Leeds pipped Burnley to the title, Coventry and Bristol City secured the final two play-off places, while Luton and Plymouth were relegated on an eventful final day in the Championship
United needed to match Burnley’s result to be crowned champions due to their superior goal difference
and they eventually did just that following an afternoon of toil
courtesy of a last-gasp strike from Manor Solomon
Daniel Farke’s side equalised through Wilfried Gnonto’s third effort in as many games shortly after half-time
After Mihailo Ivanovic’s early opener for play-off hopefuls Millwall at Turf Moor
Josh Brownhill took his goal tally for the season to 18 and Jaidon Anthony struck to give Burnley a 3-1 triumph and leave them second with 100 points
Millwall and Middlesbrough were left disappointed in their hunt for a top-six spot
Jack Rudoni’s brace took Frank Lampard’s Coventry to a 2-0 home win over Boro, and Ross McCrorie scored twice as Bristol City fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against relegation-threatened Preston at Ashton Gate.
Blackburn were heading into the top six at the Robins’ expense when Yuki Ohashi gave Rovers the lead at Bramall Lane, but they were pegged back by Anel Ahmedhodzic’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.
Luton’s second successive relegation was confirmed after a 5-3 defeat at West Brom, with Tom Fellows, Callum Styles and Millenic Alli (Luton) all scoring twice at the Hawthorns.
Therefore, the Hatters needed a big favour at Fratton Park, but Hull survived to hang on for a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, after Christian Saydee equalised for the hosts in the 55th minute.
Derby and Stoke played out a goalless draw to retain their second-tier spots.
Sunderland will go into their play-off semi-final against Coventry after five consecutive losses.
QPR, with assistant coaches Kevin Betsy and Xavi Calm in charge after Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave, claimed a 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light after Nicolas Madsen’s early finish.
Jack Wilshere won the battle with his former Arsenal teammate Aaron Ramsey after Norwich beat Cardiff 4-2 at Carrow Road, with Marcelino Nunez scoring on either side of Calum Chambers’ 16th-minute red card.
Ji-Sung Eom scored a stunner as Swansea, who recently appointed Alan Sheehan on a permanent basis and had Joe Allen playing his final game before retirement, drew 3-3 at home to Oxford, who equalised late on through Przemyslaw Placheta.
Josh Windass, in what could be his final appearance for Sheffield Wednesday, netted in a 1-1 draw at Watford.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United celebrate winning the Championship
Troy Deeney has weighed in on who he thinks will stay up
It was an incredible season from the Championship’s top two as Daniel Farke and Scott Parker should be proud of their efforts
With Leeds prevailing though, Parker was frustrated goal difference decided the title
as Leeds’ 95 goals trumped Burnley’s defensive success
But with both now promoted, a difficult challenge of the Premier League awaits both teams
This has brought Troy Deeney to assess who he thinks could stay up
Both sides will be set for an exciting summer as the ownerships are looking to pump a significant amount of money into their squads
This has been made clear in the Leeds camp as Paraag Marathe wants to spend £100m
Leeds have shown they are clear of the Championship
but the top flight could give Farke a harsh reality
as out of both clubs he has backed Burnley to stay up over Leeds due to one thing
Deeney said: “What we’ve noticed with the teams that have gone up into the Premier League is they’ve struggled to keep clean sheets
have the best foundation to go and be successful next year
they are going to have to add quality because we know the gap is getting bigger each year
and if you ask me to put my money on who will stay up
I would have to say Burnley over Leeds because they can shut up shop and make sure that they are in games
people are losing before they even get there.”
READ MORE: Paraag Marathe reveals major transfer strategy at Leeds United, could replicate Ao Tanaka signing
this shouldn’t put any shade on the Whites’ defence
which has been an integral part of the title-winning campaign
Farke has shown he can manage both areas of defence and attack effectively this season
but even though Parker’s defence did superbly
Leeds actually come out on top with one statistic
Leeds had a better expected goals against
and that factor has remained with the season coming to it’s end
So when it comes to ‘shutting up shop’ the Whites are actually better
and if you think about the amount of shots both sides will face next season
Parker’s side might hold out defensively in the second tier

BURNLEY stars were serenaded by Natasha Bedingfield on the Turf Moor pitch after their win over Millwall
The Clarets finished their season with a 3-1 win over the South London side and reached 100 points
There was disappointment as Leeds United sealed the Championship title on goal difference following their win over Plymouth Argyle
However, it was short-lived as Burnley players and fans were busy celebrating the return to the Premier League
Scott Parker's side sealed promotion on April 21 but were now in full jubilation following the climax of the campaign
The players were treated to a special performance from noughties legend Natasha Bedingfield
Fans loved the surprise appearance from the Unwritten star as they reacted on social media.
One posted: "Absolutely class, they got Natasha Bedingfield."
A second wrote: "Must admit, Natasha Beddingfield singing Unwritten live at the Turf was not on my 2025 bingo card."
A third commented: "Natasha Beddingfield singing Unwritten at Burnley after the match today is one of the most random things I have seen in football."
but do they have Natasha Bedingfield singing at their promotion party?"
Another added: "Promotion party and a live appearance by Natasha Bedingfield
Bedingfield continued to celebrate with the players in the changing room
The star and players came together to sing Unwritten
Her appearance could be down to the players singing the 2004 classic when they confirmed promotion against Sheffield United
She was also pictured having a celebratory drink with Parker
Burnley must have thought that they had won the title as Josh Brownhill's brace and Jaydon Anthony fired them to victory
Leeds were on the brink of succumbing to a 1-1 draw away at relegated Plymouth
That was until Manor Solomon fired in a 91st-minute winner at Home Park to send the first-place trophy to Yorkshire

Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni has been on loan at Benfica since last summer and the Eagles have an option to make his stay permanent for €18m
On April 26th, A Bola stated Bruno Lage’s side have no plans to activate the €18m buyout option and that Burnley have no plans to lower the price
Monday’s edition of Record partly backs up A Bola’s earlier claim and then provides their own take on this case
Lage has utilised him across several attacking positions
The Burnley man has played less than 1,400 minutes from 43 games
managing nine goals and three assists in the process
The Lisbon club have already decided not to pay €18m to Burnley
but that doesn’t mean they don’t want to retain him
Record’s title says the Primeira Liga club ‘intend to negotiate the option’ with Burnley
it’s explained Benfica will only retain Amdouni if the Clarets were to lower the price
Earlier claims have stated Scott Parker’s side are refusing to drop the price
who secured promotion to the Premier League
need to soften their stance for Benfica to buy the Switzerland international
Burnley risk losing the midfielder on a free transfer at the end of next month
His contract at Turf Moor expires in late June and he is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension
is due to become a free agent as things stand
He has scored 18 goals in 44 games in all competitions this season
Parker has said, as per a report by the Burnley Express: “We’ll probably just celebrate tonight with the team and we’ll have some chats with Josh and see where his future lies.”
He added: “This is a guy that brings solid traits
he’s been a main driver of what we tried to create in the changing room
He’s been a true leader and a captain of this group and has been a major part of why we’ve done what we’ve done
Burnley are back in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship. They finished 2nd behind Leeds United and won 3-1 at home to Millwall over the weekend with Brownhill scoring twice
Burnley risk losing Brownhill for nothing which would be a huge blow
They will hope that their recent promotion can persuade him to stick around
He has the chance to weigh up his options though and see what other opportunities are available though
It may well come down to finances in the end
Brownhill has been with his current club since joining them back in 2020. Prior to his transfer, he had been on the books at Manchester United, Preston North End and Bristol City
He has made 211 appearances in all competitions for Burnley to date
The Warrington-born man has found the net on 32 occasions
Burnley missed out on the title to Leeds United over the weekend. The Whites scored late against Plymouth Argyle to take top spot
it has still be a great campaign for the Clarets and they will be proud of what they have achieved
They turned to Parker last year after Vincent Kompany’s exit to Bayern Munich and the former Fulham and AFC Bournemouth man has done an impressive job
Burnley have a big summer ahead now and need to ensure that they get their recruitment right
It is yet to be known right now whether Brownhill will stay or leave and his situation continues to be up in the air

364 CommentsAn incredible Championship title race came to a fitting end on Saturday
running all the way into stoppage time before Leeds United finally pipped Burnley to the post
Manor Solomon's last-gasp winner at relegated Plymouth Argyle meant Leeds matched the Clarets' win over play-off chasing Millwall
just as the home fans at Turf Moor were gearing up for an almighty party
It was an epic ending to what has statistically been the most closely-fought hunt for the title
two teams reached 100 points in the same Championship campaign
with Leeds' superior goal difference proving decisive
With Birmingham City also finishing with 111 points in League One
it is the first time in the Football League's 137-year history that three sides have earned a century of points in the same campaign

Pop star Natasha Bedingfield sang on the pitch after Burnley secured promotion
including a Championship-best 30 clean sheets - equalling Port Vale's Football League record set in 1953-54 - and have conceded just 16 goals
and have been unbeaten in 33 Championship games since losing at Millwall in November
It seemed unlikely they would not return to the Premier League as champions
"If you'd have said to me you'd reach 100 points
16 goals conceded and you wouldn't win the league I'd have said 'no chance'," Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire
after adding a third promotion to his name after success with Fulham in 2020 and Bournemouth in 2022
"We've done remarkably this year
We came into today hoping it would go our way
but wanting to win the game and get to 100 points
where Burnley have thrived as a defensive unit
they were by some distance the top scorers in the division
Dan James (12) and Solomon (10) have all reached double figures this season
"I can't put into words what I'm feeling right now
It is a dream come true to score the winning goal and take this Championship," an emotional Solomon told BBC Radio Leeds at full-time
"Throughout the season we've shown we deserve this trophy and to finish in the first spot
"We all knew what was happening at Burnley and we knew we needed to score
It paid off and the ball went into the net
It will take me a few days to digest what happened today
right now I'm going to celebrate."
Leeds boss Daniel Farke (right) has won promotion from the Championship for the third time
Leeds boss Daniel Farke has vast experience of getting out of the Championship
He did so as champions with Norwich City in 2019 and 2021 and has now led the West Yorkshire club back to the Premier League after bouncing back from play-off final heartache against Southampton a year ago
Farke told BBC Sport: "Of course I'm happy that we won this game in the final stages and are officially allowed to label ourselves as champions and the best team this season
"It's an emotionally moving day because we have invested so much and wanted to crown ourselves with some silverware
pretty special in the dressing room and I'm very happy for my players and staff
Nobody should forget Sheffield United, either. Although four defeats in five games in April, including a loss at Burnley which ultimately knocked them out of contention for automatic promotion
the Blades led for long periods and looked the most likely
Chris Wilder's side will need to go again in the play-offs
starting against Bristol City in the semi-finals
They have shown their readiness for the Premier League this season
a tally which would have been enough to go up automatically in three of the previous six seasons
While that points to a more competitive top of the Championship than ever
successive seasons with all three promoted clubs coming down
A strong defensive unit will be crucial to hopes of survival
believes his team have a strong chance of improvement this time around
we look in really good shape to go up for next season and hopefully stay up
It is going to be difficult but we've worked hard on everything; our defensive record speaks for itself," he told BBC Radio 5 Live
"Credit to the staff and the fans but mainly the gaffer
our defensive record has been exceptional."
Never before have two teams accrued so many points in the same season at the top of the second tier
Their consistency and strength of character laid the groundwork
both they and Burnley can revel in achievements fit for the history books

Burnley have agonisingly missed out on the Championship title to end a memorable season with disappointment on the final day
Scott Parker's side were level with Leeds United on 97 points at the start of Saturday's action before beating Millwall 3-1 at home
Leeds also won as they came from a goal down to beat the relegated Plymouth Argyle on their travels
Willy Gnonto fired them level and a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Manor Solomon clinched the silverware for the Whites
Leeds have finished the 2024/25 Championship season on 100 points
and so have Burnley ahead of their Premier League returns
But the Clarets will despair in the fact that reaching a century wasn't enough for them to win the title due to an inferior goal difference
Across all 46 matches in the Championship this season, Burnley lost on just two occasions.
They also went unbeaten at home and kept 30 clean sheets in total but have had to settle for second.
Josh Brownhill scored two goals in their victory over Millwall, with Jaidon Anthony also on the scoresheet at Turf Moor.
it's Daniel Farke's side who have finished top of the table to win their fifth ever title in the second division
Burnley boss Parker told talkSPORT: "I'm a pretty emotional guy to be honest with you
"Any other year would have probably been enough to win the title
but nothing short of proud and pretty remarkable what we've done this year."
Elsewhere on an action-packed final day, Coventry City were 2-0 winners against Middlesbrough to confirm their play-off spot
Bristol City have joined them after coming from 2-0 down to draw against Preston North End
Following Cardiff City into League One for next season are Plymouth
who faced an almost impossible task against Leeds
Luton were thrashed 5-2 at West Brom and have also been relegated.
Hull avoided the drop with a 1-1 at draw Portsmouth as Preston, Derby County and Stoke City also remain in the Championship.
Burnley celebrated their return to the Premier League in the company of a surprise guest at Turf Moor.
Jake Cooper headed the winner in Millwall's 1-0 victory against Burnley in November
As Millwall captain Jake Cooper's towering header sailed beyond Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and into the net on Sunday
3 November it provided one of the rarest of Championship sights this season
It has been a moment that has evaded every opponent in Burnley's 32 league matches since
Millwall travel to Turf Moor on the final day of the season knowing if they can repeat that feat they have a chance of sealing a spot in the play-offs - while Scott Parker's side will be looking to reach 100 points and hope it is enough to claim the title
"We go into the game with confidence but not underestimating the task in front of us," Millwall head coach Alex Neil told BBC Radio London
"Burnley is definitely the hardest place statistically to go in the league
they've conceded seven goals at home all season
"When we're up against it is when we thrive a bit more."
Alex Neil has led Millwall to within goal difference of the top six since taking over from Neil Harris in December
While Coventry City's rise from 18th to sixth in the league in the second half of the season has captured plenty of attention
Millwall's climb up the table has flown under the radar
Neil Harris was still in charge when the Lions secured that 1-0 victory over Burnley in November
Neil replaced Harris at the helm at the end of 2024
the Lions were on a run of one win in nine games and were likely to sell Romain Esse
Esse joined Crystal Palace shortly after and Millwall went on a recruitment drive that saw eight new faces arrive at The Den before the end of the window
Their progress from that point was solid if unspectacular under former Preston North End and Sunderland boss Neil and they entered April 13th in the table
But five wins in their six matches last month - including victories against Sheffield United and Middlesbrough - have pushed them up level with the Sky Blues on 66 points and only one point below fifth-placed Bristol City
"I think it would probably be one of the stories of the season [if Millwall make the play-offs] in terms of everything we've contended with as a club this year," Neil said
Scott Parker's Burnley side have already sealed promotion to the Premier League and are fighting for the Championship title
While Millwall's season's has had its ups and downs
Burnley have gone from strength to strength under Parker
sealing a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking
His side have been formidable at Turf Moor
conceding just seven times in the league as they look to complete the season unbeaten at home
They are on course to shatter the previous record for goals conceded in a Championship season and have already broken the clean sheet record with an incredible 30 shut-outs from 45 matches
"Burnley are clearly a formidable side and travelling to Turf Moor
most pundits will have the fixture marked for a home win," Nick Hart of the Achtung
"But being the underdog is always Millwall's ideal scenario."
For Millwall to make a final-day dash into the top six they will need at least one other result to go their way
Just 15 goals conceded - set to smash the current Championship record of 30 held jointly by Watford [2020-21] and Preston North End [2005-06]
Undefeated in a Championship record 32 matches
Head coach Scott Parker named Championship manager of the season
who are one of several sides battling to avoid relegation
who still have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs
says his focus will be entirely on his team's game
"Our task is really straightforward – we need to win
I don't want to complicate it any more than that," he added
Due to Coventry's superior goal difference
Millwall will likely need to better the result of one of the sides above them
but if we were to make it to Wembley then this would have to go down in Millwall history as one of our greatest [achievements] - not least because of the extensive injury list that has bedevilled us this season," Hart added
this will nevertheless be seen as a real season of development at the club
with the return to fitness of some of our January signings
the 2025-26 season looks very promising."

Burnley narrowly missed out on the Championship title despite coming from behind to beat Millwall at Turf Moor and ending the season with 100 points

Burnley looked to force the issue early into the second half through Hannibal Mejbri's curling strike
and efforts from Anthony and Marcus Edwards
But it felt as though a second goal was coming
and Anthony was Burnley's driving force
he completed the turnaround with a wonderful first touch and finish inside the area
Ivanovic failed to connect with a header as another gilt-edged chance went begging
before Cooper was denied by James Trafford as Millwall looked to salvage their dwindling Premier League dream
Scott Parker's home side survived incredible late pressure before getting their third goal
but the day ultimately ended in disappointment having come so close to glory
Burnley manager Scott Parker speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire:
16 goals conceded and you wouldn't win the league I'd have said 'no chance'
the players' reaction is one of needing to get back in it
created numerous chances; on another day it could have been a lot more
"The challenge goes up a level or two next year
We've got a rock solid foundation and we've proven that this season
reboot and we'll come into next year with a driving ambition to be as successful as we can."
Millwall manager Alex Neil speaking to BBC Radio London:
"Whenever you're playing the top teams in this division
You need to have a game plan; you have to understand you're not going to dominate the ball
"That wasn't our intention; we tried to get them to risk the ball so we could nick it and try to counter
"We had opportunities and didn't make the most of them
In a game of this magnitude when Burnley are chasing the league and we're chasing play-offs
you need to take the key moments and we only converted one
But I've been involved in those moments where if you take your chances you can take the points
Unfortunately today wasn't our day."

Lee Harpin is the Jewish News's political editor
The 18 year-old medical student had previously told Politics Home she was motivated to enter politics by the war in Gaza, where she believes a “genocide” is taking place as a result of Israel’s war on Hamas.
She said she also wants to encourage public spaces to prevent “free mixing” between Muslim men and women.
“There’s a big aspect of free mixing,” she said ahead of the election. “Muslim women aren’t really comfortable with being involved with Muslim men. I’m sure we can have segregated areas, segregated gyms, where Muslim women don’t have to sacrifice their health.”
Meanwhile Azhar Ali, suspended by Labour for antisemitism last year during the Rochdale byelection, has been elected as an independent candidate as county councillor for the Nelson East ward with 1976 votes.

Ahead of the 2025 election, the Conservatives were in control of the county council, with 48 seats.

Josh Cullen opened the scoring as Burnley put five goals past Queens Park Rangers
Premier League-bound Burnley hammered Queens Park Rangers to move top of the Championship table and ensure the title race will go down to the final day of the season
The visitors are already assured of automatic promotion and moved three points ahead of Leeds United
who face Bristol City at Elland Road on Monday
Goals from Josh Cullen and two from Zian Flemming put the Clarets in control at the end of the first-half
Jeremy Sarmiento scored twice off the bench to wrap up the win for Burnley and extend their unbeaten league run to 32 games
on the final day of the season and will finish on 100 points with victory at Turf Moor
Zian Flemming scored twice to give the Clarets a 3-0 lead at the break
Burnley have been lauded for their defensive performances this season but Scott Parker's team showed all their attacking prowess in a blistering first-half display in which they had 71% possession
seven shots on target and the ball in the net on six occasions
They cut through the hosts with a slick passing move on nine minutes
Cullen started and finished a fine team move
as captain Josh Brownhill's through ball nutmegged Jack Colback and found Cullen
before he rolled the ball with precision past Paul Nardi for his second goal of the season
Connor Roberts had the ball in the net again for the visitors with a smart finish but had just strayed offside
The second goal came shortly after through another scintillating team move from front to back
Luca Koleosho ran down the right before pulling the ball back to Roberts
whose goalbound shot was well blocked by Jimmy Dunne
who crashed in via a deflection off Dunne on the line as Burnley took a fully-deserved two-goal lead
The rampant Clarets made it three-nil before the half-hour mark as Flemming headed in his second from Brownhill's cross from the edge of the box
He headed in again shortly later but Jaidon Anthony had been unable to keep the ball in play before he cut it back for the Dutchman to nod in
Ronnie Edwards had to be at full stretch to prevent a fourth after Nardi gave the ball away
On a rare occasion the hosts did get forward
the Clarets defenders showed great desire to get back in numbers and snuff out the danger
Despite an improved performance after the half-time introductions of Ilias Chair and Michael Frey
QPR couldn't find a way through Clarets goalkeeper James Trafford

Sarmiento added a fourth moments after coming off the bench
as the Ecuadorian's shot deflected beyond Nardi
Trafford got down to well to save Colback's goalbound effort as Burnley fought to preserve their clean sheet
Nathan Redmond came off the bench for just his third appearance of the season to set up Sarmiento for his second - and Burnley's fifth - in added time
Burnley boss Scott Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"It was a classy performance - I thought we were excellent
We were pretty ruthless and I asked for that
full of excitement and joy and a bit of relief as well
"We needed to switch that mindset and become this ruthless animal that we've been for large parts this year - we were superb."
QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes [on speculation over his future]:
"I said before that as long as I'm wanted
"The way the fans have been supporting me
it makes me feel that I want to give them something back even more than the last two seasons
"In any case I am very calm about the job I have done and the fact that we have achieved what were difficult targets
"I'm an ambitious person in the sense that I always push myself
I have a contract and I want to keep improving
"I've said that the support from the fans that I've got this season
is something that I have never seen before and will stay with me forever
"That's why I'm very sad today
It doesn't define what this team has done this season and it's very sad to finish that way."

Burnley have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five league games against QPR
with the exception being a 2-1 home loss in April 2023
After winning seven of their eight home league games between December and February (L1)
QPR are now winless in their last five at Loftus Road (D3 L2)
Burnley are unbeaten in their last 31 league games (W20 D11)
It’s their longest run in their league history
while only Reading (33 in 2005-06) have had a longer run in a single second tier campaign
Burnley have conceded just 15 goals in the Championship this season
despite having an xG against figure of 36.3
Their record of conceding 21 goals fewer than their xGA suggests is at least 10 more than any other side this season

Burnley manager Scott Parker is thrown into the air by his players as they celebrate promotion back to the Premier League
Burnley clinched promotion back to the Premier League with a win that also sent Leeds United up and consigned Sheffield United to the Championship play-offs
The Clarets extended their unbeaten run to 31 games with Josh Brownhill scoring twice
a victory that clinched a top-two place along with the Whites
a fourth defeat in five games means they will finish third and have to fight their way through the post-season if they are to claim the third promotion spot
Scott Parker's side have built their campaign on a remarkable defensive effort and the win means they have secured promotion by breaking a 104-year-old record for their longest unbeaten run
Chris Wilder's side go into the play-offs searching for the form that saw them go four points clear at the top at the end of March
although they had the small consolation of seeing Tom Cannon score his first goal for the club following his January move from Leicester City
Josh Brownhill scored twice as Burnley clinched promotion back to the Premier League by setting a new club record unbeaten run
Needing the win to return to the top flight at the first time of asking
Burnley made no mistake in front of a raucous crowd to spark celebrations at Turf Moor and also in the Bremner Suite at Elland Road
where the Leeds players gathered in front of a television following their 6-0 rout of the Potters
The Blades needed three points to stand any real chance of taking the fight to the final two weekends of the season and with manager Wilder picking Kieffer Moore and Cannon in a two-pronged attack
Harrison Burrows fired over and Moore's shot found goalkeeper James Trafford solidly behind the ball
as he has been all season after keeping 29 clean sheets
The Clarets moved ahead thanks to Brownhill
who has been in sensational goalscoring form this season from midfield
in the right place to slam the ball into the roof of the net after Michael Cooper had done well to parry a fierce Josh Cullen drive into his path
The Blades found Trafford and the excellent Maxime Esteve in stubborn mood as they sought a way back into the game
but it was Gustavo Hamer who finally opened up the home defence
who conceded only their 15th goal in 44 league games
The Dutch midfielder slid a ball down the inside left channel and Cannon
who had drawn a blank in his previous 12 games since joining the South Yorkshire club from Leicester City
finished well with a rising left-footed drive that even Trafford could not stop
Leeds United promoted back to Premier League
The Blades were level for just five minutes before they conceded a penalty
as Anel Ahmedhodzic caught Hannibal Mejbri
leading to Brownhill to tuck home from the spot to register his 16th goal of the season
That goal puts him one behind Norwich City's Borja Sainz and three behind Leeds' Joel Piroe in the chase for the Championship's Golden Boot award
The Blades tried to fight their way back into it but they came up against a defence which has been close to impeccable this season
Ben Brereton Diaz had their only chance but fired one over the bar and was superbly closed down by winger Jaidon Anthony as he shaped to shoot
With their primary mission achieved Burnley can now relax
but if they concede no more than two goals in their final two games they will go down as the meanest defence in English football history
They have currently conceded 0.34 goals per game
better than the seasonal record of 0.39 held by the 1978-79 Liverpool team and the 2004-05 Chelsea outfit
Burnley head coach Scott Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"The ambition and the target at the start of the season was to get back to the Premier League and we've managed to do that so I'm hugely proud of the squad
pure commitment from every one of the players
their dedication and the sacrifice that they've made
that there is emotion from me because I see the commitment that everyone has brought
"We live in a world where you win or you lose and you get judged and at the end of the season you're either promoted or not and that's how quickly people will judge it
"I'm just delighted all that work
all that sacrifice has been worth it and people can see it
The facts are if you don't get promoted people can't see it."
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"For those two teams [Leeds and Burnley] to have the ability to hit 100 points shows what the division is like
and we're the third best team in the division
"The season went to the 44th game and we had a right go
we conceded two poor goals - we have to do better on the clearance and the penalty hands the initiative back to them
The home game [of the play-offs] at Bramall Lane will be off the scale
We've got to dust ourselves down and go again and we will do that
