I was wearing a purple parkrun T-shirt and my wife had a purple top on as well
So the long wait.....for just over twenty years I've driven past Brixworth Country Park and finally I visited today so first parkrun here also
it was on my reserve list from my parkrun challenge last year
and the team who gave us a warm welcome in the lovely sunshine
I nearly wore my running shorts for first time this year but not just yet but I did wear running shades
Naturally I attended the briefing and there were twelve first timers on this glorious morning and welcome to your new parkrun journey
reaching her 25th parkrun was Karen Parsons
the course was borderline road/trail shoes but got round well enough
Lovely views by the reservoir with those 'cheeky hills' plus Zephyr May helped carry me round
Well done to all 173 participants and thanks as always to all marshals and volunteers
after a visit afterwards to Northampton I took part in a fun 'Music request' game on BBC Radio Northampton and Three Counties and the DJ who knows me from last year asked how was Brixworth Country parkrun out of ten and I said eleven
Best wishes from,Warren 'Forrest Gump' Harrison

#article-stream-0 .quote-embed .font-size p{font-size: 36px;}The striking silhouette of Brixworth Church is visible when approaching the Northamptonshire village from the north
When you think of England’s historic landmarks
or Westminster Abbey probably come to mind
But tucked away in the heart of the English countryside lies a lesser-known site of importance
Brixworth Church is one of the largest and oldest surviving Anglo-Saxon churches in England
offering a rare glimpse into England’s ancient past without hoardes of tourists
Brixworth Church
was constructed around 200 to 300 years after the Romans left Britain
That means this remarkable building has been standing since the 7th or 8th century
long before the Norman Conquest or even the establishment of the Kingdom of England as we know it today
For history buffs or curious travelers alike
this makes Brixworth a unique window into a time when the country was still divided into Anglo-Saxon kingdoms
What’s even more fascinating is that some of the original architectural features are still intact
You can walk around and explore parts of the building that date back over a thousand years
and the sunken ambulatory crypt—an architectural feature that once surrounded the church’s apse—a semicircular recess behind the altar
While much of the church has been modified over time
what remains of its original structure is a treasure trove for those interested in Anglo-Saxon history
Interior of Brixworth Church in Northamptonshire
Brixworth was once part of the Kingdom of Mercia
Its size and prominence suggest that this wasn’t just a small parish church
but likely a significant religious center for the surrounding area
some of the materials used in the construction of Brixworth Church were recycled from nearby Roman ruins
This mix of Roman influence with early English architecture makes Brixworth a symbol of England’s complex history
standing at the crossroads between two great eras
One of the first things you’ll notice when approaching the church is the impressive tower that dominates the skyline
this tower wasn’t part of the original Anglo-Saxon design
Early English churches didn’t have towers like this
and topped with a tall spire during the 14th century
The round stair turret built into the tower is one of only four remaining in England
making it a rare architectural feature despite its more recent age
and later Gothic elements in the tower exemplifies the church’s long history and the various cultural influences it has absorbed over the centuries
or presbytery—the heart of the church—is separated from the nave by a large arch
Much of this area was rebuilt during the 19th century
but it still rests on the original Anglo-Saxon foundations
much of the church’s interior has been carefully restored to honor its historical significance while preserving as many original features as possible
Archaeological excavations revealed that the church was once larger
which significantly expanded the building's size
but their outlines can still be traced along the church’s structure
If you’re interested in how England’s oldest churches were constructed
Brixworth offers a rare opportunity to see firsthand how architecture evolved over the centuries
While Brixworth’s original design remains a focal point
the church owes much of its survival to the work of Reverend Charles Watkins
who spearheaded its restoration in the 19th century
it was common for churches to be modernized in ways that weren’t always faithful to their historical roots
Watkins did his best to preserve Brixworth’s Anglo-Saxon heritage
but it can still be tricky for historians to determine where the original design ends and where the 19th-century restoration begins
Brixworth remains one of the best-preserved examples of early English Christian architecture
this means that a visit to the church is not only a journey into Anglo-Saxon England but also an exploration of how the past was perceived and preserved by later generations
The church is open daily to visitors 9am-5pm (10am-4pm winter) unless private services or events are taking place
it’s best to make contact in advance if you’re planning a special trip
Regular church services take place at 10.30am on Sundays
There is history to be seen all over Brixworth in Northamptonshire
Paper guides can be purchased upon arrival
The church is the centerpiece of a village that’s packed with history
There is evidence of Iron Age dwelling in the south and a Roman Villa in the north
Created by the local history society, Brixworth Heritage Trail is a mile-long walk through the village that takes in 30 historic buildings
Blue plaques adorn each building listing their stories
Try the Brixworth pâté to appreciate why this rich chicken liver paste is so highly regarded in Northamptonshire and beyond

A parkrun falling in the 22nd of the month is known as a tutu parkrun though I did not spot any wearing of tutus during my run
My start was an early one as I needed to be in Northampton by 7am
Luckily the 05:39 train from London Euston was running with no delays so I did arrive in Northampton at 07:00
It took me about 15 minutes to walk up to Northgate bus station to get the X7 bus at 07:28 that goes to Leicester and through Brixworth and stopping near Brixworth Country Park
This bus was crucial as the next one was over an hour later which have been just a bit late to get to the parkrun comfortably in time for the start
From the bus stop I followed the road signs to Brixworth Country Park
On arrival I was immediately warmly welcomed by the run directors Megan and Mike and the other volunteers
Brixworth Country Park is a very picturesque place in a stunning rural setting making for a stunning parkrun setting
I knew straight away I had made a great choice for my 314th different parkrun
The good weather helped and I took in the picturesque views of the Pitsford Reservoir with boats as it is the home of the Northampton Sailing Club
I learnt that Anglian Water owns and manages Pitsford Reservoir while West Northamptonshire County Council look after the country park
A number of activities are enjoyed here like walking
There are public toilets near the start and finish of the parkrun which always handy especially if you have travelled a long way
Though I nearly always travel by public transport I did find out that the car park is free to use until 10:30 which allows for the parkrun though not much time for refreshments and the parkfaffing in the Park Bistro after the run unless you are one of the speedy runners
The cafe gives a 15% discount for runners with barcodes
It would be good if West Northamptonshire Council could allow a little more free time for parking to for time in the cafe
The volunteers need to pack up quickly after the parkrun in order to leave before 10.30 am and so they enjoy refreshments in a cafe in Brixworth
The first timers welcome was well delivered by a young chap probably working towards his Duke of Edinburgh Award
Hannah looks after the Duke of Edinburgh youngsters who are accompanied by parents/guardians at all times
At the runners briefing a clap was given for the volunteers who are most important as without them there cannot be a run
For milestones there was one runner on her very first parkrun
There were tourists from York and London and I was given a shout out for my 314th different run
As always there is much excitement and anticipation at the start of a parkrun and there was no exception at this event
Unsurprisingly I observed that there was a large number of walkers
It was pacer week which I am told is about a twice monthly event
This out and back course is very scenic along the banks of the Pitsford Reservoir
A couple of fishermen could be seen on the banks
I did spend a fair bit of time stopping to take photos
My road shoes were sufficient on the hard surfaced trail and tarmac paths and there was not too much mud and water on the course
Runners were instructed to keep on the right at all times as runners were met coming the other way on the out and back course
The course was well marshalled and sign posted all along the way so no chance of getting lost
I enjoyed the last part taking us through the country park and up a couple of short hills
It was good to see that there was a photographer
A local runner Matthew Clarke came in first in a time of 19.01
In the results I noticed 29 runners got new PBs
As always it is a nice reward at the finish to chat and catch up with fellow runners and walkers
For me it was helping with picking up the small running cones
packing up the finish funnel and I am proud to say I twisted and folded the pop up sight in my first attempt in one go
Mike McKiernan very kindly gave me a lift to the Olive Branch
It was lovely to join the volunteers at there table for the parkfaffing over delicious refreshments
A real family feeling which I enjoyed very much
I always enjoy exploring the area I have touristed to
It was my first visit to Brixworth and was given good tips on what to see
I particularly enjoyed my visit to the historical All Saints Church
It is the largest English church that remains mostly as it was in the Anglo-Saxon era
On the train going home I was feeling very much that Brixworth Country parkrun is one of the most beautiful of my 314 parkrun events in 13 countries
This fantastic event was made possible by 30 volunteers: John Adcock
My son Mackenzie and I love a bit of parkrun touristing as many parkrunners do
Different people choose a venue for a variety of reasons
it was a chance to revisit a venue that we had first visited last May and really enjoyed
Our friend Sean is trying to increase his tourist streak
He’s very excited that it’s now up to 23 and Pocket was his choice this week
this parkrun was approximately a 50 minute drive from home and we probably set off far too early as we arrived at the leisure centre just after 8am
arriving early allows for finding the toilets and going for a walk or in Sean’s case
it was definitely warming up and we were crossing our fingers for a little breeze and some shade
This course is beautifully flat (compared to what we’re used to at Brixworth Country parkrun in Northamptonshire) with only a couple of minor inclines and I love a trail run anyway
Mackenzie did take off on me and I attempt to catch him up with even pace running by kilometre 3
he has finished parkrun T-shirt-less in an attempt to cooldown but having invested in a parkrun running vest for him
he did keep it on and managed to claim bragging rights this Saturday by 20 seconds
joggers and walkers who completed event number 239
A massive thank you to all the amazing volunteers – without you each week
I’m sure the Core team will welcome any offers of support
and we look forward to visiting again soon

Plans for affordable homes as part of a proposed village hub in Brixworth could help younger residents continue living in the village in the future
The proposed Brixworth Local Services Centre
just off Northampton Road to the north of Brixworth Cricket and Tennis Club
would also deliver a 4,500 sq ft convenience store with a pharmacy
The outline planning application includes 16 affordable homes
classed as homes for sale or rent for people whose needs are not met by the private market
This would help meet “strong local demand” from those who are currently priced out of the local market
In general terms of affordable housing for sale
and discounted homes for first-time buyers
Affordable housing for rent can include affordable or Intermediate Rent (homes let at least 20% below local market rents or let at rates set between market rents and social rents)
or Social Rent (set through the National Rent Regime in England at around 50% of market rents
The affordable homes planned for the Brixworth Local Services Centre are outline only at this stage – more details of what form they could take would come further down the line if planning permission is granted
Charles Church is from property consultant Underwoods and is working closely with the developers to promote the opportunities available should the plans for Brixworth Local Services Centre be approved
He said: “This would provide a much-needed development and fill local need for affordable housing
making Brixworth more accessible to those looking to get on the property ladder or those who need housing at a more affordable rate.”
The team behind the plans says the village desperately needs more
modern facilities to meet the evolving needs of current and future residents
and that the development of facilities in Brixworth has not kept pace with housing growth
Mr Church said the scheme has already attracted interest from a national supermarket operator and a gym operator
Plans for the 2.6-hectare site also includes more than 150 car parking spaces
with a number of electric charging points and for people using the disabled parking spots
This will help to alleviate the village’s parking pressures
Residents in favour of the plans can sign the ‘Say Yes’ petition
which has already attracted more than 180 names
While the plans have been shaped by what residents have said they would like to see in the village
there is still an opportunity to have a say
The petition offers residents the chance to make suggestions as to what facilities they would like to see in Brixworth
Developer Dr Dallas Burston has supported the Brixworth community since working in the village as a GP in the 1980s
He has previously employed 126 people in the village for his pharmaceutical company and spent £250,000 of his own money to build the cricket and tennis centre 20 years ago
He has also planted 29,000 vines at the vineyards
A multi-award winning company has been named among
A valued partnership between two leading Northamptonshire businesses

F1 2026 will see Red Bull create their very first engine from scratch
Automotive giants Ford confirmed in early 2023 that they have joined the project as technical partners
with Red Bull Powertrains having already begun work on site at Milton Keynes

Mercedes have their High Performance Powertrains [HPP] department based at Brixworth in the United Kingdom and have been producing Formula 1 power units there since 1994 after its takeover of Ilmor
Having had its own team to power since Mercedes returned to the grid in 2010
the Mercedes power units of the turbo hybrid era proved both fast and reliable
which led to 40 per cent of the grid being Mercedes powered in the early 2020s prior to this change
As Formula 1’s longest serving and most storied team
to drive for Ferrari also means having one of their own engines in the back of the car
The success of Ferrari power has been mixed throughout the history of the sport
but the team has often had its fair share of customer outfits over time
After opting to step away from Formula 1 at the end of 2021
Honda confirmed they would be returning in 2026 when the sport’s new power unit regulations would take effect
Having stuttered in the mid-2010s with McLaren in the beginning of their previous stint
they eventually rose to enormous success with Red Bull
Aston Martin have agreed an exclusive factory power unit deal with the Japanese marque from the F1 2026 season
Audi will be arriving on the Formula 1 grid for the very first time in the 2026 season after agreeing a majority takeover of the stalwart Sauber team in October 2022
before upgrading that to what will become a full takeover come 2026
Audi’s arrival will also mean a Volkswagen-owned brand will appear on the grid when the 2026 season comes around
with Nico Hulkenberg having already been signed up to represent the team in their first season

The bid of Andretti Global to reach Formula 1 received FIA approval in 2023
whereby their own assessments would take place as to whether an 11th team could join the grid
General Motors confirmed they would be partnering up with them to launch a fully all-American team
creating a power unit through its Cadillac brand
FOM rejected Andretti-Cadillac’s initial plans to join the grid
though in November 2024 it was confirmed an agreement was reached in principle to expand the grid with a Cadillac team
Should the proposal go ahead as now planned, we have put together a handy guide of all you need to know about Cadillac’s proposed entry here
It had been assumed that Renault would continue to power Alpine in F1 2026
former team principal Bruno Famin announced in July 2024 Renault’s intention to reallocate the history engine base in Viry-Chatillon to non-F1 projects
with the highly controversial move confirmed at the end of September
The team subsequently announced a customer power unit deal with Mercedes that would last until 2030
meaning a cheaper way of operating within the sport but without the potential benefits of developing their own factory engine

Championship Celebrations in Brixworth and BrackleyMercedes celebrates a record-breaking sixth consecutive Formula One World Championship double...Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport celebrated its sixth consecutive double in style with special events in Brackley and Brixworth on Wednesday
Lewis and Valtteri visited Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth to celebrate the record-breaking sixth consecutive FIA Formula One Constructors' and Drivers' World Championship with the team that designed and built this year's Championship-winning Power Unit
the drivers and Toto came to Brackley to celebrate with the team responsible for the chassis of the Championship-winning Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+
When Mercedes embarked on the 2019 Formula One season
it had the amazing opportunity to write F1 history: If the team was to win both the constructors' and the drivers' championship again
it would become the first ever to claim six consecutive Formula One double titles
The hopes of every member of the Mercedes motorsport family were high
nine months after the 2019 car first turned a wheel at its shakedown at Silverstone
the team came together in Brackley and Brixworth to celebrate its record-breaking double-championship success
About 1,500 men and women spent months to conceive
build and improve the Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+ which is now a true
"I remember our first management off-site meeting in 2013 where we put our objectives on the wall -it was the first time we wrote down 'We want to fight for a championship'
But Aldo Costa said that we should be more ambitious and make it plural - championships
My first thought was that that's too far-fetched
I still pinch myself sometimes because I can't quite believe it
And this all down to the extremely hard work of this amazing team in Brixworth and Brackley
I feel like a bit of an imposter sometimes because we get to go to the races and take the credit for all the achievements
We've achieved something that has never been done before and we've done it for Mercedes
one of the best-loved brands in the world - it is something that every single one of you can be extremely proud of."
"It's very difficult to find the right words to express my gratitude to all of you for continuing to push every year - it's thanks to you that I've been living my dream
that I've been able to succeed and reach this incredible achievement in my life
I'm incredibly proud to be part of this group and I can't thank you enough for everything that you've done
I never in a million years thought I'd get to six
I grew up watching Formula One and I always wanted to do something like Ayrton
that'd be great; if I could get three titles
And now we've doubled that - it's truly unbelievable
and I hope you've seen some of that in my driving
Valtteri also has done exceptionally well this year and has been an incredible teammate
I'm really proud to work alongside him and I expect him to be a massive challenger next year
We must keep pushing because I know we have more to do - more championships to win
more races to win - and I truly believe that we can do that
I have no words to describe how proud I am to be part of this amazing team and how grateful I am for the work that every single one of you has done to make this achievement possible - I can only imagine the workload
the commitment and all the sacrifices you've made to make this happen
It's amazing to be part of the team that clinched the constructors' title
Let me repeat something I said last year when I was standing here: Let's do it all again next year
Huge congratulations to Lewis as well for winning the drivers' championship this year - next year it won't be that easy..."
"It's been an incredible journey for all of us and it's quite humbling to get together and stand in front of you all
Everybody at Brixworth has worked tirelessly to make sure that both the reliability and the performance of the Power Unit are in a position that allows us to fight for wins and ultimately the championship
The hunger that goes into all the programmes all around the factory is amazing
it's such a self-motivated group of people that just keeps pushing
And I know that our colleagues working on the chassis have worked equally hard towards the same goal
The victory in Austin was the 100th win for Brackley and Brixworth together and I remember driving to Brackley for the first time back in December 2008
I think no one would have predicted the that it would be the start to such an incredible journey for us
It's an absolute pleasure to work with all of you at Brixworth and Brackley - this isn't just a hugely professional group of people but also very kind one and I'm very proud to be a part of it
Massive congratulations to all of not just for the success of this year
but for the success of the last six years where we secured the double
"I've said so many times that what all of you manage to do just keeps setting new standards and keeps surprising everyone in the whole world - probably surprising everyone except this group itself
The strength we all have together is utterly remarkable
We must make sure to keep it like this here at Brackley and at Brixworth so that we can enjoy these moments again in the future because they are amazing and they feel fantastic
Thank you very much for everything you've done to make it possible
I know that many of you are already working on next year's car: we've got a winter ahead of us that is going to be a tough one and we have a season ahead of us that is going to be even tougher
But I am certain that if we show again what we've shown six seasons on the trot
we'll be there fighting for wins and championships again."
Road to W12: What’s Going On at Brixworth? With the reveal of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance just weeks away
both factories in Brackley and Brixworth are a hive of activity
But what exactly are we working on right now
we recently paid a visit to Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth to talk to Hywel Thomas
about what Brixworth is focusing on at the moment and what the atmosphere is like ahead of the new 2021 F1 season
we’ve got plenty of engines in build at the moment getting ready for the new season
We have already got some of them together and we have also got engines running on the dynos right now
There are also engines for our customers too
which are already with them and either in the back of their chassis and fired up
We have got some issues with the Power Units; we know we have issues but we have plenty of plans in place to fix all of those issues
I’m sure it will all be ready for the first race.“
Hywel: It is an exciting time at the factory
We get to see the fruits of our labour and see how much performance we have put on the engine
to see what the durability of the engines are and of course
what we don’t know is what other people have been doing at their factories
but also nervousness of wondering whether we have done enough..
Hywel: The winter is always a challenging time for us
and this year there have been a few extra additional things thrown at us
It’s been the first winter where we’ve had to react to a change to the regulations
which limits the amount of dyno hours we’re able to run
This means we have to make every single dyno run count and must make sure that we are entirely productive
to learn about the performance and the reliability of the Power Unit during each hour
it’s the first winter where we have prepared for only one single upgrade for the whole season
we have to get all of our performance into the first PU that goes to the first race
whereas in previous seasons we have been able to split that up into different packages for each PU that gets introduced
we have to get absolutely everything there for the first race and make sure it’s completely reliable
there are more races this season and the same number of Power Units
which means that each individual Power Unit needs to run across more races
We just have to make sure that we are ready for that and focus even more on reliability
We also have the challenge of a pretty short winter
as we didn’t finish racing until the middle of December and now
we’ve had more to do and less time to do it in
Hywel: All the work we have been doing is on the backdrop of the global pandemic
which of course adds some extra problems and some extra challenges for us
The safety for our staff is absolutely key to us
we had to do many changes to the site in order to make sure that it is COVID secure
so all the testing and protocols that have been put in place are absolutely imperative for us
We also have some members of staff that can work from home and we’ve done everything we can to get them working from home
The amount of IT and the amount of innovation that people working from home have done to make sure that they can be as effective as possible is impressive to see
I am not entirely sure how we would have coped 20 years ago
we are more effective than we have been in the past
We’ll keep evolving and will try to make the most of the situation we are in
we welcome McLaren back as a Power Unit customer and in terms of day to day life at Brixworth
the most important thing for us is because we’ll be producing more engines and sending more engines to races
we don’t want to have to freeze the specifications any earlier
and we really need to make sure that we are getting every ounce of performance and reliability into the Power Units
that gives us the challenge of understanding how we can build the engines
can we be more productive and we’ve got all the plans in place so we can build those extra 25 percent without having a huge impact on what we are able to take to the circuit
the biggest regulatory change for us in 2022 is the change in the fuel
turning to an E10 fuel that includes some sustainable ethanol
That’s a challenge for us and our fuel supplier
we’ll have gone through the 2021 pre-season project by that point and have a better understanding of the new dyno restrictions
plus the fact we are only allowed one single performance upgrade per season
we are slightly changing the way we are doing the project
to understand the impacts of those regulation changes and reacting with any relevant tweaks to make sure we are making the most of the opportunities we have.
