Falkirk Council has announced a series of improvement projects to enhance public spaces and create new recreational opportunities in Bonnybridge By asking the local community to highlight areas they felt needed improved the Council was able to identify key projects that would help make Bonnybridge Toll and Memorial Park more welcoming Falkirk Council’s Deputy Leader and spokesperson for Economic Development This regeneration work is about using the information the community has given to us and shaping projects that deliver on what they have said the improvements will create better spaces for everyone – whether it is families visiting the park young people looking to develop their cycling skills or residents who simply want a more attractive and accessible local environment The improvement work at Memorial Park aims to make the entire site more accessible Paths will be resurfaced and high-quality materials used around the memorials to make them a focus Seating areas will be upgraded with new benches and new shrubs and flowers planted Deciduous trees will replace identified conifers in the park to enhance both the look and safety of the area Public realm works at Bonnybridge Toll will complete the work with tactile paving installed at crossings Street signs and lighting columns will be cleaned to improve the overall appearance of the area Following a feasibility study of multiple locations across Bonnybridge Anderson Park was identified as the most suitable site for a pump track The project is being led by Green Action Trust Discussions around the installation of a potential astroturf pitch at Anderson Park are ongoing with further community engagement planned to explore the best use of the £100,000 which was originally approved as a contribution to this project Construction on Bonnybridge Toll and Memorial Park is expected to begin this summer with landscaping and planting potentially continuing later in the year a detailed timeline will be shared with residents These improvements reflect our commitment to investing in Bonnybridge and ensuring local people benefit from high-quality public spaces and facilities we are delivering projects that will have a lasting impact and create a more vibrant and accessible environment for everyone Keep up to date with how the projects are progressing by visiting Participate+ is designed to support infrastructure improvements and community-driven regeneration in our town centres and smaller settlements facing significant economic and environmental challenges the Council ensures projects funded by the Regeneration Fund align with local needs creating a model for future regeneration efforts across the local area Falkirk Council’s Community Asset Transfer (CAT) programme continues to gather momentum with four more properties set to move into community hands following approval at the Executive today (Thursday 13 February 2025) and Greenpark Community Education Centre will now be managed by local groups allowing them to operate and develop the facilities for the benefit of their communities Since the launch of the Council’s Strategic Property Review in 2023 more than 40 Expressions of Interest and CAT applications have been submitted - compared to fewer than five transfers in the previous 26 years councillors have approved 11 asset transfers – including those agreed today - marking a significant shift in how local assets are managed groups will receive financial support through the Council’s Enablement Fund to help modernise the buildings The properties have either been sold or leased for a nominal sum of £1 Transferring these properties to community ownership is not just about keeping them open - it’s about giving local people the power to shape and sustain spaces that matter to them It also delivers essential savings for the Council at a time of significant financial pressure asset transfers unlock funding that the Council cannot access enabling community groups to invest in modernising facilities and making them more sustainable and energy efficient with additional support from the Enablement Fund to help make these changes happen It smashed a window and caused injuries to a passenger.
