An East Riding health director says Bridlington Hospital could be an ideal location for more minor operations to ease pressure on the NHS
Bridlington Town played out their final NPL East game of the season with a 2-0 defeat to play-off contenders Belper Town.
Head Coach Mike Thompson made only one change to his starting eleven
replacing Benn Lewis for Bobby Attree.
Bridlington were slow to get into the match and it was the visitors who had the first opportunity of the match, when Louis Keenan fired in a corner close to the goal line of which Bolton Makwedze cleared away.
The Seasiders appealed for a handball in the penalty area from a Belper defender
However, once again it was Belper Town to open the scoring from a Jack Broadhead free kick and Ioan Evans headed the ball into the back of the Seasiders net.
Belper Town were starting to take charge of the game
when Broadhead whipped in a cross to Kevin Bastos
but his header went straight into Jack Hall’s gloves
The Seasiders needed to be patient for their first chance
but his cross to Leverett was deflected for a corner.
The bisitors started the second-half hungry to extend their lead, in which they did so when substitute Jack Watson made it 2-0 from the edge of the box
Moments later any chance of a comeback by the seasiders took a huge blow as Simon Heslop was shown his 2nd Yellow card of the afternoon
Belper attacked once more through Jaanai Gordon who fired in a low-driven shot from inside the penalty area wide of the post.
Thompson made his first substitution of the game replacing Sam Leverett for Nathan Dyer.
With an instant impact on entering the field
Dyer’s free kick was met by Tom Allan who headed the ball to Earl who saw his shot just wide of the post
As Thompson Rang the changes to his side local lad Billy Ripley replaced Michael Coulson.
Jack Hall denied a Watson counterattack for a corner, then Dyer’s shot from an Ahmed Salam pass was scuffed over the bar.
With the game entering its closing stages, Thompson made a double substitution when Ryan Bemrose replaced Sam Kay and keeper Jack Hall off for Ben Voase.
And it wasn’t long before Voase was called into action when Gordon caught the Seasiders on the break, a diving Voase sent the ball to go for a corner.
Manager Mike Thompson had to say this after the match: “It was difficult to replicate the euphoria I think of Monday
that we didn’t want to be the team wearing flip flops
we also asked them to put their energy into it to make sure that it was a contest.”
Despite this result Bridlington Town finish the season 18th in the NPL East

Henry Brothers Construction is building a new £15m community health centre in Belper for the Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust
It is being built on the site of the former Belper Clinic
as part of the Babington Hospital site in the town
and will accommodate all existing outpatient and clinical services provided at Babington Hospital
procured through the Pagabo major works framework
Project architect is Race Cottam Associates
civil and structural engineer is Eastwood Consulting Engineers and mechanical & electrical engineer is EP Consulting
A ground breaking event was attended by representatives from Henry Brothers and the trust
Trust chief executive Tracy Allen said: “Back in 2017 we first started talking publicly about the need for new community health facilities for Belper and it’s been a long and eventful seven years to reach this point
involving several changes of plan and a pandemic which put everything on hold
to be able to put the first ceremonial spade in the ground to start construction is a really fantastic moment
It’s a tribute to the many people who have helped us reach this point
I can’t wait to see the architect’s plans come off the page as the building takes shape and becomes a purpose-designed environment for local people to receive a range of community health services for years to come.”

Working closely with one of the Midlands leading design agencies ‘Mayers Design’ this year long project was one that would test and innovate
Derbyshire to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Co-op and Welsh textile manufacturer
social reformer and a founder of the co-operative movement Robert Owen
In 1817 Robert Owen formulated the goal of an eight hour working day with the slogan: “eight hours labour
eight hours rest.” And this is where the clock design was born
The concept was to have a 24 hour dial around the outside of the clock feature
broken up to show the eight hour day splits
Behind this would be two panels rotating in opposing directions with artwork depicting Robert Owen
only becoming clear as they align on the hour
Timber patterns and moulds were produced by our in-house pattern maker
off which GRP bezel elements were produced
The dials were produced using our in-house laser cutter
Production and assembly of this bespoke clock took time as there were many elements to it
bespoke three hand movement and controllers to keep everything in synch
This exciting project culminated in Good Directions installing the clock with much interest from staff and local residence
The clock was unveiled during a celebration including local school bands and is hoped to be a continual reminder to all that there should be a good work-life balance for all
as well as being a celebration of a true visionary who helped shape our modern lives
