In November 2023, the companies signed a letter of intent to this effect with the Slovakian government regarding the factory. The partners had already presented the key points of the joint factory in September the location was still generally referred to as the “Central European region.” The press release does not mention the sum of the agreement Construction of the new factory will kick off towards the end of the year The plant will have an initial capacity of 20 GWh it will have a total capacity of 60 GWh but the company has not disclosed when this will be the case Phase one will span 100 hectares and create more than 1,000 jobs the new site will deploy “an innovative closed-loop circular value-chain located in the Šurany strategic eco park home of the Šurany Battery Hub.” “The successful implementation of the project in Slovakia cannot be possible without the strong support from the Slovak government and the close cooperation with our partners,” says Li Zhen “Adhering to the principle of ‘In Slovakia For Slovakia,’ and with the robust backing of the Slovak government assisting Šurany in becoming a crucial hub for batteries and new energy industries in Europe and contributing Gotion’s strength to global energy transformation.” becoming a leader in the battery sector to clean energy and e-mobility,” adds InoBat CEO Marian Boček “GIB’s Šurany factory will be among the largest and most innovative of its kind in the world The Šurany Battery Hub will become a showcase for strategic eco-parks and a Hub for Research & Development The Chinese and the Slovaks had already signed a memorandum of understanding in February 2023 provided for the examination of a joint factory the memorandum of understanding also mentioned a technical cooperation for LFP and NMC batteries The companies also looked at the potential of producing batteries for stationary energy storage in the existing InoBat plants in Slovakia to give Gotion quick access to the European market the companies founded a joint venture called GIB (Gotion-InoBat-Batteries) inobat.eu I agree with the Privacy policy electrive has been following the development of electric mobility with journalistic passion and expertise since 2013 we offer comprehensive coverage of the highest quality — as a central platform for the rapid development of this technology The expected tariff cost is significantly lower than the $4 billion to $5 billion crosstown rival General Motors estimates which Ford attributes to its higher mix of U.S.-built vehicles a joint venture (JV) between Gotion High-Tech and InoBat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Slovakian Government to establish a gigafactory GIB has committed to constructing a gigafactory with an initial 20GWh capacity Under the MoU the Slovak government has pledged to provide subsidies and ensure a connection to the electrical grid GIB has committed to beginning construction in 2024 and targets the start of production for Q2 2026 The 20GWh full-scale production is scheduled for 2027 however the MoU outlines that the facility may be expanded to 40GWh The press release made no mention of how large the subsidies would be however any subsidy committed will have to be approved by the European Commission no mention was made about cell chemistry or supply deals “GIB represents joint effort of InoBat and Gotion High Tech in developing a battery gigafactory in Slovakia GIB represents a unique example of strong partnership between fast-growing start-up with the outstanding experience in project development and knowledge of Slovakian context and the technology leader capable of delivering a full range of technology and scale-up manufacturing capacities.” InoBat and Gotion originally signed an MoU in January 2023 which outlined the plans to develop a JV gigafactory in Eastern Europe bought a 25% stake in InoBat at an undisclosed price InoBat commented that the investment would help accelerate its path to mass production this news follows the announcement of an InoBat facility in Serbia with the help of a large incentives package from the Serbian Government amounting to EUR419 million (USD460 million) This is yet another step in Gotion’s global expansion __________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ Sources: InoBatInoBat Join us at the Akustika Fair at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre from April 4-6 Meet The Strad team at stand F08 and pick up a free copy of the magazine The Strad Directory Jobs Conyers and Rex Surany join the faculty from this spring semester Conyers is one of two new doubles bassists appointed to the Juilliard string facultyPhoto: Nicole Roche The Juilliard string faculty has appointed two new double bassists: Joseph H They will be joining Juilliard’s other bass teachers - Stephen Fry’s public persona is so English that people assume he’s got “ancestors made largely of tweed” That’s not how the actor and writer sees his heritage this was a role occupied by his maternal grandfather a larger-than-life Jewish émigré from Eastern Europe who had the apparently infuriating habit of punning in two languages It was Martin’s expertise in the sugar industry that brought him to the UK in 1927 Having worked at Europe’s largest sugar beet factory Neumann was recruited as an advisor at a newly established factory in Bury St Edmunds But what happened to the rest of Martin’s family Before he heads to Europe, ultimately to uncover a mournful story of the Holocaust Stephen is first keen to learn more about his paternal grandmother He suspects he may find a dark secret as he heads for the Family Records Centre in Islington In the event, it seems more a case of the family not referring to Ella’s past because she came from such a desperately poor background. Stephen’s 2x great grandfather, Henry (1827-96), for example, was an inmate at the workhouse in Lewisham Stephen heads for Vienna and military archives held in the city he discovers more about Martin Neumann’s experiences in the First World War Martin volunteered the Austro-Hungarian army and won a medal for his service on the Eastern Front in Romania in part perhaps because he brought food at a time of shortages Seeing the apartment block where the Brauns lived Stephen discovers a plaque that features the names of his great grandparents It’s a monument to those who lived in the building and were taken to the concentration camps during the Holocaust Samuel and Berta were among 65,000 Viennese Jews deported to a ghetto in Latvia in 1942 But for the job opportunity that took him to East Anglia Martin could easily have shared their fate where he visits the now closed and desolate sugar factory where Stephen worked In a 1926 old photograph Stephen’s delighted to see that Martin looks a little like a young Einstein now locked and surrounded by a concrete wall to prevent desecration and robbery It’s here that Stephen’s great grandfather More disturbing still is the history of the town’s Jewish population a country that fought with the Axis powers in the Second World War More than 600 Jews from Surany were murdered in the Holocaust Stephen has long thought his mother’s cousins died at the hands of the Nazis but seeing documentary evidence of their fate still affects him deeply “Seeing their names there and that f***ing word Stephen tells his family of the “malevolent history” that he’s found “I’m so lucky simply to be alive,” he says Gotion InoBat Batteries has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Slovakian government to support the construction of a planned gigafactory The deal builds on an agreement from February 2023 in which InoBat and Gotion High-Tech expressed their intention to collaborate on battery technology for electric vehicles and energy storage solutions the partners announced they were looking for a factory location in the Middle-European region The latest memorandum provides for the construction of a battery factory in southern Slovakian city Šurany The initial annual capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours could later be expanded to up to 40 Gigawatt-hours per year Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024 with production starting in the second quarter of 2026 and reaching full capacity by 2027 The Slovakian Ministry of Economy has agreed to grant subsidies and secure the connection to the electricity grid The Šurany site will be built on an area of 65 hectares and is expected to create thousands of jobs
