A screening opinion request has gone in to Lancaster City Council for the new development on land near Slyne Road who is also behind plans to build another 200-home development near Slyne Road and Powder House Lane in Torrisholme A screening opinion request usually goes in before a planning application so the council can decide if an Environmental Impact Assessment is needed The council has said this assessment won't be required The 11.5 hectare Green Belt site is bounded by the A6 Slyne Road to the east Ashworth Drive and Pinewood Avenue to the north further houses at Hatlex Hill and Bryn Grove to the west A letter to the council from Pea Green Environmental Planning said: "The applicant is considering seeking planning permission for residential development of around 260 units along with access from the A6 Slyne Road and Greenwood Drive open space and associated drainage infrastructure "The development would form a logical extension to the existing residential areas to the north and west." said: "The proposal will give rise to a number of planning considerations that will need to be assessed through a planning application these neither individually nor cumulatively result in likely significant environmental impacts triggering the need for an environmental statement." MiaItalia won Best Pizzeria at the national 2016 Italian Awards It then followed this up by winning Best Italian Establishment at the 2019 Food Awards England "I think we have a pretty good reputation locally and further afield including national awards; it's always done very well reputationally," said Mr Waddington "We are planning to move it to Morecambe Our premises on Queen Street will be a smaller version probably an even split between diners and takeaway." The new Miaitalia will be housed inside a premises where Mr Waddington previously made his Italian gelato ice cream (see below) He will also continue to run his popular cafe and gelato shop on the opposite side of the road in the former Hart's cafe and gelato will be made and sold on the premises "We've had the two premises for several years now and had this conundrum of how best to operate," said Mr Waddington "I've always been fond of Morecambe You can see and feel that Morecambe is going through a regeneration Lancaster City Council planners have recommended that plans to demolish the Hawthorne House building in Bolton-le-Sands and replace it with five new houses A council report, published this week, said a more "robust and transparent marketing exercise" needed to take place to show "that the retention of the existing use is no longer economically viable or feasible" Mr Waddington is pressing ahead with plans to relocate regardless He explained to Beyond Radio why he believes his Bolton-le-Sands restaurant is no longer viable Lancaster City Council planning regulatory committee will meet on Monday March 28 at Morecambe Town Hall to discuss the plans The meeting starts at 10.30am and is open to the public.
