never forget after the Shakers were crowned champions following a knock-out match against Burscough The 4-0 win will finally see the team promoted back up the football pyramid after six ‘desperate’ years trying to recover from a devastating loss in Radcliffe The club were expelled from the League in 2019 what was the darkest day in the club’s 140-year history But after a two year push for change by supporter-led groups the Shakers are now ‘back where they belong’ Almost 9,000 supporters crowded into the stadium at Gigg Lane to watch the match They needed just a point at home to Burscough in order to be crowned North West Counties League Premier Division champions – and came out with four killer goals and a ticket to the next League While many fans entered with little more than cautious optimism the atmosphere quickly turned jubilant after Aiden Walker scored a goal in the 19th minute and another followed from Tyler James four minutes later After two more goals in rapid succession during the second half the crowd knew exactly where the game was headed and promptly started a mosh pit at the barriers Storming the pitch after the final whistle was still ringing out across the stadium chanted and danced together in the players’ honours Speaking after their champions’ status was officially confirmed I was broken when we were expelled from the league Today has been full of emotion and it’s been bloody brilliant “I’ve not seen a crowd like this for a long time Worth all the heartache to come back and see this today fans united together to watch a team like this playing fantastic football was almost in tears as she exited the stadium “It’s really emotional,” she said “Everything we’ve been through these last few years It’s been a long time coming.” Fans shared they were off for drinks or chippy teas in Bury and Manchester to celebrate the victory “I’m sure Bury will be buzzing tonight They deserve a good night out,” Rick Ramsden adding that this was ‘just the beginning’ and he hoped to see a few more promotions in the coming years 8,719 fans crowded into the stalls at Bury today – a huge number for the ninth tier of English football Fans’ commitment have kept the club alive And it’s clear there’s already a next generation of Bury loyals are also well on the way It was three-year-old Charlie’s first football game with dad “It’s always been my dream to bring my own little boy to a Bury football match attended the final with four generations of her family and ‘honorarily’ her out-of-town boyfriend Hannah was ‘born into’ the Bury FC loyalty “Dad had me in Shakers’ stompers before I could walk,” she said And even Shakers’ veterans were out in force today ‘makes it a priority that he never misses a game’ even after all these years today’s game will be one the Bury FC fans won’t be forgetting in a hurry Want to tell us about something happening in our Borough Let us know by emailing newsdesk@rochvalleyradio.com Subscribe to our newsletter and that would enhance rail connections in Southport The proposal seeks to reconnect the Southport-Manchester and Liverpool-Ormskirk-Preston lines by reopening the north and south junctions at Burscough The project has previously been unsuccessfully proposed in 2021 Patrick Hurley MP believes it remains a strong candidate for future development once funding becomes available through Network Rail’s “Rail Network Enhancement Pipeline” The initiative has broad support from local MPs the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Reopening the Burscough Curves would cut travel times and improve access to key destinations Travel between Burscough and Liverpool could be reduced from 44 minutes to 35 minutes while Southport to Preston would drop from 58 minutes to just 40 minutes the project would improve connectivity to major sites the initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth by enhancing access to jobs The project aligns with sustainability goals as it would encourage a shift from car travel to rail reducing congestion and lowering emissions the electrification of the Southport-Ormskirk route combined with battery-powered trains for non-electrified sections makes this a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution Merseyrail has already committed to operating services on the Burscough Curves using battery-powered units A key obstacle to the project’s progress is the fragmented governance between Lancashire County Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority The current structure complicates the development of integrated transport solutions particularly regarding the Merseytravel link the MP for Southport has proposed empowering a Lancashire Mayor or Combined County Authority with statutory powers to facilitate decision-making and project delivery in line with the government’s devolution agenda Mr Hurley has secured meetings with key figures including Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram Lancashire County Council Leader Phillipa Williamson to discuss solutions to governance challenges and advance the project high-impact way to improve rail links and boost economic growth With strong support from local leaders and Merseyrail’s commitment this project fits perfectly with the government’s goals for regional growth and better public transport infrastructure,” said Patrick Hurley MP for Southport Hurley is urging Network Rail and the government to reconsider the proposal and work collaboratively to overcome the remaining barriers He is actively seeking further discussions with stakeholders to ensure the project receives the attention and funding it deserves Subscribe Now for Real-time Updates on the Latest Stories Created by Digital Media Guys is bringing a taste of nostalgia and community spirit to Please message Andrew Brown via Facebook here or email me at: mediaandrewbrownn@gmail.com A stunning second-half comeback saw FC Isle of Man fight from two goals down to win 3-2 against Burscough in the NWCFL Premier Division this evening (16 November). Burscough led at the break through a crisp 25-yard John McGrath strike before captain James McCulloch smashed in from close range from a corner. A long-range rocket from Ste Whitley and an Adam Adebiyi header levelled for the Ravens in the second period before Charlie Higgins netted a half-volley to snatch all three points. The result sees FC Isle of Man record a sixth consecutive league for only a third time in the club's relatively short history and remain in the promotion play-off spots. Tonight's contest saw two teams enter the fray in contrasting form with FC Isle of Man the league's in-form outfit with Burscough on a winless run of seven games in all competitions. A scrappy and tentative first half got a moment of magic it needed in the 36th minute as a John McGrath strike from 25 yards curled over FC IoM goalkeeper, Adam Killey and off the underside of the crossbar. Play initially continued but referee Kaan Hayes - following a discussion with the linesman - gave the goal with McGrath's strike adjudged to have crossed the line after hitting the woodwork. Looking comfortable against a lacklustre Manx side, Burscough doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time. A 'Linnets' corner from the left was spilled by Killey into a sea of bodies before McCulloch got a telling touch to smash into the net from close range. Needing to find an extra gear in the second period, 'The Ravens' laboured onwards only to have a route back into the contest through Ste Whitley in the 67th minute. The midfielder drove through the heart of the Burscough defence before unleashing an unstoppable 30-yard drive into the top corner. Just two minutes later, FC Isle of Man were then level as Whitley became provider for Adebiyi who - only brought on seconds before - rose in the box to meet a Whitley cross from the right and guide a header past Burscough stopper, Ben Barnes into the 'keeper's bottom left corner. With a new lease of life against a stunned Burscough defence, a whirlwind turnaround from the hosts was then completed on 74 minutes. Another substitute in Daniel Gerrard dinked a ball over the Burscough defence to find Higgins who strode to the edge of the box and lashed a half-volley into Barnes' bottom right corner. Three points for FC Isle of Man tonight along with results elsewhere means they remain fifth in the NWCFL Premier Division standings in the promotion play-off spaces, one point behind Lower Breck in fourth and five clear of FC St Helens just below in sixth. FC Isle of Man's next match will be away against Pilkington on Saturday, 23 November, kicking-off at 2pm. Man of the Match: Ste Whitley (FC Isle of Man) The result keeps the Ravens in the promotion hunt FC Isle of Man overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Burscough at the Bowl on Saturday night Manager Paul Jones didn’t mince words about his team’s ‘flat’ and ‘nowhere near good enough’ first-half performance as they struggled against a spirited Burscough side who were winless in seven games by the final whistle Jones was delighted to take all three points extending his side’s winning run to six games keeping their North West Counties Premier Division promotion aspirations firmly on track The match began with FC Isle of Man looking unusually sluggish as they searched for an opener A shout for handball in Burscough’s box went unheeded by the referee in the fourth minute setting a tone of frustration for the Ravens The turning point of the half came in the 36th minute in controversial fashion A long-range effort from Burscough’s John McGrath flew towards goal hitting the underside of the crossbar and bouncing down While the hosts were adamant it had not crossed the goal-line the linesman’s intervention saw the referee award the goal the Ravens suffered another setback as Alex Maitland was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury they doubled their lead as captain James McCulloch capitalised when goalkeeper Adam Killey failed to gather a corner and hammered in the away side’s second from close range A rejuvenated FC Isle of Man emerged for the second half The introduction of fresh legs in a triple substitution at the 55th minute brought Daniel Gerrard courtesy of a sensational strike from Ste Whitley who was making his 150th appearance for the club He embarked on a determined run from the middle of the park found a pocket of space 30 yards out and let loose an unstoppable curling effort into the top corner substitute Adebiyi produced a moment of sheer magic with his very first touch He soared highest to meet Whitley’s cross and thundered a header into the net levelling the score and sending the Conspiracy wild the Ravens completed their comeback in the 74th minute Gerrard clipped a perfectly weighted ball over the Burscough back line straight into the path of Charlie Higgins’s exquisitely timed run He met the ball at the edge of the box and connected with a sweet left-footed half-volley that soared into the far corner of the net The final minutes saw FC Isle of Man defend resolutely as Burscough attempted to respond Match sponsor Thomas Miller Investments awarded Man of The Match to captain Ste Whitley for his tireless efforts throughout. The result keeps FC Isle of Man fifth in the standings, the division’s final play-off spot. Their next test comes away against Pilkington this Saturday afternoon. housebuilder and partner Crompton Property Developments are looking to build out the third residential phase of the 180-acre Yew Tree Farm site Redrow is close to completing work on the 131-home The Grange which lies between the Burscough Industrial Estate Anwyl Homes is delivering the second phase of residential with the first residents now moved into what will be a 267-home development when complete The employment element of the wider site – the Barracuda Seafire and Dakota business parks – has been completed a link road through the site connecting Liverpool Road South to Tollgate Road The industrial area also includes a 32,000 sq ft leisure project operated by Fun Arena, consented in 2019 is seeking reserved matters approval for 169 homes at this 12.5-acre plot for which Crompton secured outline permission in 2016 for around 580 homes and around 150,000 sq ft of business space West Lancashire Council’s planning committee will consider the plans with a recommendation to approve As well as housing of between one and five bedrooms the plans include three blocks of two-storey apartments 59 homes are to be allocated as affordable 21 are slated as shared ownership and the remainder for affordable rent The professional team also includes Trevor Bridge Associates Approval is recommended at Thursday’s meeting for both the Redrow scheme and plans from Prospect GB and Baxi Partnership for 54 homes at the former Universal Bulk Handling site on Orrell Lane A decision on this proposal had been deferred at March’s meeting for further information on highways and pedestrian connections to be provided Well that’s a feast for the eyes isn’t it This forms only a section of the development large sections of hedgerows have been removed The only way they could have softened the blow with this is if the developers had to contribute to upgrading a facility in the local area Instead the area has not benefited in the slightest and has actually become more congested Buildings on a depot owned by the local authority will be cleared and replaced by 10 townhouses and an apartment block The redevelopment of Burscough FC’s former Victoria Park stadium into 52 affordable homes ground to a halt following the collapse of previous contractor Crossfield Living Torus Developments has now appointed HMS to pick up the Linaria Fields development where Crossfield left off the scheme will feature 21 homes available for affordable rent and 31 available for shared ownership will rebuild a number of homes that were part-complete in order to remove all materials that have weakened due to being exposed to the elements “HMS has been appointed for a number of reasons – not least their ability to proactively restart and deliver sites such as Burscough,” said Steve Alcock director of development and sales at Torus Developments they have successfully taken over four schemes from other contractors and handed over 258 homes to Torus highlighting HMS’ ability to deliver consistently.”  Crossfield Living went into administration earlier this year prompting Torus to search for a contractor to complete the project Concerns about the site were raised by West Lancashire Council and local MP Rosie Cooper earlier this year while Torus said it was “committed to completing the development and bringing the new homes forward in due course” against a backdrop of increased material and running costs and battling the ongoing effects of Covid-19 contractors going into administration and works halting on sites is becoming more and more common,” Alcock added we are working hard to minimise the impact this has on our developments but there are often a number of factors we cannot safeguard against Linaria Fields is the fifth stalled development HMS has picked up in recent years “We understand the local community’s frustration with the delays on site but now we have been appointed the team is ready to mobilise and deliver the development that has been promised,” said HMS construction director John Barrow “We will work hard to ensure that this will become an exemplary contribution to the local area and provide great homes I hope they reopen the back road to Tesco’s with extra houses plus the ones in Orrel Lane traffic on Orrell Lane and Mart Lane will be chaotic. The Tesco link will give another way to get to the A59 A landslip has closed the rail line between Wigan and Southport following a day of disruption caused by flooding falling on already sodden ground resulted in fast-moving floods earlier in the day The landslip - near Burscough Bridge - means it is impossible to operate trains between Wigan Wallgate and Southport and disruption on the route is expected for the rest of the day (Tuesday) the earlier flooding continues to have a knock-on effect to services in and around Wigan: Wigan to Kirkby - flooding at Up Holland has subsided and trains are now running though delays and cancellations are possible Wigan to Southport - a landslip has caused the complete closure of the line this will continue to affect services between Southport and Alderley Edge Chorley to Adlington - previous flooding at Yarrow viaduct has subsided and services are now operating Flood water started to rise in the area this morning and as levels rose above the tracks it became impossible to run services on the affected routes we were unable to run our usual services on several routes which had - and continues to have - a significant impact on our customers.  "This latest weather-related incident will affect our customers who have faced difficulties for much of the day and I'm sorry for any further disruption they experience this evening “We are working closely with colleagues from Network Rail to restore rail services as soon as possible I am again calling on our customers to please be patient Where we can't run trains we will operate buses to keep people on the move but these will add extra time to usual journeys.” Delay Repay compensation is Onclusive PR Manager™ MCK Associates designed the project for McCarthy Stone West Lancashire Council has approved the senior living developer’s plans for 48 apartments and 19 bungalows off Chancel Way The decision was made during the planning committee meeting last Thursday. The positive outcome follows a similar win for the developer at Manchester City Council’s planning meeting that same day Situated on nearly 1.5 acres off Chancel Way the Burscough resi project breaks down to 19 two-bed bungalows Most of the apartments in the three-storey block would have access to either a private balcony or another form of external amenity space There will also be a communal garden for residents of both the apartments and bungalows to enjoy There would be 30 parking spaces provided for those living in the apartments including three accessible spaces and two with EV charging points All of the bungalows will have their own parking space divisional managing director at McCarthy Stone said: “Our exciting scheme will help to address a demand for retirement accommodation in the area whilst freeing up the wider housing market for families and first-time buyers further down the chain “We’ve routinely found that residents moving into a McCarthy Stone residence experience increased independence and social interaction results in a significant improvement to health and wellbeing.” The Planning Bureau was the planning consultant for the scheme The planning application reference number for the project with West Lancashire Council is 2022/0642/FUL This will only benefit those who can afford it the trick is to get a job and make a contribution to society It will be interesting to see what price the bungalows will be selling for I heard that there were going to be properties to rent under the affordable housing scheme which I would be interested in knowing more details Do you think pensioners don’t drive West Lancashire Council has granted Crompton Property Developments outline planning permission for the construction of 580 homes on land at Yew Tree Farm which was previously designated greenfield land The proposals were subject to an extensive consultation process with local residents and key stakeholders It is anticipated that the first reserved matters application will be submitted later this year said: “We welcome the approval of this strategic development site following an intensive period of consultation and negotiation The proposals will play an important part of the planned housing and economic development for the plan period within West Lancashire.” Consultation with the Burscough people your having a laugh also keep hearing this was a done deal don’t see what important role this is going to play apart from more congestions to the already congested roads and over subscribed public services Look at Heathfields Estate ,promises of schools and services to be built on the spare land Burscough residents have had no say at all in this matter l wasn’t asked and l bet alot more residents weren’t either the village won’t be able to cope with the mass amounts of people coming to live here also the drainage system and road network eg A59 Seems to me a lot of underhanded activity here Please do not portray this whole exercise as a consultation any Burscough residents views were not taken into account if anything we have been completely ignored This decision is a disgrace and should be investigated as this will cause a catastrophe to Burscough and put many lives at risk due to over populated road systems!! Most Burscough residents opposed this….the A59 can barely cope with the traffic now let alone with over 500 new homes The report should have also said that the land was greenbelt It was only released from greenbelt after the local council decided that it electorally convenient for them to release the land attached to two villages of Burscough population 10,000 rather than land on the edge of Ormskirk and Aughton population 40,000 with an acute shortage of low cost housing Residents on lordsgate lane have just realised it comes right up to the back of there gardens they never knew it was part of yew tree farm
