Olha Smirnitska (1837-1920) was a Ukrainian composer from Zmiiv
She studied at the Institute for Noble Maidens
the most famous of which are “First Love” and Polish Mazurka
Historians say that her music had a significant impact on composer Johann Strauss II
Zmiiv City Council got an agreement to transform the building built in 30s of XIX century from the State Property Fund of Ukraine
since recently the building became a common property (belonging to the Zmiiv community)
“The main condition was to not allow privatization of the property — (the building) has to be used exclusively as a museum exhibition dedicated to Olha Smirnitska’s life and music,” said Zmiiv City Council.
A few days ago, Mykhailo Saianyi, director of the Zmiiv local museum, received the key to this building. He’ll supposedly oversee the creation of a new museum.

the idea of seizing Russian assets frozen by western countries has re-emerged as a potential solution
economists Joseph Stiglitz and Andrew Kosenko wrote
Although seizing these assets would boost Ukrainian morale and finances, policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic are wary. As the New York Times recently reported
top US officials fear that setting such a precedent would deter other countries from depositing their funds at the New York Federal Reserve or holding them in dollars
But the concern that other governments might become wary of keeping their funds in the US for fear of future seizures overlooks some key points
Seizing Russia’s frozen assets would not affect other countries’ assets or change the incentives of governments that are not planning a major war
western countries are signalling that governments waging brutal wars of aggression can violate international law and simultaneously benefit from it to escape the consequences of their actions

Russian forces launched a massive aerial attack across Ukraine overnight on April 11
targeting critical infrastructure in multiple regions
Kyiv Oblast had been under attack with drones for over five hours. The Kyiv Oblast military administration reported as of around 7 a.m
local time that drone strikes caused a fire at a critical infrastructure facility
Centerenergo later announced that the Russian attack against the Trypillia plant led to the destruction of 100% of the company's generation capacity
Russian troops previously destroyed the company's Zmiiv Thermal Power Plant during the March 22 strike on Kharkiv Oblast
Another Centerenergo's thermal power plant in the city of Svitlodarske in Donetsk Oblast has been under Russian occupation since July 2022
"It is a dark day in Centerenergo's history," the statement read
The Trypillia Thermal Power Plant was the main electricity supplier to Kyiv
The Russian strike led to a large-scale fire in the turbine house of the plant, according to Hota
All the plant's workers who were on the shift during the attack survived
Ukrainka's Mayor Oleksandr Turenko subsequently called on local citizens to make water stocks and charge all the devices without clarifying the consequences of the attack
Emergency services are currently working at the impact scene to extinguish the fire
DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, previously said Russia damaged its two thermal power plants during overnight strikes on April 11 without specifying their location
Energy infrastructure was also targeted in Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Kharkiv oblasts

Russia attacks Kharkiv oblast often because of its proximity to the border and the frontline. Since September, strikes on the eastern and southeastern parts of the region ramped up as Russia intensified its offensive on the Kupiansk axis.
At around 01:40 a.m., Russians attacked Bohodukhiv, injuring an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, who got an acute stress reaction. Crushing of the Geran-2 drone, a Shahed-type drone, destroying an outbuilding, damaging five houses, a tractor, and a car.
Then, at 04:30 a.m., a Russian attack on Kupiansk, presumably from multiple rocket launchers, injured two men, 46 and 47, and the latter was hospitalized. The strike destroyed a house, garage, and damaged two residential buildings.
On Feb 13 at 2:30 p.m., Russia hit a residential neighborhood in Kozacha Lopan from artillery. The attack hit a house with an 83-year-old woman inside—the building caught fire, and the woman was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
