Wiltshire Council will be commencing work to upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing at A4 Rowden Hill in Chippenham
The works will take approximately three weeks to complete and there will be traffic management in place to enable the works to be carried out safely
including multi-way temporary traffic signals and a temporary signalised crossing
The crossing infrastructure at this location is nearing the end of its designed lifespan and will be replaced as part of our traffic signal refurbishment programme
This helps to ensure the crossing technology continues to function correctly
said: Our traffic signal refurbishment programme allows us to identify and prioritise signals that need refurbishment once they've reached the end of their design life
We understand this work may cause some disruption and we thank road users for their patience
These improvements are essential to keeping our road network safe
At the meeting of the Strategy and Resources Committee on 11 April 2024
Councillors agreed to establish a Community Environmental Forum to replace the current Climate and Ecological Emergency Advisory Group (CEEAG)
The new Forum will see local environmental groups
Councillors and officers come together to discuss the wider climate and biodiversity impacts within the town and will be an ideal networking group to share good practice
future projects and knowledge in a less formal environment across a wider audience
The first meeting was held on 20 September 2024
In 2019 Chippenham Town Council declared a Climate Emergency acknowledging that ‘The consequences of global temperature rising above 1.5°C are so severe that preventing this from happening must be humanity’s number one priority’ and made a commitment to work towards a carbon-neutral Chippenham
the Council set up a new Climate Emergency Advisory Group to make recommendations on how the Council could become a net carbon-zero organisation by 2030 and help our residents
and businesses to reduce their carbon emissions too
the Council declared an Ecological Emergency acknowledging that ‘Our society and economy are intimately linked with
and entirely depend on nature and biodiversity.’ The group became the Climate & Ecological Emergency Advisory Group (CEEAG) to incorporate wildlife and biodiversity initiatives
CEEAG was made up of six Town Councillors and six members of our local community with experience in helping the environment
the CEEAG group has made a number of notable contributions towards the Town Council’s environmental aspirations
specifically in helping to formulate the Town Council’s Climate Strategy and Action Plan
The Strategy and Action Plan brings together all actions contained within the previously agreed Climate and Ecological motions and remains the primary strategic document for both the Council’s internal operational and external community actions

Darren McQueen doubled Hornchurch’s lead on 37 minutes
Charlie Pegrum scored on 61 minutes to complete the scoring
Full-time: Chippenham Town 0-1 Chelmsford City
Kane Crichlow’s header 15 minutes from time was the only goal of the game
securing Chelmsford City three points on their travels to the The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium
Nico Valentine set up the goal after twisting and turning to beat Tyreke Johnson down the right-hand side
he then hung the ball up to the back post where Critchlow’s header found its way past Will Henry
through an array of bodies in both white and blue
The victorious Clarets team only had three players over the age of 22 including seven players coming through the Clarets pathway
This included Kennedy Mupomba who made an impressive league debut in midfield coming in for the absent Ryan Blackman
The only other change came after Arthur Penney’s red card last week
with Saleem Akanbi coming into to the starting lineup
Akanbi played 66 minutes before being replaced by academy graduate Freddie Hockey
Hoping to one day follow in Hockey’s footsteps
Jett Murphy and Lester Ward all made their league debuts from the bench
Chelmsford City registered their first shot on target after just the third kick of the game
when Charlie Ruff tested the Bluebird’s keeper after he flicked up
Henry failed to catch the ball and spilt the ball
but to his relief the early scare amounted to nothing
Chippenham would be worried again ten minutes later as Leone Gravata was on the receiving end of a Ruaridh Donaldson clearance
The ball struck Gravata in the face leaving him down and needing treatment
Gravata’s day was over as Gary Horgan called upon academy player Harlee Vozza as his replacement
Robbie Simpson’s Clarets would have their first chance at goal midway through the first half
after Mupomba was brought down for a free kick on the edge of the box as Valentine and Bland linked up well down the right-hand side
Captain Charlie Ruff stepped up to take the close-range free kick
Not long after entering the pitch Vozza would have the first chance for the Bluebirds as some good play found him clear in space on the left-hand side
Fortunately for Ted Collins his tame effort went straight down the middle of the goal
Chelmsford City then had a chance of their own to open the scoring just before half time
After a fantastic pass from Donaldson that put him in on goal
Oguntayo attempted to chip the goalkeeper as he crept off his line
but Henry stuck his hands in the air and managed to keep the game all square heading into the break
The Clarets had a penalty shout denied ten minutes into the first half after Ruff’s close-range shot was seemingly blocked by the arm of a falling Chippenham defender
The chance was created by a lofted pass from Mpumoba which was chested down by Akanbi to Ruff
The fresh legs of Hockey was utilized straight away a minute after coming on the pitch
Charlie Ruff slid him in down the right hand side but his cross was met by the keeper
Four minutes later Ruff would find Hockey in space on the right again and this time his shot would be turned away for a corner
Chelmsford was rewarded for their furry of chances five minutes later when Bermuda international Kane Crichlow’s header beat Henry
making him the highest goal scorer in the team for Chelmsford this season with 13 goals
Nico Valentine had done well to get past former Claret Tyreke Johnson and his cross was pinpoint for Crichlow
Chippenham had the chance to level the scoring with the last kick off the game as they were awarded a free kick
Like all of the home sides shots on the day it was an easy save for Ted Collins
who secured back to back clean sheets and his ninth in the league this season
the Clarets have mathematically secured survival but will still face some tough test as 4 of the bottom 5 are in the Clarets’ schedule for the remainder of the season
Crichlow (Murphy 90+8); Ruff (C) (Hayes 86’); Akanbi (Hockey 66’)

Sports come from behind to seal dominant win at The ReachTV Stadium
Adam Murray’s side were made to come from behind after Leone Gravata scored an early goal against his former club
the Sports responded with a superb display and were too good for their visitors – with Jayden Davis and Yahaya Bamba goals giving them the lead at half-time
And Borough went on to add to their advantage – with Jason Adigun and George Alexander – who had missed a penalty in the first half – completing a 4-1 win at The ReachTV Stadium
Davis was making his first start in the National League South after returning from his loan spell at Welling United – with Jack Clarke also named in the starting line-up by Murray
Borough looked to get on the front foot from the off
and went close through Alexander but he fired his first-time effort from inside the area over the top
But it was Chippenham who went in front after five minutes when former Borough starlet Leone Gravata slotted home after a great ball through from Caine Bradbury
The Sports looked for a swift response – and were given the chance to draw level when Bamba was tripped inside the penalty area – but Alexander saw his spot-kick saved by the feet of Josey Casa Grande
Camron Gbadebo lifted the ball in from the right and Jayden Davis rose highest to head beyond the visiting goalkeeper
Adam Murray’s men then went in front on 36 minutes
with Bamba playing a neat one-two with Alexander before firing across Casa Grande and into the far corner
Clarke did well to win the ball high up the pitch and his low ball across eventually fell to Bamba
but he fired over when well placed in first half stoppage time
The Sports’ pressure continued after the break – with Davis and then Jason Adigun going close – but Chippenham almost drew level out of nothing on the hour mark
A long kick from Casa Grande played in Bradbury
but he could only lift the ball wide with Joe Wright off his line
Borough would give themselves some breathing space when they extended their lead midway through the second half
Alexander beat Jac Poffley to break through on goal
and unselfishly the Borough forward cut the ball across to Adigun who fired into the empty net
Adigun then repaid the favour two minutes later
with a sublime ball through to set Alexander away and he chipped his shot over the keeper
The attacking threat didn’t subside though
with Adigun going close to number five moments later after once again linking up with Alexander
before Borough’s number 22 saw a low first-time strike whistle just wide
Borough almost did get a fifth in spectacular circumstances inside the last ten minutes
as Davis teed up defender Gbadebo 30 yards out
he hit a fierce shot that beat Casa Grande
but only for the ball to ricochet back off the bar
The win keeps the Sports in fourth spot on a day where five of the top six won – moving just two points off top spot

The ball was moved down the other end and Scott Wilson hit the side netting
On sixteen minutes Harry Parsons went down in the area but no penalty was awarded
Midway through the half Harlee Vozza made a good run but his attempted cross deflected into the hands of Harvey Wiles-Richards at the other end Wilson’s shot looped wide
Just before the half hour Alex Bray went down and had to be stretchered off with a knee injury
On forty minutes Mitch Beardmore’s corner was headed over by former Bluebird skipper Kieran Parselle
At the start of the second half Luke Haines’ shot from distance went over the bar
At the other end Will Henry superbly touched half-time substitute Elliott Frear’s fierce drive onto a post and behind for a corner
On the hour mark Tom Mehew found Bradbury whose low shot was well-saved by Wiles-Richards
Five minutes later Bradbury was off target with another effort
On sixty eight minutes substitute Leone Gravata’s first touch saw his headed effort cleared off the line by Jordan Tillson a minute later Haines saw his effort go wide
Chippenham took the lead on seventy four minutes as Parsons stabbed the ball home

Lowly Weymouth wasted a golden chance to continue their fight against relegation as they were playing against ten men from just before the break
a combination of good goalkeeping from Will Henry
returning after a three match absence due to injury
and wasteful finishing saw them literally pay the penalty when they too were reduced to ten men on seventy three minutes which saw them lose skipper Jordan Thompson after he fouled Tom Owen-Evans in the area conceding a penalty and the three points
The Terras could have been in front as early as the first minute when the unmarked Tom Bearwish headed straight at Will Henry
The home custodian then made a superb double block to deny Malachi Linton
Chippenham finally gave their supporters something to cheer as Leone Gravata’s shot was blocked to Freddie Grant but a bobble saw his effort go astray
Henry then punched away a corner and pushed out a Jake McCarthy free kick
Matt McClure then saw his shot blocked before the final minute of the half saw Gravata receive a straight red card for a trip on Linton
The resulting McCarthy free kick hit the side netting
whilst a long clearance set Linton clear but he blasted wastefully wide whilst also failing to hit the target with a sixty fifth minute chance
At the other end a Luke Spokes corner saw Grant head over
Then came the decisive moment as Thompson received a straight red card for fouling substitute Tom Owen-Evans in the box and McClure made no mistake from the resultant penalty
On eighty one minutes Grant’s cross rolled along the cross bar whilst Terras substitute Brandon Goodship was way off target with a shot at the other end
In stoppage time McCarthy shot over the home bar whilst Spokes weaved into the Weymouth area but couldn’t find a telling finish
