Afrobeats sensation ADEOLUWA was born in Nigeria and is now based in Saskatchewan, SK. The skilled artist now shares a new Afropop banger called “Fe Mi”, which translated from Yoruba to English means “Love Me”. In addition, this song is part of the artist’s most recent EP “For The Fourth”, that has taken the artist to new heights as he has presented it live in his recent Canadian tour.
If one could explain this song in one sentence, it essentially reflects the need to reconnect with African roots and culture. As ADEOLUWA puts it: “I wanted to create a song that resonated with the timeless rhythms and melodies of classic Afrobeats, a nod to the pioneers who laid the foundation. It’s a love letter to the sounds that shaped my musical identity”.
A hopeful but nostalgic melody set the start of this track, which aims to capture love in its purest form through the lyrics in the chorus, sang in Yoruba:
For ADEOLUWA, creating “Fe Mi” was not only an inner journey into his heart, mind and emotions, but also a reflection of what Afrobeats means to him: “It’s more than a genre; it’s a cultural heartbeat.”
Yoruba is one of the three main languages of West Africa, specifically Nigeria. In the present day, there are approximately 50 million people in the world who speak it, making it one of the most widely spoken African languages outside of the continent. Crafting some of the song’s lyrics in one of his native languages definitely reinforces the cultural element.
Like a painting, each element of the song – the piano, synths, afro drums and vocals – add an organic and genuine feel to it, staying true to the genre’s essence. As the track evolves second by second, the key changes and the chorus voices towards the end of the song create diverse sound dimensions, giving it a Gospel feel.
As an up-and-coming Afropop star, ADEOLUWA’s career continues to grow unceasingly. Some of the top milestones of his music journey include earning five nominations from the SaskMusic Awards, as well as attracting the attention of media outlets like CBC, Pulse Music Journal, Range Magazine and The Native Mag, among others. Digital music platforms have also recognized the artist’s talent, featuring him in official Spotify editorial playlists.
There is something truly magical and captivating about his project, where the blend of lyrics, melody and atmosphere generate a good-vibe romantic mood in those who listen. Not to mention, it is a tribute to African culture, as the artist states: “I wanted ‘Fe Mi’ to feel timeless, like a song that could have been played decades ago but still feels relevant today. It’s about capturing that enduring quality of true Afrobeats.”
“Fe Mi”, and the full EP “For The Fourth”, are now available on all streaming services.

Milove, Ukraine – A smartly-dressed young man walks down a footbridge over a village high street clutching a black laptop bag. Just several steps earlier, above the ground, Maxym Brus – a 20-year-old Ukrainian student – was in a different country, Russia
The soft-spoken mechanical engineering student struggles to explain the paradox of his village
Milove is a good visualisation of Ukraine’s current situation. Just like Ukraine
it is torn into two pieces by the weight of its historical past
Following years of animosity between Moscow and Kiev
Russia – Ukraine’s historical master – erected a border fence along Milove’s high street that ironically still carries its Soviet name: Friendship of Nations Road
Ukraine and Russia were part of the same country
There were no borders between the Soviet states
and the administrative-dividing line that Milove sat on did not matter at the time
Milove residents continued their intertwined borderless lives
But the situation changed drastically because of the conflict that erupted between Kiev and Moscow following the removal of Ukraine’s Russia-backed leader
Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula and backed armed separatists in the country’s southeastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk
The ongoing conflict has killed more than 13,000 people
Russia’s move in Milove split families and friends
people started to close up shops and move away,” Brus tells Al Jazeera
“We used to go over there [on the Russian side] to the shops
who is studying in Russia at the Road Institute of Shakhty
a branch of the South-Russian State Polytechnic University
just like each Milove resident Al Jazeera spoke
“Nobody [on the Russian side] knows why this [the fence] came
If the Russian public had a vote on the fence
they would have rejected the project,” he says
a vendor that sells various knick-knacks at a street market in Milove
misses the time when both sides of the borderline used to enjoy festivities together
There were concerts and musicians used to come from all over
We used to have joint festivities in October
Nobody cared you were Russian or not,” she says
“We [Ukrainians with Milove residency] are so far being allowed to cross over
But our friends and family from the Russian side need a travel passport and an invitation to visit.”
She says the village people find it hard to afford a passport
“Each visit must be marked in the passport
Soon you run out of them and you need a new one
Is it normal to need an invitation to visit a sister?”
a street vendor selling animal feed just across the fence
does not shy away from blaming Kiev for Milove’s woes
According to him, the village is paying the price for Ukraine’s aspiration to forge closer ties with the European Union and the rejection of Russia
damn it,” he says angrily and starts to pace around in the muddy path that is supposed to be pavement
there is no perspective for improvement and probably there will be none with our president
Maybe if they choose a different one [president]
Ukraine’s presidential elections are scheduled for March 31 with a record number of candidates vying to become the war-torn country’s sixth president
President Petro Poroshenko is trailing in third behind opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko and the frontrunner
Political novice Zelensky’s stronghold is Ukraine’s Russian-speaking areas such as Milove
Many residents of Milove are wary of naming the candidate they intend to vote for
but all of those who choose to share the information with Al Jazeera support Zelensky
who works in a campaign booth for Poroshenko distributing election material every day
says he will not vote for the current president
Does it seem like something was done for the town over the last five years?” he says
says: “I am not sure who to vote for but I will for sure not give my support to Poroshenko
who might have to commute back from Russia especially to cast his ballot on Sunday
says he will also risk giving power to the inexperienced candidate rather than support the top two corruption-tainted political heavyweights
“It’s my first time so I guess I will go and vote
since I don’t even want to think about Poroshenko

Fifteen-year-old Owen Milove was nervous when he and an instructional pilot took off for his first training flight about two weeks ago
and once we got in the air if anything went wrong he would take over," said Owen
Owen is a participant in the Aerospace Academy at Bonita Springs High
The four-year program teaches students the basics about aviation and gives them a chance to get a private pilot's license. Owen is trying to earn his license
"You know it's better than getting your driver's license
right?" said Todd Callahan,Bonita Springs High's aerospace teacher
The students in the program also can try to get a drone pilot certificate
Callahan said Bonita Springs High is offering the program in an effort to get students interested careers in the aerospace industry
He said the industry has a high demand for workers
ranging from pilots to air traffic controllers
The students also get the opportunity to get pilot training at airfields
It can cost $6,000 to $8,000 to get a private pilot's license, Callahan said
He said the aerospace club fundraises to help students interested in getting the license
Owen said one of the reasons he decided to enroll in the aerospace program is because it may help him decide which of his career goals to pursue.
"I have two jobs I want to do in the future
Lee County schools: Students learn to power mini go-karts, use 3D printers
Bonita Springs High sophomore Hannah Avinon
said she is participating in the program for the same reason — to be a commercial pilot
"So when I was younger I wanted to be a pilot
but I never knew it was achievable because I never saw any programs like this," she said
But becoming a commercial pilot is not the goal of all the students in the academy
"I just want to get my private pilot license and be able to fly when I want to and be able to buy a plane and take my family flying and friends," sophomore Andrew Noel
The program involves classroom time and hands-on experience
Its students can earn college credits
The first year of the program is an introduction into aerospace
The second year is learning the principles of aviation
Students will go through private pilot ground training the following year. The fourth year of the program still is being developed
FGCU: Researchers study everything from golf swings to cancer treatments
Fourteen students took part in one of the program's classes Thursday
answering questions from Callahan about flying
When they finished answering the questions
the students went to an adjacent room where they sat at flight simulators that included large slightly curved computer screens
"These simulators help us prepare a lot," Owen said
"It's basically just like the real thing."
Flying a droneThe last part of the class was spent with most of the students flying microdrones
They practiced everything from taking off and landing to rotating left and right
said flying the drones can help the students prepare for flying a plane
"A lot of the aerodynamics are the same and general concepts
but how you control the movement is different," he said
Lee County schools: Teachers ditching desks for yoga balls, wobble stools
Hannah flew a drone that was much larger than the ones her classmates used
the drone's four sets of propellers started to spin
"It's kind of just like driving the little remote-control cars," Hannah said
Ukraine (AP) — Valentina Boldyreva stepped out of her two-story house on an overcast and snowy Sunday afternoon to say hello to her 76-year-old sister who lives on the other side of Friendship of People's Street
"You see my sister is walking up to the wire," Boldyreva said
"How are we going to talk to each other?"
"I'm not allowed to come close," her sister
said as she stood just 100 meters (yards) away on the other side of the fence
"Our windows are facing the barbed wire day and night as if looking out at a prison," Boldyreva said
It's a border fence built by Russia earlier this year
marking what was once an invisible border in a symbolic shutdown of nearly all ties between the two neighboring nations
It's a slogan that still rings true for many residents but it is being sorely tested by the animosity between their two nations
almost every resident of Chertkovo and Milove has close relatives on the other side
People speak both Russian and Ukrainian without turning the choice of language into a political statement as many have elsewhere
one of many thorny issues fueling the conflict between Ukraine and Russia since Moscow annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in March 2014
residents would routinely cross the street — back and forth between countries — as border guards looked the other way
Russian border guards on one side and Ukrainian ones on the other patrol in twos or threes along the nearly deserted street
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced that all Russian men aged 16 to 60 were barred from entering the country
It was the latest sign of the steadily deteriorating relations between the two uneasy neighbors after the Russian coast guard fired upon and seized three Ukrainian naval vessels in the Black Sea last weekend
Kiev announced 30 days of martial law in the country's border regions to bolster Ukraine's defenses against Russian aggression
restrictions on Russians entering Ukraine had already effectively existed in Chertkovo for years
Ukraine adopted a decree requiring Russians who want to cross the border to use foreign travel passports
Few Russians living in rural areas like Chertkovo have such documents
Four and a half years after fighting broke out between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian troops in eastern Ukraine
only elderly women like 73-year-old Lidia Radchenko — smiling in a bulky fur coat — brave the crossing
while another son and a daughter reside in Russia
We would gather in the middle of the road," Rachenko said wistfully
"That fence is like a concentration camp."
Even passing a jar of pickles to relatives across the barbed wire fence separating the two sides is a punishable offense
Most of the Russians who spoke to The Associated Press said they stopped crossing into Ukraine soon after the 2014 war broke out as reports spread of their countrymen running into trouble on the other side of the border
Sitting in his hardware store in Chertkovo
59-year-old Alexander Petukhov said he was spooked by the reports of people who were either turned back or deported after crossing
He has since cut his business ties with his main supplier in Kharkiv
"We were used to living as free people," he said
"It all stopped when the fighting began."
where the line of cars would stretch for a mile before the war
The no man's land between the Russian and the Ukrainian border posts still bears the Soviet-era slogan: "Let the eternal friendship between the Russian and the Ukrainian nations last for centuries!"
the Ukrainian side of Friendship of Peoples Street was filled with vendors selling everything from eggs to fur coats
their wares laid out on plastic folding tables
Once a bustling meeting place for residents of both sides
the market now only serves Ukrainian shoppers because Russians are either banned or reluctant to come
Many wistfully recalled a time when people from both sides mixed freely
"Chertkovo and Milove — I only found out in the seventh grade
that these were the Russia and the Ukrainian Soviet republics," said Serhiy Harbuz
shopping for milk and chicken in the market
a Russian border guard could be seen patrolling along the barbed-wire fence less than 100 meters (yards) away
The once-bustling crossing between Milove and Chertkovo was nearly empty
with just a few people walking from Ukraine into Russia
among them 54-year-old Olga Yevgenyevna and her husband
When she married a man from a village on the Ukrainian side of the border
moving there in the late 1980s did not seem like a dramatic decision
Now her elderly mother and brother live in Russia and can't visit her
no one will come to bury me because Russians are not allowed," she said
Associated Press writer Matthew Bodner in Moscow contributed to this report
This version corrects the spelling of Ukrainian village to Milove

Milove Fontaine’s bubbly spirit and captivating smile could light up a room
and perhaps a little angry to say the least
has been bottling her pain for over three years because she has never received the prize that motivated her to enter the pageant in the first place
The winner of the pageant was promised they would walk away with a scholarship
“I always had plans to further my studies and
I heard about the pageant and figured that this was my chance to get my studies paid for and to get a laptop to facilitate my tertiary education,” she told Observer
the show was organised by local politician and businessman Colin James but it’s now in the hands of new management
While the current organisers have apologised to Fontaine for her three years-plus ordeal
they made it clear that they will not be able to take on past responsibilities
“Because I knew I had the scholarship to receive I enrolled at UWI Five Islands
It has always been my dream to become a nurse
“I told him I got in and he said I should send him the invoice and he would go to UWI and settle
She said the last excuse that she received from James was that he would arrange payments by salary deductions instead
“I have been going to the office every day ever since – and nothing
he said he couldn’t get in contact with the people at UWI,” Fontaine said
The 31-year-old is currently studying Human Resources at UWI Five Islands but it has always been her dream to study nursing
She is currently working at a fast-food franchise in order to pay her tuition at UWI
She has not yet been able to save enough to purchase a laptop and relies on her cousin’s barely functioning device to get through her assignments
“I don’t think I will ever receive those prizes and it is something I just have to come to terms with … life goes on,” she said
he said he was preparing a statement on the matter

Aidan O’Mahony on Dancing With The Stars with his dance partner Valeria Milove
Eugene MastersonSunday WorldMon 30 Jan 2023 at 11:40Kerry GAA legend Aidan O’Mahony has again opened up about how he had to seek help after a mental health crisis
who also lit up TV screens when he won Dancing With The Stars in 2017
who is married with two children and works as a garda in Tralee
recalls becoming very depressed after a series of incidents
The first centred on allegations he over-dramatised a slap in the face he got during a game in 2008
which resulted in his opponent being sent off
O’Mahony was working as a garda in Cork city at the time and admits he suffered a huge backlash from the general public there
He had previously been at the centre of an initial doping scandal
when a banned steroid was found in his system – but he was later exempted as the substance is found in asthma inhalers
“When you’re an asthmatic all your life and you’re going through hoops trying to make it in the sport and you finally get there and it comes back to bite you then being an asthmatic,” he recalls in TG4 documentary Laochra Gael
“Going into work and trying to explain yourself
that it was an inhaler and you’re having to write an email to send up through the channels
The Rathmore man also suffered from depression after being left out of several games by Kerry
“My life was like a routine where there was no enjoyment
I wasn’t a nice person to be around at the time
He remembered driving in his car and breaking down in tears
“I was at home and just in a dark place and my family had seen it,” he recollects
“They had probably seen it in the years and months coming up to it
sitting at home at the breakfast table with my parents.
“It was like the moment I realised I needed help
and she is always very close to me and she knew I needed a lot of help
Everything that happened externally over the years had crept in and I had a decision whether I wanted to go down a dark path or go and get help about it.”
Nora drove Aidan to the Aiséirí rehabilitation centre for treatment
“I went on that journey to Aiséirí and I didn’t look back,” he says
He adds that he has since become a mental health advocate and finds gym and physical fitness helps him
“I was very fortunate to have a loving family
who were able to see a person in a broken state,” he notes
“That helping hand was given to me and I took it.”
Fellow Kerry great Kieran Donaghy praises Aidan for addressing his situation
“I went up to visit him at one stage with a few of the other players
That was the first time we would have said ‘this is far more than we thought’
Aidan explains he was not able to deal with things but during eight weeks of treatment he realised what was good about life

He earned the money to do this by helping his father on his farm
And after the sow had 12 piglets that same year
he was convinced that he was destined to be a farmer
he was helping his father with the goats and pigs before school in the mornings and would hurry home in the evenings to help him lead the animals back to their pens
Having received his start with his first sow
now operates a five-acre farm with his father on Diamond Road in Waterhouse
Beacon excitedly showed the STAR team around his farm
Beacon told THE STAR that managing such a large farm is no easy task
"Mi get up all 5 o'clock and come search the cow pen and see if no young baby bawn
And den mi go goat pen go do the same thing

Beacon is convinced that his experience underscores the fact that the potential for farming in inner-city communities is great
He said that he has sought to encourage youths like himself to get involved
"Mi always a tell dem fi come inna farming because dem always deh yah wid mi
Beacon appears to have no difficulty getting market for his produce
"Sometime different people come and will order a hundred pound [of beef]
But wi kill and stamp at the slaughterhouse
A $350 to $450 a pound fi goat and $250 a pound fi beef," he said
He added that he sells the callaloo to market vendors
But the profits he enjoys are not without sacrifices

And there's also the impending loss of the land they now farm on
Beacon said it's owned by a Chinese company
but he has been informed that it has since been sold
