a new PB This was Burnham’s 300th event having started on 22nd July 2017 The course consisted of running on pavement running around the edge of the park heading towards a ramp Once having gone up the ramp there was a sharp bend Running along the promenade was flat and on pavement This was very scenic and picturesque with views of the River Crouch We then turned right onto a grass field and looped back on ourselves The first part on grass was a gradual ascent but running on some grass and then down a gravel ramp The course returned on grass as we ran past a park and back to the start point The fastest male finisher was Shay Joyce running a very impressive 18:21 and fastest female finisher was Celine Wingrove running an amazing time of 22:27 Well done to everyone who ran and walked today Shay Joyce was also the first finisher of Burnham’s first ever parkrun There was 21 people who came to Burnham for the first time and a further 6 who completed their first parkrun ever It seemed that most of the tourists had travelled from different locations in Essex: Chelmsford The course was well sign-posted alongside marshalls helpfully directing you The marshalls were very friendly and encouraging – so make sure to give them a thank you as you run round This encouragement was greatly appreciated as it made sure that I didn’t give up and continued to the finish line I would like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers without them parkrun would not be able to go ahead so their efforts are greatly appreciated There are plenty of roles that enable you to participate in the parkrun and get a volunteering credit so don’t ever be too afraid to put your name down There was a block of toilets which were open before and after the run There is also a park right by the course and there are plenty of places to grab a well-deserved post parkrun coffee by heading left along the promenade The car park was free and was easy to get parked in a massive thank you to all the volunteers who made this parkrun amazing: Barbara McDonnell Hopefully some of you will give Burnham a go and I hope to be back soon © parkrun Limited (Company Number: 07289574) No part of this site a ground floor property in Glendale Close today (Tuesday 16 July) at 2.12am Watch Manager Jon Vincent said: "The occupant had put his cigarette in an ash tray next his armchair when he got up to go to the kitchen because the ash try was overflowing and cigarette was not properly extinguished Crews from Burnham and South Woodham Ferrers attended got into the flat quickly and extinguished the fire. They also gave the occupant oxygen and used a high pressure fan to clear the smoke They limited fire damage to the lounge but smoke spread throughout the property because the internal doors were not closed The fire was extinguished by 3.18am and crews remained at the scene until 4.20am Watch Manager Vincent said: "The occupant did exactly the right thing by getting out quickly allowing our crews to do a really professional job "If you’re a smoker or you know someone who is "Make sure your cigarette is completely extinguished before you dispose of it and empty your ash trays regularly to stop ash building up." If you're a smoker or you have a smoker living in your house make sure you follow our advice to stay safe Firefighters from Burnham and South Woodham Ferrers that attended this incident are on-call
