Emergency services were called to properties in Bishopbriggs at around 12.50am. Emergency services were called to properties on Colston Drive and John Marshall Drive in Bishopbriggs at around 12.50am following reports of a fire. No one was injured in either blaze, however, the deliberate fires are believed to be linked to a feud between criminal organisations which ignited last month. An investigation into both incidents is ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.50am on Monday, April 14, 2025, we were called to a report of a fire at a property on Colston Drive in Bishopbriggs. “Emergency services attended, the fire was extinguished and there were no reports of injuries. “It’s being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.” The force added: “Around 12.50am on Monday, April 14, 2025, we were called to a report of a fire at a property on John Marshall Drive in Bishopbriggs. The targeted fires come one day after a home invasion on Egilsay Crescent in Milton where a 72-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy were attacked. Both were taken to hospital for treatment. Violence has escalated in Edinburgh and Glasgow with a spate of deliberate fires and reported shootings linked to warring gangs. One home was firebombed last week on Ashgill Road in Glasgow, mere minutes away from the most recent spree of attacks. Police have seized weapons, drugs, and a stolen vehicle as part of raids. In April, six different addresses were targeted with deliberate fires in five days in Glasgow and the city’s surrounding suburbs. A number arrests have been made in connection with the gang feud which has spread from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Richard Ordish, 18, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with wilful fireraising, possessing an explosive substance with the intent to endanger life or property and attempted murder. He is due back in court within the next eight days. A 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with reset of a stolen motor vehicle. A 34-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle. Martin Hume, 38, struck John Conway in Bishopbriggs on the night of January 20, 2023. Hume was behind the wheel of a Kia Sportage on Auchinairn Road at the time. It was alleged that he drove without due care or attention or without reasonable consideration for other people using the road. The charge said Hume, of Bishopbriggs, failed to maintain proper observations and did not see Mr Conway. It was stated that Mr Conway was a pedestrian crossing the road at the time. Allegations said Hume emerged from a junction and took a right turn when it was not safe to do so. It was stated that the manoeuvre caused Hume’s vehicle to collide with Mr Conway, damaging the car. Mr Conway died at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital 11 days later from his injuries. Hume pled not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to causing Mr Conway’s death by careless driving. The court heard from a man who stated that he had served regular Mr Conway that night at The Campsie Bar. The witness said that “creature of habit” Mr Conway would order the same drinks, watch football and leave to be home at 10pm. The man told police officers in his statement that Mr Conway was “absolutely fine” when leaving the bar. Another woman witnessed the collision moments later after dropping off a friend in her car. She stated that the car “lit up” Mr Conway, who crossed the road in front of her. Prosecutor Harry Findlay asked the witness where Mr Conway was on the road, and she replied: “Just past the middle lines on the middle of the road.” The woman tended to Mr Conway who told her that he “wanted to go home.” Mr Findlay asked the witness how the driver of the car presented and she replied: “I asked if he was okay but he was very shocked.” The woman stated that Mr Conway was in dark clothing, wearing a hat and a hood “right up and it covered his face.” Allan Macleod, defending, asked the woman if Mr Conway stopped in front of the car just before it collided with him and she replied: “Yes.” The advocate asked if Mr Conway looked in the direction of the car, and the woman said: “His head was down all the time.” Mr Macleod asked: “He walked in front of the car before it hit him?” Mr Macleod asked: “He wouldn’t be able to see the car before it collided with him?” Jurors returned a verdict of not guilty shortly after Sheriff Martin Jones KC allowed them to start their deliberations.
