Holiday park group, Pure Leisure Group, has acquired a premium lodge development located near its headquarters in Carnforth, Lancashire, for an undisclosed sum.
It completed the deal for the Twin Lakes Country Club asset working with Savills, which was acting on behalf of a private client.
It further strengthens Pure Leisure Group’s growing portfolio of luxury leisure destinations, which now numbers 20, and is down the road from Yealand Conyers, Carnforth where farmer turned leisure entrepreneur John Morphet founded Pure Leisure Group in 2004 after he sold his South Lakeland Caravans business to Legal and General Ventures for £100m, retaining the South Lakeland Holiday Village and building a new business.
The 25 acre development includes 29 two-storey luxury lodges overlooking the lakes, each featuring private hot tubs, and boasts an array of scenic amenities including two lakes, pedestrian walkways and a communal picnic area.
Planning permission is already secured for an additional 24 lodges, 11 apartments, and a clubhouse, allowing Pure Leisure Group significant scope for future expansion.
As part of its integration, Twin Lakes will operate under the firm’s Royal Westmoreland banner, the company’s hallmark for exclusive leisure experiences and the name of Morphet’s resprt in Barbados.
John Morphet, owner of Pure Leisure Group, said: “Twin Lakes Country Club is a perfect fit for our portfolio, offering a unique combination of luxury living, natural surroundings, and future growth potential.
“We’re excited to enhance the site’s offering and to extend our Royal Westmoreland experience to new and existing homeowners and holidaymakers, including the full use of facilities at our flagship park just a stone’s throw away.”
Operating under the Royal Westmoreland banner, Twin Lakes will feature alongside resorts in Barbados and Scotland and has three bedroomed, two-storey lodges available from £525,000.
Sizzle In on Market Street - known for its famous clock above the shop - shut last weekend.
Fiona Sowerby from the takeaway posted on social media that the closure was due to "unforeseen circumstances and the constant rise in bills and stock".
She said the owner "would like to take this opportunity to thank all the customers he has had over the last 35 years for their support in choosing to purchase from his takeaway".
Sizzle In was due to open for a final time last Sunday evening but Fiona posted that it would not "as we have minimal stock left".
"Again all of us would like to thank you for your support over the years," she said.
"We are all deeply saddened that it's had to come to an end and we apologise to those customers that didn't get their last takeaway from us."
Many customers posted their well-wishes and disappointment at news of the closure.
Phil said it was an "end of an era for Carnforth....very sad".
Iain said: "When we visited Carnforth when my mother was in hospital, it was one of our takeaways of choice. It's a sign of the times and such a shame!"
And Dan said: "Really sad, going to miss them decent sized kebabs."

Improvement works have been undertaken on the A6070
which links the motorway to the A6 at M6 junction 35
with the road now being closed for the resurfacing of the carriageway
The closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am from next Monday
This is to allow the road to be resurfaced as the final stage of a major project to bring it up to standard and make sure it meets future transport needs after 60 years in service
On Monday February 17 and Tuesday February 18 the A6070 will be closed for westbound traffic heading towards Carnforth from the M6
On Wednesday February 19 and Thursday February 20 the A6070 will be fully closed
On Friday February 21 and Saturday February 22 the A6070 will be closed for eastbound traffic heading towards the M6 from Carnforth
Lancashire County Council received £9.245m from the Department for Transport to carry out the improvements
The A6070 was previously known as the A601(M)
however following approval from the Secretary of State for Transport the 'special status' of the route was removed and it is no longer a motorway
the road became the A601(M) when the motorway was extended in the 1960’s
After more than 60 years in service this major maintenance scheme is bringing the road up to standard and make sure it meets future transport needs

Two fire engines from Morecambe and Carnforth were called to the collision between a car and an HGV at 8.15am on Saturday
The crash happened between Junction 35 and 36
"Fire service personnel extricated one casualty from a vehicle and handed them into the care of North West Ambulance Service," said a Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson
"Crews were in attendance for 90 minutes."
Cumbria Police said they were called just after 8:10am after reports of a collision between a car and an HGV on the M6 just past Burton Services
"The drivers of both vehicles attended hospital to be checked over," said a police spokesperon
"There were no obvious/serious injuries reported."
The 1.3-mile A6070 which connects the M6 and the A6 was originally built as part of the M6 Lancaster bypass in 1960
becoming the northern limit of the M6.
The road became the key link to the motorway network for North Lancashire when the M6 was extended north in the 1970s
and ultimately its special 'motorway' status was removed in 2023 as part of a project which has enabled much-needed maintenance to ensure it remains fit for use after more than 60 years in service.
funded by a £9.2m grant from the Department for Transport
began in April 2024 and has included:
leader of Lancashire County Council and local county councillor for the Carnforth area
said: "This has been a major project to maintain an important link road
and it's a credit to our highways team and our contractor AE Yates that it's been completed according to plan
"The road now being classified as an A-road as opposed to a motorway means that it does not have to meet the same design criteria which will save £30m to the cost of maintaining it over the coming years.
"We've also been able to carry out a number of environmental and ecological improvements as part of this scheme
in keeping with this now being a local road rather than part of the national motorway infrastructure.
"I'm grateful to the local community for their support and understanding while we've carried out this project over the past year."
said: "We're delighted to hand over the A6070 scheme to Lancashire County Council.
"Completing this project on time and on budget is testament to true collaboration with Lancashire County Council and our local supply chain.’’
