A light aircraft carrying a Russian major general and his wife crashed in in the country's Far East region on Tuesday
Sergei Fedorov and his spouse Alena Kalagurova from Omsk
were on board the two-seat Bristell light aircraft when it crashed 20 miles from the Novorossiya airfield in the Primorskiy Territory that borders the Pacific Ocean
according to local media cited by the Telegram news outlet Readovka
Local outlet Irkutsk News reported Fedorov's considerable experience as a pilot
having worked in the aviation division of Russia's emergency situations ministry for more than 20 years
A graduate of the Syzran Higher Military Aviation School
he had been awarded the Soviet-era Order of the Red Star as well as other medals
Irkutsk News said the emergency situations ministry
had warned the couple about the threat of bad weather conditions on their route
The Mash Telegram channel posted a video clip it said was of the couple buckling up before their flight with both in good spirits
"Thanks for the welcome," Fedorov tells a man out of shot
The Telegram channel 112 said that the couple were supposed to land at 8 a.m
Air traffic controllers said the plane disappeared in thick fog on a mountain range with peaks up to 6,000 feet high
It had been flying over peaks up to 3,000 feet high
"but the last obstacle before reaching the airfield turned out to be insurmountable," the channel said
The fog has meant that rescuers have so far been unable to reach the crash site
Kalagurova frequently posted video on social media of the couple's trips by private plane
In a recent clip on vKontakte she described her first solo flight
I controlled the plane in the sky without an instructor," she said from the passenger seat of a car
"The euphoria and having wings behind my back were an indescribable feeling."
Her mother told the outlet GS55.RU that she had spoken with her daughter on the morning of the flight
they always prepared carefully for flights," she told the outlet

win the international compétition for the completion of the Primorskiy’s new zoological Park
Founded in 1865 Saint-Petersburg zoo is the oldest zoological park of Russia
it suffers today from a cruel lack of space
being located in the heart of the historical town center
The city has hence decided to create a new zoo
escaping this way the high population density of the urban area
The project preserves a large strech of land
and implements an environmentally beneficial approach
The project offers a symbolic sample of every continent in an attempt to recreate the illusion of a reunited Pangea within the very zoological park of Saint-Petersburg
The archipelago therefore created will be made of islands representing South East Asia
the two latter being linked with each other by the pack ice of the Arctic Pole
The chosen site enjoys a profuse water supply
and hence is particularly fitted for such an insular organization of the various environments
Nowadays the environment requirements and the green consciousness of the public are increasingly considered a core issue
The very background of a zoological park itself induces a mandatory respect of those values
zoological parks are today considered major stakeholders of biodiversty preservation
Even though it is an artificially recreated leisure area
the Primorskiy Park is above all an educational tool allowing each and everyone of us to better grasp our own history
and also a research center helping to preserve our Earth
So much goals were aimed both by architects and landscape designers of this project who managed to convince and share their ambitions

Russian military exercises in the Far East this week are to take place on a far smaller scale than when they were last held in 2018
reflecting the strain on Moscow’s forces as they struggle to make headway on the battlefields of eastern Ukraine
the Russian Ministry of Defense last month said that its capacity to stage such exercises was in no way affected by what Russia calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine
but the 50,000 personnel that Moscow yesterday said would take part are a fraction of the official figure of 300,000 that were said to be involved four years ago — although some Western military analysts suspect that number was overstated
The ministry said that 140 military aircraft and more than 5,000 items of military hardware would be deployed — way down on the 1,000 aircraft and 36,000 tanks and armored vehicles that were reported to have been sent to the 2018 maneuvers
“This is going to be the smallest strategic-level exercise in years because the entire ground forces potential is engaged in operations in Ukraine
So the exercise will have to be very small,” said Konrad Muzyka
director of Rochan military consultancy based in Poland
The exercises would be closely watched by regional powers such as Japan and South Korea as a significant show of force by Russia and China
which joined up in Vostok 2018 and are to take part again in drills on land and at sea
Russia said its Pacific Fleet and China’s navy would take part in “joint practical actions to defend maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity” in the Sea of Japan
Russia’s armed forces news channel Zvezda yesterday posted a video of Chinese troops unloading armored vehicles delivered to Russia by rail
Muzyka said he estimated that 70 to 80 percent of units from Russia’s eastern military district had been deployed to Ukraine
making it “impossible” for Moscow to free up 50,000 men for exercises
He said a more plausible figure would be 10,000 to 15,000
“It’s just Russia pretending everything is fine and they still have the capability to launch a large-scale military exercise with China
but in reality I think the scope of this exercise
especially from a ground force perspective

Amur [the tiger] didn’t eat Timur [the goat] because he was full
I asked employees of the park feed Amur more so that he won’t eat Timur in the future
That’s basically what we did for two months
We decided to call it «friendship» of tiger and goat
but fact is — tiger wasn’t hungry and in captivity tigers don’t kill to make food stocks for later. Then the director of the park
started to kind of make this whole «friendship» idea look like it was his idea
He reacted negatively on me working in the park and I left
After that Amur broke Timur’s spine and the goat has to get an operation done on him
Global Ports Group has commissioned two mobile harbour cranes Liebherr LHM550 at the group’s Far Eastern terminal Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC) located in the deep-water Port of Vostochniy in Primorskiy krai
The new heavy-duty equipment supplements the operation of VCS’s five STS-cranes
enhancing the speed and efficiency of vessel handling and allowing for an increase of berth annual capacity by 200,000 TEU
The harbour cranes were custom-built for Global Ports in Germany and delivered pre-assembled to VSC by sea.
The machines have a lifting capacity of 144 tonnes and can operate in three regimes: hook
Each crane has a maximum outreach of 54 metres
allowing it to handle vessels with up to 16 rows of containers.
Similar equipment is already in use at Global Ports’ Petrolesport terminal in Saint Petersburg
the container throughput of VSC increased by 17.3 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2022 and amounted to 146,000 TEU
Global Ports has implemented an investment programme to increase terminal capacity in the Far East
VSC has already received two new SANY reachstackers
and two more ‘super heavy’ loaders are expected to be delivered
the Group has redistributed about 30 equipment units from North-West terminals to the Far East
nine new RTG and RMG cranes by China’s leading manufacturer ZPMC will join the fleet of VSC

Global Ports began an expansion project at VSC to develop the 47-hectare site adjacent to the terminal
and a new railway front are planned to be built on the area
The project will increase the throughput capacity of VSC from the current 700,000 TEU to 1.7 million TEU per year by the mid-2030s
Earlier in the year, CMA Terminals and Global Ports agreed to a cash free shares swap as part of CMA CGM Group’s divestment of shares in Russia
More recently, Global Ports announced it is establishing its own fleet of 4,000 specialised containers that will be used for the transportation, storage, and handling of bulk cargo

with its first deliveries scheduled for 2019
The yard is to build five “green” LNG-fuelled aframax tankers
plus multipurpose replenishment ships with ice class
The tankers will be used to export crude and oil products from Baltic ports
Rosneft and the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC) also signed contracts for two multi-purpose supply vessels with reinforced ice-class Icebreaker 7 notation
which will be delivered in late 2019 and early 2020
MH Wirth AS and the companies’ joint venture Antares also signed heads of agreements for offshore drilling units
The rigs will be designed by Zvezda-Keppel Design and Engineering Centre and built jointly by Keppel FELS and the Zvezda Shipbuilding complex in Russia’s Primorskiy region
Rosneft and Exxon Neftegas Limited today signed a joint protocol to review the new shipyard’s technical capability and development plans
which could lead to Zvezda building tankers in the future to serve the Sakhalin-1 Project in the Sea of Okhotsk
Rosneft said it intends to develop a manufacturing facility at Zvezda
which could be used for the repaid and maintenance of oil tankers currently serving the Sakhalin-1 project
A new dry dock will be added to the shipyard in the future

Africa artefactoryThe zoo as sphere is seen as a metaphor for the history of humanity, the deep connection between man and his environment and the link between self and other. It makes this coexistence possible by demonstrating the idea that it is possible to produce an ideal world that can easily translate to the real world. The spheres determine the variable boundaries of our living space, whether it has the intimacy of a bubble or the cosmopolitan immensity of a globe.

All previous bail requests had been refused
But of the 21 people who appeared in court hearings so far this week
only Australian Colin Russell has had his detention extended
Greenpeace says it is baffled by the decision to keep Mr Russell

All of those aboard the Arctic Sunrise icebreaker during the protest at a Russian oil rig could still face seven-year jail terms on hooliganism charges
Russian courts granted eight activists bail on Wednesday
including the pilot of the Greenpeace icebreaker who steered the vessel to the Gazprom-owned Prirazlomnaya oil platform
