Sikhs living in Surrey had to travel long distances to mark religious and family occasions such as weddings and funerals
Many commuted by train to Southampton or drove into London

Deepak Singh Udassi, one of the fundraisers behind the project, described the opening of a local place of worship as meaning “everything” to the community. Yusuf acknowledged that the party may not be able to stop asylum seekers from being placed in hotels where the Home Office already has contracts with accommodation providers
REFORM UK chair Zia Yusuf has said the party will use “every instrument of power” to resist housing people seeking asylum in council areas where it has gained control
Speaking on BBC One’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg
Yusuf said the party is exploring legal avenues including judicial reviews
and planning laws to prevent the use of accommodation for asylum seekers in these areas
“A lot of these hotels – there has been litigation around this already – a lot of these hotels
when you suddenly turn them into something else
that falls foul of any number of regulations
and that’s what our teams of lawyers are exploring at the moment,” he said
His comments followed remarks by Reform leader Nigel Farage
who said the party would “resist” housing asylum seekers in the 10 council areas where it made gains in Thursday’s local elections
Reform UK has also said it wants to cut spending by reducing roles linked to diversity
Yusuf said taskforces would be introduced to audit council spending and examine job roles
they do not currently have somebody with the job title ‘DEI officer’
[but] they do spend considerable money on DEI initiatives,” he said
Yusuf added that the party was “realistic” about the limited powers of local councils compared to Westminster
stating: “That’s why this is part of a journey to making Nigel the prime minister with a Reform majority.”
Reform’s newly elected Greater Lincolnshire mayor and former Conservative MP
told LBC she supported housing immigrants in tents instead of hotels
“This is taxpayers’ money and it should actually be tents
Jenkyns also called for staff cuts at Lincolnshire county council
[we] ought to look at maybe cutting the workforce by up to 10%
She added that discussions were ongoing as a Reform county council leader had not yet been elected
Jenkyns said she was “up for a fight” with the unions
after the head of Unison encouraged staff in Reform-run councils to join for protection

THE UK on Monday began four days of events to mark 80 years since the end of World War II
and a Buckingham Palace balcony appearance by the royal family
The events are expected to be the final major commemoration attended by those who served in the Second World War
“This will be the last major commemoration for which anyone will still be alive who actually served in the Second World War,” monarchy specialist Robert Hazell of University College London told AFP
The commemorations started in London with a flypast and military parade
watched by the royal family and prime minister Keir Starmer

WITH a thumping success in local elections
the hard-right Reform UK party has loosened Britain's two-party stranglehold and is already eyeing Downing Street
which formed from the remnants of its firebrand leader Nigel Farage's Brexit party
swept over 670 local council seats as well as its first two mayoral posts
In its biggest win of Thursday's (1) poll, the anti-immigration party also narrowly took a parliamentary seat in a by-election in Runcorn
from prime minister Keir Starmer's centre-left Labour
"We can and we will win the next general election" which is expected in around four years
Farage declared to newly elected Reform councillors in Staffordshire in the west Midlands
Although the polls took place for only a fraction of the country's local seats
the results confirm Reform UK's growing popularity
after its breakthrough in last year's general election in which it picked up five seats
"This is the best performance by a populist radical right party we've ever seen in this country," said Tim Bale
politics professor at London's Queen Mary University
Reform has tapped into discontent over high costs and immigration numbers
as well as disillusionment with Britain's two main parties
which have dominated political life for decades
and insists he wants "to make Britain great again"
His party has also vowed to remove DEI -- diversity
inclusion and equality -- hiring practices from councils in which it has been elected
Farage's approach appears to be working
with Reform regularly leading in national voting intention polls
Zia Yusuf addresses Reform UK supporters and the media as the party celebrates historic local election victories on May 02
said he finds Farage "inspiring"
After 30 years of backing the Conservatives
Sherliker voted for Reform this by-election because he was "very worried" about immigration levels
"We're all hopeful for some change," he said
Reform was still struggling to control its rank and file
having to pull support from several general election candidates who made racist remarks
The party has since boosted its presence on the ground and transformed itself into an electoral machine
"They're very clever at the way that they've pushed their agenda on to quite a underprivileged white town" like Runcorn
which claims it has more than 225,000 members
sent the most number of candidates out to local ballots
political science researcher at the University of Essex
Farage made frequent visits to rural areas
small towns and post-industrial centres in decline
"We're fed up with the way we're being treated
The country's going downhill," rued Gillian Brady in Runcorn
citing high taxes and immigration as well as difficulties accessing the heaving NHS public healthcare system
Reform has also appealed to those who believe that British identity is threatened
a grooming scandal which first emerged over a decade ago
involving the sexual abuse of primarily white British girls by men of mostly south Asian origin
political science professor at King's College London
Many now consider it "their only option"
the standard bearer for the traditional right for 200 years and in power for much of that time
several of the party's elected representatives have jumped ship for Reform in recent months
Farage has rejected offers of a future alliance with the Conservatives
declaring that Reform "sank" them
"Now the hard work begins," stressed Martin Murray
a freshly elected Reform councillor in Staffordshire
Murray called on his fellow councillors to "show our competence
because because that will show the whole country we are serious"
The question is whether Farage -- who has a track record of falling out with colleagues -- has it in him to direct his new army of local representatives
He has already ousted one of the five MPs elected last year after disagreements
While Reform may have shattered one "glass ceiling" by breaking down the two-party deadlock
"There are far more people who don't like Nigel Farage than there are people who like him."

Conservative leader Sam Smith retained his Newark East seat
Labour group leader Kate Foale lost her seat to Teresa Cullen of the Broxtowe Alliance

“Council tax is the biggest bill that residents pay
they should decide if they want to keep it as it is or if they want to change it,” he said
Reform UK has now taken control of seven councils and gained more than 650 seats
while the Conservatives have lost over 650 and Labour more than 180

Hajj and Umrah pilgrims are required to show proof of a valid MenACWY vaccination when arriving in Saudi Arabia
BRITAIN’s health security agency has urged pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah to get vaccinated against meningococcal disease
following a small number of recent cases in the country linked to travel
five people in England and Wales developed MenW

the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has said
the disease can be life-threatening and may cause severe complications such as brain damage
Hajj and Umrah pilgrims are required to show proof of a valid MenACWY vaccination when arriving in Saudi Arabia
The certificate must be issued between 10 days and three to five years before arrival
Health officials also advised that all travellers consider getting the jab due to the ongoing MenW outbreak
Travellers are advised to be alert for symptoms while abroad and for two weeks after returning to the UK
Anyone feeling unwell should seek immediate medical help and mention their travel history

It protects not just the traveller but those around them.”
UKHSA is advising travellers to be aware of the risk of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)
pilgrims should take precautions such as avoiding contact with camels
especially after visiting farms or markets

Camberley town centre received £1,480,300 in September 2024 from HM Government through the Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF2)
This funding will support a new residential development on the London Road site
located next to the A30 in the heart of Camberley
The council will also be making a substantial financial contribution to ensure the preparation works go ahead and a step change in the town is delivered.
The Executive has been asked to approve the commencement of works
including asbestos removal and safely demolish derelict buildings on the site - clearing the way for the site’s future development
Portfolio Holder Property & Economic Development
“The London Road Development site has reached a significant milestone with the commencement of these works
The active development of the site enables the next step of securing a housing developer.
The works are due to start this summer and will complete in 12 months
The area will be surrounded by hoarding whilst the works take place to protect the site and ensure the public’s safety
We will continue to provide updates as the work progress.”
The marketing for the site will start later this year to secure a development partner to deliver further regeneration and new homes to Camberley.”

Camberley Town (0) 1 Guildford City (1) 1
this was an archetypal match of two halves
Guildford very much dominated the first half
whilst after the break Camberley were the stronger side creating a number of very good chances
He has been outstanding in Guildford’s defence throughout the season
Jake Brown and Ben Drake were missing from the line-up to serve a suspension and for work reasons respectively
This was also to be Nik Krokhin’s last appearance for the club after signing for Isthmian Premier club Hendon
Guildford’s passing game saw the ball moved out to the flanks for Deven Reid-Solanki and Manny Acheampong
Camberley’s defence remained disciplined and despite the pressure clear chances on goal were rare
An early exception came on seven minutes when following a long throw Qasim Khan shot home from close range for his first goal for the club
Shortly after City won a free kick just outside the box and Reece Robin’s effort forced Camberley keeper Ben Grummitt to save low at his left-hand post
In a rare forward foray Camberley saw a header go wide of the post
Both Reid-Solanki and Reece Robins shot wide of the target
and there was a sense at the interval that Guildford might rue not scoring the second goal that their play in the first half had deserved
A ball was played across the box and Stan Jones
and Monty Conway saved a shot from an angle with his legs
Around the hour mark Camberley missed two good chances
again received the ball in a dangerous position but his hooked attempt went wide
Shortly after a missed ball in defence was lobbed wide
With twenty minutes remaining Conway again saved well to keep City in the game
Guildford were limited to rare sorties forward
but they were unable to significantly trouble Grummitt in the home goal
City’s keeper Monty Conway saves with Nick Krokhin minding his back
Bad luck with Camberley’s “offside” goal was offset by Guildford’s good fortune when a defender handled the ball in the box whilst jumping to head the ball
There were vociferous opposition calls for a penalty
but the referee instead gave a free kick to Guildford for a push in the defender’s back

Camberley town centre has had an injection of colour with striking new art displays. The pieces entitled ‘Surrey Heath Alive!’ have been created collaboratively with 'Mural Artists'
'Imageskool' and local senior school children
and depict different elements of Camberley and Surrey Heath – including our landmarks and wildlife.
Kings International College and Carwarden House School for their brilliant creative ideas and contributions to the artwork
The children from Year groups 7-9 (age 11-14) researched local landmarks and wildlife in the borough and produced a number of sketches and drawings which feature in the art pieces at workshops held back in the autumn 2024.
Councillor Sarbie Kang was joined with the schools involved and Surrey Heath Borough Council councillors and officers at a special unveiling event on Saturday 22 March 2025.
The Mayor of Surrey Heath Councillor Sarbie Kang said;

Following consultation with residents and key stakeholders
Surrey Heath Borough Council has developed a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at making Camberley a hub for independent shopping
The full strategic plan and summary document can be accessed on our our Camberley Vision webpage
“The council is committed to enhancing Camberley town centre; however
we recognise that this cannot be achieved in isolation
We will work with our partners and stakeholders to ensure that we build on progress already made.
Whilst we understand there are significant challenges ahead
it is crucial that we continue to improve the town centre
and maintain sound financial management.”
This plan aims to foster an entrepreneurial spirit while enhancing public spaces
digital connectivity and aligns with the Council’s priorities of:
Recent developments include a programme of improvements to The Square shopping centre including roof repairs and installing new solar photovoltaic panels
better transport links and investments in cultural infrastructure and digital technology
All designed to ensure Camberley continues to be a highly desirable place to live
The council is keen to ensure that this momentum continues and have allocated a number of key development sites within the emerging Local Plan
These sites provide an opportunity for an enhanced mix of uses
new open space and green infrastructure and improved connectivity. Ensuring a strong sense of community and an excellent quality of life for its residents and visitors.

The council Executive is being recommended to approve changes to the CCTV provision in Camberley
which will offer an improved service while making cost savings.
a switch to a new CCTV monitoring provider is being proposed
combined with updated camera locations within the town centre and Old Dean.
The CCTV control room monitoring arrangements are currently organised through Woking Borough Council
The report recommends switching the service to Runnymede Borough Council
achieving a cost saving while offering a service which better matches the current requirements of the town centre partners who use the CCTV
This includes Surrey Heath Borough Council
Surrey Police and town centre businesses.
Public realm CCTV is important for a number of reasons
including personal safety reassurance to residents and visitors
and detecting and investigating crime.
The current CCTV camera provision in Camberley town centre developed in stages over several decades
A review has shown that advances in technology mean that effective CCTV coverage of Camberley town centre could now be achieved using half the existing number of cameras.
Compliance surrounding CCTV has altered considerably over recent years
Updated camera locations and improved functionality will continue to ensure that cameras are located correctly covering all key vantage points whilst continuing to meet data protection requirements.
Retaining and improving CCTV in the town centre and Old Dean supports the council’s strategy objective of keeping the borough safe & secure.
As part of the contract offered by Runnymede there is also the potential for the authority to take over the handling of the council’s out of hours calls
which are currently managed through a third-party contract
Runnymede already delivers this service to multiple boroughs across the county and in North Hampshire
The inclusion of this service into a CCTV contract presents a further financial and operational benefit to Surrey Heath.

A very significant milestone for London Scottish was achieved on Sunday when the first ever London Scottish Lions Colts team took the field to play against Camberley RFC Colts. It was also the first Colts team to play under a London Scottish emblem since before Covid.
It was a typically cold January winters afternoon at Watchetts Recreational Ground in Camberley for the first outing of the season for the London Scottish Lions Colts against Camberley RFC Colts. The game was well contested and both teams were evenly matched. This was reflected in the try count with each teams scoring three tries. However, Camberley were able to convert all three and eventually won the game 21-15.
A special mention goes out to all the parents that helped organise lifts for players to the game and their vocal support from the sideline. And finally, this club milestone would not have been possible without the fantastic support from the Velocity Trade team and their sponsorship.
Next Sunday is our first Home vs. Rosslyn Park 2pm KO at Kings House Sports Ground.

A Surrey man has been jailed after being convicted of Coercive and Controlling Behaviour
following prolonged abuse that left the victim worried for her life
"When I first reported what Kingsley had done to me
I never thought I’d be strong enough to go against him in court
I went back and forth on the idea for months
But overtime the hold that an abuser has on you starts to wear off
You start to see life without the tinted glasses they made you see it through
He once had me in a complete bubble with him
I believed this was a person I would be with forever
but I now know these are the effects of a narcissistic abuser
I think there was also a part of me that was scared of how I would live without him
There's no denying I would have done just about anything for him
I had lost everyone close to me as a result of him completely isolating me by controlling who I was allowed to interact with
I felt like I was his property and anything he said had to be obeyed
I was gaslit into thinking this was the way to be treated by someone who says they love you
The abuse was so gradual that I didn't even realise the gravity of it until it got to the point I thought my life could be at risk
Kingsley was a boxer and he would tell me the things he had done to people - I was so scared and knew that I'd have no chance against him."
was convicted of Coercive and Controlling Behaviour
sending malicious messages and criminal damage and was sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment at Chichester Crown Court on 11 April
He was also given a 15-year restraining order against her and her family
the survivor of Kingsley Stembridge's abuse said: "There are so many victims that stay quiet about domestic abuse as it’s such a difficult topic
You are made to feel like you deserve the things that are being done to you
"I won't deny that the process was challenging
I had never been to court before and hadn't seen Kingsley since the last time he abused me and I had to run away
I had to relive everything which was really hard
but when I saw the evidence of what he had done to me
I thought the young girl (me) in those photos and videos didn't deserve what was being done to her
With support from friends and family it gave me the fight I needed to keep going
I feel proud to have protected future victims from this one individual
I'm grateful justice was served and I hope that I have set an example to other people in a similar position to what I was in."
said: "This has been a long and complex investigation
and I commend the bravery and resilience of the survivor in this case
There is no doubt that it was difficult for her to speak with Police about the abuse she had been enduring but her determination resulted in the defendant finally having to face accountability for what he had done
we know that there are many others out there who are facing abuse and violence
and I hope that this account shows that you will always be taken seriously
"We urge anyone who may be the victim of domestic abuse to come forward
You will be believed and you will be supported

They will face Camberley Town U18s away on Thursday
after the Surrey side beat Brislington U18s in a Third Qualifying Round match
Camberley won 2-1 on the night thanks to a stoppage time winner
The match will take place at Camberley Town Football Club
The tie must be decided on the night with extra time and penalties in the event of a draw
Rovers saw off Reading City U18s 3-0 in the Third Round Qualifying Round earlier this month with goals from Kemall Wilson
Isaac Hughes and Thomas Conteh at The New Lawn
The House of Fraser building in the heart of Camberley will be left vacant and mothballed after Surrey Heath Borough Council said its redevelopment would be too expensive
was bought by the council in 2016 with £17.1 million of borrowed money – which the authority hoped would return a yield of 6.8 per cent and help regenerate the town centre
it will stand empty with the council unable to afford refurbishment work
Surrey Heath Borough Council says it will cover its maintenance costs as it looks to offload the site with Homes England
the government’s housing and regeneration agency
or other brownfield developers mentioned as possible options
The asbestos lining the leaking 50-year-old roof of the former department store in Camberley needs £3.5 million to be fixed
“We are committed to working with partners like Homes England and other brownfield developers to secure funding for the site and support the building’s future development.”
At the time of the House of Fraser purchase
the building had been fully occupied with all but NatWest having since chosen to vacate the building
The council says redevelopment “at this time would involve significant cost”
The council had been under pressure to make a quick decision over whether to pursue the House of Fraser acquisition as a second offer had been received from another prospective purchaser
According to previously undisclosed documents released by the council
it had been reported that there had been significant positive news around the future of the House of Fraser Group in 2016 following its sale to Sanpower
and later announcements that new stores would be opened and the existing network upgraded
The site as land that has been previously been developed is classed as brownfield and a priority for redevelopment
It accounts for 8.7 per cent of land in England and in 2021/22
more than half of all new homes were built on brownfield land
Labour group leader Jonathan Quin (St Michaels) described the decision to shutter the site as “very disappointing”
He said the administration may not have been responsible for the original decision to acquire the site
but they are now responsible for sorting out the future of the House of Fraser building
Cllr Quin said: “They should have developed a plan by now
“Whilst the Conservatives have rightly been punished for poor decision-making and governance
the Liberal Democrats now run Surrey Heath Borough Council
“They must present some concrete proposals for the good of Surrey Heath rather than coming up with excuses for inaction.”
He added that the council had recently been awarded £1,480,300 through the Brownfield Land Release Fund to support new housing development on the London Road site and that
in his view the council “seems to be to do nothing to the House of Fraser building” unless it gets further assistance
said: “It is unfortunate that such a landmark building continues to be out of use
and I recognise the challenges the council faces in this situation
“We sincerely hope that the council will be able to address the asbestos issue promptly
enabling the search for a new tenant to proceed as soon as possible
“This iconic building holds great potential for redevelopment
and it is crucial that we take the necessary steps to ensure its future use and benefit to the community.”

I have been lucky enough to attend the previous two pantomimes at Camberley Theatre and I can honestly say that with Snow White they are getting better each year.
Again Camberley has employed a young and talented cast. Suzi Budd directs and appears as the lively and very funny Henrietta Henchman, while Thomas Andrew Smith choreographs and plays the evil Queen Camilla Blackbush to perfection.
The playful script has local jokes about the more expensive Woking panto, and the posh Prince Fraser of Farnham (Owen Murphy) brings out a guitar and sings in one scene.
James Hastings, who plays Snow White’s ‘bestest friend in the whole world’ Keith, has a superb singing voice which contrasted somewhat with his easy manner and was an impressive surprise.
The dance routines and ensemble singing were spot on. Two young audience members, Archie and Teddy, were invited up on stage as ‘backing singers’. They threatened to steal the show with their dancing and adorable questions.
There are technical delights and surprises aplenty, plus a fantastic plot twist. It’s a gloriously magical pantomime, and it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
Snow White is at the Camberley Theatre until December.31. To book visit www.camberleytheatre.co.uk

Delivering the news from Henley on Thames and South Oxfordshire for over 100 years
FIFTH place Division 4 East Berks Alliance side AFC Henley Hotspurs U17s went down to a 4-3 defeat at home to second-placed Camberley Town Youth Rascals U17s at a cold Jubilee Park last Saturday
Going into the match Henley were without their regular goalkeeper so midfielder Jonty Priestly stepped in between the sticks
with Camberley trying to break quickly at every opportunity while both teams created a few half-chances
Henley took the lead on 20 minutes when Archie Upsher picked up the ball in midfield
following a cross-field pass by Bailey Greathead
and rifled a shot into the top right corner
Camberley equalised 10 minutes later on the counter-attack
when a long accurate ball was played over the home defence for their striker to score
a ball into a congested Henley box saw a Camberley player score to give his side a 2-1 half-time lead
The second half started end-to-end with both sides creating chances before Camberley extened their lead after 10 minutes
Henley slowly got back into the game and started to dominate as Archie Upsher shaved the top of the crossbar while a corner ran right across the box but no home player was there to score
The hosts continued to dominate and from a corner the ball came back to Henry George who fired home through a crowd of players to reduce the arrears to 3-2 with 20 minutes of play remaining
Henley attacked again as Bailey Greathead ran down the right flank
put a cross in and a defender turned into his own goal to level the scores with 15 minutes remaining
The match again became end to end with both sides going for a winner but with five minutes remaining a Camberley attack saw the visitors score the decisive goal
Henley piled on the pressure as they seeked an equaliser but the visitors counter-attacked once more but were denied by Priestly who rushed off his line to produce a fine save

A double from Kingsley Anokye and a stunning first goal for the club from Zak Jakubowski helped the Knappers to a crucial three points in the Combined Counties Premier Division South.
Knaphill started brightly, controlling the early possession and setting the tempo, but it was Camberley who created the game's first real chance.
Former Knapper Denny Roberts drove forward and unleashed a low strike across the goal in the 14th minute, forcing Sam Gray into a superb save to tip the ball around the post.
The Knappers broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a moment of brilliance.
Anokye carried the ball outside the box and was tackled as he claimed a foul, but the referee waved play on.
Camberley cleared the ball with a header, but it fell to Jakubowski on the edge of the box on the right-hand side. Jakubowski controlled the ball on his chest before unleashing a stunning volley that flew into the right-hand side of the goal.
Knaphill extended their lead deep into first-half stoppage time with a devastating counter-attack.
George Sellick won the ball on the edge of his own box and drove forward, carrying it past the halfway line before releasing Ben Mitchell down the left.
Mitchell advanced and delivered a perfectly-weighted pass to Anokye on the edge of the box.
Anokye turned his marker brilliantly and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top right-hand corner, leaving Camberley keeper Dom West with no chance and making it 2-0.
Camberley came out strongly after the break and found a lifeline in the 60th minute.
Archie Harris brought down a Camberley attacker just outside the penalty area and was booked for the challenge.
The resulting free kick, taken by Luis Hamblin, deflected off Sellick’s head and completely wrong-footed Gray to send the ball into the right-hand side of the goal to make it 2-1.
Knaphill responded perfectly in the 66th minute.
The Camberley defence didn’t deal with Sellick's cross from the left, as they failed to head it away from the area.
The ball looped high and hung in the air before Anokye rose highest to head it back across goal and into the net, restoring Knaphill’s two-goal cushion and making it 3-1.
Moments after the goal, David Orisatoki replaced Jakubowski as Knaphill adjusted to shore up their midfield.
Knaphill had several excellent chances to extend their lead late on.
In the 73rd minute, a corner found Ross Murdoch, whose powerful header was superbly saved by West.
Five minutes later another excellent delivery from Matt Copland found Anokye.
His header bounced into the ground, but West pulled off another stunning save to tip the ball around the post.
In the 89th minute, superb link-up play between Copland and Anokye found Murdoch in the area.
Murdoch turned well and got his shot away, but it went agonisingly wide of the post, denying Knaphill a fourth goal to seal the game.
In injury time, another Copland corner found the head of Harris, who rose highest to meet it.
His powerful header looked destined for the back of the net, but a Camberley defender was on hand to clear the ball off the line, keeping the final score at 3-1.

A flag raising ceremony took place on Wednesday 25 September 2024 outside Surrey Heath House in recognition of our Armed Forces.
The flag raising followed a meeting with our military and community partners to review the Council's Armed Forces Covenant Action plan
which details how we support our Armed Forces community in the Borough.
Surrey Heath Borough Council has now also launched a new Armed Forces webpage
offering details of support for regular and reservist personnel
We offer discounted membership at Places Leisure for Armed Forces members and veterans
while our staff receive training to better support this community
Key services like Housing and Benefits also prioritise those in need.
We're also aiming to upgrade from Bronze to Silver in the Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme by expanding our employment support and continuing to be a 'Forces Friendly' employer.
Councillor Sarbie Kang said: “Surrey Heath is extremely proud of our connections with the Armed Forces which go back over many years.
It is a very great honour to be here with you all today to recognise the important dates of Armed Forces Day and the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and give our thanks to the contribution made by our service personnel to our organisation
Major Sim Chochangi from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) also spoke at the flag raising event expressing the importance of the partnership of the RMAS and the Council as the gateway to the RMAS sits within the borough in Camberley and also the ten-year anniversary of the RMAS being granted freedom of the borough.
Surrey County Council Civilian-Military Armed Forces Covenant Lead and Liaison Adviser said, “Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Armed Forces Covenant Action Plan should be considered as an exemplar and I would recommend that all Local Authorities should have a look at it with a view to adopting many of their themes
It goes much further than the requirements under the Armed Forces Act 2021 and the reason for that is that the Council really cares for its Armed Forces Community and want to ensure that they are fully integrated into the local community as equal partners.”
The Mayor of Surrey Heath hosted the ceremony with guests including; Elaine Cosgrave
Jacky Oakley and representatives from the Royal British Legion Camberley
Rod Henkun Bomber Command Association Standard Bearer
staff from the Frimley & Camberley Cadet Corps
