A turquoise tide has swept across the East Midlands
Local politicians of all parties expected Reform to do well
but few thought the results would be this emphatic
Nigel Farage’s party now has big working majorities in both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – and is also comfortably the largest party in Leicestershire
where at times it’s felt like a wake because only Conservative councillors have made it in to the central results hub
but as one local Tory put it to me - “Nigel Farage can’t lead all of these councils from London.”
The party still doesn’t have local group leaders and it’s unclear what the process will be
a deal may have to be struck with the Conservatives to get things done
these new administrations inherit the same problems; increasing demand for social care and special educational needs provision
Other parties point out that few of those elected today have any experience as councillors
Reform UK will have a record in office to defend

The visit provided an opportunity to meet with the local team and understand how Siemens Mobility’s technology transforms rail travel and transport across the UK
Hack was given a tour by Operations Director
engineering and manufacturing operations happening at the site
North West Leicestershire said “It was a pleasure to visit Siemens Mobility’s Ashby de la Zouch facility and see firsthand the innovative work they're doing to shape the future of rail transport solutions

Many runners contributed in raising thousands of pounds for a range of local and national causes
By NOTICEBOARD · 22 April 2025
The Aldi Ashby 20 brought together 1,500 runners, more than 250 volunteers
and local community groups for a day of grit
This year’s event celebrated not only incredible efforts on the course, but also in the causes it supported, raising thousands of pounds and uniting people with a shared mission, to complete a tough 20-mile race, whilst having the opportunity to raise much needed charity funds
the 20-mile race continues along its ethos
a not-for-profit celebration of excellence
this year’s race continued its strong tradition of charitable giving
These include the official charities supported by the race
Teenage Cancer Trust (Aldi’s charity partner)
Among the inspiring participants was Ed Brightling, aged 20, from Leicester
Ed raised an incredible £3,595 for the Teenage Cancer Trust
He ran in honour of his five-year-old niece
who is receiving support from the charity at Leicester Royal Infirmary
after being diagnosed with acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia
Ed said: “I chose the Teenage Cancer Trust as it is a charity close to my heart
"My niece, Wren, was diagnosed with acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia back in October
“The charity provides amazing support for children and young adults with cancer
and the work they do is so highly important
both for children's physical health and their pastoral wellbeing
I struggled in parts especially with blisters and cramps
“I think that doing the race was the best way that I could raise some money for something that is so meaningful to myself
aspires to be recognised as the best volunteer-organised 20-mile race in the country
This helps it to attract local support from community organisations
Huge recognition goes to the key contributors which includes: Ivanhoe Runners
Leicestershire Search and Rescue (LeicSAR)
and East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS)
These groups not only helped deliver the race but also benefited from donations made to support their own good causes
Their presence on the day reflected the heart of what the Ashby 20 represents: a shared commitment to community
It’s this spirit that underpins the event’s wider mission
this being to celebrate sporting excellence
and create a welcoming environment where every runner feels supported
Like any event of this magnitude it takes many months of hard work to organise
Plans are already underway for next year’s event
