A glorious morning to start the Bank Holiday weekend at Bexley parkrun on what was my 100th run at Bexley parkrun ironically one month after I had completed the London marathon despite people advising I should include it as part of my training regime I had believed it was a timed run for elite runners so had always ignored it until one Saturday morning I drove past Danson Park and saw a stream of runners and as my post marathon hangover had subsided I signed up for the following weekend After my first run on 28th May 2016 I called my son straight away to tell him that I'll be signing him up too as I thoroughly enjoyed it Fast forward 9 years and I have completed 380 parkruns at 143 different events across 8 countries and as far as Singapore You can safely say we both caught the parkrun bug Given the plethora of parkruns in the area as well as my addiction to run a new parkrun and complete the parkrun challenges I only tend to visit Bexley half a dozen times a year now of all the events I have done I still find myself saying Bexley is one of the best events especially on a bright sunny morning that we had today Danson House on top of the hill and the sun shining off the lake make for a spectacular photo and the course has everything with a mixture of grass On to today's 620th run and we congratulated the participants of both the London and Manchester marathons during the run brief and was reminded that next year it will be even slimmer to get into London as over 1.1m had applied - sigh The natural post marathon spike resulted in the highest spring turnout since before Covid with 485 participants 26 of whom were running their first parkrun - Welcome there were 37 attending Bexley for the first time Given the lovely underfoot conditions on the grass and through the woods it resulted in 60 people achieving their personal best on the course - Well done There were 11 milestones and congratulations to And it was wonderful to welcome Dave Lake back to Bexley after his recent knee surgery © parkrun Limited (Company Number: 07289574) No part of this site may be reproduced in whole or in part in any manner without the permission of the copyright owner The council highlighted the peak rate charges as being ‘of particular concern’ as they only apply when travelling northbound between 6-10am and southbound between 4-7pm This means that Bexley residents who have registered for Auto Pay — Transport for London’s (TfL) automated toll payment system— would end up paying £4 for each crossing in a day For commuters travelling in opposite directions — southbound between 6-10am and northbound between 4-7pm — the charge is discounted as an off-peak rate of £1.50 each way it requested a ‘thorough assessment of the economic consequences prior to any charges being finalised’ but TfL approved the charges with ‘few changes to their original proposal and with very little benefit to Bexley’ said: ‘This is a real kick in the teeth for our residents and small businesses who are being treated unfairly The higher charge for travelling South to North from boroughs such as Bexley to Newham needs to be urgently addressed with a more comprehensive package of concessions ‘Residents and businesses in Bexley have no choice but to use the tunnels given the lack of modern public transport links serving the borough and should not be discriminated against for doing so 'We have long been campaigning for better transport links and for a broader commitment on public transport investment but this has been ignored.’ Highways presents...Cargill from Hemming Group Video on Vimeo Privacy Policy Terms and Conditions Sign up for the Highways on Friday newsletter Arts Trust's Silent Roller Disco returns again this year A collection of free festivals hosted in parks and squares across Bexley and Greenwich is set to return this summer Local families can expect live music and theatre performances and a wide range of street food across numerous events Venues hosting the Summer in the Park picnics include Danson House The first of the series of picnics will take place from 11am – 4pm on the 22nd June Maryon Park Picnic: from 1pm – 6pm on Sunday 29th June Gallions Park Picnic: from 1-6 on Saturday 5th July Kids can improve their plate spinning and tight-rope skills with circus workshops held on the 22nd June Greenwich Park Picnic: held on Saturday 12th July and Sunday 13th July from 10am – 6pm Attendees of the Greenwich Park picnic will receive performances from Aiden Grimshaw Families are encouraged to bring their own refreshments blankets and chairs to enjoy alongside open air theatre and music performances Each Summer in the Park picnic will take place outdoors and the events are not ticketed The flagship Silent Disco ‘SkateJam’ and Street Food festival will return at a larger scale this year taking place over four Sundays from May to August in Cygnet Square Beginners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join in Free skates are provided and professional skaters will be overseeing the operation This grassroots initiative won the 2025 London Sports Community Impact Award recognised for its work in contributing to a 25% drop in youth-related crime during programme weekends as well as enhancing fitness and reducing social isolation The key dates to attend the free skating events are: We'll never send you spam or share your email address Find out more in our Privacy Policy Please enter your username or email address to reset your password particularly for taking time out on Christmas Day and for being so wonderful and encouraging And also well done to these folks completing the following milestones: George Puttick and Shiran Sideek -
