FORT LAUDERDALE — The strange case of the Chinese woman who lied to get into Mar-a-Lago while President Donald Trump and his family were visiting in March will end with her deportation
The stage for Yujing Zhang to be sent back to China was set on Monday when U.S. District Court Judge Roy Altman sentenced the 33-year-old self-described investment counselor to eight months in prison. Since that is roughly the time Zhang has already spent behind bars, Altman said she could be turned over to immigration officials as early as this weekend
How long it will take for her to be processed is unknown
she has no legal ability to stay in the country and will eventually be forced to return to her home in Shanghai
During the roughly hour-long sentencing hearing
Zhang offered unclear and confusing explanations for why she lied to U.S
Secret Service agents to get into the president’s exclusive club in Palm Beach and suggested that Trump had publicly said she had an invitation to visit
“I came there to meet president and maybe his family .
She insisted that Trump had told “the media” that she had permission to come to the club. When neither Altman nor her attorney said they had read or heard that Trump had extended such an invitation
she suggested “maybe it was different media.”
However, Altman said such claims were part of a pattern. As a jury agreed after a three-day jury trial in September, Zhang lied to get past tight security at Mar-a-Lago. And
Altman took advantage of the opportunity to quiz Zhang about why she had carried an array of electronic devices
multiple SIM cards and a device that can detect hidden cameras for her visit
The defense attorney Zhang fired when she decided to represent herself suggested that it wasn’t unusual for foreign visitors to carry multiple cellphones and other devices
The devices are common tools for business travelers
When asked specifically about the device to detect hidden cameras
Attorney Rolando Garcia asked Altman to sentence Zhang to 18 months in prison to punish her for her repeated lies
but continued to lie when brought before a federal magistrate
At a hearing before Magistrate William Matthewman shortly after her March 30 arrest
Zhang claimed she only had $5,000 in a U.S
an investigation showed she had $40,000 in a brokerage account along with $8,000 in cash in her hotel room
Altman said it wasn’t clear Zhang intentionally lied about her financial holdings
he said the crime Zhang committed was serious
Garcia said he believed Zhang “had an agenda.”
“She clearly knew she did not have permission to go on that property yet she spent thousands of dollars and traveled halfway around the world” to get into the club while Trump and his family were visiting
“It is serious for anyone to try to break into a government installation,” he said
it is more serious if the installation is where the president and his family are staying.”
Zhang was arrested after convincing federal agents she was a member of Mar-a-Lago
Although she was wearing an evening dress and didn’t have a bathing suit with her
Secret Service agents waved her through a security checkpoint when she said she wanted to use the club pool
Zhang told club managers she had come to Mar-a-Lago to attend a United Nations Friendship event
an external hard drive and a thumb drive in her purse
when they searched her room at The Colony Hotel
Agents initially said one of the devices contained a virus
they admitted the detection of malware was false
an examination of her cellphone revealed that Zhang had been told that the so-called friendship event had been canceled before she left Shanghai
a Chinese businessman who arranged the trip for Zhang
While he tried to interest her in rerouting her trip to attend an event with former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
she asked Lee for a $20,000 refund of the travel package
Go ahead and credit the money back to my account by this weekend.”
the next day she paid $2,000 for a flight and showed up at Mar-a-Lago anyway
“She was bound and determined to get on that property,” Garcia told jurors during the trial
“She lied to everybody to get on that property.”
While her arrest sparked concern that she was a Chinese spy
Zhang isn't the first person to face charges this year for skirting security at Mar-a-Lago while Trump was visiting
who was visiting his grandparents during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday
wandered the grounds for 20 minutes before being stopped by federal agents
When 18-year-old Mark Lindblom pleaded guilty in May to a charge of gaining access to restricted grounds
he said he got into Mar-a-Lago by walking through a beach access point reserved for club members
youth apologized profusely and was placed on probation by Matthewman
The ability of Zhang and Lindblom to bypass tight security at Mar-a-Lago raised questions about federal agents' ability to protect Trump while he is at the club that he has dubbed the Winter White House
The Secret Service acknowledged that it doesn't determine who gets into the club
but screens visitors carefully to assure the president and his family are protected
there was a vast difference between a prank played by a college student and what Zhang did
She purposefully tried to get into Mar-a-Lago and then lied about why she was there
he found her demeanor during the trial duplicitous
she feigned an inability to understand English when it suited her purpose
while she may not have understood some legal principles
she clearly understood English and did an admirable job of representing herself
Her reasons for so desperately wanting to meet Trump and his family may have been simply a desire to rub elbows with the rich and powerful
The texts she exchanged with Lee showed a peculiar trait
“She was obsessed with famous people,” he said

Federal prosecutors want an 18-month prison sentence for the Chinese businesswoman convicted of trespassing and lying to Secret Service agents
Attorney Rolando Garcia said in a court memo that he agrees sentencing guidelines suggest that Zhang get between zero and six months when she is sentenced in Fort Lauderdale
(AP) — A federal judge on Monday sentenced a Chinese businesswoman to eight months in prison for trespassing at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club and lying to Secret Service agents
District Judge Roy Altman also ordered that 33-year-old Yujing Zhang be turned over to immigration officials for deportation upon her release
Because she received nearly eight months’ credit for being jailed since her arrest March 30
Sentencing guidelines called for a sentence of zero to six months
Altman said trespassing on a government property
particularly one where the president is staying
is a “serious offense.” He also said “the evidence was overwhelming” that Zhang lied to Secret Service agents to get into Mar-a-Lago and when they confronted her
“She lied time and time again,” Altman said
Zhang told Altman she went to Mar-a-Lago “to meet the president and family and just make friends.” When an incredulous Altman questioned her about whether she thought she could really meet the Trumps
Zhang laughed loudly and said she hoped to meet other people
Zhang then told Altman that the president told reporters that he had invited Zhang to Mar-a-Lago
Attorney Rolando Garcia cited Zhang’s falsehoods in arguing for an 18-month sentence
saying Zhang “lied to everybody” to get into Mar-a-Lago
the club’s receptionist and even her taxi driver
Garcia also pointed to the electronics found on her person and in her hotel room
“That certainly does not suggest she is some misguided tourist
He did not specify what he believed Zhang’s agenda was but said her actions “suggest it was not just to take a photo with a famous person.”
Zhang allowed federal public defender Kristy Militello to help her at the hearing
Militello told Altman that Zhang had a “fantastical idea” that she could form a business partnership with the president
She said Mar-a-Lago has no rule against carrying any number of electronics
She said Zhang should be sentenced to the eight months she has already served
a computer and an external hard drive and her hotel contained more electronics and cash
That led to speculation she might be a spy
text messages outlined at her trial and posted to her court file after her conviction suggest she hoped to meet the president or his family to discuss possible business deals
who Altman said owns a $1.5 million house in China
paid $20,000 in February to “Charles,” a man she knew only online
to attend a Chinese-American friendship event at Mar-a-Lago on March 30
The Mar-a-Lago event promised a photo with the president or a member of his family
Zhang’s former public defenders believe “Charles” is Charles Lee
a Chinese national who ran the United Nations Chinese Friendship Association
Charles texted Zhang in mid-March that the Mar-a-Lago event had been canceled but he could get her into other events featuring Bill and Hillary Clinton or billionaire Warren Buffett
Prosecutors said this proved she knew the Trump meet-and-greet was off and her arrival at Mar-a-Lago wasn’t a misunderstanding
Zhang flew to the United States on March 28
a taxi dropped her off at the Secret Service screening area across from Mar-a-Lago
The president and his family were visiting the club
although he was playing golf at his nearby course and Zhang was never near him
the 34-year old Chinese woman convicted of trespassing at Mar-a-Lago
is still in custody over a year after finishing her sentence
A hand-written court filing appears to indicate Zhang wants to know why
Zhang filed a petition for habeas corpus and filed an amended petition just before Christmas
Zhang writes in the petition that she has been in custody "for one year without normal connection with my family & without stable income
and unknown when I am going to be released."
Her filing notes she is "in custody at Glades County Jail," where she's been since December 2019
Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody at the Glades County Detention Center
"I need an attorney since I'm in jail and attorney may help me get out of the jail," Zhang writes
RELATED: Hundreds of jail phone calls released in Yujing Zhang case
Zhang also claims she's lost contact with her family
"It violates a person's basic rights by being in custody a year without being able to make phone calls to my family," she says in the court filing
"the fact is I have lost contact with my parent [sic] the whole year."
a Chinese businesswoman convicted of trespassing at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort and lying to federal agents is now in the custody of immigration officials
Prosecutors are asking a judge for a harsher penalty when sentencing Yujing Zhang
the Chinese woman convicted for sneaking into Mar-a-Lago
Zhang was convicted in September for trespassing at President Trump's club in Palm Beach and lying to the Secret Service. WPTV first broke the story of Zhang's arrest last April.
Attorney's Office filed a motion for an "upward variance," asking the judge to tack on up to an extra year on Zhang's sentence
the guideline range for her conviction calls for up to six months in prison
prosecutors say that Zhang lied to a judge about her financial assets
Prosecutors write Zhang claimed to only have about $5,000 in a bank account
but did not disclose two wire transfers to a brokerage account
The filing notes "the guidelines do not punish the defendant for lying to United States Magistrate Judge William Matthewman about material facts related to her finances."
Zhang's obstructive conduct in lying to the Magistrate Judge essentially goes unpunished."
told WPTV that while it's not unusual for prosecutors to ask for additional time on a sentence
it is in what would normally be a minor charge
"It is unusual to ask for it in a basic trespassing case
it shows you there something more than just trespassing
Something involving national security," Aronberg said in an interview
Prosecutors also say that Zhang's sentence should be longer because of a pattern of lies she told both before and after her arrest
"Not only did Zhang lie to the Court but she also lied to practically everyone she encountered in the United States," writes the U.S
The filing also draws on the recent case against Zhao Qianli which was also filed in the Southern District of Florida with similar circumstances.
a Chinese student who was in the United States on an expired visa
was convicted for trespassing at a naval installation in Key West and taking "multiple photographs and video footage of a separately secured satellite dish and antenna farm."
the judge imposed a sentence of twelve months in prison
which was above the sentencing guideline of up to six months imprisonment
"Both Qianli and Zhang entered a restricted area with knowledge of the character of the place
Both Qianli and Zhang were aware of the warning signage
Both cases involved the taking of photographs throughout the facility
lying to officials prior and post arrest."
While neither Qianli or Zhang faced any sort of espionage charges
Aronberg thinks this could maybe be a new approach for foreign governments
"This is a new front perhaps in espionage where it’s going on in plain sight with civilians
where its Mission Impossible or James Bond
just the useful idiot type of espionage," said Aronberg
Yujing Zhang is scheduled to be sentenced Nov

Yujing Zhang
who represented herself during the trial that began Monday
showed no emotion as the two guilty verdicts were announced in U.S
After more than four hours of deliberation, a jury of 10 women and two men convicted Zhang of lying to a federal agent and gaining access to a restricted building
While she faces a maximum six-year prison term when she is sentenced by federal Judge Roy Altman on Nov
under federal sentencing guidelines she could be released on time served because of the months she has already spent in the Broward County jail
In keeping with her demeanor throughout the trial and in previous hearings
Marshals approached her to lead her out of the courtroom
She said she wanted to keep her legal papers
After calmly resisting their instructions for several minutes
Zhang handed a file folder to her court-appointed lawyers — two defense attorneys she fired but occasionally consulted with when she became overwhelmed by legal issues
such as jury instructions and how to craft a closing statement
Juror Nibaldo Padilla said he sympathized with Zhang
who paid a Chinese businessman $20,000 to fly from Shanghai to West Palm Beach for a chance to meet Trump and members of his family
Zhang went to the exclusive Palm Beach club on March 30 even though text messages showed the businessman had told her that what she described as a “United Nations Chinese-American Friendship event,” featuring members of Trump’s family
Jury foreperson Shelly Hoffman said only: “You heard our verdict.”
Padilla said the jurors examined all of the evidence closely
The text messages that prosecutors used to wrap up their case were particularly damning
Zhang acknowledged that her plans to meet the president had been squashed and had decided to cancel her trip
“Forget it,” she wrote on March 27 to a man she identified only as Charles in a text message translated by an FBI linguist
she paid $2,000 cash to board a flight from Shanghai to West Palm Beach
she moved to The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach
She paid a taxi $89 to take her to Mar-a-Lago even though the cabbie warned her security was tight and she wouldn’t get in
she returned to the club at midday wearing a long evening dress
She told Secret Service agents she wanted to use the club pool
Believing Zhang was related to a member that shared the same last name
She said she was there to attend the friendship event
who testified that she recognized Zhang as an interloper because she was acting “strange” and “weird,” summoned federal agents
They testified that Zhang told them she didn’t want to leave the devices in her hotel room for fear they would get stolen
they discovered she had left behind $8,000
five SIM cards and a device that can be used to detect hidden cameras
Despite her plethora of devices and the “Mar-A-Hari” nickname Zhang earned from the New York Post
no evidence was presented during the trial to indicate the self-described wealthy investment consultant was a spy
Her motivations for sneaking into the club were never explored
The man Zhang said she knew only as Charles is Charles Lee
a Chinese businessman who has links to the Chinese Communist Party
according to reports in Mother Jones and other media outlets
Zhang bought the tour package from the Beijing Peace and Friendly Enterprise Management Co.
Zhang didn’t call a single witness and didn’t testify in her own defense
She struggled to understand the criminal justice process
She also had difficulty deciding whether she wanted to speak in English or through Mandarin interpreters so vacillated back and forth between the two languages
In a closing statement she crafted after talking briefly to her standby attorneys
public defenders Kristy Militello and Robert Adler
“I made a contract to go to Mar-a-Lago to see the president and his family,” she said
All the evidence has shown I am not lying.”
prosecutors stuck with a simple story: Zhang was a liar
“She was bound and determined to get on that property,” Assistant U.S
Zhang isn’t the first person to face charges this year for skirting security at Mar-A-Lago while Trump was visiting
who was visiting his grandparents during the Thanksgiving holiday
youth apologized profusely and was placed on probation by a federal magistrate
The ability of Zhang and Lindblom to bypass tight security at Mar-a-Lago raised questions about federal agents’ ability to protect Trump while he is at the club that he has dubbed the Winter White House
The Secret Service acknowledged that it doesn’t determine who gets into the club
— A Chinese businesswoman has been deported back to China more than two years after being sentenced to eight months in prison for trespassing at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club and lying to Secret Service agents
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers deported Yujing Zhang on Sunday after a "final order of removal from an immigration judge," ICE spokesman Nestor Iglesias told WPTV
Zhang was turned over to immigration officials in December 2019 after serving her sentence
But immigration officials had been holding her at the Glades County Detention Center for three times as long as her prison term
mainly because of deportation delays during the COVID-19 pandemic
Zhang, who was convicted in 2019, filed a petition for habeas corpus last year
writing that she wasn't sure when she was going to be released
WPTV NewsChannel 5 was the first to report on Zhang's charges
"They found a way to get her for more time," Boynton Beach immigration attorney Richard Hujber said
Hujber said it appears a handwritten legal brief from Zhang to federal court in Fort Myers may have finally led to her leaving the U.S
Zhang was seeking $100 million in compensation
alleging mental and physical abuse at the jail and saying there was no legal right to still hold her
so I think the government must have then realized
there was suspicion that Zhang may have been trying to spy at Mar-a-Lago
fueled by her possession of several phones
thumb drives and other equipment that was seized by federal agents
Zhang claimed she was just looking to meet the president and make friends
"Why have they never come out and said what they actually found?" Hujber said of the federal government
Zhang did get back $8,000 in cash that she had with her when she first came to Florida

A Chinese woman with a thumb drive containing malware as well as multiple passports and electronic devices was arrested at The Mar-a-Lago Club on Saturday after she made her way past a security checkpoint, according to a federal criminal complaint.
President Donald Trump was at Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach at the time
according to White House press pool reports
Yujing Zhang appeared in court Monday on charges of unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds and making false statements to federal law enforcement agents
Zhang — who also had two passports
a laptop and a hard drive — told a Secret Service agent her father was a club member and she was visiting the pool, the complaints states
She said club security had allowed her to enter because of "a language barrier," the complaint states.
The on-duty manager said someone with the last name Zhang was a club member
but Secret Service could not confirm that she was a club member
More: The Mar-a-Lago Club was the Winter White House long before Trump took ownership
A golf-cart valet picked up Zhang and asked her where she wanted to go
so the valet dropped her off at the main reception area
They passed three Secret Service agents during the ride and Zhang passed through another Secret Service checkpoint before entering the main reception area
After a receptionist asked Zhang multiple times why she was visiting the club
she said she was attending a United Nations Chinese-American Association event; however
that event didn't exist, the complaint states.
The receptionist determined Zhang wasn't on the club's access list and had her escorted off the property
A Secret Service agent questioned why Zhang was at the club
and she again claimed she was there to attend an event focused on Chinese-American foreign relations
Zhang told agents her friend "Charles" told her to travel from Shanghai to Palm Beach to attend the event and to talk to a member of Trump's family about the economic relationship between U.S
said she and Charles talked exclusively through WeChat
a popular instant messaging platform used in China
but agents were unable to determine who he is
Zhang's detention hearing is scheduled for April 8
The Trump Organization owns the Palm Beach resort.
A Chinese woman who was convicted last week of lying to get into Mar-A-Lago was more interested in President Donald Trump’s real estate riches than his political fortunes
according to text messages released on Thursday
In the messages Yujing Zhang sent hours before she was arrested after skirting U.S
Secret Service agents who were protecting Trump during his visit to his exclusive Palm Beach club
“I was thinking that since Trump himself was in real estate business so that perhaps we could have something to talk about,” the 33-year-old self-described wealthy investment counselor writes a Chinese travel agent who initially arranged her trip
>>Yujing Zhang trial: Chinese woman convicted of lying to get into Mar-a-Lago
“In terms of politics … it’s not like that I really .
really understand much of the struggling relationships among the political dignitaries,” she continues
“We don’t get involved in election or political relations
I — I personally don’t want to get involved in — involved in this situation
While some of the text messages Zhang exchanged with travel agent Charles Lee were read to the jury that convicted her of charges that could send her to prison for six years
Zhang represented herself during the three-day trial and didn’t attempt to explain to the jury why she came to Palm Beach even after Lee told her that the March 30 event at Mar-a-Lago that was to feature Trump’s older sister
>>Yujing Zhang trial: Last witness says Chinese woman offered ticket to event with Clintons
while federal prosecutors used the text messages to prove she knew the event was canceled
she didn’t try to use their claims or challenge their assertions that she was a pathological liar
Because she was carrying an array of electronic devices
five SIM cards and a device to detect hidden cameras
shed little light on why Zhang traveled from Shanghai to Palm Beach
it doesn’t appear that Lee even knew Zhang was in Palm Beach when she was texting him on March 30
Lee assures her that there may be other opportunities to go to an event featuring Trump
The event she had planned to attend was nixed because a week earlier Special Counsel Robert Mueller had sent his report on his investigation into Russian interference to Attorney General William Barr
>>Yujing Zhang trial: Feds say Mar-a-Lago interloper’s plan was to lie; she claims innocence
“But the Trump’s event is cancelled for the time being, mainly because of the Russian investigation,” Lee wrote. “The investigation report says Trump did not involve. Trump now is about to punish and take revenge on those who wrongly accused him, including the media.”
“So, his events are temporarily put on hold for the time being,” Lee continued. “If there are other events that we can go, that .. I will let you know. I will make arrangements. No worries. But this is none right no, none right now. Huh.”
Zhang didn’t respond to Lee’s political analysis. Instead, when he asked her if she is more interested in real estate forums, she responds: “Right. Right Right.”
Other evidence, that was filed in court records on Thursday, includes a copy of the agreement she signed with Lee and her planned itinerary.
For $20,000, Zhang was to receive round-trip airfare from Shanghai to the United States. Her seven-day trip was to feature stops in Palm Beach, Washington, D.C.. and New York City. She was to visit the White House and Capitol Hill in Washington and Wall Street, the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center and the U.S. Stock Exchange while in New York.
As part of the package, she would receive an “Honorary Diploma in Peace,” from the United Nations China, identified as a nonprofit organization. Further, she was to receive a “U.S.-China Friendship Missionary Honorary Certificate,” issued by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development, according to the contract.
The contract was part of the Chinese communist government’s “Belt and Road Initiatives” and “Go Global” efforts to promote China’s role in international infrastructure development and investment.
When she appeared in the lobby of Mar-a-Lago on March 30, she said she was there to attend a “United Nations Friendship Event” between China and the United States, federal agents said. That’s when her cover was blown. No such event was scheduled for that night.
Further, prosecutors said, that wasn’t the story she told to skirt security. She got past the security checkpoints by claiming she was a club member who wanted to use the pool, Secret Service agents said. Believing she was related to a club member named Zhang, Mar-a-Lago managers waved her in. Once inside, however, they realized she didn’t belong and summoned agents.
Despite Lee’s view that the event featuring Trump-Grau was nixed for political reasons, those who organized — and canceled it — said their decision had nothing to do with the Russian investigation.
Instead, organizers of the gala that was to benefit a Palm Beach Gardens children's charity, said they canceled it because they feared it had been hijacked by Wellington resident Cindy Yang. She posted a flier for the event on a website she used to sell travel packages to Chinese nationals interested in meeting Trump or other government officials.
In the texts Zhang exchanged with Lee, she expressed no interest in going to tourist attractions like Disney World. Other than the White House, she said she had no interest in sightseeing in Washington, declaring “there’s nothing worth doing in Washington.”
Instead, she said wanted to meet important people.
“Let's say, after the White House tour, can you organize something like meeting with the legislators on that day, for example. Er, ... some Congresspeople .. . or the Congress,” she wrote. “Have a chat with some of them, or watch their ... or watch their section, something like that. Can you organize an activity like that?”
But, after learning the Mar-a-Lago event was canceled, she expressed little interest in Lee’s suggestion that she attend an event in Detroit, featuring former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, particularly after she learned it was in Detroit.
And, as federal prosecutors pointed out, in the texts Zhang told Lee to cancel her trip. Instead, she paid $2,000 for a plane ticket and booked a a room at the Red Roof Inn for one night and then stayed at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach.
Since her arrest, Zhang has been held at the Broward County jail. She is to be sentenced on charges of lying to a federal agent and gaining access to a restricted building on Nov. 22.

Fla - Authorities have formally charged Yujing Zhang
the Chinese woman arrested at Mar-a-Lago in late March
filing an indictment in federal court Friday
Zhang, 33, faces two counts, one for entering restricted property and one for lying to a federal agent. WPTV first broke the news of her arrest - the charges are the same that were detailed in the initial criminal complaint
Zhang faces up to one year in prison for entering restricted property
She faces up to five years in prison for lying to a Secret Service agent
Zhang was arrested at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday
a hard drive and a thumb drive with malware on it
President Donald Trump was in town staying at Mar-a-Lago that same weekend
A federal prosecutor testified at her bail hearing on April 8 that Secret Services agents found a device to detect hidden cameras while searching her hotel room at the Colony Hotel on Palm Beach
along with an additional nine USB drives and five USB cards
Zhang's bail hearing was continued to next Monday
WPTV NewsChannel 5 will have a crew at her next court appearance and bring updates throughout the hearing

a Chinese national who entered the club carrying four cell phones
has raised another issue: the president’s weekend clubhouse is absolutely ripe for foreign espionage
according to security experts and Mar-a-Lago members alike
the only surprise is that an incident like this hadn’t happened sooner
because profit is Trump’s first priority rather than
required the Secret Service to defer to Mar-a-Lago staffers and allow in some visitors who are not on the list.” Visitors have described instances in which Mar-a-Lago security personnel will make exceptions for people not on the list
“Usually it’s the Mar-a-Lago people that are giving the go-ahead,” a person familiar with the property told the Post
the longtime society columnist for the Palm Beach Daily News who has covered Mar-a-Lago for years
“It’s bound to happen” that people will slip through
“There’s hundreds of people coming and going when there’s an event
and half of them are members—they’re not used to being stopped.”
holding tickets that cost them hundreds or thousands of dollars
these galas largely drew guests from Palm Beach’s pastel-colored social scene
after a decline in that traditional banquet business
the galas are more commonly aimed at Trump’s fervid political fan base
That busy schedule is what Trump wanted for Mar-a-Lago
according to one former senior Trump administration official
Trump did not want Mar-a-Lago to become a place where visitors became uncomfortable
So he kept it as it was—and made his aides uncomfortable instead
“The president has no idea who most of the people around him at the club are,” said another White House official
speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations
who allegedly claimed she had come from Shanghai to attend a “United Nations Friendship Event” that was not actually scheduled
experts say the incident highlights just how insanely lax the security setup is at the club
told the Post it was “very disturbing” for someone “with that shoddy of a story to get by two or three levels of security” at a place where the president could be in attendance
“How in the heck does that happen?” (Anderson added that while he didn’t know if Zhang’s activity was sanctioned by the Chinese government
“there’s no doubt it’s some type of potential intelligence operation.”)
“The Mar-a-Lago club management determines which members and guests are granted access to the property.” (Zhang’s lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.)
“If I’m an intelligence service I’m going to pay the membership fee
get someone with a clean background and have them become a member of the community,” Cohen said
“I’m going to have them bring in guests on a regular basis
I now have close proximity to the president’s staff and maybe even the president himself.” And the risks abound even without crossing paths with the president
“a foreign spy might find Mar-a-Lago a gold mine—even if the spy never laid eyes on Trump
the president has said these fears are overblown and the arrest is much ado about nothing:

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan
the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said
Tainan’s Yujing District (玉井) had recorded the day’s highest temperature of 39.7°C
though the measurement will not be included in Taiwan’s official heat records since Yujing is an automatic rather than manually operated weather station
Highs recorded in other areas were 38.7°C in Kaohsiung’s Neimen District (內門)
38.2°C in Chiayi City and 38.1°C in Pingtung’s Sandimen Township (三地門)

a quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Hualien County at 10:40am yesterday
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries
The epicenter of the temblor was in the Pacific Ocean

Taitung and parts of Nantou and Changhua counties
where it measured a 4 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale
Level 3 shaking was also felt in parts of Taichung
while intensity levels of 2 and 1 were recorded in New Taipei City and Taipei respectively

Overview: Spirit World #6 closes out the story of getting Cassandra Cain back to the living world
This issue also asks some thought-provoking questions about life and legacy
We finally see the backstory of the antagonist of this run
The demon ghost was an artist in the living world by the name of Wan Yujing
and she thought that she could obtain immortality through her verses
She died and was admitted to the spirit world
and that is what our poet has been waiting for
Now we see this demon ghost facing off with Xanthe Zhou
and she believes that the life essences of Xanthe and the others will give her that power
The Jade Court is watching and recounting that this is impossible without them
Constantine and Xanthe attack the General while Cass takes the fight to Yujing
Yujing goes to absorb Cass while Xanthe and Constantine are beaten back by Gilded General
Xanthe is offered a chance to save everyone if they only offer a pledge of fealty to the Jade Court
Xanthe is able to hold the General at bay with what appears to be verdant sorceress magic
and they are able to convince Yujing that with all the soul-absorbing she is doing
she is losing touch with who she really is
Xanthe convinces Yujing to let the souls go
The Jade Court takes this chance to attack Yujing themselves
Xanthe stands up to them and actually agrees to join the Jade Court themself
and Constantine and Cass both return to the living world
Yoshi Yoshitani variant cover for Spirit World #6
There really is not anything different about the art in Spirit World #6 compared to prior issues
With the use of colors and otherworldly line-work
the mystical qualities of the characters and the location are on full display
Being the only non-magical character in this story
is given a magical look with her flowing costume as compared to her usual design
but this story actually shines in the theme; that theme being legacy after death
It is common for various aspects of the deceased to be forgotten in time
we see the living world forgetting Wan Yujing
but we also see Yujing forgetting herself as well
She has absorbed so many souls that she has a hard time remembering who she is
When Xanthe convinces her to release the captive souls
and that is visually depicted in her design
She is shown as human for the first time outside of the flashback we see in the beginning of this issue
As annoying as it was to read this character in the early issues
it is fitting to put this backstory in this issue where the theme is finally revealed
The creators are hoping that the action and magic would capture the readers
so they would stick around for the point of the story
I think it would have been better if this story was released as a graphic novel from the beginning
but I find the art to be more compelling in a collected format even though there are disadvantages to that format as well

– A federal judge has sentenced a Chinese businesswoman to eight months in prison for trespassing at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club and lying to Secret Service agents
Judge Roy Altman also ordered Monday that 33-year-old Yujing Zhang be deported after completing her sentence
She received nearly eight months credit because she has been jailed since her arrest March 30
Altman said it was a “serious offense” to trespass on a government property
Attorney Rolando Garcia argued for an 18-month sentence
saying Zhang “lied to everybody” to get into Mar-a-Lago including Secret Service agents
Garcia also pointed to the electronics found on her person and in her hotel
