Goals from Mackenzie Ross, Dom Plank and Gus Stevenson in the second half sealed the three points for the Wee Jambos. Angus Beith made three changes from the 3-0 defeat against Albion Rovers last Friday night. Jamie MacDonald replaced Lyndon Tas in goal, Mackenzie Ross came in for Aiden Haddow in attack, and Ryan Duncan started in place of Taylor Hogarth.  The Brox looked the most threatening in the opening 10 minutes. Alassan Jones sprinted down the left wing and fired in a dangerous low cross which found striker Errol Douglas, who’s strike was saved initially by Jamie MacDonald, with Jones following into bundle home the rebound, but it was offside.  Just a few minutes later, Skipper Kenzi Nair made a fantastic block to deny Shaun Brown’s strike in the box.  There was some good linkup play between Connor Dow and Mackenzie Ross who played a neat one two and Ross broke down the right handside and drove into the box, but Broxburn mopped up well in defence.  Just before the break, Broxburn were reduced to 10 men. Referee Daniel Graves showed Errol Douglas a red card for wrestling Gregor Crookston to the ground.  Half-time: Broxburn Athletic 0-0 Heart of Midlothian  The sending off was certainly a big turning point in the match, as Hearts looked to capitalise and began to cause the Broxburn defence problems.  In the 59th minute, the Jam Tarts opened the scoring. The ball fell to the feet of Mackenzie Ross in the box, who hit a powerful low strike on his right foot which took a deflection and into the back of the net for 1-0.  The hosts looked to hit back straight away. Jones looked to profit from a slip from Lucas Smith, as he nipped in behind and hit a strike on his left foot in the box, but couldn’t find the right connection to trouble Jamie MacDonald in goal for Hearts.  On 65 minutes, Ryan Duncan stepped up to take the free kick at the edge of the Broxburn box. He looked to whip the free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner, but it went wide of the right hand post.  With 20 to go, Alfie Osborne dinked the ball brilliantly over the top of the defence which found Connor Dow. He hit one on his left foot which went wide of the target. The Wee Jambos doubled their advantage on 76 minutes. Dom Plank played straight through on goal, he drove into the box and coolly slotted past Watt into the bottom right corner for 2-0.  Gus Stevenson put the game to bed on 86 minutes. He hit a great low strike on his right foot in the box which nestled into the bottom left corner for 3-0.  The Wee Jambos secured the victory and ended their 2024/25 campaign on a high.  Broxburn Athletic: Watt, Morris, Rodden, Page, Thomson, Bell, Brown, Jones, Douglas, Irving, Locke © Subs: Downie, Mwangi, Culbert, Brass, Ellis, Page, Pettigrew Hearts: MacDonald, Smith (James 79’), Nair ©, Smutek, Stevenson, Duncan, Plank, Ross (Hogarth 79’), Crookston, Dow (Robb 87’), Osborne (S. The Edinburgh Reporter brings you news all about Edinburgh Berwick slipped to their fourth consecutive league defeat on a disappointing afternoon at Broxburn Athletic A contentious Gary Brass opener gave Broxburn a half time lead before a second Brass goal and an Errol Douglas strike gave the hosts a 3-0 victory Thomas Scobbie made just the one change from the Scottish Cup defeat at Forfar with Jamie Pyper making his second debut for the club Berwick started the game positively and created the first real opening of the game when St Johnstone loanee Ben McCrystal danced past three Broxburn players into the penalty area but his effort went about a yard wide of the post Broxburn have made a strong start to life in the Lowland League and despite being made to battle for everything by Berwick they did have moments where they showed their quality when Owen Wardell’s dangerous cross evaded both Brass and Douglas before Alassan Jones inexplicably took an awful touch when he had space to potentially have a shot at goal when they did get the ball down and play a little More good work from McCrystal saw his shot blocked but it fell to Kane O’Connor 30 yards from goal but he saw his effort go wide of the post Wardell on the right was beginning to show his quality and he almost created a goal for Broxburn on the half hour He was one on one with Owen Calder and made enough room to deliver a brilliant cross for Brass but his header was tipped over by Callum Antell Berwick went behind in contentious circumstances A ball through to Scott McCrory-Irving saw the midfielder not flagged despite being about a yard offside and he squared it to Brass who slotted past Antell There were huge protestations from the Berwick defenders and fans but the goal was given McCrystal’s corner from the left found Jamie McCormack who did brilliantly to head down into the turf but Brass was on the line to prevent the equaliser It was another promising first half performance from Berwick and there was another opportunity five minutes after the break to get level Jamie Watson got free down the right wing and delivered a decent cross into the box but Lewis Barr wasn’t able to get on the end of it Broxburn doubled their lead with a goal that nobody could question Good possession in the Berwick half saw Kyle Bell release Luke Morris with a brilliant pass down the right and his low cross found Brass in the area who swept home a fantastic team goal Berwick were beginning to hold on a little and almost conceded a third in quick order A goalmouth scramble saw Berwick defenders unable to clear the ball and ended with Wardell’s effort being saved on the line by Antell Broxburn were beginning to turn the screw and A hopeful long ball by Wardell was chased down by Douglas who held off substitute Alfie Robinson and rifled the ball beyond Antell for his 12th league goal of the season Things got even worse for Berwick when Laidlaw who had barely been on the pitch 20 minutes as a substitute went off with a recurrence of a shoulder injury from an innocuous challenge and the ten men of Berwick almost conceded a fourth but were relieve to see Fionn Kay inexplicably head wide from about six yards out means Berwick slip to 14th in the Lowland League although a win in the game in hand would move the ‘Gers up to 10th Up next is a midweek trip to Newtown Park to take on Bo’ness United in more Lowland League action Live coverage as Dalkeith Thistle host Broxburn Athletic in the first round of the Scottish Cup Dundee United can confirm Academy graduate Bryan Mwangi's loan spell with Lowland League side Broxburn Athletic has been extended until the end of the 2024/25 campaign A formative stint in his native West Lothian Mwangi has opened his senior account with strikes against East Stirlingshire and Gala Fairydean whilst attaining over 1,100 minutes of senior action the classy wideman has contributed six G/A towards his temporary employers' the competition set to continue this Saturday as Albyn park hosts a Fourth Round clash with Championship high-flyers Ayr United Everyone at Dundee United wishes Bryan and Broxburn Athletic the best of luck for the rest of the season Angus Beith praised the controlled performance of his Hearts B side as they beat Broxburn Athletic 3-0 in their final game of the season at Albyn Park on Saturday The Wee Jambos scored three goals in the second half Speaking to the Official Hearts Website at full-time “We actually didn't start amazingly in the first 10 minutes but from then on we performed really well and competed brilliantly “We asked the boys before the start of the game to make sure they nailed the fundamentals that’s the key when you come away from home We did that and we played with real confidence today.”  Broxburn striker Errol Douglas was sent off just before half-time which reduced the hosts to 10 men but Beith said his side’s performance in the second 45 merited the three points but we were the one in the team in the ascendancy and the one creating the opportunities and went about it quite maturely in the second-half and punished them as well when we created our opportunities Beith explained that his defence was crucial in helping to control the game for the Jambos: “What was key was the centre halves use of the ball because they had a lot of time in possession I said to them at half time to make sure they stay concentrated So they controlled that really well for us and made good decisions “We then managed to get it to our players at the top end of the pitch on the ball in good positions.”  The manager was pleased with Gus Stevenson’s performance and the overall attacking display from his side always looking for the ball and was looking to disrupt and cause problems for them along the corner as well It was really good for Dom (Plank) to get his goal today as well “Gus is a threat running in behind but also receiving the ball in between the lines So I thought his partnership with Alfie Osborne worked really well today It's probably the best game that I've seen him have for the B team Beith believes that marking the end of the campaign with a victory will help Hearts B build into next season:  I said to them at half-time that sometimes you come away from home but unsure if you know that you can play the same football you want to we were really confident on the ball in tight spaces on the pitch “So I think that in itself gives us confidence going into next year that we can come to these away grounds that are tough places to play at times © Copyright 2016 - 2025 Heart of Midlothian Officers were called to Broxburn Academy on Tuesday following reports of a taser potentially being on the grounds. In a statement shared on Facebook, headteacher Shona Wallace said the item was quickly recovered and found not to be a taser. She added that pupils were kept in classrooms as a precaution while investigations were carried out. “Please rest assured that there was no risk to pupils or staff at any point during this incident,” she said. “Pupils are attending classes as normal.” Police Scotland confirmed the incident was a false alarm. Mike Carlin was ahead at all stages of the Single Transferrable Vote count in the by-election but Labour’s June Andrews began to catch up as the count eliminated other candidates.  and a significant percentage of their transfers went to the SNP Labour also received transfers from Reform but SNP received enough to push Mr Carlin over the winning line and win at Stage 7.  112 more than his Labour rival on 1,263.  who has contested every by-election since he stood in the July 2024 General Election again beat the Scottish Conservative’s candidate He was only eliminated at the end of the Stage 6 of the STV system.  Mr McLennan polled 809 votes to Tory Marnie Taylor’s 324.   Mr Carlin’s election restores the opposition SNP group to 15 members on West Lothian Council.  He also retained the seat in the face of a potential split in the Nationalist vote from a challenge by former party group depute leader Frank Anderson who stood as candidate for the Alba party.   Mr Anderson – who was deselected by the SNP in the East Livingston and East Calder Ward for the 2022 council elections – polled 135 votes.  The by -election was called in January after the SNP’s Diane Calder announced her retirement after representing the Broxburn Uphall and Winchburgh ward for 12 years.   Mr Carlin will join the party’s group leader   Councillor Janet Campbell as the second SNP councillor for the ward which also has a Labour and Conservative member.  and leader of the opposition SNP group  said: “I would like to warmly congratulate Councillor Mike Carlin who today joined the SNP group on West Lothian Council This was a resounding win for the SNP  in the Broxburn Uphall and Winchburgh ward where Councillor Carlin was in the lead at all stages of the count “Mike was an astounding candidate who worked extremely hard in order to achieve success for the SNP and for our journey to Independence.” Newly elected  councillor Mr Carlin told the Local Democracy Reporting Service on Friday afternoon: “I am passionate about our local community and will always put community interest first During the campaign I met many residents and listened to their concerns “This is a great day for the SNP and I’m delighted to be representing people living in my ward June Andrews (Scottish Labour) – 1,263  Chris Cotter (Scottish Greens) – 185  Oliver Thomas Ferrario (Scottish Liberal Democrats) – the dugout made two changes from last time out against Cowdenbeath with Ryan Duncan and Mackenzie Ross replacing James Wilson and Gregor Crookston The Wee Jambos looked comfortable in the early exchanges despite the freezing conditions at Ainslie Park Skipper Callum Sandilands had an early chance to open the scoring with an acrobatic effort that deflected off a Broxburn defender Hearts would soon capitalise on their promising start to the match Dominic Plank charged down the left wing and flicked the ball into the path of Sandilands and he picked out Ross who slotted past goalkeeper Robert Watt into the bottom corner for 1-0 chances were few and far between for either side in the first half Broxburn saw a lot of the ball but struggled to cause the Hearts defence any real issues The home side had a good chance to double their advantage just before the break who’s shot forced a save from Watt from close range It was great play once more down the right flank as Gus Stevenson played a cut-back to Matty Gillies at the edge of the box but his strike was blocked by a Broxburn defender and out for a corner the Jambos defence managed to stay compact as Broxburn began to grow into the game and looked threatening from set-pieces in particular The away side whipped in a dangerous corner but his effort was headed brilliantly off the line by skipper Sandilands Following yet another teasing ball into the box it came off the head of defender Lucas Smith which forced a spectacular reaction save from Hearts goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald to protect the lead Plank went on a brilliant run down the left wing before passing to Mackenzie Ross but his effort was easily claimed by Watt in goal The Brox continued to turn the screw as they looked for a late leveller Skipper Errol Douglas had a golden opportunity in the 85th minute Substitute Gary Brass floated a ball into the six yard box which Douglas met but his header was straight at Jamie MacDonald from close range The Wee Jambos had the chance to put the game to bed just moments later Sandilands attempted to round the goalkeeper The ball fell to Macaulay Tait at the edge of the box who’s eyes lit up at the sight of an empty net but his effort was blocked and put behind for a corner as the men in maroon saw out the remainder of the match to pick up all three points had good control in the game and we carried a threat We created good opportunities; it was just the last moment or final pass that let us down “The first half it was a really positive performance from us looked long too many times and that played into their strengths “But the real pleasing aspect for me is us seeing out the result with a clean sheet We've been working loads in training recently on defending the box so to keep a clean sheet and to see out that period of momentum where they were after us and creating chances was really important and pleasing.”  The incident happened between 12am and 12.30am on Tuesday Allan McCullough attacked his victims in Broxburn, in West Lothian, between January 2016 and September 2018. The 38-year-old had denied a series of charges during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh but was convicted by a jury of two crimes on majority verdicts. He was found guilty of assaulting and raping a woman at an address in the town on various occasions when she was asleep and incapable of giving or withholding consent between January 2016 and September 2018. On some occasions, McCullough continued with the attack after the woman had woken from sleep. McCullough was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 at a house between January 2016 and September 2017 when the child was pretending to be asleep. After the jury returned its verdicts, defence solicitor advocate Iain McSporran KC said McCullough understood the gravity of the offences and that only a custodial sentence would be considered by the court. First offender McCullough was on bail during his trial but was remanded in custody following his conviction. The trial judge, Thomas Welsh KC, adjourned sentence until next month for the preparation of a background report on him and placed him on the sex offenders’ register.
