This we're super lucky to have not one, but TWO fabulous run reports! Both our run report authors for this week have written their reports to celebrate a milestone and shared a bit about how parkrun has been a part of their lives. We really enjoyed reading both these reports and we hope you do to! You can also see the photos, taken by volunteer photographer Steve Selwood, in our Flickr group First up is 10 year old Macsen Nelson who celebrated his 50th parkrun milestone a couple of weeks ago And now we hand over to Rebecca Woodward who celebrated her 200th parkrun and 150th parkrun at Chipping Sodbury Congratulations Rebecca and you are most definitely a runner Saturday 3rd May 2025 at Chipping Sodbury Parkrun – 200th total and 150th at Chipping Sodbury my friend lived on the cross country route and then head back to meet the others as they were finishing A friend told me about Chipping Sodbury Parkrun and offered to run with him I therefore registered myself and him and printed off our barcodes ( you had to in those days On Saturday 24th September 2016 I took him down and they set off I was in my walking gear and carrying a rucksack filled with post run snacks and drinks for him A volunteer said to me ”Aren’t you going to run?” I laughed I thought everyone would laugh at me and judge me if I even attempted to give it a try I also thought I would be last and way behind everyone else and suggested I might as well try whilst I was waiting and just think what you could do if you lost the rucksack and wore running gear!” I asked him if he was also going to ask how I’d gotten on The following week we realised a couple of families we knew also were attending with their children son and myself headed back to Chipping Sodbury Parkrun and it became a regular family event with everyone running at their own pace other friends doing the same with their families meeting in the football club afterwards for drinks and snacks as a reward 50s and 100s for the children and grown-ups and loved the camaraderie and friendliness The children became old enough to run without an adult and I told my brother about how great Parkrun was and he said He and his partner registered and joined in at a local event to them in London his partner is doing her 300th Parkrun this weekend in London Parkrun was suspended and we stopped attending The children became teenagers and time moved on The teenagers weren’t so keen to get out of bed on Saturday mornings to run and then they got jobs Then Covid struck again – me as an individual this time it left me with a heart condition called atrial fibrillation affecting how my heart rhythm worked I didn’t know this and just thought I was getting unfit and old I decided I should do something about my fitness and returned to Parkrunning walked more than I ran and my times reduced dramatically and this was the trigger causing me to seek medical advice I continued to attend Parkrun to try to keep as fit as possible The medics decided I needed an intervention so last month I was treated at the Bristol Heart Institute The following week I volunteered to tail walk and I am now starting to try to run again and at my last Chipping Sodbury Parkrun I managed to run a whole lap again – just like I did on that first occasion And now this week marks my 200th Parkrun and 150th at Chipping Sodbury Never would I have thought on that September day in 2016 that I would be marking this unofficial milestone today Parkrun has been a huge influence on my recent life and the community organisers and volunteers that bring it about each week are simply the best We love having guest writers of our run report. News – The leading South-West music venue announces rebrand Copyright © 2025 | WordPress Theme by MH Themes I haven't been at Chipping Sodbury parkrun for three whole weeks due to other commitments and so I was excited to be back this morning Here's just some of the reasons why it was such a special parkrun: The sun was shining: we love parkrun in all weathers a crisp sunny morning provided the perfect volunteering and running conditions The volunteers were extra fabulous: from playing 'hunt the cones' at 8am (they were hiding) right through to the huge cheers they gave our final finishers through the funnel and those that stayed to help pack everything up there was a real team spirit and it was a joy to be part of such a kind There were milestones: it's not celebrated as a milestone (but surely it's the most important one?) there were 14 people doing their first ever parkrun - welcome and well done to you all Oli Grove reached his junior 10th milestone getting their red 50 milestone tshirts were Harry Wheeler and Diane Whittaker and Lynne Pretty celebrated 100 parkruns Another unofficial (or arbitrary) milestone was achieved by Jazzy Jeff Hardy who did his 300th parkrun not because I think parkrun is about the times but because the pacers encapsulate what I do think parkrun is all about - supporting each other The pacers, parkwalkers and tail walker do more than run a specific time inspire and maybe even cajole their fellow parkrunners into completing a 5k with a smile on their face I love seeing groups of parkrunners forming around the pacers people shaking hands with their chosen pacer as they recover their breath in the funnel and the pacers looking so delighted that they helped someone else experience the buzz of a PB 5k Your Way volunteers include health professionals and people with lived experience of cancer and welcome anyone to come and chat to them by the 5k Your Way flag I could go on but perhaps 5 reasons is enough for one week so instead I'll end this run report with the words of one of my fellow run directors "this morning's parkrun was an absolute belter it was such a glorious morning with friends - thank you." After our RECORD ATTENDANCE on Christmas Day we had slightly fewer runners for this event but still a high turnout o 331 people running of whom 39 were first timers and 38 recorded new Personal Bests - possibly helped by our brilliant volunteer pacers The event was made possible by 35 volunteers: A very special mention to Rob Biggs who completed his 100th volunteer stint by helping with pre-event set up helping pack down AND taking the pacer bibs home to wash- what a star Thank you so much Rob for all your support of Chipping Sodbury parkrun in 2024 and many years before that we thought we'd reflect on the great achievements of parkrunners at Chipping Sodbury parkrun since we started on 22nd February 2014 Since then 16,741 participants have completed 135,104 parkruns covering a total distance of 675,520 km A total of 1,447 individuals have volunteered 12,225 times Thank you to Ruth Killeen for this week's fabulously festive run report.. Reindeer and at least one Fairy were out running around Chipping Sodbury parkrun this wonderful Christmas morning In total 565 fabulous people completed the parkrun on Christmas Morning 26 people completed their first ever parkrun We hope you loved the experience and will be back running Running around listening to Christmas tunes and being given chocolate as you cross the finish line was fantastic parkrun would not be able to go ahead without the dedication of our fantastic volunteers We also had a few people celebrating their Birthday’s today on Christmas Day Shout out to everyone who like Jennifer wore fancy dress Congratulations to each person who achieved their own goal today catching up with friends or simply making it to parkrun on Christmas morning A special shout out to Jorja Glover who inspiringly completed the course on crutches We were fortunate today to have a photographer to record today’s parkrun. You can see all his photos from today on our Flickr group Thank you to Clare Walker for this week's run report particularly its inclusivity & how it brings people together Not only was it my 1st time at Chipping Sodbury I got to run with my cousin doing his 1st parkrun Arriving to drizzle which didn’t seem to deter the 309 soon to be finishers but the youngest (7) had other ideas & even had the energy for a sprint finish Fortunately it’s a flat course so made it a little easier It was great fun & hopefully not their last it’s another step closer to my 250 run/250 volunteer thank you Chipping Sodbury & the 32 volunteers that made it happen You can see this week's photos on our Flickr group Thank you to volunteer photographer Steve Selwood for the wonderful photos of our event. Apparently at the back he has hit a few more people, a family.” Despite the incident, the organisers of the annual event, which draws a large crowd to the high street, said it would continue. The event started at 11am and was due to finish at 5.30pm. In a statement, the organisers said: “As many of you are aware there has been an incident at the top of the High Street. “We have been advised by the police not to cancel today’s event so the remainder of the High Street from Hobbs House Bakery down towards Broad Street and Horse Street is still open. “We would ask anyone attending today to please not take photos of the incident, and not speculate on social media as we work the emergency services to help those people who need assistance.” The Portcullis Hotel, near the high street, posted a message on social media after the incident. It read: “In light of the incident that occurred today at the top of the High Street we would like to send our well wishes to all of those who were unfortunately involved. “We would also like to take a moment for us all to appreciate the emergency services and the members of the public who were all there to quickly help.” A Santa float arranged from 5pm was also set to go ahead, it was reported on social media. an air ambulance and several other resources were dispatched to provide casualty care at the sceneA baby and young child have been taken to hospital after a car crashed into pedestrians at a Christmas market on the outskirts of Bristol No-one suffered serious injuries in the incident at Chipping Sodbury Christmas Market The driver - believed to be a man in his 80s - was manoeuvring out of a parking space when his car collided with seven pedestrians who was running a pizza stall at the market said the car hit "one mum and her pram" and "took them underneath" the vehicle "[He hit] a stall just in front of our van went through them as well," she added She said the vehicle then hit a planter before coming to a stop "Everything just happened so quickly," she said "I'm shaking and can't get my head round this."
