Sure, people have strong preferences about the doneness of all kinds of meats. Some prefer their bacon more well-done than others, and we definitely prefer a medium-rare steak if anyone’s asking the correct pork chop temperature has been a hot topic because of the history of pig farming and food safety “In the past, when pigs were often fed food scraps, there was a concern about the pigs becoming infected with parasites,” says James Murray, a professional chef who has worked for the National Pork Board for over 10 years chops and other muscle cuts got overcooked to the point they were dry and flavorless.” If you know how to check pork chop doneness with a meat thermometer your chops will always turn out juicy and tender According to the USDA, the food-safe cooking temperature for whole muscle cuts of pork (like roasts and chops) is 145°F “A chop cooked to that temperature is just a different eating experience,” says Murray There’s nothing better than a pork chop or roast that’s rosy pink in the middle when you cut into it!” Yes, contrary to what we were told as kids, pink pork is safe to eat We’ve learned that color is no longer a definitive marker of doneness or food safety if a medium-rare pork chop isn’t desirable you can cook your pork to a higher level of doneness finishing pork below the USDA-approved pork cooking temperature poses a risk “The USDA determined that any parasites that could contaminate pork die at 138° internal temperature,” says Murray He explains that the three-minute resting period brings the internal temperature up a few degrees reaching that approved 145° mark and ensuring a safe Using an instant-read meat thermometer is the most reliable way to check the temperature of pork chops to ensure they’re perfectly cooked “There’s no substitute for a good digital meat thermometer which can give you an exact internal temperature so there’s no guesswork involved,” says chef Matt Moore author of Butcher on the Block and a cast-iron cooking enthusiast with extensive expertise in cooking over live fire There are several types of thermometers, and the best meat thermometer depends on the cooking method Instant-read thermometer probes are meant to be used toward the end of the cooking process while leave-in thermometers have more durable probes They’re ideal for slower cooking methods like barbecuing or oven-roasting large cuts but they can also be used when baking or grilling thick or double-cut pork chops When it comes to accurately checking the internal temperature of meat Moore says to take the temperature from a few places Insert the thermometer into the center or thickest part of the pork chop and make sure it’s an inch away from any bone Temperatures taken from the meat adjacent to the bone will typically be a bit lower Depending on the size and thickness of your pork chop you may need to take the temperature through the side taking temperatures throughout the process is a good rule of thumb until you become more comfortable with temperature control,” says Moore That’s where leave-in probes come in handy Some models even pair with a phone app via Bluetooth and create alerts to tell you when your meat is ready If you’re checking the temperature on demand we recommend doing so before removing the pork chop from the heat source Measuring the temperature immediately after removal is also fine but you’ll want to return the pork to the heat if the internal temperature doesn’t quite reach the mark The ideal cooking time for pork chops depends on the cooking method and the thickness of the meat Use a meat thermometer to measure for doneness but you can use these guidelines for how long to cook a one-inch thick pork chop on the grill Hitting the safe pork cooking temperature of 145° is a must but resting is just as crucial for safe consumption The resting time (aka standing time) allows for carryover cooking a process that allows the heat from the outer layers to move towards the meat’s innermost layers the final internal temperature will rise by a few degrees resting also improves the texture of the pork chops “That time allows the juices to re-distribute themselves more evenly throughout the muscle,” says Murray and it will deliver the maximum flavor profile and juiciness.” While pork chops and other whole muscle cuts of pork can be cooked to an internal temperature of 145° That’s because most harmful pathogens in pork inhabit the surface of the meat The grinding process creates more surface area exposing more of the meat to potential bacterial contamination Environmental factors like improper cleaning of grinders and poor storage conditions can also increase the risk of contamination The USDA guidelines below reflect the safe temperatures to cook pork, but Murray says they’re not necessarily the ideal temperatures for tenderness, flavor or texture. “For example, if you’re cooking or smoking a pork shoulder for pulled pork you’ll want an internal temperature between 200 and 205° but it’s impossible to tear the muscle apart at that temp!” We are no longer supporting IE (Internet Explorer) as we strive to provide site experiences for browsers that support new web standards and security practices We recommend the cheapest food By the same year the Greater Accra region was home to 91.7% of the urban population in the country Street food caterers in Accra face a number of problems Foreign donors have over the years stepped in to attempt to address these problems. A flagship of this assistance has been a programme funded by Danish trade unions and the Danish Federation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Ghana’s Trades Union Congress was able to support workers in chop bars Drawing on our expertise on trade unions in Ghana and on the informal economy, we assessed the effectiveness and strategic relevance of this aid The aid focused on entrepreneurial skills and micro-credit This overlooks some of the real problems in the sector It leaves wage workers in a precarious position and does nothing to boost demand for what the sector supplies Increased donor attention to workers in the informal economy and trade unions could be seen as a positive trend. After all, this is where the majority of workers in African cities are to be found. Ghana’s official statistical service places the size of the country’s informal sector between 70% and 80% of the working populace in its reports from 2024 close examination of the type of support given Aid focused firstly on capacity building and entrepreneurship This aimed at boosting skills such as financial literacy and capacity to care for customers The programme’s own evaluation highlights the increased confidence that chop bar operators gained through this training increased confidence can do very little to overcome structural challenges like intense competition in an oversupplied sector and the insecurity of land tenure A second area of support was the provision of micro-credit via the Trades Union Congress (Ghana). One could argue that it boosted the creditworthiness of informal economy operators. But there is evidence that credit can often result in a spiral of debt and “poverty finance” Donors chose to focus on small-scale entrepreneurs as the only economic actors in the informal economy understanding of the informal economy as inhabited only by small enterprises and self-employed workers and the challenge as one of making the market work better for the poor This approach by donors neglects informal and highly precarious wage workers within the chop bar sector Our research shows that the chop bar industry is stratified in terms of class there are people who own relatively small-scale capital (cooking assets and in some cases the land and buildings in which the bars are based) and who employ informal wage workers The informal workforce is by and large made up of migrant female workers with relatively low education and skill and face the risk of sudden dismissal and harassment from employers Such poor working conditions stem from the lack of contracts This is the weakest category of workers in the industry – yet they have no place in donors’ and trade unions’ activities to support workers The main limitation of donors’ aid to the chop bar sector is that it focuses exclusively on supply-side interventions. It is based on the idea that improving skills and access to finance will result in increased demand for the services of small-scale entrepreneurs. Many aid programmes on employment make this mistake and suffer from so called “employment dementia” This type of aid doesn’t ask where the stimulus to increase demand for street food will come from or what the structural roots of urban employment challenges are It doesn’t consider why African cities have large informal economies and poor-quality jobs Donors should re-think their aid priorities, and put informal wage workers at their centre. This would entail moving away from the current focus on micro-solutions for job creation and instead supporting policies to promote structural change to tighten labour markets and increase the demand for good-quality jobs within them This article was co-authored with Dr Prince Asafu-Adjaye The owner and chef for a popular Jacksonville catering company and food truck has been identified as the man who was critically injured in the Duval County jail Tuesday has "catastrophic injuries," according to a statement from his lawyer they were "bad enough for me to come out here and tell the public about it." We are now about to listen to the first dispute so you get perfectly distributed ingredients in every bite. I asked the deli guy to make my sub chop chop style and that I would like to have that right now. So I'm in favor of the chop chop sandwich. I think it's the beginning of something extraordinary. I think it's like a billion-dollar idea. [Crew Member] Can I show you what it looks like? [Crew Member] So you chop up everything here and then, so. I'd like to retract. I'd like you to edit that out. It looks repulsive. Just leave it at that. [Defendant 1] You don't ask the deli guy to make a chop chop sub, you just don't. That shit is embarrassing and it looks gross I'm not trying to get blacklisted by my deli. Well, the problem with this particular case is that there's not really enough evidence presented before the court, because where's the deli guy? There's just insufficient evidence for me and I don't know who's running this thing, And in the name of justice, let's get the deli guy here. I've never had a relationship with my deli guy. Oh yes, I slept with my deli guy, if that's what you mean? It was fine if that's what you're talking about, yeah. where I do a deep dive into the world of calligraphy and I asked my girlfriend what she thought of the most recent episode about traditional dip pens, but I never recorded an episode like that. I don't think she's been listening to my podcast at all. Please don't make a podcast about calligraphy. I think it's a mistake, only because... And I'm all in favor of calligraphy, okay? I'm not anti-calligraphy, but it's a visual medium, And I'm really frankly ready to pass judgment, we'll listen to the other witness, whatev. but I don't find it to be the most stimulating topic. but I don't think I should be expected I don't think she needs to be expected to listen to every episode or any episode for that matter. And I don't like that he was tricking her. I think this couple is perfectly suited for one another. They're living the lie and it's working for them. So I'm all in favor of them staying together, [Plaintiff 3] I'm engaged to the best guy, and we're thinking about combining our finances. I just found out that he has an OnlyFans subscription to a specific woman that he claims is non-sexual. but he's being kind of weird about it. Number one, they're engaged. Problem. So we've got three big fat fucking problems. Let's hear what this douchebag has to say. [Defendant 3] Right, so I've been chatting with this model on OnlyFans for like four years, and I'm not ready to give up the relationship. and I'm helping her pay for grad school. He needs to get engaged to the OnlyFans model, combine his finances with her. [cash register ka-chings] He'll get a free subscription to his OnlyFans thing. And this nice disturbed woman from the beginning that means she's paying for the OnlyFans site. He needs to go with this model, live your sad life. and improve herself dramatically by doing so. [Plaintiff 4] I was talking to my friend about Titanic I'm sorry, but how do you even not know A lot of these cases that have been brought [Defendant 4] I hate it when movies are spoiled for me, I think that my friends should be sensitive to the fact and there's so many other movies that are classics that have been around for decades and decades and decades, [fingers snapping] keep up with the times, stay present, go to the movies, support films. of the first plaintiff, if we're gonna call them that. with her saying anything about Titanic, anything. Let me explain to you about spoiler alerts with Marvel. If I tell you anything about Thunderbolts right now, someone's gonna kill me. [close-up thumps] You think I'm joking? I'm not joking. and they make sure that I don't say nothin'. Remember that cereal commercial for Honey Nut Cheerios? Nut and honey. I suggested maybe he should go to therapy, Take the compliment, smokin' hot mama. to suggest your son goes to therapy off of a single. Let's hear what the musician has to say. She always thinks that everything is about her. I just happen to appreciate nurturing, older women, I don't think he should tell his mother I think he should say, Mom, it's about you. You're smokin' hot. You're beautiful. except that I like to nurture older smokin' hot women. And so now, I'm changing my judgment. I think he needs to institutionalize himself, we can't be doing mental health jokes on this program. I think she should stop listening to his music, I mean, I'm sorry I have to send all these people to prison, Ultimately, I'm a civil servant and I'm here to do my job. and we'll see where I go with my career. federal grant that was awarded to help pay for the reconstruction of the East Chop bluff in Oak Bluffs may be in jeopardy Oak Bluffs assistant town administrator Wendy Brough told the select board Tuesday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant, awarded to the town in 2022 similar to the $90 million in federal grants the Trump Administration cancelled in Massachusetts communities earlier this month “I’ve been reaching out to our local representative and senators office to see how they can help,” she said they’ll share it with us.”  The town currently has close to $17 million secured for the project The project is expected to cost about $33 million.  town officials are exploring other funding avenues to bridge in the financial gap for the project The town has been working with the state’s Federal Funds and Infrastructure Office (FFIO) Maura Healey that tracks possible federal funding avenues for projects The 2,400 feet of coastline of the bluff has been eroding for years with much of East Chop Drive having been closed to motor vehicles since 2018.  Plans for the project were greenlit by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission earlier this year with money approved by town voters aiding the $10 million to fund the first phase of the project The project was scheduled to begin this coming fall and construction was expected to last about 15 months.  The FEMA grant would also cover all the infrastructural changes needed for the reconstruction of the bluffs, which include a temporary pier The grant is from FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and connected to another measles case in Montgomery County nor to a widespread outbreak in West Texas A patient who recently visited the emergency department and an outpatient clinic at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has been diagnosed with measles Philadelphia health officials said Wednesday urging those who visited locations where the patient was treated to make sure they have vaccine protections against the virus The age of the patient with the Philadelphia area’s latest measles case was not disclosed “We believe there is no threat to the general public associated with this case of measles,” city Health Commissioner Palak Raval-Nelson said in a statement Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads through respiratory droplets from an infected person and can linger in the air for up to two hours even if an infected person has left the area The city health department said exposures could have occurred at the following locations: The South Philadelphia Health and Literacy Center at 1700 S This building houses CHOP’s Pediatric Primary Care South Philadelphia There were no potential exposures in the library CHOP’s emergency department at 3401 Civic Center Blvd “As vaccination rates across the country continue to drop there are more and more opportunities for people who cannot be vaccinated to be exposed to this deadly disease That’s why it is critical for everyone who needs to be protected from measles to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” Raval-Nelson said People immune to measles who visited those locations do not have to do anything The MMR vaccine is 97% effective with two doses Those who are not protected from the virus and visited the CHOP ER on Monday during the potential exposure should get a dose of the MMR vaccine before Thursday Those who do not get an MMR vaccine before Thursday should stay home for 21 days People without immunity who visited the South Philadelphia Health and Literacy Center on Friday should call their doctors and stay at home until March 27 Those at the center on Saturday must stay home until March 28 The department asked people to call their doctors if they develop symptoms Parents should contact their doctors if they took a child under a year old to one of the exposure locations So should anyone who is pregnant and not immune or who has a weakened immune system People who develop any measles symptoms through March 31 should call their doctor immediately and tell the doctor before visiting the office that they may have been exposed to measles Symptomatic patients should also notify the symptoms that might indicate the presence of the virus Patients with a recent measles exposure should be placed in an airborne infection isolation room A city health department spokesperson said that the patient with measles had not presented with “classic measles symptoms” on the first two visits to the CHOP outpatient clinic “It was not until [their visit to the CHOP ER on Monday] that classic symptoms appeared and the diagnosis was made,” the spokesperson wrote in an email CHOP officials did not immediately return a call for comment they wrote that the “vast majority” of the hospital’s workforce is protected against the measles by either natural or vaccine-induced immunity The city health department said that citywide MMR vaccine coverage is also high About 97% of seventh- and 12th-grade students and 94.5% of kindergarten students in the city were vaccinated against measles during the 2023-24 school year State health officials recommend that 95% of people be vaccinated against measles in order to protect residents who are immunocompromised or too young to be vaccinated which keeps track of vaccines given in the city Editor’s note: This story has been updated with Changes to the plans necessitated the town come back to the commission Much of East Chop Drive has been closed to motor vehicles since 2018 due to fears that erosion could make the roadway permanently impassable The first phase of the multi-year bluff reinforcement project is expected to begin this fall with construction taking place between Labor Day and Memorial Day for an estimated 15 months overall A $10 million Federal Emergency Management Agency grant and other money approved by Oak Bluffs voters will fund this phase covering the southernmost 1,200 linear feet of coastline as far as Harrison avenue The initial funding also will pay for the infrastructure changes needed for all 2,400 feet of bluff reconstruction including a temporary pier at the base of the bluff project manager Daniel Ciaramicoli of contractor Tighe & Bond told commissioners that his company had discovered “significant constructability and safety issues” with the 2018 plans for stabilizing the bluff The new plans introduced the temporary pier where equipment and materials will arrive by barges that also will remove debris lessening the project’s impact on truck and ferry traffic If the town is not able to raise enough funding for the second phase of bluff work by the time phase one is completed The commission’s approval rests on a number of other conditions as well including a prohibition against artificial lighting at the construction site apart from navigation safety lights on the pier The town also must submit a landscaping plan for revegetating the bluff after construction the Martha’s Vineyard Commission opened two public hearings each of which was continued to a future date Commissioners heard testimony on an application to demolish and replace a house in Vineyard Haven that is evidently older than 1930 Any demolition of an Island building 100 years or older requires Martha’s Vineyard Commission approval According to the Tisbury Historical Commission, the secluded cottage on Massasoit avenue dates from before the 1920s and was moved to West Chop from its original home on Lambert’s Cove But the historical commission stopped short of taking a position on whether or not the house should be preserved Martha’s Vineyard Commission coordinator Rich Saltzberg told commissioners Thursday the group wrote a letter offering reasons both for and against a demolition approval The historical commission’s main argument for preserving the house was that it holds a connection to the historic Red Lodge property The fact that the house itself is not distinctive should not doom its preservation “We cannot preserve the historic fabric of the Island if we only save the large and the prominent,” the historical commission wrote the letter noted that the house arrived in West Chop after the neighborhood had already developed and is architecturally different from others in the area who reviewed the building for the Martha’s Vineyard Commission also found little of significance in the architecture begin as a mid-18th to early-19th century Cape it has been altered from this original form beyond recognition,” Mr this house does not possess historical significance worthy of public interest,” he added later in the report Hearing officer Brian Smith continued the public hearing for two weeks to allow commissioners to visit the property A hearing on builder Millers Professionals’ application for new storage buildings at the airport business park also was continued Owner Ubaldo Miller is seeking to erect two 7,300-square-foot metal warehouses and a 7,000-square-foot office building on a lot at 3 South Line Road in Edgartown would store equipment and materials but not swimming pool shells Saltzberg said as he outlined the application Miller told commissioners there would be no manufacturing or fabrication inside the warehouses which he wants to use for materials currently stored outside at another lot in the business park Commissioners said they want to visit the site before continuing the public hearing Share on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInORANGEBURG (WIS) - The researchers recently published their findings in the journal Pediatrics They started this pilot with a corporate grant, and are now looking to internal and external grants, as well as government programs to keep it going in the long run, said Abbe Stern This is something other hospitals are also thinking about, said pediatrician and researcher Dr. Zoe Bouchelle who was part of the research but is now at Denver Health “This type of work needs to be multi-pronged, multi-level, and happening across hospitals, communities, states, [and] the nation, because it’s unacceptable for kids not to be able to have access to the food they need, to grow and learn and live their lives and become healthy adults,” Bouchelle said “What’s really great … about what the authors of this recent study did is they really took it one step further and are actually delivering food to the families because that kind of helps eliminate one additional barrier,” she said “It also helps eliminate a lot of the stigma as well … a lot of people might not want to sign up if they have to go to a public place to get the food.” Banach said doctors who treat children can see firsthand how access to food can impact their health, which motivates them to get involved. it’s not … a typical function of a hospital to be in the business of distributing food It just sometimes is a necessary function of a hospital,” she said Restoration of East Chop Bluff in Oak Bluffs will finally begin The Martha’s Vineyard Commission unanimously voted to approve modifications to the town project during a Thursday night meeting Commissioners deemed the $17 million project will overall benefit the community and environment by protecting nearby residences’ from climate change impacts like storms improving stormwater management around the area Tisbury Commissioner Ben Robinson argued that despite the overall benefits the project was protecting human-made structures rather than preserving the natural environment “We’re not doing it for the benefit of the environment we’re doing it for the benefit of the built environment that we have,” Robinson said referring to the public roadway and nearby houses The work is being done on 2,400 feet of coastline along East Chop Drive A 40,000-square-foot revetment at the site will be expanded to be 77,650 square feet which would prevent the shoreline from advancing toward the nearby residences a public walkway to the shoreline — compliant with federal disability laws — was proposed The project will also feature a temporary pier and construction roadway while the work is being done Brough said the restoration project is expected to begin at the end of 2025. Ok so what if anything happens to the road? Is it going to reopen? If not then dump this project and save the money The MV Times comment policy requires first and last name for all comments.
