The president will sign the spending bill next week
Home page » Topics » Ambassadors » Baryshivka and Pereyaslav as seen by alyona alyona
We are launching a new series
to tell the stories of famous Ukrainians and their hometowns: familiar places seen through the eyes of extraordinary people
rapper Alyona Alyona takes us to two places that are important to her – Baryshivka and Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi
and Baryshivka District Court has become famous for all the wrong reasons
but we’ll be looking at these places from a less familiar angle
Our heroine will be exploring Baryshivka and Pereyaslav with the founder of the Ukraїner project
a mini football pitch with astroturf and outdoor exercise machines
— I’m very happy that my city has facilities like this skate park
because living on a kindergarten teacher’s wage wasn’t so much fun
I started learning photography and I did my first photoshoot here in this park
but the leaves and bushes had been cleared
and there was a space to come here and take pictures of girls playing with the leaves
When I see how the park is being developed
This move fuelled her developing creativity
— I remember this one story — it’s a family story
I remember the escalator — my first ever steps on an escalator… We got on the train
and an Afro-American guy got on at the same time
And my mum realised what would happen next
“Mum…” and she immediately covered my mouth with her hand
He has black skin!” Where could I have seen a black person before
So that was my encounter with the wider world
I was saying hello to everyone on the metro
Everyone says hi to you because you’re our daughter
and you have to reply because they’re adults
on the outskirts of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi
is the Central Naddniprianshchyna Museum of Folk Architecture and Life
The museum depicts everyday life in this particular region of Ukraine
from the Paleolithic Age to the present day
you begin to understand where you got your love for others
That kind of cultural self-identification really helps you to get to know yourself
What’s great about this place is that it’s not so crowded — you feel the space here
I remember when fitness bracelets came into fashion
I honestly can’t remember the number of steps
and saw we’d walked more than we normally do in three days
how long do you have to camp here to see the whole museum
to understand it all?” I don’t know… You feel free here
One of the churches on the museum grounds is home to the Museum of Space
When visitors enter the Church of St Paraskeva
expecting to see a typical church interior
they come face to face with space suits and other gear used by cosmonauts in their ‘peaceful exploration of space’
There is also a Museum of Rushnyks (Ukrainian embroidered cloths – tr.) with a collection of over four hundred rushnyks
and rushnyks woven and embroidered in different ways
You have to remember your roots and know where you come from
and what were the preconditions for the way we are now
Despite the city’s wealth of tourist attractions
the outskirts of Pereyaslav remain unknown to the general public
in the southern part of the Kaniv Reservoir
is the Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi Cruising Yacht Club
It was founded in 1979 on the initiative of engineer Hryhoriy Horbachenko
the club established a tradition of sailing races
I’ve been battling on so long here in Pereyaslav
The Pereyaslav Cup will be held for the 29th time this year
but I’d say it’s only those who know about the event
Alyona Alyona, like many other Ukrainian celebrities, is involved in volunteer work. In fact, Ukraїner also exists thanks to the support of volunteers and donors
Alyona started volunteering long before she became famous
head of the community organisation “U dobri ruky” (“In Good Hands”)
enlisted the support of fellow dog lovers and volunteers; together
they set up a shelter providing post-operative rehabilitation for street dogs
some dogs return to wherever they came from and some find new owners
Other dogs — usually those who narrowly escaped death — reside permanently at the shelter
— Everyone’s been dreaming about an animal shelter
There’s absolutely no doubt that people here care about dogs
we found homes for almost 100 puppies and adult dogs
we have a dog from the school — they called and asked us to take her away and put her down
Because she had sores — it was some kind of disease
some kids came on a school trip from that same school
Alyona introduced us to some of Pereyaslav’s community leaders: committed activists
who for several years have been leading socio-cultural projects with the local youth
One such group is the community organisation Jam Toloka
which continues to provide support to those who love music
— I’ve been involved in social projects for the last six years
and today we have around 20 active residents — members of public organisations
Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi’s music industry began to develop in response to the appearance of more and more local bands
— This city really is an inspiration — it has a unique atmosphere that you can’t find in many places
In Pereyaslav you can keep on developing your creative potential
Alyona Alyona introduced us to someone she considers a true hero: Leonid Khmelkov
former serviceman of the 95th Zhytomyr Airborne Brigade
because — let’s just say I cheated a little
because no one’s going to do anything for us
Involved in the preparation of the material 10 volunteers
Project support: Fundacja Euromaidan-Warszawa

A giant fireball exploding from the side of an apartment building in the hard-hit port of Mariupol was just one of the many disturbing signs of ongoing Russian attacks in Ukraine on Friday
The unceasing violence in cities throughout Ukraine prompted yet more residents to join the 2.5 million who are estimated to already have left the country
two men held tight to the arms of an elderly woman fleeing her home Friday
Wearing a white headscarf with orange and yellow flowers and a flowered blue skirt that was visible under her brown winter coat
she edged forward slowly past an overturned car and destroyed bridge
Some Ukrainians have either decided to stay put or haven’t yet been able to leave
One such elderly woman took shelter in a basement of a home in Irpin that had no heat or running water
She sat on the edge of a bed bundled in a big winter coat and stared out forlornly through the opening of a large gray
a man wearing a blue down coat and winter wool hat bided his time on his cellphone as he lay on a bench next to a table covered with first-aid medicines
Amid the scenes of death and devastation there were hopeful signs of life
A young pregnant woman captured by Associated Press photographers fleeing down a stairwell of a damaged maternity hospital Wednesday gave birth to her baby
she lay on a hospital gurney dressed in polka-dotted pajamas with the newborn cradled in the crook of her arm
Those who fled their hometowns had to leave most of their belongings behind
A young woman fleeing her home in Irpin cried on Friday as she kissed the head of a cat she had wrapped in a blanket
84-year-old Irpin resident Antonina could be seen holding tight to the leashes of her 12 dogs after being evacuated from her home in a wheelchair
AP photographers captured innocent children as they accompanied their frightened relatives on journeys to safety
a pink winter coat and matching pacifier places her hands on the window and peers out from the bus taking her family to neighboring Romania
hugs her grandmother Elena as they wait with others for a train that will take them from one area of Poland to another

“As foreign minister I would like to underline humanitarian aid we provide to the people
It's why the development cooperation agency of Belgium is financing with EUR 150 million a different program related to education and healthcare
we are building now the seventh bomb shelter and we will be able to provide safety to more than 3,000 students and educational staff,” the minister said
speaking to journalists at the construction site of the shelter in the lyceum of the city of Baryshivka
which is financed by the state development agency Enabel
Prévot emphasized that they “are already part of Europe
and in the future also part of the European Union.”
The Belgian government is concerned about the challenges faced by Ukrainian families affected by Russian aggression
beside the investment we made for the bomb shelters for students and school staff
It's one of the priorities of Ukraine’s First Lady
how to reinforce the commitments Belgium has aligned to with the priorities set by the First Lady," the head of the Belgian foreign ministry added
Prévot recalled that Belgium already finances programs to help Ukrainian children: "I will now visit an association
which supports children victims of sexual abuse or exploitation
We will announce that we will give to the association EUR 250,000 additionally in order to be sure that every child can receive the needed support when they face violence
certainly including sexual violence."
Belgium is among the top twenty donor countries per capita
our country has provided more than 2.2 billion euros in aid to Ukraine
150 million euros has been specifically allocated to reconstruction as part of the BE-Relieve programme
The focus is on three strategic areas: sustainable energy and circular construction
in close cooperation with the Ukrainian government
to provide vocational training and job placement
in particular for young people and former military
