in tony Palm Beach and wellness-centric Santa Monica
Locals have long awaited this new-level wellness space that was years in the making: The fourth-floor wellness mecca is complete with a glass-windowed
20-meter pool with sunny views of the historic block
(Peep the sleek Hancock towering across the street
or the ornate facades of Stuart Street to feel how much this corner of the city has changed this past century.)
The pièce de résistance of any Guerlain spa is the facial-forward products and techniques (think sculpting and plant-infused options for targeted skincare goals), plus a spa menu tailored to the local clientele and centered on rejuvenation and holistic mind-body wellness: The signature treatment here is the Boston Energy massage
full-body hot stone treatment tailored to address stiffness (music to my tense-shouldered ears) over the course of 60 or 90 minutes
with the help of products like Guerlain balm and oils; choose your own scent with your therapist based on what you'd like to achieve in your treatment
I opted for the signature treatment because of some muscle tightness and tension headaches I was experience from an exercise regimen
and welcomed my therapist's help in determining the aromatherapy that would help best for relaxation
We also talked about the areas of my body she could work a bit more to achieve the blissed-out state I reached by the end of the treatment
Having experienced the spa's signature treatment
I'm eager to return for a facial next time
Five treatment rooms (including one double-treatment area for couples massages) are open to bookings by non-guests
Locker rooms are sleek and stocked with all the eco-conscious beauty products you could need post-treatment
from bamboo combs to multi-use-sized dry shampoos and deodorants
The velvet-furnitured relaxation lounge for slowing down pre- and post-treatment is worth lingering in; the quiet
cocoon-like room feels a world away from the heart of Boston outside
and is complete with hot and cold teas and healthy snacks to keep your stomach from rumbling mid-treatment
and sphered lighting throughout the high-ceilinged spaces make each one effortlessly striking and bright—and the entire places feels more like a standalone spa than a compartmentalized hotel option
The space and building are brand new (opened in 2023) and entirely accessible
unlike some other addresses in this neighborhood
Elevators are spacious and ADA compliance here includes the pool area
which has its own lift that ensures individuals in wheelchairs can enjoy the space
There's also a 2,000-square-foot Technogym that you'd perhaps rightfully expect from the iconic Raffles brand, plus sauna, steam room, and experience showers.

Home » News » International Women in Engineering Day: Christine Lowry and the British Library at Boston Spa
The built environment is special for many reasons
but primary among them is the opportunity to make a genuine – often
area of public realm or city in the world that hasn’t been shaped and influenced by engineers
For International Women in Engineering Day
meet women across Buro Happold who are making their mark on the built environment through the work that they do
Christine Lowry is an advocate for thinking holistically when approaching a new project
in recent years Christine’s work has been on the boundary of sustainability
building performance and building services
Christine joined Buro Happold in 2001 and became a partner in 2021
As someone with demonstrable experience across the built environment
and as a senior leader within the practice
she can understand that the ability to take a step back and look at the big picture of a project – with many competing requirements – is critical to success
This is especially true for projects that are unique
The British Library at Boston Spa is a case in point
This project is a one-off – and because of who the client is and what it will achieve
The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom
Its headquarters is a well-known building in its own right and is found right next to King’s Cross St Pancras railway station in London
But many people do not know that there is a lot more to the library than its famous red brick frontage in the capital city
It is here that Christine and a team from Buro Happold are changing the way in which the precious collection is stored
as well as transforming the offices of the staff who work there
A brand-new automated store will be created
which uses passive climate control in place of traditional energy intensive methods to preserve the materials inside
ground engineering and sustainability services to the British Library at Boston Spa project
The site in Boston Spa includes a reading room
but what is striking is the amount of materials safely kept there
automated storage facilities – and a third one is being built
attention has been paid to the sustainability side of this new facility
“There has been an interesting evolution of the approach to sustainability and energy use
the approach was about densifying the collection
which was quite energy intensive as it needed to nail specific environmental conditions
the approach is that slow temperature fluctuations (within reason) are acceptable
That means we don’t need as much energy and there are no heating
ventilation or air conditioning systems in there”
These passive design choices have a huge impact on the amount of energy required
the new automated store will house nine aisles of cranes
“A building where someone has to physically go and get a book
even one with dense racking to store all these materials
is really inefficient in terms of footprint
The automation that is being implemented now is bringing that cost right down
“The British Library is right at the forefront of thinking – and building – efficiently.”
Christine has worked on a wide range of projects
and knows the importance of working in collaboration with clients
“None of us can achieve excellent work on our own
What is really fun and enjoyable on projects like this is the fact that you absolutely have to work in collaboration with the client and the rest of the design team.”
When you have a collective of people with a common vision and aim
experts and colleagues who are at the top of their game is very rewarding
“The British Library are great to work with because they think so innovatively
They want to be the best and are at the forefront of thinking of the future of libraries: they are trying to store these items forever
It is so interesting to work with a client who thinks long-term.”
The idea of collaboration extends to a diversity of people within Buro Happold
Christine has been at Buro Happold since 2001 and was made a partner in 2021
her views on the role of women within engineering and the built environment are noteworthy
“I’ve never viewed myself as a ‘female engineer’: I’m an engineer
I totally acknowledge the importance of having women in senior roles
“This is something that Buro Happold takes seriously and is a challenge I think about often
How do we keep colleagues moving through their careers
and keep them motivated and contributing their great skills
I can show that there is a path – and many people willing to help you walk it.”

Leeds based Boston Spa Hockey Club’s women division is folding ahead of the new season due to 3G issues
The club’s pitch at Boston Spa Academy is being replaced by a 3G turf
with the women’s division hopeful of relocating to Wetherby High School
Negotiations with the school and council fell through this month and the club can’t use the pitch as required
The women’s division is a single team playing in Yorks & North East Div 1
with players coming from all over Yorkshire and the North East
very few being local to Boston Spa.
READ MORE: 3G pitch plight: The clubs affected in the UK
Club member Helen Baron said: “The additional travel coupled with childcare constraints and some injuries
mean the other pitch locations that were available added too much travel time
that meant they weren’t sustainable for many players.”
“The players that want to continue playing are looking for teams more convenient to their location
The two men’s teams will continue and hopefully thrive
Southwick HC and South Downs HC are losing their astro at Steyning Grammar School
The school is being rebuilt and the current astro is being turned into temporary classrooms
said: “We are in talks with England Hockey and interestingly have found out the DCMS has a target of installing 3G pitches countrywide
a local hockey club has been able to return to its roots thanks to collaborative working and intervention from Mansfield District Council and its partners
North Notts Hockey Club used the Manor Sport & Recreation Centre in Mansfield Woodhouse as its home training pitch for more than 30 years
This was until the pandemic forced the closure of all community pitches
The Kingsley Avenue complex was run by the Two Counties Trust
which also operates the nearby Manor Academy school
The facility never reopened once the lockdown was lifted
An announcement was then made in 2021 that it would remain permanently closed
leaving the club without a playing facility
Bringing the club back to the sports complex was made possible thanks to collaboration and support from Two Counties Trust and Nottinghamshire County Council
The county specifically worked with the district council to complete legal paperwork needed to lease directly with the hockey club
The club has nine senior teams and a junior section
which train and play at the complex three times per week
The council has also helped to bring the facility back up to scratch and secure its future by providing support for new lighting and electrics
as well as the specialist cleaning of the pitch
we are extremely excited to be returning to play hockey at ‘home’ for the first time in four seasons
Having been travelling to Worksop for all this time
being back local again will aid the growth of the club and we look forward to bringing hockey back to the Mansfield region
“The work that has gone in behind the scenes from all parties has been immense and as a club we cannot thank everyone involved enough for helping us get back to Manor Sports Centre.”
Do you know of any 3G issues affecting your region or club

The giant blueberry and the apple crumble choux bunThis story is sponsored by Pudding Lab
Two top chefs have joined forces to open their second spectacular pâtisserie, in Harrogate
Ashley Close and Kian Lian opened their first Pudding Lab in Boston Spa three years ago and it has been so successful that they now want to bring their unique creations to Cold Bath Road
Pudding Lab is a British version of a French pâtisserie
We use French recipes that have been improved through the ages
we made a sticky toffee pudding petit gâteau
We’re both very creatively different with ideas and flavours
you’ve got to be very methodical about it – the amounts and the timings – so we work a lot like scientists
as they appeared on Bake Off - the Professionals
Their creations are all hand-made by the chefs and their staff on the premises
is made with gluten-free juniper and almond sponge
with a mirror glaze and tempered white chocolate décor
Their apple crumble choux bun is made of a choux pastry bun with green craquelin
whose background is in fine dining restaurants in Yorkshire and Jersey
It’s quite refined – more akin to the standard you’d find at a five-star restaurant
We don’t cut corners – we use the best-quality butter
Seasonality is key: getting things at their best
The cherries and strawberries are over now
Seasonal produce is helpful too because it helps us come up with new ideas and innovate
Pudding Lab has seating for 32 customers and also serves breakfast, brunch, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, sweet treats and take-out cakes. The coffee is from Leeds-based North Star and both chefs are also trained baristas
whose career has included years spent working as a chef on board private yachts all around the world
who once appeared together on TV's Bake Off - the Professionals
hoped Pudding Lab will become a much-loved fixture of Harrogate's food scene
The croque monsieur is made with Pain de mie bread
We want to replicate here what we’ve created in Boston Spa
where we’ve developed a very loyal following
It’s really important for us that Pudding Lab has a family feel to it
Cold Bath Road is full of independent businesses
and we want to add to that and help make the area even better
Pudding Lab is located at 123 Cold Bath Rd, Harrogate, HG2 0NU. For more information, follow the Facebook page.
• NOW HS2 has left a giant hole near Euston station
and the folly of taking what is left of that white elephant to Euston is apparent to (almost) everyone
we need joined-up thinking to make the best of this terrible job
How about making the British Library work again
Margaret Thatcher had sold off the land behind it (where the Crick Institute now is) that was meant to store the books
much of the collection is at Boston Spa in Yorkshire
The hack on the BL last October made the folly of this decision clear: even now
hardly any of those books are available to readers
Why not use the bombsites for underground storage for the Boston Spa collection
which could be used to fetch them to and fro
The land above ground could surely be used for other purposes
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who allegedly stole some $250,000 worth of jewelry from a locker room at a high-end spa in Back Bay
The victim reported the theft around 2:30 p.m
on Tuesday at the G20 Spa + Salon on Exeter Street
She told police she had put a sapphire ring
and diamond engagement ring inside the “zippered area of her purse and placed her bag in a locked locker” before her appointment
she realized she had forgotten to put her diamond tennis bracelet away and went back to the locker room
she opened her locker and found that her tennis bracelet
She told police her tennis bracelet is worth approximately $100,000
her engagement ring and wedding band are each worth about $75,000
possibly in her twenties.” She is about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 130 pounds with “blonde hair and dark roots,” police said
Police provided images that show the woman wearing a black sweatshirt
Another shows her with her hair down beyond her shoulders
