Dumbarton’s home campaign in the 2024/25 League One season comes to an end tomorrow afternoon as Annan Athletic visit the Marbill Coaches Stadium [kick-off 3:00pm]
Sons will be looking to end on a high when the Galabankies come calling and carry on what has been a decent run of form in recent weeks with just one defeat in six games
it remains all to play for in the battle to avoid the relegation play-offs – they trail Inverness Caledonian Thistle by just one point heading into the final two games and will be hoping they slip up against champions Arbroath whilst they earn something at the Rock
Boss Stevie Farrell isn’t keen for that to happen following on from last weeks 2-2 draw at Montrose and is looking for another committed performance
he said: “It’s a tough place to go and Montrose are still fighting for points but we’ve showed again that we have good players and a good dressing room
“We knew were going to come under pressure when we lost Mark Durnan and they went direct
but when they keep on piling it on then they’re bound to get on the end of one
“There’s one thing that can never be aimed at this group
and I’ve been involved in teams that have had tough seasons and you maybe can see tools get downed at one stage
They are an absolute credit and a joy to work with
“The performances in League One on the whole have been excellent
“We’re hopeful of ending our home season on a high tomorrow afternoon but there are a number of factors that make that difficult
Annan are desperate for points to try and avoid the play-offs but we will be looking to make things difficult for them.”

The Spiders made six changes to the line-up that saw off Hamilton Academical last weekend for their first game against the Black and Golds since 2021 with Sean Welsh skippering the side
Cameron Kerr and Dom Thomas missed out all together with Calum Ferrie
Roddy MacGregor and Jack Turner moving to the bench where they were joined by new recruit Seb Drozd
The visitors started the game with Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia on the right wing in what was his first start and Ryan Duncan on the left
It was Duncan that was first to threaten as he charged down the left and sent over a wicked cross that flashed across the Annan goalmouth but found no takers
A minute later it looked like Liam McLeish was given a glimpse of goal however Jamie Smith darted from his line to smother
Louis Longridge was penalised for a trip on Aidan Smith on six minutes with the hosts creating danger from the dead ball only for an offside flag to end their hopes of an opener
Henry Fieldson and Duncan combined to win the game’s first corner on 10 minutes with Hickey-Fugaccia’s delivery nodded behind for a second corner
This time Hickey-Fugaccia’s cross was close to generating a goal as Welsh met the ball with a header from six yards that just cleared the bar
Shortly afterwards Duncan looked set to grab his first goal for the club when McLeish rolled a pass from right to left to the on-loan Aberdeen player 10 yards out however Smith spread himself well to save
A goal arrived on 16 minutes when Fieldson moved down the left and fed a precise pass through the Galabankies defence for McLEISH who took a touch to compose himself and then found the far corner with a superb finish
Midway through the opening half McLeish did well in his own box as he headed clear a dangerous looking Josh Todd cross and that allowed Queen’s to counter-attack through Duncan who won a corner
Hickey-Fugaccia’s delivery again created danger however the home defence survived although a second goal arrived on 28 minutes
much to the delight of the noisy Black and White fans behind the goal
McLeish was the architect this time with a fine right to left cross-field pass that Duncan brought under control before firing back low into the far corner from 16 yards
Queen’s had a real scare on 31 minutes when Smith wriggled clear and sent over a low cross that Ji Stevenson slid in to meet only for his close-range effort to slip wide
and short ones from Rudden and Hickey-Fugaccia
looked to have set-up McLeish to head in a third however Rhys Breen nodded away from under his own bar
A chance from the resultant corner was lofted over the bar by McLeish with QP going close again in their next attack with a drive from Mauchin that flashed past Smith’s right-hand post
Two minutes from the break Hickey- Fugaccia showed his prowess from a dead ball again with another superb delivery that Welsh came close to converting
Half time – Annan Athletic 0 Queen’s Park 2
There were no changes for either side at the break with Welsh fouled in the opening seconds of the second half by Stevenson
On 49 minutes Duncan picked out Rudden with a ball from the left with Smith glad to take it off the striker’s toes just as he was away to shoot
Niko Ujdur stepped in to stop a home attack on 50 minutes and stepped up to set up a visiting raid that saw the ball cut across the home box
The Spiders kept up their pressure on the Annan goal and Fieldson came close with the proverbial long-range rocket shot that just fizzed over Smith’s goal
Three minutes later a third goal looked on when Duncan took over corner kick duties and found Ujdur who sent a header just over
Smith took advantage of a loose ball to give Callum Davidson’s side a reminder that the game was not over by firing in a deflected drive that was watched carefully by Jack Wills as it squeezed past
On 63 minutes it was 3-0 to Queen’s Park when Hickey-Fugaccia dinked a cross over from the right and McLeish forced a knockdown to RUDDEN who swivelled on the spot and chipped into the net from seven yards out
There was a special moment midway through the second half when Academy Graduate Timam Scott was brought on to make his senior debut
as he leapt high to save a well hit Paul McGowan effort from the edge of the box
Drozd made his bow a minute later with Will Tizzard helping set up an attack that saw the former Millwall striker send a shot wide after beating a couple of defenders
as a Drozd corner was pushed into the path of the defender who lashed high into the net
There was another QP debut with ten minutes left when Reece Evans came on for McLeish
Queen’s desire to keep Annan out was evidenced again with ten minutes left as Wills dived to keep out a Smith header and Ujdur darted across goal to block the striker’s effort from the follow up
The clean-sheet was taken away however with four minutes to go as the ball broke to Charlie Maxwell and he slipped a shot out of the reach of Wills
Annan were determined to go out with a bang and Wills was forced into two further smart stops to prevent the hosts adding a second

the week-long residential for the 25 fellows of the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership concluded in Cairo
This marked the second residential session of the fourth cohort of fellows
which ran from October 25 to November 1, providing opportunities for observation
and the shaping of future global health leadership ideals
Established in 2020 by Africa CDC and the Kofi Annan Foundation in honour of Kofi Atta Annan
the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
the fellowship embodies Annan’s visionary and principled leadership
It serves as a platform for developing the next generation of leaders who will drive transformative change in global health
The Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme comprises three components: the Fellowship
“The Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership is a one-year executive leadership program designed to empower fellows with advanced leadership skills
fellows participate in expert lectures on key leadership topics
receive personalised executive coaching
engage in leadership conversations with global health leaders
and attend residential sessions to analyse and learn from health systems in various countries
A cornerstone of the fellowship is the Leadership Challenge Project
which tasks fellows with addressing a real-life challenge within their country or organization by applying the knowledge and skills gained during the Programme,” said Dr
Technical Officer for Public Health Workforce Development at Africa CDC
The Scholars Program fosters a South-to-South exchange initiative
including participation from the African diaspora
which enables African experts—both within the continent and abroad—to temporarily relocate to an African country and contribute to specific areas of expertise such as research and guideline development
the Kofi Annan Public Health Policy Forum aspires to bring critical health-related discussions back to the African continent by fostering a platform for dialogue on contemporary regional challenges
enhancing public health decision-making with practical and reliable information
“The primary goal of the Policy Forum is to bring health-related discussions back to the African continent
The inaugural forum will focus on critical contemporary topics
including Africa’s health priorities for the South African Presidency of the G20
which seeks to emphasize how the continent can leverage this platform to prioritize health within a forum representing 85% of the global economy,” said Dr
Cairo served as one of the residential locations for the fourth cohort of the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership
the fellowship organises four residential sessions designed to achieve multiple objectives
Fellows examine the health systems of different African countries
gaining valuable insights into their structures and challenges
while engaging with national and global health leaders to foster collaborations and exchange knowledge
The Programme emphasizes peer networking
allowing participants to share experiences and build lasting professional relationships
Representing diverse fields such as human medicine
the fellows bring a wealth of expertise to the Programme
A unique aspect of the fellowship is its focus on taking students on a historical journey to understand the historical background of the countries they visit
“Most of our countries have been colonized
and much of the history we know is the history that has been perpetuated by the global North,” said Dr
This approach helps fellows appreciate the socio-political context of their work and enhances their perspective on leadership in global health
the Programme includes practical exercises to deepen participants’ understanding of critical public health concepts
with its rich history and dynamic health landscape
provides an ideal setting for advancing these objectives
Cairo is renowned for its expertise in One Health
Fellows had the opportunity to engage with leading One Health experts and learn about Egypt’s establishment of a government-wide steering committee that integrates efforts from the human
This collaborative model demonstrated how different ministries work together to drive meaningful change across these domains
A key highlight of the fellowship was a keynote address by Professor Mohamed Hassany
Assistant Minister for Projects and Public Health
who shared Egypt’s remarkable journey in transforming its Hepatitis C response
Once the country with the highest global burden of Hepatitis C
Egypt became the first nation certified at the “Golden Tier” level for Hepatitis C elimination
Professor Hassany highlighted the strategic public health initiatives behind this achievement
emphasizing Egypt’s partnership with Africa CDC to support other African nations in replicating its success
This exemplifies how targeted strategies and cross-sectoral collaboration can lead to transformative health outcomes
fellows also toured the Cairo Mental Health Authority
which provides critical support to individuals battling addiction
they gained insights into the history of mental health in Egypt and explored how mental health is a complex leadership challenge that requires a coordinated and multi-sectoral approach
This exposure emphasized the importance of mental health as a public health priority and the need for strong leadership to address it effectively
Egypt’s strong vaccine manufacturing industry provided another focal point for the fellowship
Fellows visited two leading local manufacturers of therapeutics and diagnostics
gaining invaluable insights into Egypt’s advancements in health manufacturing in alignment with the New Public Health Order
This exposure highlighted the country’s growing capacity to produce essential health products and contribute to the continent’s self-sufficiency
Deputy Prime Minister for Human Capital Development and Minister of Health and Population
affirmed Egypt’s strong commitment to fostering collaboration across the African continent
He extended his full support to the fellows
encouraging them as they pursue leadership roles that will drive transformative change in health across Africa
Africa CDC Regional Director for North Africa Regional Coordinating Centre
underscored the pivotal role of leadership development and South-South collaboration in advancing the New Public Health Order and achieving the goals of Agenda 2063
He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the government and people of Egypt for their generous hospitality and their openness in sharing their valuable experiences and expertise with the fellows
the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership admits public health professionals from across the continent
equipping them with advanced skills in health diplomacy
fellows are expected to have developed strategic
enabling them to tackle complex public health challenges
as well as enhanced competencies in diplomacy and partnerships
the fellowship has produced impressive results
To mention a few: one fellow from Zambia is in the process of establishing a national health insurance scheme and recently secured a grant from the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development
A fellow from Namibia brokered a partnership between the Ministry of Health in Namibia and the Pasteur Institute in Senegal
while another has ascended to the role of Minister of Higher Education in Sierra Leone
These accomplishments reflect the fellowship’s significant impact in fostering leadership and innovation across the continent
Africa CDC strengthens the capacity and capability of Africa’s public health institutions as well as partnerships to detect and respond quickly and effectively to disease threats and outbreaks
based on data-driven interventions and programmes

Dumbarton make the journey to Galabank for the final time this season tomorrow afternoon as Annan Athletic await for a League One fixture
Sons will be looking to record their first win of the season over the Dumfries & Galloway outfit as they look to cut the gap at the foot of the table
Stevie Farrell’s side registered a well-earned point against Alloa Athletic last weekend whilst tomorrow’s opponents picked up a 3-1 victory against Kelty Hearts
In head to head fixtures between the sides this season
ten-man Sons were unlucky not to earn a point against Annan back in September before the Galabankies ran out comfortable winners at the Rock in December
Faz believes his side could have earned all three points against the Wasps last week but admits he can’t fault their effort and application in recent months
he said: “We started the game really brightly last week and we could have found ourselves a couple up at the break had we taken a bit more care in the final third
“After that it was obviously disappointing to concede early again in the second-half and we had Paddy to thank for a couple of important saves before we could have then won it again ourselves
“I can’t speak highly enough of this group of players for dealing with everything they are having to deal with
both on and off the park on a weekly basis
and I know they aren’t far away from getting what they deserve
“We deserved more last time we travelled to Galabank but on the flip side got what we deserved in the return fixture so we know we to be at it to take anything or we can get hurt
“Training has been excellent once again this week with everyone continuing to give their all for this football club
and there’s no danger of that stopping any time soon.”
Matty Shiels and Brett Long remain the only two absentees
Supporters making the journey tomorrow can purchase their tickets in advance using the Fanbase app or by visiting https://app.fanbaseclub.com/Fan/Dashboard?clubId=42

Inverness Caledonian Thistle will be wondering how they did not score as they were beaten 1-0 by Annan Athletic in the Highland capital
An early goal from Paul Smith proved to be the difference between the teams
despite Caley Thistle dominating the game – doing practically everything but score a goal
who went behind in the third minute after failing to clear a corner
with Paul Smith firing past Musa Dibaga and into the net
Paul Allan and Alfie Stewart each forced saves out of visiting goalkeeper Jamie Smith in the first half
but by and large Inverness struggled to find a timely response
ICT came inches away from finding a leveller
when Adam Mackinnon picked out Paul Allan in the middle with the midfielder’s effort bouncing back off the post
The Caley Jags kept pushing in the second half
with Alfie Stewart’s cross towards Keith Bray finding its way inside the far post - only for referee Sean Murdoch to give Annan a free kick instead
Mackinnon forced a good stop out of Jamie Smith with a curling effort from the edge of the box
with some of the ICT faithful perhaps wondering if it was going of be one of those days
Billy Mckay also had a golden chance to score with just over 20 minutes left to play when Jamie Smith committed himself
but Mckay’s effort was blocked on the line by an Annan defender
but the academy graduate’s header went wide of the mark
with the scoreline still reading 1-0 to Annan Athletic when the final whistle was blown
