Before the full-scale war, the man played and sang in a local band. The man was awarded the commemorative medal “For the Defense of the Hero City of Kharkiv” and the badge “Shield of the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (13.04.23). On March 16, Andriy joined the 127th Brigade of the Kharkiv Tank Corps as a combat medic. In September last year, the man participated in the de-occupation of the village of Velyki Prokhody. For the last month of his life, Andriy saved the soldiers’ lives in Bakhmut as a combat medic. He evacuated, provided first aid, and operated on the injured if necessary. In one day, the man saved 8 people, for which he was promoted to lieutenant. “He was a kind, bright, cheerful man: not a day went by without Andriy telling a joke. It always seemed to us that we would be together until we were old and would survive everything. He always supported me. You know, if there is unconditional love in the world, then Andriy loved me with exactly that kind of love,” said Tetiana Melnyk, the wife of the fallen officer. His colleagues, friends and fellow villagers came to say goodbye to Andriy. The production of space technology is the pinnacle of world engineering since the construction of aircraft and launch vehicles requires tremendously strict requirements for operation reliability under extreme temperatures This  is the reason why designs for space technology are so sophisticated and involve so much duplication of systems require the use of high-strength and highly durable materials and employ such  advanced electronic equipment and specific software Ukraine is not only capable of producing world-class space technology now but also has great prospects for further development in the industry So let's take a look at the key enterprises that form Ukraine's space industry The tandem of the Pivdenne Design Bureau and the Pivdenmash plant in Dnipro remains at the forefront of Ukrainian space they mostly designed and produced intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) for the Soviet nuclear forces the difference between ICBMs designed to destroy objects and boost rockets launching cargo into space is quite substantial: a series of Cyclone launch vehicles manufactured by Pivdenmash is a modification of its R-36 intercontinental missile The reliability of the products of the Dnipro rocket builders is evidenced by the fact that during the first modification of the Cyclone-2 launch vehicle all 106 test launches carried out were successful This launch vehicle is the only one in the world with a similar record designed to be launched from a spaceport Nova Scotia on Canada's Atlantic coast Its construction and deployment is being managed by Maritime Launch Services together with the Ukrainian companies Hartron-ARKOS have developed and started producing the basic design of the first stage of the Antares launch vehicle commissioned by America's Northrop Grumman Corporation A rather promising development in the Ukrainian space industry is the so-called "Air Launch" technology developed by Pivdenmash — a system for launching microsatellites into orbit with a solid-fuel engine from a transport aircraft in flight The Italian company Italspazio and the British Orbit Boy are also involved in this project It should be noted that Pivdenne also has a bureau which designs rocket engines known as DB-4 which are now in demand by foreign rocket manufacturers include first and foremost the RD-843 engine (Attitude and Vernier Upper Module) of the Vega light rocket The bureau has also participated in the development of engines for the Chinese Long March family of rockets whose power units are based on the RD-120 Lox/kerosene engine which was used in the second stage of Pivdenmash Zenith rockets The Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) has also benefited from the Ukrainian space titan's work: a number of units and systems for the KSLV family of rockets created under Korea's national space program The Dnipro Space Cluster also includes the Pavlograd Chemical Plant which specializes in the production of jet fuels includes a specialized research institute that designs various types of rocket fuels along with conducting research for the development of jet engines and spacecraft of the Soviet and post-Soviet eras were designed and manufactured by the Kharkiv-based companies Hartron They produce launch vehicles including the Dnipro and Cyclone—3 Several enterprises which covered almost the entire production cycle of launch vehicles during Soviet times are no longer self-sufficient today Analyzing global trends in space technology we see that modern models are not created by individual firms but are rather the product of broad cooperation due to fierce competition for quality it engenders Space industry manufacturing have brought in lots of foreign companies as was the case with the Antares launch vehicle cannot compete on the same level as space rocket giants like America's Space X our products may well occupy certain niche positions even in the American market for technical solutions for budget space systems we can work confidently with ambitious countries that are trying to implement national space programs the Turkish companies Roketsan and Turkish Aerospace Industries are interested in using Ukrainian parts in their space projects When it comes to building rocket engines themselves cooperation with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has been mutually beneficial it is not only the production of hardware that makes Ukraine a space nation The operation of spacecraft requires developed terrestrial infrastructure for space observation and the control and processing of information received from orbit These functions are assigned to the National Space Surveillance and Analysis System and the Center for the Reception and Processing of Special Information and Navigation Field Control The latter includes the PS-8.2 station for receiving and processing information which carries out reception and processing of information from remote sensors of the Earth Yet wouldn't be possible without the development of a unique piece of equipment It is a long-range radar for radio monitoring of objects in outer space which was developed by the Arsenal factory in Kyiv plant and which was commissioned by the State Space Agency of Ukraine The Zbruch station is part of the National Center for Space Management and Testing and is designed to detect both artificial objects and space debris in Earth orbit The computing component of the radar can calculate the trajectory of falling fragments and thus predict whether they pose a threat to people or infrastructure Zbruch has helped to catalog more than 12,000 space objects so that their trajectories can be monitored the Ukrainian space industry has its problems Many competencies from Soviet days have atrophied and inefficient government structures have proven a hindrance to further development of Ukraine's aerospace sector Ukraine This is primarily due to the state's monopoly over the space industry — for a long time Article 4 of the Law on Entrepreneurship declared that activities related to the creation of rocket carriers can be carried out exclusively by state-owned companies It should be noted that a significant part of the funds planned to be raised for the development of Ukraine's space industry must come from investors are usually quite hesitant to invest in government agencies a branch of the American private aerospace company Firefly Aerospace is already operating in Ukraine They run the experimental production of rocket components and their laboratory testing out of Dnipro where the company's R&D center is also located The research center of the British space firm Skyrora There is some progress in the development of Ukrainian non-governmental organizations specializing in the development of jet engine technologies Another enterprise related to the space industry is the Scientific and Education Center (SEC) "Aerospace Center" of the National Aviation University of Ukraine the SEC has pursued close cooperation with other space organizations including the Pivdenne Design Bureau and the National Space Management and Testing Center as well as with  private space industry enterprises and startups Some of the SEC's most interesting ongoing projects include: "Aeneas" — a robot designed to penetrate the lava tubes on the surface of the Moon or other planets It is a truncated icosahedron with solid-fuel pulse engines on its faces These engines help the robot to jump Groups of these robots will disembark from a base ship near a sinkhole leading to a lava tube while coordinating with and reinforcing each other The robots will carry a set of scientific instruments that will determine the conditions inside the tube such as the presence of residual atmosphere which will allow scientists to investigate the viability of sites for the first lunar colonies Aeneas has managed to make several jumps at its test site Talaris is a light aircraft for moving between the orbit and the lunar surface as well as for short-distance flights on the Moon It can also act as a means of evacuation from the surface or an orbital station Vejat is a Cubesat remote sensing satellite project but with a resolution that exceeds that of many traditional remote sensing satellites This was achieved through the use of non-standard optical circuits and other innovations Vejat is expected to be the cheapest remote sensing satellite in the world and will be launched by groups as an accompanying cargo the rocket is set to become the world's cheapest orbital carrier of this class there is a chance to reduce the start-up cost to $1 million Development of the project began with an order from a foreign customer but SEC's developers and management hope to one day have regular launches of spacecraft from Ukraine SEC members have filed patent applications for solutions that can reduce the cost of work and increase the reliability of traditional rockets with liquid fuel engines one of their inventions allows rockets to avoid using a turbopump unit which is the most complex unit of a rocket jet engine and makes up a significant part of its cost The center is working on a revolutionary solution to solve the problem of deteriorating solar panels on spacecraft which will dramatically simplify and lighten spacecraft design Some progress has been also achieved in related industries SEC employees have developed new formulae and technologies for the production of solid rocket fuel for various tasks from slow stable combustion to high-speed combustion on the verge of detonation the SEC has been forced to somewhat scale back its activity Several of its employees have volunteered to join the armed forces all of them are attempting to keep working remotely and hope to continue working on space exploration after Ukraine's victory we hope that eventually these ventures will grow stronger over time and provide a great boost to Ukraine's space industry Ukraine must remain one of the world's leading space powers Movement of crude oil north from the Black Sea towards European markets will retain the option of the Odessa-Brody crude oil pipeline even though the line has lain idle since its completion more than 2 years ago and a Ukraine commission had recommended reversing it to allow Russian crude oil to flow to a new Black Sea oil terminal at Pivdenne (OGJ Ukraine's decision brings to an end a raging internal Ukraine debate over how best to use the pipeline according to a report last month from the Centre for Global Energy Studies flies in the face of findings of a feasibility study conducted by the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry and carried out by Energy Solutions LLC It recommended that the line be used to carry Russian oil to the Black Sea for 3 years because this was the only viable use for the line over that period It further recommended the situation should be reassessed in 3 years because other alternatives for the line might have opened up by that time The 414-mile line has a capacity of 12 million tonnes/year (tpy; about 237,000 b/d) and runs north from the new terminal at Pivdenne (about 12 miles north of Odessa on the Black Sea) to a pumping station on the southern branch of the Druzhba export pipeline at Brody (Fig Ukraine built the line for about $645 million as a speculative investment in anticipation that Caspian Sea producers would use it to move oil into Europe and bypass the increasingly congested Turkish Straits of the Bosporus and Dardanelles Not only were the producers unwilling to use the line state-owned UkrTransNafta lacks funds to purchase the technical oil to fill the line the Ukraine government has ordered UkrTransNafta to begin shipments of oil northwards through the Odessa-Brody pipeline by May CGES said there has been talk of trying to form an international consortium to own and operate both the pipeline and the Pivdenne (Yuzhny) oil terminal but having struggled to attract users of the line "finding potential owners may be even more difficult." CGES said that part of the problem may have been that "the line did not go far enough." Although the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline to which the new pipeline interconnects at Brody refineries served by the route showed no interest in buying Caspian crude oil proposals to link Druzhba with the Adria system to carry Russian oil to the Adriatic may well soak up much of this idle capacity and the Czech Republic have relied on Russia's oil majors for most Caspian producers were delivering their oil to refineries in Western Europe and beyond but the Odessa-Brody pipeline does not help them reach these markets CGES said that the longer the Odessa-Brody pipeline lay idle the "more the political temperature increased." Both the US government and the European Union strongly supported Ukraine in its desire to see the line used to carry Caspian oil into Europe while Russian oil companies lobbied for reversing the line to carry some of their growing volumes to the Black Sea Reversal of Odessa-Brody appeared to be a quick and relatively inexpensive way of boosting Russia's tightening oil export capacity by around 9 million tpy (180,000 b/d) which owns substantial downstream assets in Ukraine offered to supply 450,000 tonnes of crude oil to fill the pipeline under a 3-year loan at low interest rates which CGES said some saw as pressuring Ukraine to reverse the line then rejected amid claims that unnamed Kazakhstan oil producers had agreed to move 9 million tpy of oil through the line to Europe CGES said the companies were subsequently identified in various unconfirmed press reports as ChevronTexaco Corp Ukrainian officials have stated that ChevronTexaco is ready to begin shipping oil from Kazakhstan through the Odessa-Brody pipeline later this year Extending the Odessa-Brody pipeline to Plock in Poland which would give access through the existing Pomeranian pipeline to the port of Gdansk and through existing pipelines access to refineries in Germany might make the route considerably more attractive to exporters seeking markets in northern Europe although it has long been the subject of inter-governmental agreements between Ukraine and Poland Ukraine's best hope for earning revenue from its newest pipeline would indeed seem to be to use it for exporting Russian oil The great danger for Ukraine in adopting this strategy is that once it is reversed to carry oil southwards it might then become impossible to switch the flow back to a northwards direction in the future "This is clearly a risk that the Ukrainian government has been unwilling to take," said the CGES report Photos and videos of the combat operation of the latest Ukrainian-developed Burevyi MLRS keep appearing more often these days the Bureviy system is simply an upgraded version of the Soviet Uragan multiple launch rocket system transferred to the latest Tatra T815-7 chassis But Bureviy has its fundamental differences there is a possibility to directly receive targeting instructions for firing from UAVs the operator of the MLRS does not need to leave the car's cabin to aim at the target there is an option to use two types of projectiles at once Soviet projectiles with a firing range of up to 35 km and Typhoon-2 projectiles from Pivdenne Design Office with a firing range of up to 65 km both the Soviet Uragan and Ukraine’s Bureviy have one significant drawback that does not allow intensive firing: these MLRS do not have the option of automatic reloading of rocket projectiles in which reloading takes about 5-10 minutes such a point should be taken into account for the development of future missile weapons systems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine an important event in the history of the Ukrainian space industry took place Ukraine launched its own satellite into orbit opinion leaders and media perceived this event as a huge achievement Zaborona’s investigative journalist Oleksandr Humeniuk managed to find out that the launch of the Sich-2-30 satellite was carried out with serious violations some facts point to corruption behind the scenes A few months ago Zaborona  noted that Sich-2-30 was not a new satellite but rather a copy of the Sich-2 spacecraft which was launched into orbit by Ukraine 11 years ago The purpose of the copy’s creation  was to work out emergency situations that can happen in orbit The original satellite managed to work for only six months and eventually turned into space debris despite initial assurances that it would be able to work for five years As a result,  Sich-2’s copy was  sent to the warehouses of Pivdenne State Design Office in Dnipro This copy was later called the Sich-2-30 satellite and was presented as a new breakthrough of the Ukrainian space industry despite the fact that the spacecraft was considered obsolete more than 10 years ago and merits its own place in a museum Spatial resolution is one of the crucial features of such spacecraft This term implies the coverage area of the Earth’s surface and which will be fixed in one pixel of the image the more detailed and better the image is obtained in Technical Science and associate professor of the Department of Aerospace Geodesy and Land Management of the National Aviation University explained to Zaborona The resolution of the Sich-2-30 satellite is approximately 7.8 meters because modern satellites of such type are able to transmit an image with a resolution of 30 centimeters– 26 times better than the Ukrainian one we came to Dnipro for a special committee meeting and one of the main topics was the revival of the Ukrainian space industry Dehtyarev (the former CEO of Pivdenne State Design Office) provided us with a little tour It was very funny because we were walking around in there: through the first hangar third hangar… And then he says: ‘Oh we caught sight of a massive device slightly covered with an oilcloth We asked why it was there and not in space He explained that there was no political will what is the readiness of the craft?’ and Dehtyarev replied that it was between 80-85 per cent,” Dmytro Natalukha tells Zaborona “Pivdenne Design Office spent 110 million hryvnias ($3,9 million) of its own funds to create this satellite When I asked why this craft stayed in a warehouse and not in orbit they replied that the launch would cost between 6 to 8 million dollars It was also necessary to finalize the ground segment plus another 20 million hryvnias to finish the satellite,” Mykhailo Lev says in an interview with Zaborona Realizing that a satellite launch by Chinese or Indian partners could cost $6-8 million Mykhailo Lev wrote a letter to American company SpaceX owned by Elon Musk Mykhailo Lev was truly interested in the prospect of launching a Ukrainian satellite into space with SpaceX’s cooperation it cost several times less than the offers of other partners with whom Ukraine used to work the launch of even an obsoleted satellite could become a symbol of the resurrection of the Ukrainian space industry several million dollars had already been spent on this satellite and there were only two options left: either admit that all of the money had been wasted or spend a few millions more and launch the satellite into space The former chairman of Ukraine’s State Space Agency decided to look for funding for this project — and the money was found it was taken from other unpromising projects Then he handed over the order on the redistribution of funds for approval to Oleh Uruskiy the former Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine and the former chairman of the State Space Agency (2015)  “There was a meeting between the chairman of the Committee on Economics (Dmytro Natalukha) with his deputy and Mr The Minister said that the satellite was unable to launch The project was unrealistic,” says Mykhailo Lev the chairman of the Space Agency said that it was possible As our negotiations with SpaceX progressed Uruskiy realized that absolutely everything was real He met with President Zelensky and said: “Volodymyr Oleksandrovych we are going to launch a satellite,” and started promoting himself everywhere he was able to he launched a narrative that there was a Space Agency and Mykhailo Lev was going to block everything and disrupt our satellite launch.” Mykhailo Lev and Dmytro Natalukha made a few attempts to solve problems and make sure that Pivdenne Design Office would be able to redistribute and spend funds for an advance payment it was not possible to carry it out on time SpaceX informed Ukraine that they could not guarantee the launch of the satellite in December arguing that the advance payment had not been made in due time the new Space Agency management and the Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine found an intermediary — the Dutch company ISILAUNCH This intermediary guaranteed the Ukrainian side a place for a satellite on the launch vehicle but on one condition: the cost of the satellite launch was set at $1 million with direct cooperation “They [the Dutch] argued their motivation for increasing the price by the fact that they were going to provide their adapter because with our adapter SpaceX was unable to accommodate the satellite when we were in the negotiation process with SpaceX they offered to certify our adapter,” recalls Mykhailo Lev This means that SpaceX had been completely satisfied with the Ukrainian spacecraft adapter manufactured at Pivdenne State Design Office when the Dutch intermediary took the stage everything changed — the manufacture of the adapter and the money for its manufacture was entrusted to the Dutch company According to information confirmed to Zaborona by several sources ISILAUNCH then hired a Ukrainian private company SKY ENERGY LLC as a subcontractor which allegedly have been assigned to produce special plates for attaching the satellite to the launch vehicle This company is located in Dnipro and its connection with Pivdenne State Design Office is manifested not only by general location: its chairman and owner is Yuriy Prokopenko To find out what kind of adapter was installed on the satellite and whether it was really an adapter manufactured at Pivdenne’s facilities despite money having been paid to the SKY ENERGY LLC we turned to Pivdenne Design Office for a comment Neither Pivdenne Design Office nor the State Space Agency could tell us what kind of private company it was what capacities were used for manufacturing the adapter and why its services were needed at all due to the fact that Pivdenne has its own adapters of the same type Another gray area in the story of the Ukrainian satellite launch is hidden in the private Ukraine company’s export details of spare parts for the adapter to the Netherlands According to the information provided by ImportGenius SKY ENERGY LLC had previously supplied similar products to the Dutch company it did not indicate in the documents that exported goods were space technology we mentioned that this satellite is a copy of the Sich-2 spacecraft which was launched into space 11 years ago It had been working for only six months before it turned into space trash And it looks like we are now able to update that record A few weeks have passed since the launch of the Sich-2-30 satellite and we have yet to see any pictures taken by it which the leaders of the space industry and the state could use to their benefit in their speeches we have all the reasons to believe that the satellite was lost immediately after the launch Recently, space expert Andrii Kolesnyk published a post on Facebook the Ukrainian satellite Sich-2-30 has not yet been identified The author of the post suggested that there was no connection at all with the Sich-2-30 satellite That is why it was impossible to provide information to the American side about the extended parameters of its movement for complete identification This information was also confirmed to Zaborona by sources related to the space industry there is still no stable connection with the satellite there are a few other problems that prevent the satellite from starting the normal performance of its initial options We also received information that a special commission has already been established at the government level with the task of finding out who is to blame for this but the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is aware of the situation and is strongly dissatisfied because the failure of the launch creates a lot of trouble for him personally “A number of external factors related to the peculiarities of the cluster launch did not allow us to establish a stable connection with the spacecraft during the critical first sessions and ensure the timely configuration of its standard orientation,” said the message by Pivdenne “The spacecraft froze in orientation when only solar radiation reflected from the Earth’s surface or short-term direct radiation at a sufficiently small angle cat hit the working surfaces of the solar battery The combination of these factors has led to a negative impact on the energy balance of the satellite.” Ukraine has spent more than 1 billion and 200 thousand dollars on space projects most of this money was lost because of corruption schemes A great number of Ukrainians dream about the potential space power of our country but in order for this to become a reality the authorities have to seriously analyze the work of space enterprises and their permanent managers Support Zaborona on Patreon so we can produce even more BM-21U “Verba” and BM-21UM “Berest” the contract for the first research division of the Sapsan missile system is to be signed in 2021 we visited our strategic enterprises of the domestic rocket and space industry in Dnipro - Pivdenmash and Pivdenne Design Bureau After getting acquainted with promising developments in the field of missile and jet weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces we stated our readiness to expand funding for the Ukrainian missile program Now we are moving to concrete steps," Defense Minister Andriy Taran said the issue concerns the drafting of the contract for the production of the first experimental battery of the missile system known as Sapsan or Hrim-2 which is being developed at the Pivdenne Design Bureau "Since the degree of readiness of the entire project has already exceeded 80% we must take the last step and complete this work The development of the domestic operational and tactical missile system from the Pivdenne Design Bureau has the highest priority commensurate with the Neptune missile system," Taran said The Russian army attacked an unfinished residential building in the Odesa region on February 5. One person was killed, and another was wounded; they were passing by at the time of the strike, according to the Telegram of Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper "In the Odesa region, as a result of a Russian missile attack on an unfinished residential building, a man was killed," Kiper reported According to the head of the regional administration another man is in critical condition in the hospital "Both were passing by the building by chance Emergency services are working at the scene," he noted According to media reports the Russian forces attacked an unfinished residential building in the city of Pivdenne Russian troops regularly shell Odesa and the surrounding region with missiles and drones. For example, on the night of February 1, Russia attacked the Odesa district with drones. A 9-year-old child and a woman were injured Additionally, on the night of January 31, the Russian forces attacked Chornomorsk in the Odesa region with drones Russian forces also launched a ballistic missile attack on Odesa This was reported on Suspilne TV by Petro Tokar That's the kind of“truce” we can talk about in Kharkiv region right now,” Tokar said Photo: Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office MENAFN01052025000193011044ID1109498494 World and Middle East business and financial news
