Web Design by Box UK Practical insights from and foracademics and university staff Everything you need for each stepof your study abroad journey Planned industrial action at Cardiff University has been called off after its management committed to not making any compulsory redundancies this year The Cardiff branch of the University and College Union (UCU) said its members have voted to accept the university management’s offer to issue no compulsory redundancies in 2025 in return for calling off planned strikes and a marking and assessment boycott and agreeing to not instigate further industrial action under their current mandate A Cardiff UCU spokesperson called the announcement a “big victory”, but cautioned: “The problems faced by staff at Cardiff University are far from over.” They said: “Our members are still deeply unhappy with the restructuring process we’ve also decided to seek to renew our industrial action mandate when the current one expires Trust and confidence in the university executive board has been destroyed But the spokesperson added: “They fully met our key demand under the current mandate for action and we welcome that…We truly welcome the new partnership-led approach the university has committed to and we look forward to working much more closely together than we’ve been able to so far.” A Cardiff University spokesperson said that the news that strikes were being called off was a “welcome relief” “We are very pleased that we have been able to arrive at this point and we reconfirm our desire to work in partnership for the benefit of students We hope now to move forward with more positive and constructive talks with our campus trade unions on how we can work together to address our immediate financial challenges and secure the university’s long-term future,” the spokesperson said UCU has stressed that more than 1,000 jobs still remain at risk as members that were at risk of compulsory redundancy have not been taken out of scope of its voluntary severance scheme The union noted that a number of schools – including music and modern foreign languages – are still set for closure “The branch has committed to continue to make the case for preserving these disciplines at the university” juliette.rowsell@timeshighereducation.com Already registered or a current subscriber University and College Union disputes institution’s claim to have significantly reduced job cuts figure Vice-chancellor reveals changes to restructuring plan after criticism including pausing the closure of courses seen as vital for servicing NHS Welsh university faces mounting criticism over job cuts and course closures Academics warn of ‘culture of fear’ at pre-eminent Welsh institution amid plans to axe courses and hundreds of jobs Proposed 60-hour limit another ‘cynical ploy’ to use students to balance the books Merger model common in other parts of education sector increasingly appealing to universities keen to retain some autonomy Members of national executive committee claim they were ‘prohibited’ from discussion of dispute with staff in Unite union Subscribe today to receive unlimited news and analyses commentary from the sharpest minds in international academia our influential university rankings analysis and the latest insights from our World Summit series There were 1,242 Bluebirds in the away end with Ramsey beginning by praising their support “They’ve been unbelievable and I think they’ve really bought into the boys over the last few weeks and the performances that they’ve produced.  It’s a lot of effort for them to come up here today and support us We appreciate every single one of them doing that and making that journey.  "Thank you again to them and they’re going to be a huge part of us bouncing back as a Club." City fought back in the contest with two goals from Yousef Salech who ends the campaign with nine goals for the Bluebirds “I was really happy with the way we started the game," Aaron continued caused them a few problems and had chances but then there’s the sending off and these things happen it’s about trying to readjust and sort things out pressed their 10s better and had a threat on the counter-attack as well For them to take on all the information that we wanted them to it speaks volumes about how far we’ve come in a few weeks.  "When you’re 3-1 down and you have seven players in their box all sprinting back to clear danger or make an interception that’s the culture and the habits you need if you’re going to be a serious team and bounce back.  “The message at half-time was that we go on and try and win this half They’re a good team and they have some really good players "For us to produce a performance like that with ten men U21 defender Ronan Kpakio earned his first league start for City while there were also league debuts for Dylan Lawlor and Tanatswa Nyakuhwa Aaron concluded: “The Academy has so many talented players and it’s about creating that pathway again I thought every one of them were superb.  "Some of them looked like they had been there doing it for ages so it’s a very proud day for them and it’s just a glimpse of the players we have in store and available next season.” Watch more from Aaron on Cardiff City TV. pic.twitter.com/9xE6kW8P6A It’s been an Adran Premier season full of twists and turns but it ended with Cardiff City winning the title for a third straight season plenty of other clubs have made tremendous strides here is our Adran Premier Team of the Season Goalkeeper – Molly Arnesen (Barry Town United) There have been so many good goalkeepers in the league this season it feels like Arnesen pulls of a wonder save every week for the Linnets she shares the Golden Glove with a number of other keepers but her pure shot stopping ability gives her the nod in this team Honourable Mention – Ceryn Chamberlain (Cardiff City) She may never get the credit she deserves because of how much City win they would not be winning title after title Centre-Back – Shannon Evans (Cardiff City) it’s still a little mad to think Evans played as a striker for so long The way she covers ground and the way she can make last-ditch tackles is simply effortless Evans has to be considered for signing of the season should really be nominated for Player of the Season Honourable Mention – Rebecca Mathias (Aberystwyth Town) It’s not been an easy season for those at Aberystwyth but Mathias perfectly encapsulates the never say die attitude at the club She has been so consistent and helped drag her team away from safety in the second part of the campaign Centre-Back – Brooke Llewellyn (Briton Ferry) Her recovery runs and the ability to catch up with most attackers in this league is very unique A superb debut Adran Premier season for Llewellyn Honourable Mention – Lowri Ridings (Briton Ferry) I have to give Ridings so much credit for Ferry’s performances too When it comes to natural born leaders in this league Her communication qualities are second to none and Ferry are very lucky to have her as their leader Webb has enjoyed a very good first season in North Wales with TNS She will be key to how TNS progress next season Honourable Mention – Grace Corne (Barry Town United) Corne has certainly added something different to this Barry defence Her professionalism shines through in how she plays and leads especially with a young defender like Angharad Beman by her side Right Wing-Back – Maria Francis-Jones (The New Saints) Eyebrows were most certainly raised when Francis-Jones left Manchester City to join TNS you can see that she operates at a completely different level to so many others in this league and her delivery from set-pieces and crosses are dangerous every single time Honourable Mention – Lisa Owen (Cardiff City) The wing-back has had to wait her turn to have a run in the starting eleven but she’s grabbed that opportunity with both hands and she sets the standard in this Bluebirds team How Briton Ferry defied the odds in the Adran Premier Left Wing-Back – Ffion Price (Cardiff City) It feels like Price has accomplished everything already in this league but to win the Golden Boot from a left wing-back spot is simply sensational We know how dangerous she is from dead ball situations but she is also able to run directly at her opponents and I can’t think of any player in this league who would relish a battle against her Honourable Mention – Emily Freeman (Barry Town United) Freeman is maybe a player who doesn’t get the credit she deserves Freeman plays with no fear and is always eager to offer encouragement to teammates at any opportunity Centre-Midfield – Tija Richardson (Briton Ferry) I mentioned that Shannon Evans should be considered for signing of the season and Richardson should be right up there with her What she’s given this Ferry side is experience and calmness in the middle of the park she is more than capable of finding the right pass or shoot at the appropriate time Honourable Mention – Kerry Walklett (Cardiff City) If there was an award for Most Improved player The growth that she has shown throughout the season has been heartening to watch in a way and her captaining the Bluebirds towards the end of the season proves just that Centre-Midfield – Lia Lewis (The New Saints) box-to-box midfielders in the Adran Premier this season but more than happy to come back and offer her defence some help when required Lewis has been the constant that they have needed to improve week upon week It’s been yet another solid campaign for Jones in the heart of the Wrexham midfield Jones always wants to move the ball around quickly and also has the ability to score some wonder goals In the build-up to the Bute Energy Welsh Cup final Iddenden explained how she lost her love of football at her old club but you can see how much she’s enjoyed this first season at Wrexham Nine goals and nine assists in the league this season proves that Iddenden can hurt the opposition in a number of different ways making her one of the league’s trickiest customers Honourable Mention – Ava Suckley (Wrexham) Iddenden’s attacking partner has to get a mention Eleven goals is a great return for Suckley who only managed to find the back of the net twice last season Her performances have also taken the pressure off the likes of Rosie Hughes which has really benefitted Steve Dale’s team The evolution of Cardiff City, as Bluebirds win third straight Adran Premier title Centre Forward – Chantelle Teare (The New Saints) At one stage it felt like Teare was scoring every week for TNS it feels like she’s cracked the Adran Premier code and has torn defences apart at times and her place in this Team of the Season is richly deserved Honourable Mention – Lexi Jones (The New Saints) Jones has enjoyed a terrific season at Park Hall She has so many traits that defenders hate in this league and can just turn defenders inside and out in a blink of an eye Another young player who has shined this season has been Barry It took her a little bit of time to adjust to the Adran Premier She plays with a swagger and a confidence that is unmatched by many and she has scored so many important goals in City’s charge to the championship Honourable Mention – Aimee Deacon (Swansea City) Many at Swansea will want to put this season behind them quickly but Deacon can take a lot of heart from her displays Especially when Stacey John-Davis and Katy Hosford were injured Deacon stepped up to the mantle and played like a player beyond her years (Featured Image: John Smith/FAW) Aaron Ramsey was keeping his options open after Cardiff turned in a spirited performance before losing 4-2 at Norwich in their final Championship clash of the season The already-relegated Bluebirds were 3-0 behind and down to 10 men after just 23 minutes but battled after that to come away with their pride intact It was Ramsey’s third game as interim head coach and the Welsh international is not ruling out going for the job on a full-time basis “I am a Cardiff fan and know what they have been going through and the questions they have been asking,” he said and in the three games I think we have given the supporters something to buy into “There will be a few meetings going forward and at some stage there obviously needs to be some clarity Norwich scored three times in 10 first-half minutes to take control Marcelino Nunez side-footed home a Jack Stacey cross to open the scoring before curling in a glorious 25-yard free-kick after Josh Sargent had been pulled back by Calum Chambers The Bluebirds’ defender was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity and when Borja Sainz steered home his 19th of the season a rout looked on the cards But Cardiff kept battling and Danish striker Yousef Salech scored two second-half goals either side of a thumping Shane Duffy header Ramsey added: “We started really well but then switched off and got punished A couple of minutes later it’s 2-0 and we are down to 10 men against a top-six (level) team who have probably underachieved for the past two seasons is interested in making his temporary role a permanent one “I feel like I am ready to make an impact at this level I didn’t want to leave Arsenal until I thought that was the case,” he said “I don’t know what the process is (for appointing a new coach) but I guess over the next few days I will find out “The staff and players have really helped me and we have finished the season on a positive note.” Norwich ended a six-match winless run and ended the campaign in 13th Wilshere added: “Getting a win in front of our own fans was important and overall I thought it was a good day for us “Once we settled into our rhythm I thought we looked really dangerous.” Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" Wales captain Aaron Ramsey is the third man to manage Cardiff City this season this draw felt like the point of no return for Cardiff City This was not how Aaron Ramsey would have dreamt his first game in charge of his boyhood club teetering on the brink of relegation from the Championship Yet this was still a moment to savour for the Wales captain The sight of Ramsey strolling along the touchline during the match against Oxford United will have felt surreal for many of those watching from the stands at Cardiff City Stadium some of whom would have been at Ninian Park when a 16-year-old Ramsey played his first game for the club on another sun-dappled April afternoon in 2007 Ramsey had left Cardiff as a boy and come back a man Between his 2008 move to Arsenal and celebrated return to the Welsh capital two years ago starred in the Premier League and played a leading role in a golden era for Wales As Cardiff's caretaker manager applauded the supporters before kick-off on Monday The warmth of the atmosphere inside Cardiff City Stadium was at odds with the mood outside beforehand where fans gathered to protest against the club's owner Vincent Tan and the board Given the team's perilous position in the Championship table and the chronic antipathy from supporters towards the club's hierarchy the match against Oxford had all the makings of an afternoon of pure toxicity Cardiff - for years ravaged by division and discord - had a rare unifying force To put the 34-year-old in charge for the final three games of the season was undoubtedly a roll of the dice; a desperate measure from a board that has perpetually fumbled from one crisis to another it felt like neither party had much to lose Troubled Cardiff held by Oxford in Ramsey's first game still registered as a player and with no coaching experience there was a chance to enhance his hero status by inspiring an improbable escape act it was relatively risk-free for his reputation because too much damage had already been done to lay any of the blame for relegation on him chairman Mehmet Dalman and chief executive Ken Choo The final stages of previous manager Omer Riza's reign had deepened the wounds that have hurt this club in recent years particularly its ever-worsening disconnect with its supporters the guiding principle for Ramsey's appointment was simply: Why not Cardiff could only improve on the dismal end to Riza's tenure and that is precisely what they did under Ramsey With only a day to prepare for the Oxford game he had assembled a new coaching team and instilled in his side an intensity and purpose that had been lacking under his predecessor A conversation with Wales manager Craig Bellamy helped and Bellamy's influence was clear not only in the way Ramsey had set up his team but in the way he talked about the game afterwards "I spoke to Bellers (Craig Bellamy) quite a bit He's helped me out quite a lot in that 24 "We didn't have a lot of time to work on tactical things so I didn't want to overload the players with too much information but it was more about trying to get your principles across and habits." Ramsey needed to lean on people he could trust as well as those he rated He brought in his great friend and former Wales team-mate Chris Gunter alongside Cardiff club captain Joe Ralls – like Ramsey currently out injured – and Wales' Ryland Morgans as his assistant coaches it was Gunter who Ramsey turned to for a hug and some words of encouragement Having come through the youth ranks at Cardiff Ramsey and Gunter had been inseparable as Wales room-mates and north London neighbours with the former's move to Arsenal coming just a few months after the latter's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur responsible for the team they supported as boys Cardiff City fans protested against the club's owner Vincent Tan and board for the second time this season While Gunter and Ralls took the players through their pre-match training drills some of the chatter in the stands turned to weighty issues as fans waited for Ramsey to appear Would he be in a club tracksuit like Gunter and Ralls He might even be tempted with the long puffer coat once favoured by his former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger The answer was a black long sleeve polo shirt and black slacks with dark leather trainers; the kind of casual look Pep Guardiola is partial to at Manchester City With sleeves rolled up and hands in his pockets Ramsey had the same air of calm confidence he has carried throughout his playing career loudly encouraging his players and geeing up the crowd Ramsey was delighted with what he saw from his players who controlled the game and deservedly led through Yousef Salech's second-half header only for Oxford to equalise with their only shot on target – an unstoppable long-range strike by Cameron Brannagan With results elsewhere going against Cardiff they are now second from bottom of the table and three points adrift of safety with only two games left If Ramsey was to pull them out of the fire from here Even if Cardiff are relegated – as many fans seem to have accepted as inevitable – nobody will blame Ramsey He inherited an unenviable situation and has precious little time to turn it around the 86-cap Wales midfielder wants to continue playing and with his Bluebirds contract expiring this summer Should Ramsey return to the touchline with his beloved club beyond this season 491 CommentsWales captain Aaron Ramsey will take charge of Cardiff City for the remainder of the Championship season after the Bluebirds parted company with Omer Riza Riza was told of the decision on Saturday after defeat at Sheffield United left the Bluebirds one point from safety in the Championship relegation places will lead the side for the first time during Monday's game against Oxford United at Cardiff City Stadium (15:00 BST) He will be assisted by former Wales team-mate and current Wales Under-19s manager Chris Gunter who is expected to continue in his role as goalkeeping coach makes up the remainder of the technical staff alongside under-21s coach Matt Bloxham and under-18s manager Tom Hutton A club statement read: "We'd like to thank Omer for his passion and effort during his time as Cardiff City manager and wish him the very best for his next steps in the game." Sheff Utd sweep aside Cardiff to keep top-two hopes alive Ramsey has no frontline managerial experience but has harboured coaching ambitions for some time being tipped by Wales boss Craig Bellamy as someone who could work at a high level at the end of his playing career The 86-cap international will be the third man in the Cardiff dugout this season one that began with Erol Bulut at the helm before he was sacked after picking up just one point from their opening six games as the club endured its worst ever start to a season Former Watford coach Riza - drafted in to assist Bulut last summer - was initially appointed on a caretaker basis before being handed a contract until the end of the season in December after an upturn in form he has come under increasing pressure with Cardiff unable to pull away from trouble It is believed some of the club hierarchy had considered a change last month - with former manager Neil Warnock considered as a replacement - only for Riza to retain the support of owner Vincent Tan But with fans calling for Riza to be removed after Friday's 2-0 loss at Bramall Lane – their fifth game without a win - the club have taken action in a late bid to avoid dropping into the third tier for the first time since 2002 Cardiff will hope the appointment of Ramsey - one of the club's most decorated youth products - will at least galvanise supporters ahead of final games against Oxford The midfielder became the club's youngest ever player after breaking into the first-team at the age of 16 in 2007 before moving to Premier League Arsenal He returned to his boyhood club in 2023 following spells at Juventus and Nice although his impact on the field had been limited because of injury Ramsey had been ruled out from any playing involvement during the Championship run-in after having surgery on a hamstring injury sustained in defeat against Luton Town last month He has worked at the club's academy during his time back in south Wales while has also provided tactical analysis for Riza from games during a previous injury lay-off earlier in the season To load Comments you need to enable JavaScript in your browser View comments | 491Top storiesTrailblazer Zhao set to take snooker to 'another level' in China Aaron Ramsey will lead the Club for the remaining three games of the Sky Bet Championship season beginning with Monday’s match at home to Oxford United Matthew Bloxham and Gavin Ward will join Aaron in the technical area We’d like to thank Omer for his passion and effort during his time as Cardiff City manager and wish him the very best for his next steps in the game Omer Riza criticises 'clueless' critics but says there are 'lots of good people' around Cardiff City Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has been called "disrespectful" for branding some of the club's fans "clueless" Riza has come under pressure with Cardiff in the Championship relegation places with just four games of the season remaining Speaking before Friday's key game at promotion-chasing Sheffield United I read all the comments from fans and unfortunately a lot of them are clueless." Riza went on to qualify the comment and insisted there were a lot of "good fans" but it still prompted a backlash on social media with Cardiff City Supporters Trust issuing a statement on Thursday it read: "Comments that fans are clueless are both disappointing and disrespectful given the need for everyone to be pulling in the same direction as Cardiff City battles to avoid relegation "Given the club's precarious position should expect to receive criticism from fervent supporters who are passionate about the future of our club We hope Omer will reflect on his ill-judged comments." Riza maintains he is 'right person' to keep Cardiff up Cardiff boss Riza calls for fans' 'help' Riza deserves more from board and players - Perry Supporters had been audibly frustrated at Cardiff's most recent defeat, a 1-0 home loss to survival race rivals Stoke City last weekend With the Welsh club one point from safety – and inferior goal difference to many sides around them – Riza said he was aware of the severity of the situation and was ready to accept responsibility Comments regarding fans came following a question over the personal toll the pressures have taken on him during his first permanent senior management position having replaced Erol Bulut in the Bluebirds dug out in September "It's something I need to be better at," he said I can be obsessed with the situation and knowing the importance of it and sometimes you can neglect your family Then you reflect and think that shouldn't happen and as a young manager it's something I need to get better at It's a failure on my part if we go down ideas about where I feel I can take this club I read all the comments from fans and unfortunately a lot of them are clueless "That's what I've got to learn I've got to learn to come away from that side of things so I can stay focused on what I am doing - because there are lot of good people out there a lot of good fans and we've got to do this together drawn 14 and lost 13 Championship games since replacing Erol Bulut as Cardiff City manager in September 2024 It is the not the first time supporters have picked up on comments from Riza a subject he had addressed earlier in the press conference where he admitted he had tried to be more cautious with what he said The former Watford coach had previously described Cardiff's remaining games as cup finals something he suggested had been mocked by some critics among the fanbase "That got turned into a joke – but this isn't the time for jokes or for people to take the mick out of the situation," he said "For me that's painful because it seems like any opportunity for people to latch onto something that is supposed to be a positive and turn it into a negative "Whether it's a manager making mistakes a player or some of the fans are disgruntled maybe a sentence is turned into something it shouldn't be and that's disappointing for me From the bottom of the my heart I want it do well because I'm part of it." The 6ft 5in striker scored both Cardiff goals at Carrow Road taking his total to nine from 22 appearances in all competitions since his move from Swedish side Sirius in January The fee was undisclosed but believed to be between £3m and £4m and Cardiff would hope to make a profit on the 23-year-old should he leave this summer "There's always going to be interest in players of his quality," said Ramsey He showed again what he's capable of doing He's a fantastic player and he's only going to get better "Some of the goals he's scored and it's not just that that effort he puts in is not to be sniffed at He's a serious player who's only going to get better." Relegation will come at a significant financial cost for Cardiff who will lose much of their income from broadcast deals and sponsors That could make it harder for them to reject offers from higher-placed clubs should any come in for Salech "We always want to keep our best players and he's no different," the Wales captain added "There's a few things that need to be addressed over the coming weeks and hopefully that will give some clarity to everyone – players while there are also starts for David Turnbull Tanatswa Nyakuhwa and Troy Perrett are on the City bench The incident is said to have occurred at approximately 1am on Saturday South Wales Police confirmed an investigation has been launched following the assault outside the Church Inn Detectives were previously searching for a 28 year-old suspect in relation to the incident The force has now confirmed he has since handed himself in and has currently been released on police bail The 61-year-old victim of the assault remains in hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing and anybody who may have information and hasn't yet spoken to officers is urged to do so Cardiff Rugby are delighted to secure the services of Danny Southworth on a long-term contract at the Arms Park.  The Welsh-qualified loose-head prop joined the Blue & Blacks last summer from Exeter Chiefs and has enjoyed an impressive first campaign in the capital.  Southworth has made 17 appearances through the season scoring one try while consistently displaying his set-piece prowess work-rate and explosive power on both sides of the ball The 26-year-old has been pleased with his move to Cardiff and with his long-term future secured he is determined to continue individual and collective growth.  He said: “I’m really happy to agree a new deal here I was welcomed into the group from day one and I’m loving living in Cardiff The Arms Park is also special and we are fortunate to  “It’s great to be playing consistently and getting so many minutes is really allowing me to develop my game and I’m determined to continue that.  “I hope I have added something to the group and with the talent and potential we have I really believe we can achieve something special together Staying at Cardiff long-term after an impressive first season. "I thought there were moments in the game when we played quite well I thought we contained Sheffield well at times with our structure – they didn't cause us loads of issues "We always knew it was going to be a tough game out of possession and I thought we managed it quite well "Second half we tried to take the game to them and we had a lot of the ball We probably didn't quite cause them enough problems going forward – our moments needed to be cleaner and more decisive "The [first] goal took the momentum away when we still felt we could try to get something from the game then the second goal comes from a little error." Martin Andersson top-scored for Derbyshire in a tense final-over draw with Glamorgan in the Rothesay County Championship fixture at Sophia Gardens.  Ben Kellaway claimed career best batting and bowling figures on the same day as Luis Reece and number 11 Blair Tickner survived 28 balls to secure a 13-point draw. The 21-year-old’s 78 set up a declaration before taking 5 for 101 in 25 overs, falling just short of handing Glamorgan a win. Tasked with the last over after taking two wickets in two balls, Kellaway produced a spectacle turnaround after twists and turns on the final day with Derbyshire firing towards victory on numerous occasions when set 338 in 65 overs. David Lloyd started Derbyshire’s winning hopes against his former side before Martin Andersson and Brooke Guest’s 97-run partnership put Derbyshire in the ascendency for 56 of their 65 overs. The day began in an all results possible situation. The hosts had an explosive end to the first session from Glamorgan from Chris Cooke and Kellaway, despite the latter having some fortune when kicking a ball away from his stumps on 19. With 124 added in 32 overs from the overnight score, Glamorgan subsequently declared at lunch with the veteran ‘keeper stranded on 49 not out. Derbyshire requiring a chase which would rank fourth amongst their successes if pulled off started strongly with the opening pair chalking up a half-century partnership in just 10.5 overs, stamping their authority on their decision-making in the three-way result possible scenario. Leonard striking in his first over started a will they, won’t they scenario with Wayne Madsen then taking over as enforcer for his 22 from 19 balls, ended by a diving catch from Andy Gorvin at fine-leg, another for Leonard. Kellaway regained the hope on two occasions for Glamorgan. The prize of Caleb Jewell short of 50, sweeping against the spin. Guest and Andersson’s run-a-ball 50 partnership with innovation and big hitting in form over reverse-sweeps and muscled pull shots and clean strikes over mid-on put Glamorgan into defensive mode. Kellaway kickstarted hope for a second time to foresee a Derbyshire collapse. Anuj Dal the last remaining hope with Reece before attention would have to turn to Tickner. The all-rounder, on 34 after coming in to attempt the chase, charging down with just 29 balls to survive, stumped to complete the 21-year-old’s five-for. With 28 balls to follow, Tickner showcased his international experience blocking out for 1 in 10 balls with a calm-headed Reece batting at number 10, surviving against an ambidextrous over from the off-spinner-come-left-arm-orthodox-bowling youngster. Callum O'Dowda (right) scored an injury-time winner for Cardiff as they beat Norwich 2-1 in November Norwich City ended the Championship season with a thumping win over the 10 men of already-relegated Cardiff City as caretaker Canaries boss Jack Wilshere got the better of his counterpart and former Arsenal team-mate Aaron Ramsey Neither team had anything to play for at Carrow Road but Norwich who had drifted out of play-off contention ruthlessly wrapped up victory before half-time against their pitiful opponents Although Cardiff missed three early chances they wilted at the first sign of pressure as the hosts raced into a 3-0 lead after 23 minutes thanks to two goals from Marcelino Nunez and one from Borja Sainz Lamentable Bluebirds defending allowed Nunez to tap in the first before Calum Chambers was sent off for the visitors for denying Josh Sargent a clear scoring opportunity with Nunez brilliantly curling the subsequent free-kick into the top corner Sainz punished yet more charitable defending to fire into the bottom corner Cardiff at least showed some fight after the interval as Yousef Salech scored a penalty he had earned himself after impressively running with the ball from his own half to the opposition box Shane Duffy restored Norwich's three-goal advantage when he headed in from Jacob Wright's corner before Salech scored his second to make the scoreline respectable This was Bluebirds caretaker manager Ramsey's first defeat in his third and final game in charge while Wilshere picked up his first win at the second attempt – and may yet be in the frame to succeed Johannes Hoff Thorup permanently The result also meant it was a winning send-off for the Canaries' goalkeeper and captain for the day who had confirmed he would be leaving the club for whom he and his father Norwich finish the season 13th in the Championship while Cardiff end it at the bottom of the table as they prepare to play in the third tier for the first time since 2003 next term Ramsey 'doesn't know' what Cardiff future holds This has been an utterly miserable campaign for the Welsh club whose relegation to League One was confirmed with a goalless draw at home to West Bromwich Albion a week earlier Bottom of the Championship having won fewer games than anyone else the Bluebirds initially appeared to be liberated by the lack of jeopardy in this game as they started positively with Cian Ashford Joe Ralls and Chambers all forcing Gunn into fine saves during the opening 10 minutes they found themselves trailing 3-0 and down to 10 men – a microcosm of their nightmare season Norwich's first goal was embarrassingly easy as Jack Stacey was given too much time and space in the penalty area to cross to an unmarked Nunez Chambers made matters worse three minutes later when he was sent off for pulling back Sargent with the American seemingly in on goal and Nunez compounded the punishment with his superb free-kick Sargent then hit the post and Sainz drilled in the Canaries' third goal from Nunez's pass before Ruairi McConville headed against the bar Cardiff were fortunate not to be more than three goals down at the break and Salech gave their travelling fans rare reason to cheer as he set off on a mazy run from his own half surged into the Norwich box and was pushed over by Callum Doyle Salech rolled his penalty into the bottom left corner but his team's relative joy was short-lived as Duffy nodded the home side 4-1 in front Cardiff's 10 men kept grafting and got their reward when O'Dowda nodded the ball down to Salech who scored with an instinctive half-volley But as has often been the case for the Bluebirds this season Norwich caretaker manager Jack Wilshere told BBC Radio Norfolk: I thought we played some good football and the players did exactly what we asked them to do "They really started the game well and we tried to focus on putting them under pressure trying to force it and not managing transitions Cardiff caretaker manager Aaron Ramsey told BBC Radio Wales: "I was really happy with the way we started we caused them a few problems and had a few chances the sending-off and you find yourself 2-0 down so it's about sorting that out and as soon as we made those tweaks I felt we were much more in control "I can't fault the boys' effort For them to take on all the information we gave them That's the culture and those are the habits we need if we're going to be a serious team and bounce back." fine effort from Glamorgan's bowlers as Derbyshire struggled to 215-7 They twice lost wickets in clusters either side of a stand of 76 between Brooke Guest (45) and Martin Andersson (46) The seam bowlers made scoring difficult for most of the day as the pitch offered them some assistance with Derbyshire needing 282 to avoid the possibility of a follow-on Glamorgan's 431 solid all out saw Timm van der Gugten's 62 as the main lower-order contribution on day two it was honours even for the first session as Glamorgan added 95 more runs for the loss of their last four wickets Colin Ingram fell for 81 in the first over hooking Blair Tickner straight to fine leg but a stand of 86 between van der Gugten and Gorvin (39) occupied most of the morning Tickner bowled fast and short while Anuj Dal beat the bat without success before the batting pair settled in to accumulate gently Spin eventually did the trick for Derbyshire as former Glamorgan skipper David Lloyd claimed two wickets and Alex Thomson one to finish the innings off Lloyd fell for two in the first over of the visitors' reply as he dragged an attempted drive off Asitha Fernando onto his stumps The Sri Lankan proved expensive but Glamorgan's change bowlers put Derbyshire in trouble as Gorvin's first ball saw Harry Came caught behind down leg-side Ned Leonard had the in-form Wayne Madsen slashing to slip and Gorvin induced prolific Australian Caleb Jewell (34) to chip a return catch at 72-4 Guest and Andersson counter-attacked judiciously in a stand of 76 before another cluster of three wickets on a pitch which was starting to look two-paced who had been left out for the previous two games bowled Andersson and had Dal brilliantly stumped by Chris Cooke second ball Meanwhile fellow medium-pacer Zain Ul Hassan deceived Guest with a ball that moved slightly and kept low as he conceded just a single off his first five overs But the visitors found some resistance late in their day with a half-century stand between the injured Luis Reece batting with a runner and restricted because of a hamstring problem and Thomson who was dropped at slip off Ul Hassan on 12 With Thomson playing the odd attacking shot reasons for it but you want to play as much as you can so it's nice to be back and contributing We've had two decent days but hard work to come." so if we can get another 100-150 runs out of these runs to be scored and there aren't any demons in it yet "It's the first time I've batted with Martin since he joined so nice to put on a partnership with him and hopefully there's more to come "We've Returning to the Welsh capital for the first time for almost a full year, BURNER have been on a hot streak since the release of their debut album It All Returns To Nothing And with two newly released songs behind them they take the stage as the band burst into The Night Does Not End While Clwb Ifor Bach is a perfect sound for BURNER as they sound phenomenal vocalist Harry Nott is on doctors’ orders to be on vocal rest but you couldn’t tell as he’s up there thrashing around the stage with his barbed wire coated vocals cutting through the blaring drums of Jack Bryant There’s almost zero crowd participation apart from a few heads nodding which is a shame for BURNER as they’re up there giving their all for the half empty room and people staggering in towards the end of their set it’s proven that even with a vocalist whose voice isn’t 100% they make a statement about what they can do on stage Going from the chaotic metal styling of BURNER Celestial Sanctuary take the stage with their 90’s death metal edge The slower pace on set opener Puddles Of You Reflect The Filth Within feels like the brakes are being slammed on in terms of song progression as it’s a juxtaposition with the neck breaking pace of Glutted With Chunder which wakes the crowd up a bit for a small circle pit it does soon die down as they go back to their slower chugs but the crowd seem uninterested for the most part which is a shame as CELESTIAL SANCTUARY are up there shredding their souls out but it makes it hard to pinpoint where one song ends and another starts as the buzz sawed guitars take charge over everything else Unless vocalist/guitarist Thomas Cronin took time to talk to the crowd between violently shredding his throat Don’t let it dilute your opinion of the band as they have some killer songs It just seems that both the sound and crowd tonight are uninterested in playing ball EMPLOYED TO SERVE have gained more and more traction in the metal landscape with each passing album leading to some high-profile support slots for the band they’re enjoying their time in the smaller venues Emerging onto the stage whilst DIO’s Heaven & Hell plays, the band burst into lead single from Fallen Star, Atonement And immediately the room erupts into chaos The only safe space is toward the back as bodies are flailing in the pit as vocalist Justine Jones commands the crowd with her cheeky grin “There’s the rowdy Welsh!” She chuckles before the band burst into Force Fed And at the three song point they’ve got the crowd in their palms has his hands full keeping the band in time whilst delivering a stellar performance behind the kit Guitarists Sammy Urwin & David Porter stand at each side of the stage as they both shred betwixt the booming bass from Casey McHale is pushed toward the back but whose presence isn’t forgotten As the band move forward in their set the get tighter and more vicious feeding off the crowd and giving it back with more bite which isn’t even released at the time of the concert as the record was released the following day goes down as though it was released alongside anything else they’ve done in the past ten years Party’s Over has made one thing abundantly clear EMPLOYED TO SERVE aren’t showing signs of slowing down it may be the turbo charged boost they’ve been slowly gaining to launch them into bigger stages not just across the UK Check out our photo gallery of the night’s action in Cardiff from Stu Rowles here:  Like EMPLOYED TO SERVE on Facebook This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.
