but I have tried to do this every year since I became Event Director I have been jetting in and out of Brundall most of this year but coming back to Brundall parkrun is always a brilliant and always feels like home The one thing I miss is seeing regulars Brundall runners I saw someone the other day and they said they had not been at Brundall for a year The start of the year was very wet and meant out New Years Day park and following week was cancelled in fact by the 17th Feb we had cancelled 3 parkruns But we know the park pretty well these days But by March we were on a roll and our numbers were into the hundreds most weeks Simon Suter became our 40000th parkrunner in March and the following week we held an Easter Scout take over Parkwalking at Brundall parkrun Since its inception we have always had volunteers for this role and I love to see people walking the course and enjoying doing parkrun If you want to take this role then let us know sometimes you have a load of people other times you walk on your own But we would not be without a parkwalker on the roster but after doing such a great job a few years ago Vikki stepped up she sported the blue bib alongside a lovely Rey fancy dress Kylo and a few other aliens or were they just runners November bought Halloween and another chance for fancy dress and a spooky run 137 people came along we then had a late cancellation with meant our 400th was moved by one week We had a new soft toy with Stanley the Vitality dog joining the team As we finished the year here are the numbers The most people running Brundall since 2019 What will 2025 bring? You never know, but with the parkrun family growing I hope we continue to see the weekly support. As always it’s been a brilliant year for Brundall, we have grown and the regular feedback I hear is it a friendly, community based parkrun and the RD’s are always smiling and laughing. Anyway I think that is enough for the year, hopefully gives an indication of what we have done! © parkrun Limited (Company Number: 07289574) No part of this site may be reproduced in whole or in part in any manner without the permission of the copyright owner. Frameworks, 2 Sheen Road, Richmond, TW9 1AE Brundall’s Neighbourhood Plan, adopted in 2016, identified that the village had limited recreational facilities and the plan supports the provision of new and expanded facilities including formal outdoor sports pitch. Through collaborative efforts with Broadland District Council, a piece of land was secured as part of the Church Mead development for formal recreational purposes. The project was made possible through a S106 development agreement, stipulating the inclusion of a 3G pitch. Recognising the need for more than just a pitch, Brundall Parish Council included a pavilion with changing rooms, kitchen, and a community space within the Sports Hub project. Despite setbacks due to the impact of Covid-19 and rising material costs, grants from the Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB) and the Football Foundation enabled the completion of the pavilion and the overall project. The opening event will be a celebration with representatives from the Greater Norwich Growth Board, the Football Foundation, Community Sports Foundation, Brundall Bolts FC, and members of the Brundall Parish Council coming together to officially inaugurate the hub. Kevin Wilkins, Chairman of Brundall Parish Council, said: Our long held ambition has been to significantly enhance recreational provision in the village and the Parish Council is delighted that Brundall Sports Hub, with a state of the art 3G pitch, is now open for use. Councillor Sue Holland, Leader of Broadland District Council and Chair of GNGB said: This is a great example of what can be achieved for our communities when we all work together. This fantastic project has been funded by a forward thinking agreement with the developer, ensuring that local communities benefit from housing growth, a grant from the Greater Norwich Growth Board, a collaboration of local authorities, and with the help of the Football Foundation. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in delivering the Brundall Sports Hub. Brundall Gardens station, on the Norwich – Great Yarmouth / Lowestoft ‘Wherry Lines’ rail routes, opened on 1 August 1924, in response to the increasing number of tourists who were making their way to the lakes and waterways near the station. It’s the youngest station on the Wherry lines. Known as the Switzerland of Norfolk, the Gardens eventually closed to the public in the late 1930s and much of the area has since been redeveloped. However, some of the homes and structures created in the 1920s along with the railway station remain. Originally known as Brundall Gardens Halt, the station was threatened with closure during the 1960s but a local campaign saw the station survive. Today, the station serves the local community and is operated by Greater Anglia’s fleet of new trains that have helped punctuality on the line reach record levels. It also benefits from the care and attention of volunteer ‘station adopters’ Greg Chandler and Gillian Lincoln, who have transformed the station with stunning floral displays and wildlife areas to help support local flora and fauna. They have won numerous awards for their efforts including achieving Wildlife Friendly Accreditation in 2022. In addition, the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership provides support and funding for improvements at the station as part of its work to keep the branch line thriving. Martin Halliday, Development officer at Community Rail Norfolk said: “We were delighted to work with station adopters Greg Chandler and Gillian Lincoln to celebrate 100 years since the youngest station on the Wherry Lines, and one of the smallest, first opened. “Many people are unaware of the illustrious history behind both the gardens and its station. Being such a beautiful, tranquil location, it seemed fitting that our modest celebration involved those that live and work in the vicinity today.” Chris Mitchell, Chair of the Wherry lines Community Rail Partnership said: “It was a great honour to join with stakeholders from the Wherry Lines to celebrate 100 years since the station first opened and to discover more about both the station and the gardens for which it was first built to serve. Greg and Gillian work really hard to make the station such a welcoming gateway for rail passengers as well as a haven for wildlife.” Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager, Alan Neville, commented: “Brundall Gardens has seen many changes over its 100-year history but arguably, is now enjoying a real golden era, being served by new trains which have transformed punctuality levels for the line and looking absolutely stunning thanks to the work of station adopters from the local community. “You can really feel how important and loved this station is by the community it serves and I would like to thank Greg, Gill and the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership for their vital contributions for which we are extremely grateful.” Rail Business Daily’s market leading news and profile enhancement services enable your business to tell your story to the wider rail community.
