joint-top of the south section table alongside Bournemouth with goal difference favouring the Cherries Ethan Brierley whipped a great delivery into the box for Iwan Morgan but the striker's shot was saved well by Josh Shattle in the Barnsley net Brentford opened the scoring soon after that chance as Donovan was in the right place at the right time to place home from a Riley Owen cross into the box It was complete domination from the Bees as further opportunities for Donovan and Morgan followed drawing good saves from the Tykes' goalkeeper after Barnsley were camped in their half for most of the first period A fantastic long ball from Hickey found Maghoma Donovan grabbed his second of the game with a great run which ended in an emphatic finish as he fired into the top corner He had two quick opportunities to get his hat-trick The first was saved well by Shattle and the second was blocked on the line by Ziggy Kozluk Maghoma had a chance to get his second but the midfielder could not connect with the ball after his mazy run and attempted strike That was how the game would end as the young Bees ensured they would join Bournemouth Sheffield United and Burnley in the PDL play-offs Brentford end the league season joint-top of the table with Bournemouth TWO Barnsley schools will be among the first in the country to take part in the government’s free breakfast club scheme Brierley Church of England Primary School and Summerfields Academy in Royston are two of the 750 schools across England to take part Ahead of their roll-out across the rest of England these early adopter clubs will offer 30 minutes of free childcare a healthy breakfast for children and a little more breathing room before the school bell rings Parents will be supported with additional time at the start of the day to attend appointments this means parents will be able to save up to 95 additional hours and £450 per year if their child attends free breakfast clubs every day This amount rises to a saving of up to £8,000 every year when combining Labour’s free breakfast clubs with further support through the expansion of government-funded childcare and a new school uniform cap on branded items said: “It’s great to see that families in Brierley and Royston will be among the first to benefit from the Labour government’s free breakfast clubs “The new clubs at Brierley and Royston show that Labour’s ‘Plan For Change’ is putting children first supporting working families and breaking down barriers to opportunity.” Prime Minister Keir Starmer added: “As a parent I know that the combined pressures of family life and work can often feel impossible to juggle “That is why our manifesto promised to make parents lives easier and put more money in their pockets with free breakfast clubs “Under a year since we came into office “By making these clubs free and universal we’re doing something that previous governments have never done “We’re going further and faster to deliver the change working families deserve “That’s the change this government was elected to deliver.” Reading’s season fell to a bitter end at home to Barnsley The FOMO I’ve had for the last week in the run-up to this game has been almost tangible I’m travelling a bit of the world and are currently in Bali with my better half I know I’ve probably found the one as she’s been completely fine with me harping on about what I’d do to be in RG2 instead right now That pang of jealousy and want increased tenfold when that news dropped this morning and another couple of percentage points when I first saw the packed-out SCL on my laptop screen As incredible and ridiculous as it would’ve been if it had come to fruition and despite how much we craved it and these players deserved it our playoff hunt has always been a side plot in the ongoing drama series that was Reading Football Club this season That is by no means to take away from how big of an achievement it is to even be in with a shout of nicking a playoff spot on the final day I think it’s the best achievement from any team across any league in the country Given what these staff and players have had thrown at them for them to keep coming out and performing week after week is simply staggering the main story has of course been Dai Yongge’s tenure and making sure it’s ended as quickly as possible I can’t sit here and say anything new about what we’ve endured over the last God knows how long Our former owner deserves no more air time or wasted breath from us We can finally go back to being normal football fans again Supporters who don’t fear that their club won’t exist and who don’t genuinely wonder how many times they'll be able to watch their team again and no set of football fans should ever be in that place the overriding feeling among the fans as we reflect on this season It is hard of course to brush off the disappointment of missing out on the playoffs - of which there absolutely is a substantial amount - particularly in the way it transpired Today had all the ingredients for a truly monumental day - takeover announced As someone whose only chance of seeing Reading again this season was a playoff game I must admit typing that out does sting quite a bit But in a season when so often we’ve tried not to let matters off the pitch negatively impact what’s happened on it Although I very much doubt you all need reminding of that For full transparency I started writing this when we went 2-0 down so hearing Tim Dellor and Brian McDermott (king) describe the remaining Barnsley goals as they go in has made it the aftertaste slightly sourer than it needed to be but I’m sure more than a few of you will go and get yourselves a fresh pint at the Purple Turtle to wash that away This team has taken us on a hell of a ride this season Lewis Wing playing every minute of every game Harvey Knibbs popping up time and time again Savage using the SCL pitch as his marathon route Rolls-Royce Tyler Bindon (we’ll miss you kiddo) Ruben Selles lighting the torch and Noel Hunt picking it up and carrying it valiantly - I could go on We were there when the club was riding its biggest wave and you best believe now that we’ve been there when it’s navigating the seabed of it’s rockiest lows but there are brighter days ahead now - and for a long time we didn’t think that would that be case As my other half has just rightly and beautifully pointed out to me after saying I’m pretty gutted I won’t be able to go back to the SCL until next season at least I know that’s something I definitely get to do now Reading have avoided defeat in 16 of their last 18 matches Barnsley have won 1 in their last 11 matches Barnsley have scored more than 1 goal in 3 of 11 matches With Reading battling it out with Leyton Orient for that final spot in the League One playoffs this is definitely a game which could produce drama albeit significantly lower on goal difference even a win here is unlikely to suffice in guaranteeing a spot in the playoffs; rather Reading will likely be relying on results going their way elsewhere sit in 12th position with an admirable 58 points their final position could look significantly worse if they were to suffer a loss in this clash Barnsley can only defend 12th and are unlikely to progress any higher whilst the worst plausible outcome would be to finish in 16th Other than claiming the bragging rights of a top-half finish there is little for Darrell Claarke’s men to play for although that’s certainly not to say they’ll be brushed aside We also have our EFL Final Day free bets live now — see Reading enter this clash as merited favourites priced at 1.73 - a price we’re comfortable backing them at and all indications are that they should be up for the challenge Barnsley have been priced at 3.75 to win the corner match bet They’ve managed this in 56% of league games who have exceeded their opponent’s total in just 31% Neither side’s record is affected by whether they play at home or away Barnsley have averaged 1.64 corners more than Reading Reading have demonstrated remarkable consistency in recent times although their run-in has been plagued by disappointing draws A more recent stunt to their promotion hopes came as Reading narrowly fell in a 1-0 loss against Lincoln rendering the possibility of a goal-difference tie break significantly more likely notably putting five past Mansfield two weeks ago despite maintaining just 35% of possession conceding only three goals across their last six in the league managed their sole win over the last 11 games They’ve picked up one point from their three games since Barnsley have consistently struggled to maintain the form they found in the early part of the season they’ve shifted to a dynamic more focused on controlling possession although they have often struggled to convert this possession into chances This has been particularly evident over their last 11 games over which period The Tykes have managed to score more than one goal on just 3 occasions spectators were treated to a fascinating 2-2 draw with Barnsley arguably the better of the pair but since his January move to Wrexham prompted by the clubs' ownership issues Reading have been significantly less efficient up front That result was pretty consistent with the typical expected outcome in clashes between these sides with three of the last four ending in draws For a longer read see our EFL Final Day Permutations Guide as well as the rest of our EFL Betting Tips & Bet Builders * I recommend waiting for confirmed team line-ups before placing any bets * make a decent save low down Tipped a flick over the bar in the 19th minute to make sure Reading didn’t concede and followed it up in the next play by bursting out to clean up a weak back pass Made an absolutely priceless save in first-half injury time getting his full body low quickly to block a huge amount of the goal from a one-on-one Filmed a late audition tape for the upcoming Superman film with a flying punch out from his net just after the break Couldn’t keep out the hard low shot for Barnsley’s opener but was forced to save from a player in acres of space and room to pick out a finish Kept the scoring to four away goals when he made a big one-on-one stop following some poor defending from Camara This would have been a heavier defeat were it not for Pereira allowing the man in and a dangerous cross to wrap across the front of the goal Stepped forward well just before the half-hour mark nipping the ball away and skipping around a defender before earning a free kick Caught very much out of position for the opening goal and was taken off five minutes later for Andy Yiadom Almost got on the end of Wing’s early set play into the box Caused danger afterwards with his long throw Dallied on the ball a little too long midway through the first half and dribbled into trouble conceding a dangerous attack to Barnsley but also filled the first half with clearances Given a two-vs-one to defend for the opening Barnsley goal which he was always going to struggle with Not tight enough to the goalscorers for the Tykes’ second and third goals and generally didn’t look as assured all round as he usually does Alert to cut out a dangerous cross in the 10th minute Cleaned up his own mistake in the 15th minute when he was caught on the halfway line Forced to deliver long a lot of times in a scrappy first half A tough second half defensively and unlucky to see his clearance fall to a Barnsley player for 4-1 Not at fault overall as other defenders around him Stepped up into the left half space numerous times when Barnsley were forced back but found himself in his own half a lot in the opening half Allowed the ball to drop over his head for Barnsley’s second and was unable to stop the cross across the face of goal A difficult afternoon for him defensively and he was withdrawn for the returning Jeriel Dorsett in the 82nd minute Forced the ‘keeper into a good save in the opening five minutes when the ball pinballed out after a corner Couldn’t find the target with a free-kick he got up and over the wall a little after Stepped in well defensively deep in his own box when Barnsley provided some threat early on Made one particularly impressive challenge from behind when Reading were caught out by Mbengue being out of position Got Reading back into the game in the second half showing good anticipation to run onto the ball that pinballed into the box and slotting it calmly into the bottom corner Essentially added an assist late on when his inswinging corner was eventually put into the net by Billy Bodin Showed that he was up for it in the opening moments of the game racing into the far corner to win the ball high up Made a fantastic delivery into the box in the 25th minute but had unfortunately drifted offside Whipped a decent free-kick just beyond the post on the half-hour mark Not impactful enough in a second half in which Barnsley increasingly took control Helped Reading drive the ball out of their half a few times early on when Barnsley had reached Reading’s box Almost scored from a low Savage cross in the first half Like Savage he didn’t impact the game enough in the second half Managed to get into space out on the right in the early stages to deliver a cross into the box but nobody was on his wavelength at the near post Competed with his full-back well and began to get the measure of him as the first half went on Switched to the left wing shortly before the hour mark but didn’t make much of an impact in his remaining time on the pitch before coming off for Mamadi Camara on 82 minutes Made his first good contribution in the 17th minute knocking down a ball while being knocked around himself and springing an attack with a clever flick Hustled and outfought his man to win space for a shot in the 35th minute but couldn’t turn the volley on target Started another attack by sheltering a ball that was played down the side of the box Won the ball back for Wing’s goal for Reading midway through the second half with a sliding challenge to block the clearance Worked hard but generally lacked service himself though in a difficult afternoon all round Reached the byline in the first 15 minutes but was muscled off it easily A little wasteful when given a chance to run at the opposition by Wareham in the first half Produced a nice knockdown for Knibbs to chase just after the half-time break Unable to produce much more than that though and found himself withdrawn for Bodin just before the hour mark Came into the game and almost immediately found himself booked after shunting down a man running into Reading’s half Looked pretty composed after then though and looked to get forward confidently down the right wing looking positive in the half-hour or so he had on the pitch Played in Wing for the Royals’ first of the afternoon and netted the last goal of the season when slamming home from close range for 2-4 None were on the pitch long enough to get a grade though it was great to see Dorsett back from injury at long last Who was your MOTM against Barnsley? Vote below or through this link A BARNSLEY care home which had been plunged into special measures by the Care Quality Commission after inspectors found a plethora of issues has been inspected again provides accommodation and personal care for older people They were inspected by the CQC in November and then December and inspectors subsequently placed the home into special measures to ‘protect people’ Barnsley Council withdrew their funding in December and the CQC found breaches of regulation in how well they were managing medicines The issues ranged from residents in dirty clothes to staff not being recruited ‘safely’ Warning notices were sent to the care home - which cared for 25 people at the time of the first inspection and 13 during the second - and a recent inspection has found that the facility has slightly improved It has now been rated ‘requires improvement’ - the second-lowest of the CQC’s grades Only six people were using the service at the time of the inspection last month A report states: “The service is a residential care at home service providing support to older people “The service can support up to 40 people at the time of our assessment six people were living at the service “This service has been in special measures since November 6 2024 “Since our last assessment the local authority was no longer contracting with Orchard Views “The provider demonstrated improvements have been made “The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions this service is no longer in special measures.” A number of changes have been made at the care home and although concerns have been raised by inspectors The report added: “At our last assessment we found breaches in regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and governance “We were previously concerned about the management of risks “While we found some improvements had been made there were ongoing concerns in relation to governance and managing risks posed to people “The provider remained in breach of these regulations “The service is now rated requires improvement “Since our last assessment the provider had recruited a new manager and we received positive feedback about them “The new manager had plans in place to implement new systems and processes “Staff told us the culture and communication had improved “We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.” inspectors did raise a number of concerns regarding care “While people expressed general satisfaction with their care and treatment our assessment found care did not meet the expected standards,” the report added “There was a lack of stimulation and meaningful activities for people “People’s care records did not always contain accurate and up to date information meaning risks posed to people were not always mitigated “The environment did not always promote safety and we found some staff did not always promote safe infection control practices “People were supported by enough staff and people told us staff were kind and caring.” Barnsley finished their season with a 4-2 win at promotion-chasing Reading Stephen Humphrys and Jon Russell netted early in the second half then The hosts pulled one back late on but missed out on sixth place while the Reds finished 12th Humphrys returned from injury to replace the benched Adam Phillips Humphrys saw a long-range shot easily saved in the opening minute then Reading’s Amadou Mbengue scuffed a good chance from a free-kick and Joe Gauci got down well to his right to keep out a 20-yard shot by Lewis Wing Jon Russell saw a volley tipped over by the home goalkeeper after Josh Earl flicked on Marc Roberts’ long throw from the left Reading should have taken the lead on 25 minutes but Harvey Knibbs somehow turned the ball over the bar with goal gaping a few yards out after meeting Wing’s low cross from the left Barry Cotter should have put the visitors in front in first half injury-time when he was put clean through by a clever Davis Keillor-Dunn pass but his shot was saved by Joel Pereira diving to his right The visitors took the lead early in the second half Josh Earl swapped passes with Luca Connell then had plenty of space to run up the left wing before slipping in Humphrys whose shot from a tight angle when through the goalkeeper and in Dexter Lembikisa’s excellent pass picked out Cotter on the right of the box and he volleyed a low cross across the face of goal for Russell to turn in at a tight angle The hosts pulled one back midway through the second half when substitute Billy Bodin played through Wing who was being played onside by Lembikisa and could find the bottom left corner one-on-one with Gauci Jayden Wareham shot well wide from just outside the box but it was Barnsley who scored again Russell received a pass from Cotter just outside the box and brilliantly slipped in Bland on the right and the teenage got his first assist by picking out Keillor-Dunn to turn in from close range The fourth goal saw Lembikisa win the ball high up the pitch and cross which was half cleared but Keillor-Dunn smashed a shot from the right of the box into the bottom left corner made his professional debut as a late replacement for Keillor-Dunn Substitute Max Watters should have made it five when he robbed Mamadi Camara of the ball and went clean through but was denied by the goalkeeper Bodin smashed in from close range in injury-time after a corner hit Russell who almost added a fifth but his shot was touched onto the post by the goalkeeper Reading (4-3-3): Periera; Rushesha (Yiadom 57mins) PLANS have been submitted to convert a former town centre nightclub into a branch of a national restaurant chain could soon be turned into a Pepe’s branch if plans are deemed acceptable An application was submitted to Barnsley Council’s planning board this week for the ground floor of the venue to be turned into a 70-seater restaurant A report states: “The existing site is a three-storey building currently vacant on all floors but previously used as a nightclub “The site is located on the main Peel Street which has a number of high street shops and eateries leading towards the town centre “The proposed restaurant is part of a franchise business serving healthy grilled food with over 200 stores nationwide “The proposed change of use would be beneficial for the area as the existing building is derelict and in a bad state and the proposed restaurant will bring a well-established brand into the town and regenerate the building and attract customers to the town centre.” Nine neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date Potentially the final game of the season that could define our fate in the Football League all together Reading face Barnsley but will keep one eye on Huddersfield Town vs Leyton Orient Barnsley have only won one of their last five having most recently lost to bottom of the table Shrewsbury Town and due to their recent injuries I’m not expecting them to do much in this game Huddersfield have lost seven of their last eight games and are looking very unlikely to do anything In this preview I will mention all the possibilities that would mean Reading end up in the playoffs talk about the matches that could await them do one final ‘players who have played for both’ There are a few things that could happen for Reading to end up in the playoffs is that Reading win at least 10-0 against Barnsley and Leyton Orient only win by one goal at Huddersfield This would swing the goal difference +1 in Reading’s favour and even though we’d be on the same points as Orient Number two is that Reading win and Orient draw with Huddersfield This would put Reading on 78 points and Leyton Orient on 76 Number three is that Reading draw and Leyton Orient lose This would put Reading on 76 and leave Leyton Orient on 75 if Reading lose by just one goal and Leyton Orient lose at least 10-0 it would mean Reading being +1 up on Leyton Orient and making the playoffs If any of these scenarios happen then Reading would face either Charlton Athletic Stockport face Wycombe on the final day so it is likely that one of them will be our opponents I would rather face Wycombe than Stockport as Stockport have done the double over Reading - the first team to do so this season Wycombe haven’t looked great over the past few games so I would expect Stockport to be the team who finish third which would be an amazing season for them considering they were also promoted last season I mentioned four last time so here are another four Jamie Cureton managed 108 games at Reading Vito Mannone was a very underrated goalkeeper for most clubs he has represented he had a save percentage of 71% in the 47 games he played across 2017/18 and 2018/19 Mannone played two games for Barnsley and had an 81.8% save percentage scoring four and assisting one from centre-back Playing 59 times for the Royals between 2009 and 2011 he netted two goals and came up with 10 assists Before joining Reading he played 121 games for Barnsley where he racked up 27 goals and 15 assists I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in getting me this far and thank you for making my first season so successful I already have a few ideas for next season and I am all for taking you guys’ advice as well Thank you to The Tilehurst End themselves for allowing me the opportunity to write this year The team need to show up just as much as a packed-out SCL do who was robbed of a place in the EFL’s team of the season Amadou Mbengue and Tivonge Rushesha will be the defence as they have been solid this season so far The midfield is still going to be without Michael Craig and Ben Elliott so Charlie Savage Lewis Wing and Harvey Knibbs will have to do it all over again Lastly the attack has been chopping and changing all season and this is where I will make the only change Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan hasn’t been up to scratch recently and I think Adrian Akande should be given a game to show what he can do alongside Jayden Wareham and Chem Campbell Score prediction: Huddersfield 2-2 Leyton Orient We can all hope and that’s what I’m doing in this one 3rd May (3pm kick-off).\nYou’re just a few clicks away from securing your seat in RG2 as Reading look to secure 6th place and a spot in the play-offs with a win over The Tykes.  level on points with 6th place Leyton Orient the Royals must better Leyton Orient\'s result as they play away at Huddersfield The match Reading fell at the final hurdle in their gallant bid to reach the League One play-offs as they lost 4-2 at home to Barnsley The Royals had needed to better Leyton Orient's result on the last day of the season to creep into the top six But the defeat – and Orient's 4-1 win at Huddersfield – meant it was the Londoners who finished sixth and took the final play-off slot A scrappy first half at the SCL Stadium finished goalless but the visitors took a stranglehold on the game with goals from Stephen Humphrys and Jon Russell in a five-minute spell soon after the interval Lewis Wing reduced the deficit after 67 minutes but Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn struck in the 79th and 85th minutes – taking his goal tally to 19 this season – to compound the hosts' misery Billy Bodin's late goal proved a mere consolation for the Royals on a day when their long-running takeover saga was finally ended With prospective new owner Rob Couhig watching from the directors' box Reading made a positive start through two early efforts from Wing Barnsley goalkeeper Joe Gauci made a fine save from Wing's low drive then could only look on as the midfielder's 20-yard free-kick drifted narrowly wide with home keeper Joel Pereira having to make a smart stop to deny Barry Cotter The Royals' attacking threat became increasingly ragged and with Orient leading 2-1 at Huddersfield at half-time their play-off chances began to look remote Those chances seemed non-existent when Barnsley struck twice Humphrys guiding home from a tight angle in the 52nd minute and Russell doing similar in the 57th minute from a low Cotter cross tucking home neatly after poor Tykes defensive work but Keillor-Dunn pounced twice from close range to effectively settle the issue Despite substitute Bodin's added-time effort Registered office: 1 London Bridge Street, SE1 9GF. A ROW between Barnsley Council’s planning bosses and a couple who have been seeking permission to build an innovative new home has finally been decided on by a government body. Applicants Chris and Sue Barton submitted their bid to transform a patch of land on Tower Street, Worsbrough, which would have resulted in a four-bedroom ‘passivhaus’ - focused on achieving extremely high energy efficiency - being created. It was then knocked back by the council, who claimed the plan was not in keeping with the area due to the ‘incongruous materials’ proposed. The wrangle then resulted in the couple lodging an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate, which has the power to overrule the local authority if the refusal is found unjust. However, the government body sided with the council and also ruled out the couple’s claim for costs associated with the knocked-back application and their subsequent appeal. A report, compiled by inspector Jack Smith, said the proposal was ‘alien’ to the area. “The street-facing elevation would be void of expression except for a small number of windows - as such, the building would turn away from the street scene, with no front door located in a visible position when viewed from Tower Street,” it added. “This would contrast with the predominant character of active frontages of the properties found in the immediate locality where front access doors are visible from the street scene. “Taking all of these adverse elements of the proposed design into account, they would be further exacerbated by the elevated position of the proposed dwelling. “This would subsequently increase the visibility of the building along Tower Street at various points and from positions within Columbia Street to the rear of the appeal site. “The appellants suggest that these proposals represent a high level of energy efficiency which are innovative. “When viewed from Tower Street, the modern form of the proposed building would appear unusual and alien, due to its promotion of an unfamiliar roof design and overall shape. “This form would be a significant departure from the traditional appearance found within the immediate locality. “On approach to the proposed building, the unfamiliar roof design and alien architectural form of the whole building would be apparent due to the space afforded between the proposed building and the neighbouring property.” The couple argued that the building would have a high level of efficiency, achieved through its design, construction method and use of materials. The commitment to achieving a certified passivhaus standard was a matter to which Mr Smith ascribed ‘moderate weight’ in his decision. “In my overall consideration of the scheme, these benefits are modest. “They do not outweigh the harm I have found in relation to character and appearance and in providing an appropriate highway access. “There are no material considerations of such weight or significance before me as to justify a decision otherwise than in accordance with the development plan. “To conclude, I am not persuaded that the local authority has acted unreasonably in the substantive and procedural matters. “As such, unnecessary or wasted expense has not been demonstrated - therefore an award of costs on this issue is not justified.” In front of a jam-packed Select Car Leasing Stadium, The Royals started the game kicking towards the South Stand and Club1871. It was The Royals who started quickly. Just three minutes in, Lewis Wing tested Gauci in the Barnsley goal with a low half volley from the edge of the box. The resulting corner was easily cleared by The Tykes backline. As the clock ticked towards the end of the first half, the best chance so far fell to a red shirt. Barry Cotter found himself with space in the Royals box and looked destined to score, however Joel Pereira threw his body on the line to keep the scores level. The half started evenly, with both sides pushing forward. The deadlock was broken on the 52nd minute as a break down the Barnsley left unleashed Stephen Humphrys who was able to powerfully slot the ball under Pereira and put the visitors ahead. Just moments later the advantage was doubled. Barnsley found themselves with acres of space down the Royals left flank, allowing Cotter to slide a low cross to the back post, where Jon Russell was waiting to force the ball home. It wasn’t long before the Royals had pulled on back. Barnsley struggled to clear their lines and the ball bounced kindly for Lewis Wing who found himself onside with just the goalkeeper to beat, making no mistake from just inside the box. 1-2. The Royals effort was clear as they pushed and pushed for an equaliser. However, it was Barnsley who struck next. A series of intricate passes saw the ball work it’s way to Davis Keillor-Dunn, who diverted the ball home from close range in what was a sucker punch for The Royals. Just moments later The Tykes struck again. A cross came from the right and despite being partially cleared, Keillor-Dunn reacted quickly to strike for the visitors. The Royals, as ever, kept fighting until the end and Billy Bodin reacted quickly to poke home from a corner and finish the scores. Hundreds of people have been flocking to the event, which takes place at the Penistone Showground, for years. However, it did not take place last year due to a number of reasons - including a lack of volunteers. But organisers have vowed the event will return better than ever on the weekend of June 7 - and the Red Devils will make sure that rings true when they arrive in the town on the Sunday. The world famous Red Devils are all serving members of the Army Parachute Regiment and their military training allows them to push the boundaries when it comes to displays. Volunteer Jill Goddard told the Chronicle: “It will be the first time they have dropped in this area and they are unlikely to come again so a massive thing for Barnsley. “They are coming with a full team of eight parachute jumpers, 7,000ft flag and smoke to do a full display. “They bring a stand with VR headsets for kids to see what a skydive is like and they will do a demo of a parachute pack-up too. “It is subject to weather conditions on the day.” Tickets are available at www.penistonegala.com. Fabio Jalo is expected to miss pre-season and some of the next campaign after knee surgery. The 19-year-old forward had broken into the Barnsley starting 11 recently but came off hurt on Easter Monday. Head coach Conor Hourihane said: "He’s going to be out for a while. It’s a complicated one and I feel for him. He would have been a big part of my plans going forward. I don't expect to see him in pre-season or the start of the season. "I am gutted for him and he’s gutted. He put in really good performances and with the ability he’s got and the way I want to play, he suits it down to the ground. He's had another knock back but he has to show the right mentality now to hit the rehab head on and come back in a better way." THE family of a young mum who died on Easter Sunday say they were left overwhelmed by the support they received during a minute’s applause in memory of their daughter at a football match last weekend. Alex Warden, 29, was ‘funny, bubbly’ and loved by all those that knew her. And her mum, Alison Fitzgerald, told the Chronicle that she was also a real fighter due to what was going on behind the scenes. Alex had been fighting a rare liver disease - auto immune hepatitis - since she was just eight years old, but on the surface she was just like any other loving mum. Alison said: “When she was three years old up until she was eight she used to do modelling. “She was on the front covers of the Sunday magazines and Index catalogues. “At eight years old she came out of school at Christmas and looked a bit yellow. “We took her straight to the doctors who took blood tests and then we got a phone call asking us to go straight to Sheffield Children’s Hospital. “No-one knew what was happening but after a week she was diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis - which was a really rare liver disease back then.” Alex began taking a series of medication and Alison says she was almost a ‘guinea pig’ due to the lack of knowledge around the disease. She gave birth to her son, Rocco - ten weeks prematurely - when she was 20 years old. Alison added: “He was in ICU for ten weeks and it was a surprise for us when he came home on New Year’s Eve. “But that’s when she developed another rare liver disease - Budd-Chairi syndrome. “Alex never did anything by half - she managed to get two rare liver diseases attacking the same area in the same person. “She had stents fitted but it just went downhill from there. “She was diagnosed with celiac disease which she joked about because that wasn’t rare.” Alex began to deteriorate in 2019 and had three liver transplants - the first two unsuccessful but a third worked until she died last month. And on February 6 this year Alex was transferred to Leeds where she was diagnosed with disseminated invasive aspergillosis - a rare life-threatening infection that resulted in her death. But Alison said her daughter was always such a fighter and despite her illnesses, she never let anyone know it would get her down. “We were told three times that she wouldn’t make it through the night and on two occasions she did,” she added. “She was such a fighter but no one would have ever known what she was going through. “She was really bubbly, funny and so kind. “But she was also very private - she didn’t like people knowing her business. “She’d always put a brave face on no matter how hard it got.” Alex’s son Rocco is an under-nine player with Wombwell Town and she spent many hours there supporting him and his teammates. A minute’s applause was held in the 29th minute of the senior team’s play-off final win against Dearne and District on Saturday - and Alison was in attendance with Rocco, Alex’s dad Brett and brother Ayden. “Alex used to love going down with Rocco,” Alison said. “Even when she was poorly she’d bring down a chair so no one would know what was happening. “We were there with the family on Saturday. “Our Rocco had a T-shirt with a picture of Alex on. “That’s when I couldn’t stop crying when I saw him holding it up. “I’m so proud of him - he’s so brave.” Alex’s funeral will take place on Friday, May 9, at Barnsley Crematorium followed by a celebration of her life at Locke Park Club. People are asked to wear orange - Alex’s favourite colour - or any colourful attire they feel comfortable in. In lieu of flowers the family are asking for any donations to go to the Liver Foundation. array of female colleagues resigned as a nurse at the Gawber Road site in November 2022 Carter was the subject of an investigation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council relating to sexual abuse and harassment of his female colleagues A panel has proven more than 20 charges against the former nurse while he worked for Barnsley Hospital in 2019 The charged included unfastening a colleague’s trousers making sexual contact and making suggestive comments Carter was arrested in July 2019 on suspicion of rape He was suspended by the trust and resigned before an internal investigation could conclude he was found not guilty at a criminal trial which was released following a month-long hearing states: “The panel considered the seriousness of the charge and were of the view that Mr Carter demonstrated an alarming escalation in his sexually-motivated behaviour “It (the panel) determined that it is at the highest level of seriousness “The panel found Mr Carter’s conduct to be deplorable the panel were of the view that his advances were unwanted and concluded that his actions amounted to serious misconduct.” Carter also winked at and hugged Colleague A made sexual gestures towards her and sent her an unsolicited explicit picture of himself He was also found to have kissed several colleagues on the neck and pushed a colleague onto a bed opened their legs and pretended to give them oral sex The report added that if he was ever questioned about his behaviour he would begin to act like a ‘petulant child’ Colleague E described how Mr Carter tried to kiss their neck and Colleague E moved away and said ‘what you doing?’,” the report added “Colleague E described how they were alone in the office at the time “The attempted kiss was never spoken about and interpreted as ‘a clumsy advance’ where Mr Carter was ‘trying his luck’ “Colleague E went on to explain in evidence that if Mr Carter were challenged he became ‘narky’ and acted like ‘a petulant child’ Carter was struck off the register and banned from ever working as a nurse again said that Carter’s conduct involved an ‘imbalance of power The report added: “He submitted that Mr Carter was dishonest in his actions honesty is of central importance to a nurse and that allegations of dishonesty are always of the utmost seriousness “He also submitted that it is for the panel to consider the kind of dishonest conduct that has taken place and whether Mr Carter should be allowed to remain on the register “Mr Edwards submitted that Mr Carter deliberately breached the professional duty of candour by attempting to conceal his misconduct during the local investigation especially as it could cause harm to patients under his care “He submitted that by Mr Carter attempting to deny sending an image of his penis he also deliberately breached his professional duty of candour “There is clear evidence of deep seated attitudinal issues and that his behaviour was of the most serious kind and degrading “Mr Carter has failed to demonstrate any remorse or insight “The panel therefore imposed an interim suspension order for a period of 18 months to cover the 28-day appeal period and any period which an appeal may be heard then the interim suspension order will be replaced by the substantive striking-off order 28 days after Mr Carter is sent the decision of this hearing in writing.” A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospital said the trust has signed the NHS Sexual Safety Charter since Carter’s behaviour in 2019 They added: “We have systems and processes in place to support staff in raising concerns “The trust the original PA rig and mixing desk to screen a famed Pink Floyd gig at Pompeii in Italy. A newly-restored film, which shows the iconic band’s performance from 1972, will be shown on April 24. In conjunction with CH Vintage Audio, Parkway Cinema, on Eldon Street, will be recreating the original huge PA rig at the cinema and mixing the sound live during the show. Digitally remastered in 4K from the original 35mm footage, with enhanced audio newly mixed by Steven Wilson, the upcoming theatrical release is the ‘definitive version’ of this pioneering film, according to Parkway owner Rob Younger. He said: “The film has been meticulously hand restored, frame-by-frame, from the original 35mm cut negative - discovered in five dubiously labelled cans within Pink Floyd’s own archives. “This momentous breakthrough unearthed the very film that rolled through the cameras during those sweltering days amidst the ruins of Pompeii over 50 years ago.” Artistic Director and Choreographer: Rhiannon Faith The idea of the set design is that by creating a familiar space – a pub – we see one another and for this moment we are all connected. We live in a time when world events can seem so overpowering and heavy and the news just weighs us down that we can feel pulled apart and all we want to do is be on our own and bury our heads in the sand. This production encourages all of us to come together to share the weight of another and to know that by doing so we are not alone. Fin (Finetta Sidgwick) worries about the state of the world. She has anxiety about the future, about climate change and humanitarian crisis and struggles with constant feelings of responsibility and guilt. She reflects on current conflicts around the world  mentioning bombing of hospitals and violence against children. Dick (Dominic Coffey) is happy go lucky and loves being in charge of the games, quizzes and karaoke. He will do anything for anyone, the life and soul of the party, but underneath the smile he struggles too. He has a little baby boy and the pressure and fear of being a parent bothers him constantly. His partner suffers with post-natal depression and his grandmother has dementia and he feels the responsibility to them both deeply. Sammy’s (Sam Ford) dad left when he was young and he waits and hopes that he will show up one day to have a pint with him and tell him that he’s proud of him. Sara (Sara Turner) is the landlady of the “pub” and takes care of everyone – she is the glue who holds us all together. But she too has a lot on her plate. She has been diagnosed with cancer and during the evening she learns that it has spread. We see her processing this information and becoming less stable, both physically and emotionally. She has to admit that she needs the others’ support now. The other three performers are Marta Beccatini, one of the dancers, and musicians India Merrett (violin) and Paul Higham (guitar).
