Rents at Brigg and Ashby markets have been cut
Changes in the set up of the markets have provided some savings to the council and these savings have been passed on to the traders
in the hope that more people will take the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and join the market
or £10 where the council provides a gazebo and weights
North Lincolnshire Council leader Rob Waltham said: “If you have every wanted to run your own business
now is the time to step up and give it a go
These are two vibrant markets in the heart of the community
and this rent cut makes them accessible to all.”
cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural)
said: “Leaving the stalls up in Brigg will mean they can be used by community groups and charities to hold pop-up markets
increasing the viability of the town centre
Also local town centre enterprises will be able to use the stalls when the market isn’t in use
“The changes to Ashby Market make it more sustainable and attractive to traders.”
The markets run at Brigg and Ashby every Thursday from 8am
however bad weather may affect the number of stalls
the farmers’ market is held on the fourth Saturday of every month
Brigg Arts & Craft market is every second Saturday and Brigg Indie Market is every third Saturday

Briggs & Stratton has introduced a dual 200-amp automatic transfer switch (ATS) to comply with NEC 2023 standards
which require separate compartments for breakers
Briggs & Stratton claims this new model
is the only ATS of its kind that’s currently available on the market
As of February of this year
17 states have adopted NEC 2023 while NEC 2020 is in effect in 21 states
The updated dual 200-A ATS allows the switch to handle two different amperage ratings
providing optimal power management for diverse appliance loads
It has separate compartments with dividers and independent deadfronts and a new TRCM+ control board that replaces the ACCM control board
Symphony Choice power management is included
allowing customers to prioritize up to eight high-wattage appliances
Kelly Pickerel has over a decade of experience reporting on the U.S
solar industry and is currently editor in chief of Solar Power World

The MP for Brigg has called its one train a day Gainsborough to Cleethorpes service 'pretty pointless'
Martin Vickers MP (Brigg and Immingham - Conservative) has renewed his criticism of the limited service the North Lincolnshire town gets
Northern Trains shifted from a Saturday service to weekday services
only one train stops by Brigg every weekday in each direction
Mr Vickers has been critical before of the arrangement
he said: "Northern Trains runs one train per day on the Gainsborough-Brigg-Cleethorpes line
Does the Secretary of State agree that one train per day is pretty pointless
"Will she arrange a meeting with the appropriate Minister for me and other affected MPs
so that we can discuss how to secure a better service?"
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander promised him the meeting he sought
I will ask the Rail Minister for a meeting."

In a debate on northern Lincolnshire transport in September - secured by Ms Onn - Mr Vickers criticised the limited time the Brigg service allowed for people to shop for
He called for a regular service on the line
Junior transport minister Lilian Greenwood said at the time the service was intended primarily to provide route knowledge of the Brigg line in case of disruptions
"Adding an additional service on this route could create clashes and would cost between £400,000 and £900,000 a year
depending on staff and rolling stock demand."
The Sheffield and Gainsborough to Cleethorpes service via Brigg stops at the North Lincolnshire market town at 11:08am on weekdays

North Lincolnshire Council has renewed bans on town centre cycling
begging and other anti-social activities – after residents responded overwhelmingly in favour of keeping them in place
A new rule will mean dogs will have to be kept under control or on a lead in public places after more than nine out of ten people supported this measure
A public spaces protection order (PSPO) has been in place since 2021 – with a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) issued to people involved in these activities that negatively impact on others
the council take people to Magistrates Court to enforce
The current PSPO was due to run out at the end of October
said: “The vast majority of residents told us they value these protections and want to see them continue
“We have handed out hundreds of fines to people who act inappropriately and ignore the rules
creating nuisance and blighting our communities.”
cabinet member for community wellbeing (urban)
said: “These things have a massive impact on people’s lives and their enjoyment of where they live or shop or visit
We make no apologies for fining people for behaving in a way which shows a complete disregard for others
“The PSPO also gives officers the ability to fine people who put theirs and other peoples lives at risk by ignoring advice to get out of open water – this will target people who disregard the warnings of the dangers of Ashby Ville Pond.”
The new PSPOs allows the council and partners
including an outright ban on cycling or motorised scooters
There is also a ban on drinking alcohol or carrying open alcoholic beverages in public places in and around Scunthorpe
‘where it is a manner that causes or is likely to cause harassment
to a person’ is banned from Brigg and Scunthorpe
Tickets are available via EventBrite for the Iron's away pre-season encounter at Brigg Town CIC on Saturday
The match will take place at the EC Surfacing Stadium (also known as the Hawthorns) and will be the fourth game of pre-season for Andy Butler's side ahead of the Vanarama National League North commencing on Saturday
Both sides last met last pre-season when a 2-2 draw was played out in the inaugural "Julie Taylor Trophy"
The Iron were 2-0 up through goals from Cameron Wilson and Danny Elliott before the hosts struck back to draw level
The game was curtailed early following a medical emergency in the crowd
which was a record attendance at the stadium
it was the side's youth team who last visited the Zebras back in 2019
it was the Scunthorpe youngsters who recovered from a 2-0 deficit
with Harry Jessop and Levi Gallimore netting to end the game in stalemate
Brigg Town CIC is advising that ALL fans use this method of purchasing tickets to avoid delays on getting into the ground on match day

After a goalless normal time at the EC Surfacing Stadium the Iron defeated Brigg Town CIC on penalties after Jason Law’s winning spot kick
The Iron returned to pre-season action in order to face local rivals Brigg Town CIC
as the sides were to set compete for the currently vacant "Julie Taylor Trophy" in an anticipated valiant battle with the sun bearing down across the already straw like surface
first team manager Andy Butler heavily rotated his side from how Scunthorpe began their midweek encounter with Gainsborough Trinity in which Butler’s team triumphed 5-3
appearances were awarded to trialists Finn Abraham in the centre of defence
the Iron almost immediately broke into their stride and continued with the high tempo pressing football that had been on display throughout the ongoing pre-season.
It was this high tempo play that would lead to Scunthorpe’s opening goal
A scintillating twist and turn on the edge of the area from Joe Rowley allowed the latest addition to the United ranks to swing a pinpoint cross into the box to find the disguised run of Sam Fishburn who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner but saw his glory snatched away by the linesman’s raised flag
despite the pitch causing some possession problems for both sides
United remained a constant threat and again came close to taking the lead courtesy of a fantastic curling effort from Fin Shrimpton
It was a short quickly taken corner that allowed Shrimpton to steamroll onto the loose ball and wrap his foot around the ball before it sung the crossbar and deflected behind
As the half progressed in a steady fashion
the two sides were exchanging possession and chances on a regular basis and the Zebras created a golden chance on the stroke of half time
A loose pass through the channel form Scunthorpe allowed Brigg to break at pace
The ball was threaded through to Dayle Hutson inside the area who under pressure from the recovering Brad Nicholson he could only power his shot straight into the welcoming palms of Maison Campbell
That was to be the end of the first-half action and as a result the Iron would’ve been hoping to build upon their first-half performance and find a route to victory in the second period.
When the team returned to the field of play
the theme of alternating chance continued to prevail
it was the hosts who began to threaten as a period of sustained dominance led to a Brigg man in acres of space on the edge of the area being able to subtly spin and lash an effort towards that Campbell which forced the shot stopper into a full stretch stop
Still in hopes of finding the first goal of the tie
United continued to flood forward in numbers
however the ball seemed intent on refusing to nestle despite the Iron’s promising attacking play
With no more than 60 minutes on the clock the ball again ended up in the back of the Zebra's net
and once again it was refused to stand by the referee who called play back for a seemingly invisible foul by Andrew Boyce before he had risen highest to nod the ball past the goalkeeper
With time running out for either side to find a winner
Campbell entered himself into a certain save of the season race with a splendid foot save to deny a certain goal from mere yards out when Hutson converged on a loose back pass and somehow failed to put the ball in the back of the net
the dying moments of the fixture were to remember as somehow the Brigg blockade remained strong and kept out the Iron as again the crossbar denied the winner as a curling effort from Ross Barrows on his weaker left-foot wrapped around the keeper and left the woodwork reverberating and the rebound from Carlton Ubaezuonu was somehow smuggled behind as the Zebras refused to let the ball cross the white line
As the game was forced to penalties as a result of the scoreline Scunthorpe were to triumph as they proceeded to find the net with all their strikes along with Maison Campbell who continued his man of the match-worthy performance by superbly stopping the hosts first penalty to see the trophy return to the Attis Arena

The fourth annual Civic Celebration Event has taken place in Brigg today to mark the county day
Lincolnshire Day has been celebrated on 1 October every year since 2006
The date was chosen to mark the anniversary of the Lincolnshire Uprising
a revolt by Catholics to King Henry VIII’s plans to establish the Church of England in 1536
mayors and guests met in Brigg today to explore the heritage of the market town
a Bronze Age plank boat found in the town in the 1880s
thought to have been used to transport people and animals across the River Ancholme
A walking tour of the town centre also explored how Brigg has contributed to the county’s story over the last 1,000 years
the Lincolnshire Day Civic Celebration Event began as a ceremonial show of unity and pride in our great county
Hosting of the event rotates between the North Lincolnshire Council
Lincolnshire County Council and North East Lincolnshire Council to showcase different areas of the county
Previous events have been held at Normanby Hall Country Park in 2021
and in the Kasbah area of Grimsby Docks in 2023
This year’s event comes less than three weeks after it was announced that Greater Lincolnshire’s devolution deal will go forward
following successful meetings between the three lead local councils and the new government
“It was brilliant to host Lincolnshire Day in North Lincolnshire once again and showcase Brigg’s heritage with our partners in Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire
This helps strengthen our bond and vision for Greater Lincolnshire including bringing better paid jobs to the area
the Greater Lincolnshire devolution deal was agreed
which means we can get to work on seizing this monumental opportunity
“We will continue to strengthen ties across our great county – from Barton to the north
Cleethorpes to the east and Stamford to the south – working together to unleash Greater Lincolnshire’s potential and create a future full of opportunity for our young people.”
“When we began working more closely with North and North East Lincolnshire council
we started the Lincolnshire Day Civic Celebration Event to show that the invisible lines of local government do not separate us; from the Humber to the Wash we are one Lincolnshire
“Now that we have our Greater Lincolnshire devolution deal ratified
those invisible lines have well and truly been erased
“Meeting in Brigg on Lincolnshire Day today is not only a chance to celebrate the county’s history
having secured this extra investment for skills
economic development and environmental protection.”
“Lincolnshire Day 2024 is of particular significance as it marks a new dawn for our greater county
and we see evidence of that past as we look around Brigg today
we can now look forward to an even greater future as we prepare for the new responsibilities that devolution will bring for us all.”
Greater Lincolnshire’s devolution will see an extra £720m invested in the county over the next 30 years
This will be for priority areas of jobs and skills
An initial capital funding pot of £28m is allocated to projects across the county including:

Women’s O45 top seed Lauren Kinsey-Briggs “cannot wait” to head to Amsterdam for the WSF World Masters and says age-group squash keeps her focused and connected to old friends
Englishwoman Kinsey-Briggs is a former World No.18 on the old WISPA tour
she won the World O35 title at Charlottesville
USA in 2018 and collected two European Masters
one British Open and six British Closed Masters titles
The 45-year-old took a break from squash shortly after that World title in Charlottesville
but re-discovered the love for it after the pandemic when she moved to rural East Sussex
She now plays at Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells Squash Clubs and is relishing a return to Masters competition at the Frans Otten Stadium this week
She said: “I look forward to playing and travelling to different places
I lived in Amsterdam towards the end of my professional career so I’m really looking forward to going back and being a bit of a tourist
Amsterdam is such a beautiful city and I am going to try and visit some of my old haunts
“My best memory of this event is the Worlds in Charlottesville
The club was incredible as were the surroundings and getting to see some friends I hadn’t seen for the best part of 15 years really put the icing on the cake.”
Kinsey-Briggs’ main rival for the women’s O45 title is expected to be Singapore’s second seed Joannah Yue, but two South Africans, Karen Schultz and Samantha Herbert, will also fancy a say in who lifts the trophy (see full draw)
Kinsey-Briggs said: “I try not to focus too much on seedings and instead try to focus more on being in the best shape I can and being as strong as possible when I get to the event – and most importantly
She added: “Playing Masters squash gives me a great focus
It gives me a purpose and reason to train and to challenge my body possibly more than I would if I wasn’t playing
I remind myself that it’s all for fun now though
and I really try to keep the fun and enjoyment of playing and training at centre of my focus
“It also keeps me connected to some friends along the way and I look forward to knowing I will see familiar faces when I go to tournaments
It retains a connection to friends through something enjoyable.”
Kinsey-Briggs now works for UK Sport
the government investors in British Olympic and Paralympic athlete support programmes
athlete support and Elite Training Centre teams and am currently creating support programmes for athletes who are transitioning out of their sporting careers
understanding how to create thriving environments for coaches and athletes alike
“It’s a fun job and the best part is that in four years we get to see squash in LA!”

Alex Conrad
the world was at Matthew Briggs' feet
After all, why wouldn't it have been given he became the youngest-ever Premier League player in May 2007
Playing against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium
Fulham prodigy Briggs came on in the 77th minute for Mortiz Volz aged just 16 years and 65 days
It was a record Briggs held until Harvey Elliott came along in May 2019 to make his Premier League debut aged 16 years and 30 days
The record now belongs to Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri
who debuted aged 15 years and 181 days against Brentford in September 2022
his career never materialised into the one he and so many would have envisioned when he came off the bench against Middlesbrough
"When I look back on my career, 16 years and 65 days, it's such a young age," Briggs said.
"And I know everyone's journey is different and everyone's story is different.
"But for me, I feel like I got too much, too young and maybe the support system around me wasn't good enough. Being a young boy, a teenager, and then being thrown in to a man's game, it's quite daunting for a young kid. I didn't really know how to handle it.
It's all different types of scenarios that you have to cope with."
Owing to his status as one of the hottest talents in the game as a teen, it was no surprise an English giant like Manchester United kept tabs on Briggs
Manchester United was interested in me," Briggs said
As soon as I heard Manchester United were interested in me
"But obviously when Fulham didn't want me to go and wouldn't allow me to go
Briggs ultimately went on to make just 30 appearances in total for Fulham before he was released after 13 years at Craven Cottage in 2014 and joined Millwall
Chesterfield and Barnet followed before things came to a head in 2018
Briggs opened up on how he became completely disillusioned with football and the devastating impact it had on his life
"Nothing was working, lost the hunger for it," Briggs said.
"I had a lifestyle that I could no longer maintain because of the money I was now earning
"I just lost myself and I disconnected from friends
I disconnected from family because I feel like I let them down
I remember being on holiday in Dubai and just thinking about ending it all
Luckily security guards came in and got me down and moved my room to a bottom floor."
Briggs was thankfully provided with therapy and counselling through the Professional Footballer's Association (PFA)
which helped him to 'get my mind right'
So too did a stint working for his uncle on a building site
When he first moved in with his uncle and aunt
Briggs conceded he would 'sit with my hood up in the dark.'
I was just sat there doing nothing," Briggs said
It's making us feel uncomfortable.'
I'm not going to let you sit in here and do this.'"
Briggs' uncle decided he would bring his nephew to a construction site to do some labouring work for £80 a day
Being back in the sunlight and around other people helped Briggs to open up to others but
"I always say no disrespect to construction
because what they do is brilliant and I learned a lot of life skills doing it," Briggs said
"But I remember walking across the building site of a breeze block
I was holding this breeze block and I was thinking
'How have I ended up in this situation?'
"I was the youngest player in the Premier League
Now I'm in a building site carrying a breeze block
not earning the money I was once on before
Briggs would return to football ahead of the 2018/19 season with eighth-tier side Maldon and Tiptree
He went on to play in the Danish top tier with Vejle BK and even represented Guyana internationally before his retirement in 2023
Briggs became a player care mentor for Fulham and is also an insurance broker
Briggs has signed for Michah Richards' Deportrio
and he'll now try to dazzle against fellow ex-professionals and non-league stars

attendees will hear about how their peers are developing new approaches to policymaking and service delivery
In this interview, Matt Briggs, senior responsible owner at the UK Department for Work and Pensions’ Service Modernisation Programme – who will speak at Innovation in the session Service delivery reimagined – tells GGF about putting the customer at the heart
how the civil service might be different in 25 years’ time
and why football manager Kenny Dalglish is his hero

Having grown up in an East London community where lots of people really struggled
I have always wanted to make a difference to the lives of the types of people I grew up with
Public service when done well creates opportunities for people’s lives to be improved and community cohesion to be improved – there really is nothing like the civil service in terms of gifting us the opportunity to do that
Leading the delivery of the Tell Us Once programme that put the customer at the heart of the service at a time when they are vulnerable
trying to bring together all parties across the public service to make their lives just a little bit easier
That’s what I am trying to recreate in the Service Modernisation Programme
and I am so lucky that within DWP this is at the heart of our organisational values and purpose
underpinned by a passion to support those who need us
What I perceive as barriers have been self-imposed mainly by my own imposter syndrome
whether that is progressing in my career or a feeling that my voice will be heard in a room full of clever people
what others may feel are barriers – being dyslexic for example – I find being a strength (but I recognise that is not the same for everyone)
As senior responsible owner for the Service Modernisation Programme
I am at the forefront of transforming how we administer benefits across DWP
and that’s my mission – we are joining-up multiple DWP services
and equipping the organisation with the tools to continuously modernise
It’s enough to keep me busy for a few years
Stop trying to be someone else – be true to yourself.
The UK civil service is so broad that you should explore it until you find where your passion
capabilities and role intersect and then you will never look back and you will enjoy every minute
make thousands of friends and feel like you are making a difference every single day
it’s the huge opportunities to genuinely make a difference to society
it’s the fact that you never really know what the next challenge is going to be
and it’s the amazing colleagues you encounter along the way
I am constantly looking to go further in improving experiences of our customers and am impatient for the changes to be made
That the organisational constructs of the UK civil service are seen as pathways to joining up services
I come from the change environment and I think the biggest differences will be in the trends we are seeing today – greater democratisation of innovation through no-code/lo-code technologies and AI; having to respond to different communities emerging driven to a degree by globalisation; online social media; the human/digital interface being more blurred in public service delivery; different crises to resolve
We have a lot to be proud of and we are held up across the world as a great public service so we shouldn’t also lose our purpose and values
an higher executive officer called Myra Traynor
She was the person who made me realise what public service was and that this is a vocation and career not just a job
Australia for their passion and sense of purpose for their citizens and believe it or not Vietnam for how quickly they are modernising their welfare state as they build it
Canada is also on a similar journey to DWP
Hearing how they are facing the same challenges as us is very inspiring
in knowing we are not alone or unique in this being hard
We also gain a lot of inspiration from our partnership with Gartner who bring a global perspective
both from government as well as other sectors
Australia = outlast the resistance and get ready to wear a flak jacket because transformation is hard
We also often think that DWP is way behind our peers
the more we have spoken with our cousins across the globe
we realise we are quite rare amongst our peers
This is because we are tackling our modernisation in a truly system thinking way and properly putting the customer at the heart of what we are doing
Our work on the business delivery model is the single most important thing to deliver what the citizens and government need – base it all on evidence and insight and you won’t go far wrong
sharing our evidence that has informed the design could be invaluable and save significant time for other countries
so their needs do not ultimately vary from country to country
because of his life experiences; Peter Ustinov
Everyone tells me I’d be a great second-hand car salesman (not sure that’s a compliment!)
People outside of work would not believe I’m a senior civil servant
I only had it about two days (but that’s another story)
The Adam and the Ants EP ‘Stand and deliver’
but because what he did after the Hillsborough disaster (a crush at an English football stadium in 1989 that killed 97 people) was truly admirable
He was someone who had a completely different skillset who was put into that environment and led the whole community

The ELMS paddock in recent years has become a real draw for young talent
with drivers from across the globe flocking to the LMP2 and LMP3 classes
all keen to impress and climb the sportscar ladder to the promised land of Hypercar and GTP
One of those is 17-year-old British racer Alfie Briggs
who is yet to make a race start in the series but has spent the past 12 months in and around the paddock
soaking up knowledge ahead of a planned transition to a full-season seat in 2026
The son of Steve Briggs – the second ‘B’ in race car restoration
preparation and trackside management company BBM Sport – who has proven to be a total natural behind the wheel
“I got involved with him about two or three years ago,” his mentor Bob Berridge (the first ‘B’ in BBM) told DSC
and he went and did Super ROK (Karting) in 2022
And we were spending 60 grand when everyone around him was spending 250.”
Briggs made a smooth transition to racing with a roof over his head in 2023
getting his race licence driving a Citroen Saxo in the Junior Saloon Car Championship and later an International B driving an LMP3 car in the Masters Historic arena
“He was quick when we put him in an LMP3 car in Masters to get his International B
and he’s blown people with experience away
Briggs has gained plenty of valuable experience outside the cockpit
working in the back of the garage at RLR Msport in LMP3 (during pit stops) and Algarve Pro Racing in LMP2 during the 2024 ELMS season
“I’ve been on hand to get to know everyone
meet the teams and show them what I am made of,” Briggs added in conversation with DSC
“It’s been really valuable working with David Leach (APR’s technical director) to improve me
who won the 2023 title with APR) and Olli (Caldwell) and all the guys that race in the ELMS with the APR team.”
His hard graft culminated with a run at the ELMS post-season test in Portimao last October
he gained his first experience in a contemporary ORECA 07 LMP2 car with Algarve Pro
“It just feels like you’re always on the edge in a current LMP2,” he reflected
it’s a lot more demanding than a historic P2
Briggs’ aim is to stay in sportscar racing long term
He has a head-turning total of 10 tests booked between now and the start of the 2026 season
when he hopes to be part of the ELMS field
his sights are set on the top class of sportscar racing during this ‘Golden era’
he wants to have completed multiple ELMS seasons
I hope to have won Le Mans!” He said
there’s only 20 seats and in prototypes there’s more cars
with three drivers in each car and I think in F1 the pressure is a lot higher,” he continued
and the racing is just going to get better and better
It makes me more excited for the future and what my career may bring
you really notice how much more professional everything gets
So I’ve just got to do the best I can
and they’ll ask me to race for them in 2026
“I know I need to make the most of the opportunity and impress
And it’s self-awareness that is perhaps his most important asset at this early stage
but they are complemented by a level of maturity that should see him go far
“I feel that a young kid like Alfie needs to serve an apprenticeship,” Berridge points out
it’s why he is spending time with APR
He will learn more in the next 12 months than the majority of drivers with big budgets.”
“He’s done a really good job so far
so we are trying to help him,” Stewart Cox continued
“We are always keen on helping young drivers who don’t have the budget
give them chances to smash it out the park
If the mindset and the work ethic are there
“Alfie is young and has limited experience
but we think he has a future in sportscar racing
so we are going to put a programme together to help him achieve his goal
learn and then go out with the tools to achieve in the outside world.”

native and swinging pianist with a soulful tone whose sounds were in demand from Muscle Shoals to Music City and beyond
For the three decades of the 1960s through the 1990s
when Southern inspirations redefined how country
R&B and rock were seamlessly melded into a powerhouse sound
few were as ubiquitous as Briggs in that evolution
“David Briggs could play keyboards in any style and was a man of music through and through,” said Kyle Young
CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
alongside songwriter Peanut Montgomery and other youthful and soulful creatives
world-renowned soul cuts that emanated from 130 miles south of Nashville in the late 1950s and early 1960s
As the pianist on Arthur Alexander's FAME Studios cut
1960 classic "You Better Move on," his sound adds a honky-tonk melody that underpins the track and offers it the sonic twist that doesn't appear in later recordings as a country track by George Jones and Johnny Paycheck or an early era Rolling Stones rocker
who was a decade into adding sophistication to Nashville's sound
recruited Briggs to the city as a session musician five years later
This followed Briggs' work with other members of the FAME rhythm section as the backing band for opening acts on the Beatles’ 1964 U.S
roughly five times as many as he did in Alabama
It was either Alabama's Briggs or Louisianan Floyd Cramer whose soulful turns were heard on the piano and clavinet during Elvis Presley's legendary live-touring era
including numerous Grammy-winning and other critically acclaimed records
artists whose sounds dived into and past what producers like Owen Bradley had set as a Nashville standard were familiar with having Briggs behind the keys pushing the melodic boundaries of their recordings
Those acts included Country Music and Rock & Roll hall of famers like Johnny Cash
Briggs paired with fellow Alabama bass player Norbert Putnam to develop Music Row's Quadrafonic Sound Studios
a four-studio recording facility favored by the likes of Kris Kristofferson
where Jimmy Buffett recorded "Margaritaville," Joan Baez recorded "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and Dobie Gray recorded "Drift Away."
By 1976, country and rock's million record-selling era was in full swing, precipitating Briggs' opening of the still-operational House of David Studio on 16th Avenue South
This era dovetailed into his work as an award-winning commercial jingle producer
working primarily for advertising agencies in Chicago
as well as through his Danor Music song publishing company
Expanding Nashville's reach in the 1980s and 1990sBy the 1980s
Briggs again achieved acclaim when Jennings co-wrote Steve Winwood's hit “Higher Love" and Whitney Houston’s chart-topper “Didn’t We Almost Have It All.”
the publishing company Briggs co-founded and co-owned with Jennings
Burton Award from BMI as the publisher of the year in 1988
Tucked into that era is Briggs' continuing work as a jingle craftsman
When Garth Brooks arrived in Nashville in the mid-1980s
Briggs contracted the eventual "Friends in Low Places" singer to add his vocals to a beer commercial — Brooks' first professional recording in Nashville
House of David Studio remained busy with artists like Joe Cocker
who traveled to Music City to receive the unique care Briggs offered their recordings
A hall of fame career celebratedThe 21st century found Briggs consistently receiving honors for his multigenerational music career
a decade after being inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame
,he and Norbert Putnam were presented with Belmont University's Cecil B
given to individuals "whose lives and work have made it possible for future generations to realize careers in the music industry."
That preceded an era in the 2010s where his Music City session work was recognized with numerous features by the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum
and the Nashville Cats: A New Music City exhibition
which ran from March 2015 to February 2017 at the museum
Briggs was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame alongside drummer Jerry Carrigan
guitarist Kelso Herston and lead guitarist Terry Thompson as the original Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section

Building services contractor Briggs & Forrester (B&F) caused a year-long delay on a high-rise site after it wrongly stopped work after a dispute
The CN100 firm had been contracted to revamp a smoke ventilation system at Manchester’s City Tower
But it halted its work after finding additional structural and asbestos-related issues beyond what B&F claimed was outlined in its contractual scope
Judge Stephen Davies said that B&F breached its contract with BNP Paribas
by refusing to proceed without contractual amendments for the problems
B&F was contracted in February 2021 to revamp City Tower’s smoke ventilation system by designing and installing stair pressurisation systems on two risers
ensure stairwells remain smoke-free during emergencies
assigned B&F the risks associated with such works
The judgement stated that at the same time that B&F found the additional issues
“tensions were [also] developing” between the firm
its subcontractor Woods and asbestos consultancy Environmental Essentials over non-payment
Woods left the site permanently in December 2021
That meant B&F could not continue the job
leading to what the judge described as a “lengthy impasse”
BNP said in February 2023 that it viewed B&F’s decision to stop work as the contractor giving up the contract
BNP then began legal action in November 2023
arguing that B&F had no right to terminate its work and that it constituted a “repudiatory breach of the contract”
saying that B&F was responsible for unexpected asbestos removal and structural repairs
“The contract terms make it plain beyond serious argument that the risk lay firmly on B&F,” he concluded
The judge also rejected the contractor’s argument that BNP was responsible for employer-induced delays
affirming that “the cause of the suspension was B&F’s default”
B&F had argued the need for additional asbestos removal was an “act of prevention” by the client
Judge Davies emphasised that the contract did not make exceptions for unforeseen asbestos or structural issues
so in his view there was “nothing in the relevant documents” to justify B&F’s refusal to proceed
“B&F was not entitled to issue the suspension notice or the termination notice by reference to the stated grounds for doing so,” the judge said
“BNP is entitled to the declarations which it seeks.”

Iron manager Andy Butler reflected upon his sides 0-0 draw and then penalty shootout victory over local outfit Brigg Town CIC as the Vanarama National league North season draws closer
Butler gave his opinions on his sides performance against the Zebras: “First of all thank you to Brigg Town for hosting us
and the key messages to the players are that some of them got through 90 minutes
despite at times the frustrating conditions that made it difficult for us to move the ball because we want to play in one touch ideally but instead it was taking three or four.”
The Iron had two goals disallowed on the day as striker Sam Fishburn and centre-back Andrew Boyce both saw goals chalked off for offences prior to them applying a finish
Butler gave his views on the goals saying: “For the first one it appeared like Fish (Fishburn) made a clever run and for the second I thought it was a perfectly good header
But at least the players are getting challenged by Brigg
“I think the players worked hard and stood up to Brigg despite having quite a young average-aged side
but no players place in the side is confirmed
and just because players weren’t involved today doesn’t mean they’re not in the first team
It’s purely just making sure all players get equal minutes.”
With Butler’s side now finding themselves half-way through their pre-season preparations he gave an insight into how he feels his side are performing so far: “It’s been good
We’ve had a range of different challenges and obviously Gainsborough was a slightly nicer surface than this
so we had to adapt today and become slightly more direct to Fish
After Scunthorpe’s play-off heartbreak at the hands of a penalty shootout last campaign
Butler proceeded to tell us how he felt the lads coped under the spot-kick pressure this time around
it’s good to see that we can still have that winning mentality where we are winning games of football.”

Seminar Abstract: Trypanosomatida parasites cause three Neglected Tropical Diseases; Sleeping Sickness
Trypanosoma brucei also causes the wasting disease Nagana in cattle
These parasites are spread between mammals by biting insects and must undergo various life cycle transitions as they navigate and adapt to the different environments within the mammalian hosts and insect vectors
we have resolved the life cycle transition of Trypanosoma brucei as the parasites adapt for transmission from the mammal to the tsetse fly vector
Applying these methods to parasites isolated from both mouse models and cattle infections has further allowed comparisons of parasites while they infect different hosts or are cultured in vitro
we have now applied single cell transcriptomics to the leishmania life cycle and cell cycle
Together this work has begun resolving the dynamic relationship between the cell cycle and life cycle of these important pathogens
