Watchdog raises 'significant concerns' about the quality of care being provided at Allinvale House in Airdrie.
The Care Inspectorate raised “serious and significant concerns” about the quality of care being provided at Allinvale House in Airdrie after a similar report last year
The national watchdog has threatened to cancel the registration of the care home
unless there is “significant improvement” in around two weeks
Love @ Care says it has had no complaints from social workers or families
and that it feels “victimised” by the Care Inspectorate
The service has been given until May 15 to ensure all allegations of misconduct
child and adult protection concerns are reported within 24 hours to relevant agencies
the facility must also ensure the safety of young people by “consistently implementing adult and child protection procedures”
The Care Inspectorate’s improvement notice cites seven areas with issues – including allegations of abuse
young people’s safety and rules around medication
the watchdog highlighted four areas with issues
the centre must ensure that children and young people experience a high-quality environment which is “safe
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “An inspection has identified serious and significant concerns about the quality of care experienced by young people at Allinvale House
“We understand this is a difficult and distressing time for young people
our first priority is always the health and wellbeing of young people
“Because of our concerns about the safety of young people we have issued an Improvement Notice to the service
“This sets out the significant improvements that must be made
so that the care experienced by young people is of a standard they have a right to expect
“We are working closely with partners including relevant local authorities to ensure that young people experience appropriate care during this difficult time.”
“Anyone with a concern can contact us on 0345 600 9527.”
Love @ Care says it feels “victimised” by the Care Inspectorate and claims it has received no complaints from social workers or families
The CEO of Love @ Care says she has been left “feeling suicidal” by the inspection process
Lynn Black referenced the case of Ruth Perry
who took her own life while waiting for an Ofsted inspection report in January 2023
“Similar to Ruth Perry who died after after a similar Ofsted inspection in England after completing suicide
the process and pressure of inspection is horrendous,” Ms Black said
“We have complained on 14 occasions to the CI (Care Inspectorate)
the health and social care minister.”
Ms Black said it had submitted a complaint about two inspectors at Allinvale House four years ago
we have felt victimised to the point that myself a director
has felt suicidal by the unjustified pressure
and lack of parity in comparison to other residential houses being inspected that is applied to our organisation,” she said
Ms Black claims Love @ Care has been able to “get it right” in five other services and can “evidence great outcomes for young people” but that Allinvale “continues to yo-yo in its grading”
“We feel that there is a systemic abuse of power in the Care Inspectorate whereby inspectors are unaccountable to anyone,” she said
“This affects our ability to retain managers because they will not sustain the pressure applied to the organisation
There is nowhere to turn to and no one will listen
“Love @ Care was created to bring love back to care and the improvement process has always been our priority.”
The Scottish Government said that if an organisation isn’t happy with how the Care Inspectorate handles a complaint
then it should contact the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman – the organisation that investigates complaints against public bodies in Scotland
Love @ Care claims the Ombudsman won’t “interfere” on an inspection complaint
The Ombudsman told STV News it cannot comment on individual cases nor would it confirm whether or not an investigation was under way
A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “The Care Inspectorate is an independent non-departmental body and therefore it is not appropriate for ministers or the Scottish Government to comment on individual complaints
“If an individual or organisation is not content with the way the Care Inspectorate has handled a complaint
they can contact the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO).”

During Airdrie Stud founder and former Kentucky Gov
Bret Jones said he and his father would share joy riding across the farm
"When he was going through the memory issues that he had
one of the great things that we could always still do together was me driving through the farm and (to) show him the foals," Bret Jones said of his father who died in September 2023
Two of those foals—in one of the last crops Jones would see—will give Jones a chance at adding to one of the most consequential biographies in Kentucky history: becoming the breeder of a Kentucky Derby (G1) winner
"I guarantee you Pop had a good look at Publisher and a good look at Chunk of Gold and had a big smile on his face at the time," said Bret Jones
"Dad doesn't need anything else on his résumé," Jones said."He lived one of the most incredible lives of any humans I've ever known
but if we could get lucky enough to be able to to celebrate him as the breeder of a Kentucky Derby winner
Sign up for BloodHorse Daily
HarmonChunk of Gold on the track at Churchill Downs
He sold for $2,500 at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale
He sold for $600,000 at Fasig-Tipton's 2023 The Saratoga Sale
Publisher also would add the words "Kentucky Derby owner" to the governor's résumé
as Kentucky's chief executive from 1991-1995
he'd have the conundrum of presenting the Derby trophy to himself—repeatedly
he said he would have handed the trophy to his wife
"He didn't get a chance to do that
and we'll see if this is that opportunity," Bret Jones said
Arguably the closest Jones came while governor was the 1992 Derby won by Lil E
Tee's sire At the Threshold stood at Airdrie
The race also was pivotal for the younger Jones
EberhardtBrereton and Bret Jones at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale
"It was as profound a moment as I've had
as far as falling in love with horse racing
and I knew what the race meant to dad having the stallion
I could see how excited our whole family was," so the son bet $5 across on the 16.80-1 shot
"I'm pretty sure dad booked (the bet) because he didn't honestly believe the horse was going to win the race," Jones said
I had more money than I ever thought I'd see in my life in my pocket leaving leaving Churchill Downs that day."
The former governor's résumé already includes being the owner of three Kentucky Oaks (G1) winners and breeding two of those three
After the first of those, Proud Spell 's 2008 Oaks win
the elder Jones was asked whether it was a bigger thrill to be elected governor of Kentucky or to win the Oaks
this may sound crazy," the former governor said to The Courier-Journal
I didn't have a boyhood dream to be governor
I had a boyhood dream to race horses in Kentucky
and somehow I kind of got into politics because I wanted to contribute and do my share
Both Joneses always have said that Airdrie's chief role is as a commercial seller and that owning racehorses comes after
the odds of having two horses bred by one farm among the 17,146 foals from 2022 to reach the Derby starting gate isn't lost on Airdrie's team
it will be Brereton Jones's eighth and ninth Derby entrants as a breeder
Breeding a Kentucky Derby starter is "always the goal
but it's it's a pretty unlikely goal to achieve
There's about 10,000 things that can go wrong from the time a foal is born to them being in the starting gate at the Kentucky Derby
we've been able to avoid any of those problems
and now we'll see what the day has in store for us."
But focusing on commercial breeding doesn't mean you don't dream about the winner's circle as an owner. Publisher is the farm's second Derby starter as an owner—King Russell
we are never going to run in this race again unless we really believe we have a chance," Jones said
"And now here we are back with a horse that's never actually won a horse race
But I can promise you we would not be running in this race if we didn't think that Publisher had the talent to run a competitive race
And the confidence that (trainer) Steve (Asmussen) has in him and the confidence that I think (jockey) Irad (Ortiz Jr.) has in Steve to accept the mount hopefully indicates that we're all on the same page
We're going to give them the opportunity
and find out later whether it was a good idea or not."
Jones said that after Gus King purchased Publisher at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale
who he "didn't really know" at the time
about partnering because of how much they liked Publisher as a yearling
"It's pretty remarkable to think from that conversation in August a couple of years ago to now
being this close to the starting gate of the Kentucky Derby
it's what makes the sport so incredible," he said
"… Sometimes these things do happen the way that you sure hope they will."
"I don't think there's anybody that's owned a racehorse who hasn't practiced their acceptance speech while accepting the Kentucky Derby trophy," Jones said
And that's what you do with horse ownership
and I'm not just saying on the Derby stage but in any winner's circle
there's a reason why you see the happiest faces you'll ever see in the winner's circle of a Thoroughbred horse race
because the feeling you get is just incredible
And so your goal is always to have that feeling and on the biggest stage there is
Play for Gold has not been pronounced in foal this year
Jones said: "Play for Gold has a beautiful Mage filly next to her … as nice a filly as you'd wanna see."
"We sold an exceptionally nice Constitution colt out of her in September at Keeneland
And she has two exceptional fillies on the farm right now
an Into Mischief yearling and a Gun Runner filly that's a foal
to what we and so many believe are as good a stallions as there are in the world because we believe she's got the potential to be one of the great broodmares we've had," Jones said
"And certainly to have her first-ever foal compete in the Kentucky Derby gives you gives you confidence to continue to give her every opportunity."
Children in Gartlea are celebrating the opening of a brand-new play area on Gartleahill
This exciting space offers a variety of fun and play opportunities for local families
joined by pupils from St Edward’s Primary & Nursery and Tollbrae Primary
Councillor Woods said: "It’s fantastic to see local children enjoying this wonderful new play area
and this space will allow young people to have fun and stay active."
pupils from local primary schools also participated in a ‘Design a Sign’ competition for the play area
The winning design will be turned into a sign and installed in the park
The pupils are also helping to take care of the space by organising litter picks
making sure it remains an excellent place for everyone to enjoy for years to come
The £100,000 project was funded by the North Lanarkshire Council’s Local Development Programme and the Scottish Government Play Park Renewal Fund to create a high-quality play area for the community

Ben Wilson is aiming for three points on Friday night as the Diamonds look to go into next week’s play-offs in a high – but the striker warns that Ayr United will be doing the same.Although some uncertainty remains as Hamilton’s appeal against their points deduction is yet to be heard
Airdrie face the League 1 play-offs as things stand – and the opportunity to retain their place in next season’s Championship. With the first of those matches coming hot on the heels of Friday’s final Championship fixture
squad rotation is likely – but top scorer Wilson says the Diamonds will still be going all out for the win.“We’ve both probably got the play-offs now
but it’s still a game where we’ll look to implement our stuff and try to win.“We need to go into the play-offs with a bit of momentum
so I think it’ll be important to pick up three points.”Although the final placings in League 1 will not be decided until Saturday evening
Airdrie will first face the fourth-placed side in a two-legged semi-final
Victory in that would see the Diamonds progress to the final against the winner of the second vs third match. After a torrid start to the season
Airdrie’s remarkable turnaround put them in a position to take advantage of a fifteen-point deduction handed to Hamilton Academical for various rule breaches.Unless there is a similarly momentous turnaround at Thursday’s appeal hearing
and Wilson can’t wait.“We’re all looking forward to it
“Everybody’s up for it and we’ll be aiming for those four games – we’ll look at the first two
and then focus on the last two.”Friday’s opponents Ayr United have confirmed their third-place finish
and with three wins out of three against Airdrie so far
Scott Brown’s side will be coming to the Albert Bartlett looking for their own confidence boost ahead of the promotion play-offs.While the Honest Men are also likely to rest their top performers
Wilson knows that the spread of talent throughout their squad has put them in this position.“Ayr are a strong team
they’re strong and anybody looking in from the outside can see that
They’ve got really good depth.“We’ll be trying to get a bit of momentum going into the games
It should be a good game.”And as the only Airdrie player to hit the net against Ayr this season – from the penalty spot in March’s 4-1 defeat at Somerset – Ben would be delighted to add to his 16 goals on Friday night.“I love scoring goals
so I’ll do everything I can to try and do it.“If the goals come
that’s good – but helping the team and helping everybody out is the main thing.”Manager Rhys McCabe is preparing as normal despite Thursday’s appeal and Tuesday’s potential play-off away leg.“It’s not that you want to take your foot off the gas or anything like that
because you still want to have confidence going into the play-offs
but obviously there are other factors as well with the appeal.“A few things to think about
and we’ve got to do as best we can to approach the game like any other and try to win it
but at the same time we’ll have a wee thought on the games during the week.”The Diamonds boss is still without Cammy Bruce (knee) and Aaron Reid (hamstring)
Defenders Alex Bannon and Aidan Wilson are continuing their rehab from recent injuries with the aim of returning for the play-off matches
while Lewis McGrattan (hamstring) has resumed training after missing the last two games.Steven Kirkland is in charge of the Friday night clash
his first match involving Airdrie this season – and the last of his refereeing career as he hangs up his whistle for the final time following the fixture.Match tickets are available using the link below

The 23-year-old, from Airdrie in North Lanarkshire, died in May 2021 following mental and physical abuse by her partner Andrew Brown.
The family of Demi Hannaway said they were “over the moon” at the decision by Scotland’s most senior law officer to order a new probe after meeting with Dorothy Bain KC
died in May 2021 following mental and physical abuse by her partner Andrew Brown
Her family has called for a re-examination of her death and disputed Police Scotland’s conclusion of suicide
The abuse faced by Demi was only uncovered through messages on her phone in the weeks following her death
told STV News last year: “The messages said go kill yourself
there were pictures of strangulation marks on her neck
Brown was jailed for three years and seven months at Airdrie Sheriff Court last year after admitting threatening and abusive behaviour
Ms Simpson said on Friday: “We’re overwhelmed
“She has been so on board (Lord Advocate) and has opened up the investigation – we can’t thank her enough.”
Dorothy Bain KC said the new probe will ensure “every aspect of this tragedy is addressed”
She said: “I understand the huge loss felt by everyone who loved Demi and their desire to know what happened to her
“The details of Demi’s passing have been discussed with her parents
I have instructed a reinvestigation by a team of specialist prosecutors to ensure that every aspect of this tragedy is addressed
“I greatly valued meeting with Demi’s parents and listened to their perspective
“We will remain in contact with them and continue to provide updates as the reinvestigation progresses.”
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson said on Friday: “We understand the significant impact Demi’s death continues to have on her family and friends and our thoughts remain very much with them
“Police Scotland is committed to supporting them with answers to the questions they have around her death
“This remains an extremely difficult time for the family
but I want to reassure them that officers from our professional standards department are working hard to address their complaints about how the investigation was handled as quickly as possible and will respond to them as soon as that work is complete
“We must ensure that Demi’s family are the first to receive that response
so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage
“We will assist the team of prosecutors if this is required.”
First Minister John Swinney extended his “sympathies” to the family and said he understood their concerns last month
He said: “The Crown reserves the right in all circumstances to review any new evidence in a particular case and obviously does that independently of Government
“I would be wrong for me to pre-judge any of that information
“But I will raise with the Lord Advocate the point that Claire Baker has made to me today about the desire of the family for further investigation in this case
because that would have to be a matter for the Crown to take forward
“But I give Claire Baker the assurance that I will ensure that is the case as a consequence of our exchange today.”

Jamie Lucas, 33, was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to Stirling Street in Airdrie at around 2.45am on Sunday after a 33-year-old man was assaulted and injured.
Jamie Lucas was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital a short while later.
Police have since arrested and charged a 21-year-old in connection with the death and investigations into the incident continue.
He is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 24.
Detective chief inspector Jamie Campbell said: “My thoughts remain with Jamie’s family and friends. We continue to offer them support at this very difficult time.
“I’d like to thank members of the local community for their support during our investigations. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to come forward.
“You can call us on 101 quoting incident number 0454 of December 22. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
The fire happened on Broomfield Street, near the junction with South Biggar Road.
Police were called to Broomfield Street, near the junction with South Biggar Road, around 9.10pm on Wednesday after the car was set on fire.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze and no one was injured as a result.
Officers are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
Detective constable David Williamson of Coatbridge CID, said: “We are fortunate that no one was hurt in this reckless act, but the damaged caused to the vehicle is significant.
“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are urging anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
“We are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam footage or private CCTV from the surrounding area that could assist with our enquiries.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 3838 of September 11, 2024.
“Alternatively, those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The incident reportedly took place during a match against East Kilbride
The Championship outfit hosted East Kilbride on Saturday, October 12, in the fourth round of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
The Lowland League team got a shock penalty shoot-out win against the second-tier side. However, they confirmed earlier today that Portuguese midfielder Joao Balde faced alleged racist abuse at the end of the match.
The club statement posted on social media read: “East Kilbride Football Club is aware of an incident involving our player, Joao Balde, that occurred during Saturday’s match.
“We are currently in dialogue with Airdrie Football Club, who have initiated an investigation into this matter.
“We trust that Airdrie will address this situation appropriately and thoroughly. Our thoughts remain with Joao, who was exceptional on Saturday.”
Kilby boss Mick Kennedy also took to social media, stating that there is “no place for this in society.”
He wrote: “No place for this in society let alone football, I’m sure Airdrie FC will investigate and take action against the individual involved. Also astonishing the ref books one of our players for his defence of his team mate.”
Airdrie has since released a statement confirming that the individual involved has been banned and that evidence has been submitted to the police.
It read: “The club are aware of an incident which took place following Saturday’s match against East Kilbride.
“The perpetrator of the incident, in which an East Kilbride player was subjected to racial abuse, has been identified and issued with a lifetime ban.
“Airdrieonians Football Club operates a zero-tolerance policy towards racism. All information gathered and witness statements have been delivered to Police Scotland who will now take control of this matter.”
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
But for a series of superb stops from Airdrie goalkeeper Kieran Wright, the scoreline would have been far more emphatic.
Gary Oliver, Calvin Miller and Ethan Ross were all denied, with Wright's save from Miller’s bending effort particularly impressive.
Ben Wilson did head against the crossbar late on for bottom side Airdrie but, by that point, the damage had been done.
Falkirk haven’t lost at home in the league for over a year-and-a-half - a stat which was never in much danger against a side who haven’t won since the opening day.
With just over half an hour played, Airdrie couldn’t clear a corner and Adams smashed home from close range.
Only Wright's heroics prevented Falkirk going further ahead but he did finally concede again after an hour, when Miller was on hand to tap in after fine work down the Falkirk right by Adams, who looks a fine prospect.
Airdrie had no answer to the Falkirk's passing, movement and energy and, with John McGlynn’s men now six points clear, they will take some catching in the title race.
Few would now bet against them earning back-to-back promotions.
Falkirk manager John McGlynn: “I think we’re ahead of schedule. Did we expect to be top of the table, six points clear? No, not at all.
"We wanted to be competitive and the guys have shown they can step and they can still play good football in this league.
"The crowds are getting bigger and bigger so it’s a case of so far, so good. It’s just a matter of trying to let it continue.”

Hamilton nudge up to seventh thanks to Shaw's late intervention and it was the former Hibs and Kilmarnock striker who got the ball rolling, firing in the opener from a Stuart McKinstry pass.
Airdrieonians responded with an Adam Frizzell free-kick diverted onto the head of Chris Mochrie, who left Charlie Albinson rooted to the spot.
Connor Smith then set up McKinstry to blast home on 38 minutes but the bottom-of-the-table visitors hit back again before the break, Gavin Gallagher finding the net from just outside the penalty area.
Shaw had the last say when his low effort found the corner to break Airdrie hearts.
