ancient artifact at the Met.”
he is perhaps the most significant American director of the late 20th and early 21st centuries
(Read Martin Scorsese’s Britannica essay on film preservation.)
Among them were shorts such as What’s a Nice Girl like You Doing in a Place like This
who did 10 films with Scorsese between 1973 and 2023)
often hilarious performances of Keitel and De Niro were as much responsible for igniting this low-budget masterpiece as Scorsese’s atmospheric locations
the film later developed a cult following largely because of its obvious affection for old Hollywood
