After nine months on the sidelines, FA Youth Cup winner Regan Clayton made his long-awaited return from a serious knee injury on Friday 17 January, coming on in the final ten minutes to help his West Ham United U21s teammates see out a 1-0 victory over Sunderland in Premier League 2
"It’s what I’ve been working towards this whole time," he said
"I woke up the morning of the game feeling a bit nervous because I hadn’t done this in a while
It turned into excitement throughout the day
I was so eager so when Robbo [Mark Robson] said ‘you’re coming on’
I just wanted to go on and show all the work I’ve been doing behind the scenes that no one’s really seen
and tried to get the boys up the pitch and support the team to see the game out
The 20-year-old certainly did not look out of place
commanding his team with captain-like presence
Hailing from a family that lives and breathes West Ham United
Clayton is now marking his tenth year at the Club
a decade after being scouted at a WHU Foundation Holiday Hammers camp
With over 100 development games under his belt, hardly a surprise since he broke into the U18s at 15 years old, injuries had never been an issue Regan had had to dwell on. A remarkable 2022/23 season which saw the young full-back play just shy of 50 games, including every single minute of the FA Youth Cup-winning campaign
as well as making two matchday squads during the senior team’s UEFA Europa Conference League winning adventure
Clayton’s progress was firmly on an upward trajectory toward first-team contention
“I was gutted I didn’t get on to make my debut but it was surreal being in that first-team environment,” he recalled
Regan and his teammates also had their own goals to achieve at youth level
featuring in all but one of their Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy fixtures
he seamlessly stepped back into the U18s when needed
winning all the games he played in as the young Hammers clinched a historic Premier League South and FA Youth Cup double
The first two times I played that competition
we went out in either our first game or the first few rounds
we were coasting past teams and you’re thinking ‘we could do it this year’
10,000 West Ham fans screaming West Ham chants
many of whom I’ve been playing with since the age of ten
The then 18-year-old was well on track to continuing his push towards the first-team fold
a hamstring tear during the off-season would foreshadow a challenging 2023/24 with more setbacks than progress
Clayton said: “Coming into that season I was feeling unstoppable
I was training well but the boys were flying in every competition.”
The U21s went on a 16-game unbeaten run as they cruised through the EFL Trophy and Premier League International Cup group stages and competed for top spot in the Premier League 2 regular season with Tottenham Hotspur
Clayton would eventually break back into the starting XI in March in a run of games which he describes as ‘the best football I’ve ever played’
But his resurgence was heartbreakingly cut short during stoppage time in the Premier League International Cup semi-final against PSV Eindhoven
suffering a serious knee injury which would rule him out for almost a year
He said: “I’d gone in for a 50-50 and my knee just went
I knew straight away because the pain was out of this world
and everyone at the Club have been brilliant
With his first professional deal set to expire that summer, the injury could not have come at a worse time. Countless hours in the gym and a determined attitude during his rehab paid off, with Clayton renewing his contract, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2026
He said: “The club were really good with me
focus on myself and get back at the right time.”
Clayton came on in the 82nd minute in the development side’s 1-0 victory against Sunderland to a warm ovation from the Rush Green Stadium crowd
He added: “I’ve been so zoned in on my rehab that being back in and around a matchday squad felt weird
All my physical testing has gone through the roof
Now it’s about getting my match sharpness because there’s nothing that can really replicate that
I felt really good when I came on against Sunderland and can’t wait to push on again!”
Clayton is expected to make his debut in Tuesday’s home game against Forest Green Rovers
The 20 year-old was a member of West Ham's 2023 FA Youth Cup winning team
Clayton has been a regular with West Ham's U21 team this season
Chorley Council’s planning committee gave the green light to a new branch of the fast food outlet on land currently occupied by the former Beaumont pub in Clayton-le-Woods
amid a raft of concerns from members of the public – including over the potential for antisocial behaviour and noise – members demanded the restaurant close no later than midnight and not open any earlier than 6am
Brindle and Hoghton ward councillor Michelle Beach – who usually sits on the committee
but sat out consideration of the restaurant plan so she could speak on behalf of residents – said locals feared it would bring “lawlessness”
the like of which had been reported at McDonald’s outlets in Chorley and Leyland town centres
Before departing the meeting she added that there were already three McDonald’s in a four-mile radius of the Woodale Road site where the new one will be built
Clayton-le-Woods resident Ron Gates told the committee the location was “a quiet residential area where many elderly people live and shop.”
“[They] would feel nervous and intimidated by the possibility of threatening behaviour by young people and boy racers,” Mr
deputy committee chair Alex Hilton said it was important to remember the previous use of the abandoned plot
“I would have thought there would probably be more antisocial behaviour and problems coming from a pub rather than a drive-thru restaurant,” said Cllr Hilton
who added that McDonald’s would bring employment to the area
Sixty-seven letters of objection were sent to the council over the plans
In a community consultation statement submitted with its application
McDonald’s said that it “enjoys a good relationship with local police forces and works in partnership with them to mitigate any issues of antisocial behaviour in the communities [we] operate in”. It added that “comprehensive training” is provided for staff “on how to manage the behaviour of customers”
Lancashire Police did not submit an objection to the proposed development
which committee member – and Clayton West and Cuerden ward councillor – Neville Whitham said he was “surprised” about
“I regularly receive police reports of antisocial behaviour…and petty crime [in that location] already,” he said
Cllr Whitham also noted no other business in the vicinity – including Asda – operated 24 hours a day
white his colleague and cabinet member for planning Alistair Morwood added that a through-the-night service would be “pretty inappropriate in this quiet residential area”
While McDonald’s had not stated an intention for the new outlet to be open non-stop
there were no planning conditions preventing it from doing so – until the committee decided to impose one
said the restaurant would “complement the existing commercial uses and bring this prominent site – which appears neglected and detracts from the appearance of the local area – back into use”

The West Ham Way
It was officially announced on Friday that 19 year old defender Regan Clayton has put pen to paper on a new two year contract with West Ham
who has been at the club since the age of ten
played in every minute of the Hammers FA Youth Cup winning season in the 2022/23 campaign
As he’s made his way through the age groups
Clayton has stood out and impressed the clubs academy staff thanks to not only his ability and talent on the pitch but also his attitude off the pitch
The defender broke into the U18’s squad at just 15 years old and would go on to sign scholarship terms alongside teammates George Earthy and Kaelen Casey who Clayton has progressed through the ranks with
Clayton would go on to break into Mark Robson’s U21 side
where he made more than 30 appearances and was named in the Hammers first team squad for both Conference League ties against FCSB in the 2022/23 season
Discussing his new contract with the club’s Official Website, Clayton said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling. Being here since Under 10s, this extension takes me to over a decade at the club I’ve always supported.”
Academy manager Kenny Brown was full of praise for Clayton and spoke extremely highly of the 19 year old: “He’s a very popular member of the group. He’s so consistent in everything he does. He’s a proper role model.” said Brown, who went on to add: “He’s a coach’s dream. He’s always ready, available, he wants to learn, and above all, he’s a good player. We believe in him and we want him around for a long time.”
ROYAL MAIL STRIKES: DELAYS WITH DELIVERIES MAY BE EXPERIENCED DURING STRIKE ACTION
West Ham United is delighted to announce that young defender Regan Clayton has signed a new two-year contract
who played every minute of West Ham United’s FA Youth Cup-winning campaign in 2022/23
has put pen to paper on a new deal until the summer of 2026
Having joined the Academy at just ten-years-old
Clayton is West Ham through and through and has impressed staff throughout the age groups with his ability on the pitch
Breaking into the U18s squad at just 15, he signed scholarship terms with long-term teammates Kaelen Casey and George Earthy. Part of a bright group of young Hammers, our U18s recorded a historic 2022/23 season, clinching the Premier League South Division title and the FA Youth Cup
Impressive achievements in their own right
the then 18-year-old Clayton also broke into Mark Robson’s U21s squad
while also being part of West Ham United’s matchday squads in both UEFA Europa Conference League fixtures against FCSB in the early part of 2022/23
this extension takes me to over a decade at the Club I’ve always supported and grown up on.”
Clayton’s progress came to an unfortunate halt in April when a serious knee injury picked up in the Premier League International Cup semi-final against PSV Eindhoven required surgery
leaving the boyhood Hammer uncertain about his future as he approached the end of his contract
this contract extension has given me such a huge boost,” he continued
“The recovery process is a long one and the new contract has given me a massive lift in terms of confidence
I’m really itching to get back on the pitch with them
the staff are highly-skilled and they are great people to be around
Academy Manager Kenny Brown could not speak higher of the young midfielder
a player who embodies the values of West Ham United
He said: “Regan was instrumental in our success in the FA Youth Cup
When you look at players that thrive in their scholarship
Commenting on Clayton's rehabilitation process
Brown continued: “He’s got the full support of everybody here
We know he’ll attack his rehab in the same way he’s attacked every training session
We believe in him and we want him around for a long time.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Regan on signing his new contract and wish him every success for his future career in Claret and Blue

Clayton West were inspired to victory over Armitage Bridge in the Under 13 Examiner Salver Cup final at Thurstonland by a top batting performance from Oliver Briggs
A showpiece of the Sellers Huddersfield Junior Cricket League season
the 20-overs-per-side clash was tightly poised after Armitage Bridge set a total of 97-1 after being sent in to bat
after spinner Danyal Rehmen took two wickets in the sixth over to leave the West at 37-3 in reply
But up stepped wicketkeeper-batsman Briggs to swing the final
surviving the hat-trick delivery and then putting his side in command with a well-compiled 26 off just 19 deliveries
Briggs had hit five boundaries by the time he retired in the 10th over
propelling Clayton West to 69-3 and well ahead of the rate as Armitage Bridge had been 34-0 at the same stage
Skipper and opener Zeb Bell retired on 25 off 30 deliveries just two overs later (two fours)
leaving his side with just 19 needed from the final eight overs
That proved no problem for Henry Pennie and Henry Brough
who finished eight not out and 10 not out respectively as Clayton West sealed the trophy for the second time in their history in the 16th over
who bowled Hugo Bennett for five in the first over
finished with one for 15 off his three overs
Callum Rudge and Bennett kept the rate at below four an over
Captain Charlie Shaw hit two boundaries before retiring in the 11th over with 25 off 32 deliveries
while opening partner Ahmed retired two overs later with 26 off 39
having hit the only six of a final watched by around 100 spectators
Keeper Alex Smith was the only wicket to fall
bowled by Rory Adamski after hitting 20 off 22 deliveries with three fours
Dylan Baylis kept the Bridge scoreboard ticking with 17 off 22
but they knew they needed a solid bowling and fielding performance to protect that total of 97-1
Briggs took that chance out of their hands and was selected as man-of-the-match by umpires Michael Onions and Rodney Mee
Under 13 organiser Geoff Barnard and retired sports editor Mel Booth
who presented the trophy to Clayton West captain Zeb Bell
Broad Oak and Denby Dale to reach the final
Four of West Ham United's on-loan players were in action for their respective temporary clubs in midweek
Regan Clayton started and played the full 90 minutes for Dagenham & Redbridge in their 2-1 home defeat to Woking in the National League
The defender was at the heart of the Daggers’ performance against Neal Ardley’s Cardinals
and was voted the Player of the Match for his excellent showing
a performance that saw the 20-year-old pull off an unbelievable goal-line clearance in the second half
long-range effort gave the visitors the lead just 16 minutes in at Chigwell Construction Stadium
before Josh Rees restored parity on 46 minutes with a brilliant curling effort into the far corner
The hosts’ momentum was short-lived, however
as Morias latched on to Lewis Walker’s defence-splitting pass
rounded goalkeeper Nathan Harvey and placed the ball into the empty net to seal three points
George Earthy came off the bench on 61 minutes as Bristol City defeated Stoke City 2-0 to maintain their push for the play-offs
Anis Mehmeti was the hero for the Robins at Ashton Gate
scoring a goal either side of half-time for Liam Manning’s side
on the same night, Mason Terry produced another stellar display between the sticks as Hornchurch collected another win in a rich vein of form
securing a 2-1 victory at home to Boreham Wood
The shot-stopper was forced into a string of saves to keep the Urchins level
denying the likes of Matt Rush and Kwesi Appiah before Tom Wraight headed home to give the hosts the lead after 28 minutes
Ángelo Balanta then doubled their lead eight minutes later
was only beaten when Junior Dixon bulleted home a header after a well-timed run
but Hornchurch held on to claim the three points and rise to 15th in the National League South table
In the UEFA Europa League, on Thursday
Nayef Aguerd was introduced as a second-half substitute as Real Sociedad earned a 2-1 win over FC Midtjylland in the first leg of their knockout play-off round tie
Brais Méndez had opened the scoring from the spot in the eleventh minute before Takefusa Kubo doubled the visitors’ lead just after the half-hour mark
Adam Buksa halved the hosts' deficit before the break as he capped off a well-worked move with a close-range finish
Aguerd came off the bench for Jon Pacheco at the interval and delivered a commanding second-half performance in defence as Sociedad secured their first knockout triumph since beating Atlético Madrid in November 1998
The second leg takes place at Anoeta Stadium
with kick-off scheduled for 8pm GMT
as Sociedad look to book their spot in the Europa League round of 16
committed and – like his idol Alphonso Davies – loves nothing more than to get forward to support the attack
The flying full-back ended the 2021/22 season with 26 appearances in all competitions for the U18s and two for the U23s
before signing professional terms with the Club
The 2022/23 season would be a significant one for Clayton
The defender was involved in two first team senior squads
sitting on the bench for both UEFA Europa Conference League Group B clashed with FCSB
and would make 31 appearances in all competitions for the development side.
Clayton's age permitted him to continue to represent the U18s also
with the full-back featuring seven times in the side's U18 Premier League South winning campaign
The defender also started all six FA Youth Cup matches for the side
showing his versatility as the team claimed a fourth Youth Cup trophy in the Club's history
Clayton 17 appearances for the U21s registering four assists as the side finished second in the Premier League 2 regular season and reached the last 16 of the EFL Trophy
Clayton suffered a knee injury in the U21s' Premier League International Cup semi-final tie against PSV
making his return to competitive action in January 2025
Following a handful of appearances for the development side upon his return
Clayton joined Dagenham & Redbridge on loan until the end of the season
The privilege of playing for West Ham United is not lost on Regan Clayton.
The full-back is a lifelong West Ham and achieved his dream of signing professional terms with the Irons late last month
putting pen-to-paper alongside six of his fellow Academy teammates.
Clayton is still living in the high of the moment.
“I feel over the moon,” Clayton told West Ham TV
“I’ve been a West Ham fan my whole life so playing for the Club is such an honour
“Then you start playing 11v11s and I really found myself
I started playing up the age groups and got to this point
Recalling the moment he found out about his professional deal
Clayton said: “I was in the gym at West Ham and my parents had told me they had a scholars meeting
“The U18s manager - Kevin Keen - came and got me from the gym and took me upstairs
My parents were sat in Ricky Martin’s office
“I looked at my mum and dad’s faces and it was so good
Just looking at them and then getting in the car after
Clayton admits he feels he began the season slowly before finding his feet in Keen’s U18s
The full-back would make 28 appearances for the U18s and featured for the U23s in the latter stages of the season
earning praise from development team boss Mark Robson.
Clayton is eager to continuing impressing in the new season
I got my U23s debut and started playing more games there
so I feel like I ended the season really strongly.
“Mark Robson had some nice things to say about me
Then you come back into training with the team
and it fills you with confidence to go and do what you’re good at
Regan Clayton believes West Ham United U18s got the result they deserved for their perseverance in Tuesday’s FA Youth Cup fourth round win over Burnley.
George Earthy’s first-time finish on 89 minutes proved to be the difference at the County Ground in an intense
in which both teams saw chances to the lead go begging
made a number of excellent stops to deny Callum Marshall
while Mason Terry had to be similarly alert in the West Ham goal.
In a match that saw each side trade spells of domination and chances
Clayton was eager to praise Tuesday’s opponents for their ability
The full-back feels having to come through such a tough game made victory
“That was probably one of the hardest games I’ve played in this season,” the full-back told whufc.com
“We watched the analysis before the game and we thought they were going to be
the sort of Burnley team that you would expect
But full credit to them because they played some good football as well
It was a really good game but our quality shone through in the end.
“Their goalkeeper pulled off some absolutely unreal saves
we could have been three or four goals up much earlier in the match but
Mason saved us a couple of times and Kaelan Casey cleared one off the line too
Credit to us as well because we didn’t let our heads go down
We kept knocking on the door and we got our reward for our perseverance.”
The young Hammers had already contended with logistical challenges prior to Tuesday’s fixture
with the originally scheduled fourth round outing being postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
time and venue allowed the game to go ahead three days later
but a battle awaited Kevin Keen’s Irons.
“We had to get through that last little bit of the game but we did our job and we’re into the next round
The real reward for progression is a spot in the round of 16 for the first time since the 2020/21 season
and Clayton is already eager anticipating the trip to face Stoke City.
With former Academy Manager Ricky Martin now working at the Potters
there are plenty of links between the two sides
and the defender is keen for the Irons to secure a place in the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2004/05 campaign
“We’re already excited for Stoke City,” Clayton added
“We’ve been playing well this season and we don’t want that to change
“We’ll be back working hard at Chadwell Heath
It's been a big week or so for Regan Clayton
The left-sided defender was on hand to provide an important assist against Brighton and Hove Albion U21s on Monday night
just five days after triumph in the FA Youth Cup quarter finals against Ipswich Town
In a 3-2 Premier League 2 victory at Rush Green Stadium
expertly sliding the ball through to Divin Mubama to give the Hammers a 2-0 advantage midway through the second half
The 18-year-old was delighted with the three points and his own performance.
“It’s been a really good week,” Clayton told whufc.com
“The Youth Cup win on Wednesday was fantastic but it was 120 minutes of really hard work
I’m glad that I was able to start again with the U21s and to get another win was really positive
It’s been a really successful week but I’m a bit tired now
“I’ll be ready to go again on Friday though
We’ve got another big game coming up against Manchester City and hopefully we've be able to cap off the week with another win.”
Whilst being delighted with the hard fought three points
Clayton admitted that the Hammers were not at their brilliant best throughout the 90 minutes
“It’s a massive three points for us,” the defender reflected
“We’ve been building momentum over the last couple of months and tonight’s win keeps our momentum going
It was crucial for us to win because we want to keep pushing up the table
“We made a slow start in the first half and we knew that we needed to be better in the second half
we were very good in possession and we scored some great goals
it was really disappointing to concede the two goals
but it’s something that we need to reflect on and put right.”
Mark Robson’s young Hammers have now won six of their last eight league matches after another impressive victory on Monday night
After a difficult start to the season for the young Irons
Clayton said that the U21s must continue to build upon their current momentum in order to continue their climb up the Premier League 2 table
“We started the season really poorly and we put ourselves into a position that we didn’t want to be in
We know that we need to put things right and to do that we need to keep fighting and keep winning
It was good to get another important victory against Brighton
“Every game that we play is so big and so important
We want to push ourselves and we want to improve as players
No matter who we play we want to put points on the board so we’ll look to push on again now.”
Regan Clayton was left with mixed emotions following West Ham United U21s’ 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers but feels the side can take a lot of pride in their performance.
The young Irons put on one of their best showings of the 2022/23 season so far with a mature effort away to Rovers
only for the home side to take a two-goal advantage in a 90-second spell in the second half through Harry Leonard and Dillan Markanday
The Hammers got back into the game when Clayton’s low cross was turned in by Callum Marshall on 83 minutes before the wing-back got on the scoresheet himself
powering in at the near post following an excellent team move
“One point from this game is good but I feel like we could have got all three,” Clayton told whufc.com
I had chances myself and Pierre Ekwah hit the bar
and we could have been out of sight in the first half.
“We did really well to get back into the game
The second goal we conceded was stupid and we were frustrated with the first one as well
but we did really well to get back into it and get something from the game
“We can take a lot of pride in the performance
we’ve picked up our form individually and as a team
It’s just about trying to get the results on top of that now
We just need that last little bit in the final third
which will come with a little more work on the training ground
We’re moving in the right direction for sure.”
With a switch to a three-man defence and wing-backs
Clayton has found himself playing a role he became accustomed to in the U18s last season
and the 17-year-old is relishing the responsibility that comes with his position in the team.
Clayton was thrilled to get a goal to cap his own performance after the assist for Marshall minutes before
He continued: “There’s more of a tactical element to this formation
I have to really think about when I go forward
I could have scored twice or maybe even three goals today
But it’s good to get that one and help the team to get something from the game
it was a good game and I’m happy with how I played.”
Having forced their way back into Saturday’s match
Clayton believes the U21s can take a number of positives into their coming contests in all competitions
“A result and performance like that properly builds confidence and self-belief
and we were able to get back into it.
“All the boys can take a lot from this and we can take this feeling into Tuesday’s game with Cheltenham Town
We know a win puts us through in the Papa Johns Trophy
and then we can continue to build on it in the league as well.”
Regan Clayton has called on West Ham United U21s to learn from Saturday’s Premier League 2 defeat to Everton.
Issac Price gave the Toffees the lead at Rush Green Stadium
while the Hammers saw Divin Mubama dismissed with a straight red card early in the second half
The home side showed immense character to draw level through Pierre Ekwah’s excellent strike on 76 minutes
but Everton retook the lead moments later through substitute Halid Djankpata
ensuring the development side left without a share of the spoils
Clayton told whufc.com: “I thought we started well in the first half
We changed the game plan a little bit and went a bit more direct
and I felt like that was going well for us
We carried on going but we lost Divin in the second half to his red card.
Pierre has got unreal quality and showed it with his goal
We have to stop letting these mistakes happen and fix them quickly.”
the full-back believes the young Hammers can take heart from their efforts in the second half
with the ten men forced to defend resolutely as they sought a way back into the match
He continued: “We stuck in it as a team and I think we showed real togetherness
We got back in it but just couldn’t hold out
We can be proud of our effort in the second half though.
“Everyone is disappointed in the changing room after this but
It was a good effort in the second half and we can learn from that.”
Mark Robson’s U21s was filled with a host of younger talent in Saturday’s match
with Clayton just one of five starters who featured regularly for the U18s last season.
The 17-year-old noted the step-up in quality at Premier League 2 level and Is enjoying the challenge of proving his ability in the U21s
“This is a real learning opportunity for us,” he added
“There are a long of younger players in our group at the moment and there is a real difference in physicality and quality between the U18s and the U21s
“The standard is another level and I feel like I’m learning every single day
It’s a real challenge at the moment but I like being challenged
I’m learning every day and I just want to get better.”

The Body Doctor’s sales and marketing director Sam Wymer said: “We’re excited to have a LifeMeter in our central hub in Huddersfield as there are only 12 in the world
“We hope the public will join us on May 1 for an exclusive day’s clinic to understand their carotenoid level and enhance their life.”
The Body Doctor MD Sue Grant (left) with Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Nosheen Dad
sales and marketing director Sam Wymer (second right) and Dr Hilary Jones
During the screening day the LifeMeter will measure carotenoid nutrients
the presence of which is a key indicator of someone’s wellbeing
Those with a low carotenoid level have been shown to have a higher frequency of eye strain and fatigue
poor contrast sensitivity and slower visual and cognitive processing
plus an increased chance of sunburn and brain fog
Studies have also shown that carotenoid concentrations are lower in people with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease
Sam added: “As we get older the macular pigment in our eyes can wear down and become thinner
“This reduces the protection our macula and retina have from oxidative stress which can lead to age-related macular degeneration
Those found to have low levels of carotenoids – lutein
meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin – can take food supplements
The Body Doctor recently became the UK distributor for the innovative MacuPrime and ReMind supplements
Sam said: “MacuPrime is the only eye supplement backed by over 15 clinical trials
ReMind is a first of its kind supplement scientifically formulated to support normal brain function
which has been shown to have positive effects on the quality of life of Alzheimer’s patients
Product expert Josh Nelson with the LifeMeter
“The LifeMeter uses the most advanced technology to measure carotenoid levels
with its accuracy scientifically proven in over 30 peer-reviewed studies
“The recently launched LifeMeter screening package is usually offered to stockists of the MacuPrime and ReMind supplements but we wanted to give something back to our local community to help celebrate the opening of The Body Doctor Eye Clinic
“This ties in nicely with our company ethos of offering products and services which boost health and wellness
The 20-minute appointments are for up to two people per session and will take place from 9.30am-4.30pm at The Body Doctor Ltd
People interested in taking part are asked to pre-book at https://thebodydoctorscreeningclinic.youcanbook.me/
Back in May 2022 we reported that the operator had been quietly building out their new fibre network
starting with the two neighbouring villages of Clayton West (population of c.2,700) and Scissett (population of c.1,300)
they’d already managed to reach 500 premises and held a goal to “connect 20,000 properties in Yorkshire by the end of 2023“
The operator now has live customer connections across three West Yorkshire villages of Clayton West
The incremental build in these areas is also continuing to add further properties on a monthly basis in all three locations
Meanwhile, the core network has been extended into South Yorkshire, where the operator recently secured investment from Project Gigabit (e.g. vouchers) to help them bring FTTP into the village of Hoylandswaine and town of Penistone
But growing FTTP coverage isn’t the only benefit from all this
Customers in their FTTP areas can expect to pay from £24 per month for an unlimited 80Mbps (30Mbps upload) package on a 12-month term (plus £50 for one-off activation)
which rises to £55 if you want their top 950Mbps (400Mbps upload) service with free activation
We actually meant to report all this a few weeks back

Two companies which chopped down 39 protected trees at Clayton West have been fined thousands of pounds and ordered to replace them
Kirklees Council secured the conviction of two companies and their directors for the felling of 39 protected trees and an area of saplings on the site of the former Earth’s Wood Caravan Park
were in contravention of a Kirklees Council Tree Preservation Order which is covered under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990
After initial not guilty pleas at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in March 2020
with Mr Anthony Barney ordered to pay £4,044 and Mrs Donna Barney an amount of £1,267
Premier Tree Care and Conservation of Manor House Farm
strategic director for growth and regeneration
said: “It is important to understand the value of the woodland and the impact removing tress can have on our environment
“The felling of these trees and saplings stripped away the woodland edge which adversely affected the woodland structure
wildlife habitats and public space that the Tree Preservation Order was in place to protect
We will work to ensure the landowner now fulfils their legal duty by replanting all 39 trees.”
Tree Preservation Orders are put into place by local authorities to protect specific trees
groups of trees or woodlands where the loss of them would have a significant negative impact on the local environment and its enjoyment by the public

JUMP aboard Yorkshire’s Great Little Steam trains at the Kirklees Light Railway in Clayton West
The light railway opened to the public in 1991 and runs for three and-a-half miles along the track-bed of an old Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway branch line
The branch line originally opened in 1879 to serve the local community but closed to the public in 1983 amid dwindling traffic
The journey from Clayton West to Shelley offers fine views of the Grade II listed Emley Transmitting Station and passes through the ancient Blacker Wood which is mentioned in the Domesday Book
The trip also includes passage through the Shelley Woodhouse Tunnel which is the longest tunnel on any 15-inch narrow gauge line in Great Britain
The railway is open at weekends and during school holidays from mid-February through to Christmas
allowing passengers to take a nostalgic ride behind the fleet of unique steam and diesel engines as they travel through the glorious countryside
Younger visitors can run wild on the adventure playgrounds at both stations – with a brand new playground at Clayton West station – or in the sandpit and bouncy castle at Shelley (weather permitting)
or you can simply relax with a cuppa and slice of cake in The Buffer Stop Café or the Shelley Tea Room
visitors are welcome to bring their own food and make a day of it
so passengers can even bring the family pooch along for a ride or a walk along one of the many surrounding footpaths
The railway is proud to host a full programme of special events throughout the year including Days Out with Thomas

Volunteer police officers launched a special operation to thwart thieves using the roads in rural Kirklees
prevented a potential drink-drive and recovered stolen property during a night time operation in the Kirklees Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) area on Friday December 1
The operation focused on communities in areas such as Denby Dale
Holmfirth and Meltham which have recently seen larger than usual numbers of burglaries
During the operation officers stopped 20 cars and asked drivers to account for why they were driving across residential areas late at night.
Officers also attended an ongoing report of a rural theft and recovered a motorcycle just 30 minutes after it was reported stolen
Police also conducted a number of high visibility patrols and engaged with a number of residents who were offered crime prevention advice
A person who was showing signs of getting into a vehicle to drive while potentially over the prescribed limit was also intercepted and advised to not drive home
said: “Volunteer Special Constables do an amazing job to aid people in their communities
and I thank our colleagues for staffing this operation
“Their efforts in the Kirklees Rural area will have reassured residents and sent a strong message to offenders that officers are out and about and working to disrupt them and prevent offending.“More operations of this kind are planned in the coming weeks and I would ask residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour they see in their communities
particularly at night.“Reports can be made to your local NPT via 101 or online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat and information can also be given anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”

Many of the rural villages around Huddersfield will be on the move when it comes to voting at the next General Election
A shake-up of MPs’ Parliamentary constituencies will mean big changes in parts of Kirklees as a result of boundary changes
which was entirely in Barry Sheerman’s Huddersfield constituency
Bog Green and Cockley Hill moving to a newly-created Spen Valley constituency
Crosland Moor & Netherton will move from Tory MP Jason McCartney’s Colne Valley constituency to Huddersfield
the Dewsbury constituency of Tory Mark Eastwood – which included the Kirkburton ward – is being scrapped completely and Kirkburton is being split between a new Dewsbury & Batley constituency and a newly-created Wakefield West & Denby Dale seat
Flockton and Grange Moor will join Dewsbury & Batley while Kirkburton
Clayton West and Emley will become part of Wakefield West & Denby Dale
has been selected by the Conservatives to fight the new Wakefield West & Denby Dale seat
The next General Election is expected to be some time in 2024

Harpeet Uppal is pictured in St George’s Square
It will be replaced by the Dewsbury & Batley seat and Spen Valley
Mr McCartney has been re-selected to contest Colne Valley while Labour have chosen Kirklees Council Cabinet member Clr Paul Davies as their candidate
Mr Sheerman is standing down at the next General Election after more than 40 years as the town’s MP
Mr Sheerman revealed he had undergone surgery to remove a kidney
He said all had gone well but he was taking time away from Parliament
Former Kirklees councillor Harpreet Uppal has been selected as the Labour candidate to replace Mr Sheerman
There are currently 650 MPs in Parliament and constituencies are reviewed periodically by the independent Boundary Commission to take into account population changes and ensure there are a similar number of voters in each constituency
The changes are said to be about fairness so that MPs have broadly similar numbers of constituents
Currently Colne Valley has around 86,000 constituents while Huddersfield has 66,000
The proposed changes would reduce Colne Valley to 71,000 while Huddersfield would increase to 76,000
How the new Parliamentary boundary will carve up the Dalton ward
The area inside the blue boundary line is within the new Spen Valley constituency
The area above the blue line shows Grange Moor and Flockton in the new Dewsbury & Batley constituency
Mr Eastwood said the Boundary Commission was due to present its final report to the Speaker of the House of Commons in July when the new constituencies would be formally adopted
He said representations had been made to the Boundary Commission for the whole of the Kirkburton ward to be moved to Wakefield West & Denby Dale and not be split up
“Representations can be made by the political parties and there may be some minor tweaks,” he said
“I am quite sad that the Dewsbury seat will be no more but hope to continue to be Member of Parliament for the people of Kirkburton.”
The proposals for the new-look Kirklees constituencies are:

Head of talkSPORT and Hammers Season Ticket Holder Lee Clayton will be a regular contributor to the Official Programme and whufc.com throughout the season..
Every West Ham supporter should recognise the work of David Cross
Readers of a certain age will know what I mean..
Second Division title winner and a scorer of four goals in a single game twice
In one short of 600 league games across England and the United States
Cross scored 233 goals and his most prosperous time in front of goal was in the Claret and Blue of West Ham
He also scored the only West Ham hat-trick in European history
which helped start my love a air with radio that continues today
West Ham versus Castilla in the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1980/81 saw our heroes trailing 3-1 from the first leg in Madrid
“There was also a bit of bother in the first game with our fans and a discussion that we might be thrown out of the competition altogether
or at least forced to play the second leg in a neutral city
“But we got the go-ahead to play at our stadium
There was no television coverage of the tie and we could only imagine the scenes as the voices of the players echoed around the near-empty stadium
That night on BBC Radio 2 the commentators gave a masterclass
Billy Bonds and the rampaging David Cross saw o the Spanish invaders as West Ham marched through 6-4 on aggregate
This European adventure would end with a 4-2 aggregate loss to Dinamo Tbilisi in the quarter finals
before leaving for Manchester City in the summer of 1982 – a move he admits ‘did not work out’
he had scored 33 times as West Ham won promotion in 1980/81
revealing that he had a financial incentive to keep on hitting the back of the net
He recalls: “I had never scored more than 20 goals in a season
I would come back fitter than most having worked hard in the summer and start well
He offered me £5 for every goal I scored past 20
I scored 29 goals and he’d had to cough up
We then played at Grimsby to win promotion [on 11 April 1981]
“He had to ask one of the directors for the money because John didn’t have enough with him
I split a fiver each between the lads who set up my chances.”

Clayton West Under 15s won the Romida Hills Supplies Cup in a thriller
Opponents Barkisland needed three to win off the last three balls of the final at Back Lane – the over being bowled by Tom Radley – but their last pair suffered a dramatic run out
It left Barkisland 96 all out in 39.4 overs of the 40-over showpiece
chasing a Clayton West total of 99 in the Sellers Huddersfield Junior League event
Joe Young of Clayton West was voted man-of-the-match by umpires Nigel Brook and Gary Rank for his figures of three for 12 in eight overs and a catch
It was a close-run thing because Barkisland’s Sam Senior had a triple-wicket maiden after the hosts had made a rapid start

Cold West begins as a story of loss and resolve
A weird west story set within a dying wasteland
Clayton Snyder’s Cold West fires on all cylinders
As a former bounty hunter
He traded his guns for a plow and a family
His farm failing and having no cash to feed his two boys
Wil is left with little choice but to take another contract
He’ll learn he never should have returned to the fold
“What will they say about me when I’m gone
And a fed-up man’s got a lot of moral leeway.”
We are given flashbacks of Wil and Ginny’s courtship
Now her death threatens to corrupt him beyond salvation
Clayton Snyder doesn’t confine Cold West to a tragic love story
Wil Cutter’s quiet reflection on his life and his cruel justifications for his actions are harrowing
His perspective is damning but offers an intelligent perception about his world
Lesser concerns didn’t trouble me on that path
that had never been the heaviest weight on my shoulders.”
The Waste in Cold West harbors strange magic. Wil Cutter is a Null, someone who can create tunnels through the Empyrean and open gates to other dimensions. This magic reminds me as a cross between The Misery from The Raven’s Mark and the Warrens in Malazan
Weird West is one of my favorite subgenres. Given this subgenre’s hybrid nature, no two stories are very similar. Everything from HBO’s West World to Mad Max, Papa Lucy and the Boneman to The Songs of Sefate
they all spin their own unique take on western stories
I love seeing the typical West landscape transform into extraordinary nightmare
Cold West is a tribute to fantastical worldbuilding
Cold West is an action-packed fusion of horror
The waste territory in Clayton Snyder’s novel is delightfully hellish
I hope Clayton Snyder returns to this world

Drakes League cricketers Martin Green and Stuart Rank have been honoured with the award of the Lady Sykes Candlesticks
It’s the top accolade for current players in the Huddersfield District League
given for outstanding service to their clubs and the game in general
Green has been a stalwart of Honley’s outstanding successes of the past decade
while Rank has been at the forefront of all that Clayton West have achieved
it completes a family double as his father
Martin has been a key player for Honley since 1988
He was a reliable opening bowler in the early part of his career
but after a four-year stint at Broad Oak (from 1996-99) he has developed into a devastating batsman
The best example of that was in the controversial and wet end to the 2006 Sykes Cup final
Honley were well behind the rate when chasing Skelmanthorpe’s 186-8 at Hullen Edge
Green blasted 58 off 46 deliveries (six fours and one six) to get his side home with eight deliveries to spare
Green was a feature of the Honley side which won six Byrom Shields in seven seasons and also lifted the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy
he was in the Honley second XI beaten in a thrilling Fired Up Paddock Shield final by Barkisland
His nomination paper concluded: “Martin continues to score quick runs and is highly respected by his peers.”
playing for Clayton West’s Under 17s when he was only 11 years old
He led their junior team to three consecutive Junior titles
two Walker Cup wins (now the Oldfield Trophy) and three Armitage Cup victories (the junior competition for the Huddersfield Central League)
With the exception of a brief stint as second XI captain in 2014
Rank has played the last 32 years entirely in the club’s first team
racking up an estimated 17,000 runs and 700-plus wicketkeeping victims
In the days of a strong Huddersfield Central League
he was undoubtedly one of the stand-out players
helping Clayton West to 10 League titles in a 14-year period
He has kept wicket on only the odd occasion over the last three years
but before that was rated among the very best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the Drakes sections
He scored a double hundred with Clayton West
and initially broke the 50-over batting record in 2001
and he then grabbed a quickfire century when the team set the current League 50-over best of 454-4 in 2010 against Hall Bower
Despite countless offers from many clubs over the years
Rank has always remained loyal to the Back Lane club
While his playing record speaks for itself
he has served on the club committee for 25 years
being League representative for the last 10
He managed and coached the juniors for eight years and
being the driving force behind the club’s new scoreboard
His nomination citation said: “Well respected by opponents and officials
he has been an inspiration to the next generation of the club’s cricketers and is a hugely popular figure at the club.”
Head of talkSPORT and Season Ticket Holder Lee Clayton shares his thoughts on all things Claret and Blue..
I would have failed the spelling test at least twice
When Tony Cottee suffered one in July it wiped him off our TV screens and kept him away from the match day programme
He's back now and complaining that he has only had one page in the Official Programme
although this injustice was rectified against Manchester United on Sunday! But what did he ever do for West Ham
It's actually reassuring to hear him complaining – and he's only mentioned it twice (italics) in the last two (italics) conversations – after what he has been through and it was good to hear him on talkSPORT recently and explaining for the first time what happened
he was struck down by a severe headache in a central London hotel and called his Sky Sports colleague Phil Thompson for help
A doctor was called and TC was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment which
was successful and he is now on his way back to full health
I hosted a show on talkSPORT almost 15 years ago and remember a female caller who rang early one morning to explain seductively on live radio how to bite each end of a Cadbury’s Chocolate Finger and drink tea through it
This is not the right place to repeat the full conversation
Favourite biscuits for dunking is still a popular subject (Malted Milk
in case you are interested) and another phone-in favourite is international football and players being picked for their country
Ron Greenwood moved from being West Ham manager to England manager and Trevor Brooking was a regular in the national team midfield in the No10 shirt
even when West Ham were relegated to the Second Division
Alvin Martin and Alan Devonshire played too
it is remarkable that Billy Bonds never featured and more recently I’ve even claimed internationals Jermain Defoe
Paul Ince and Frank Lampard beyond their West Ham days
What a phone-in tells you is that this view is not widely shared around the country
They claim that Michael Owen preferred England to Liverpool
Owen was an England marketing machine and deals with this issue in his new autobiography
I mention this as a topical subject because Declan Rice’s progress into the England team has to be viewed as a sign of progress for the player and the club
he will enjoy better games than the 5-3 victory against Kosovo when he received plenty of attention from the television pundits
But he was back to his best against Aston Villa and Manchester United and let’s remember he is only 20 and still learning the game
the better for everyone with thus club in their heart
How fabulous was Felipe Anderson against Norwich recently
dancing around three tackles and including two nutmegs that should have been a feature on Match of the Day
Then it should have been a feature on Match of the Day 2
a friend as well as an excellent host and broadcaster. “If he had done that and had been a centre-half
then we might have featured it,” he replied
Norwich have a very talented young right-back
It was pure Felipe Anderson showmanship with plenty of end product and high-speed breakaway football; just the sort the manager here wants.
With Sky’s splendid broadcasting team here today for the live game

it makes you wonder how good he would have been without the terrible injuries
He’s a unique player in the modern rush-and-thunder way of playing in the Premier League
There was an outpouring of emotion from within the club when he scored in the last home game

Clayton, 17, signed his first professional contract in the summer [15 June] and is yet to make his first team debut
The left-back was on the bench during the Hammers’ 3-1 win over FCSB in their opening group stage game of the Conference League
Football London revealed [5 October] that David Moyes has had a look at the youngster in training with Maxwel Cornet currently out after picking up a calf injury in the Hammers’ 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday evening [1 October]
Moyes does need to start giving some of his younger players more of an opportunity
Sonny Perkins wasn’t given much of a chance by the West Ham boss and has since gone on to Leeds United where he has proved to be a big hit
Harrison Ashby is another player whose contract situation has come under the spotlight of late. According to Six Foot Two [17 September], the club are still trying to tie the 20-year-old down to a new deal
with Leeds and Newcastle United vying for his services
By giving the likes of Clayton and Ashby first-team chances
it will increase the club’s chances of keeping their youth talent at the London Stadium
instead of them being pinched by their Premier League rivals
The Irons’ participation in the Conference League is the perfect chance for Moyes to give some of his youngsters and fringe players more minutes
The Hammers are currently top of their group and a win this evening will put them in a strong position to win their group
Moyes would be foolish not to give more youngsters such as Clayton an opportunity to start from the outset in their remaining group stage fixtures
THE girlfriend of a man accused of murdering his former gay lover has told a jury of coded messages about the killing
Dawn Mallinson told a court how David Large talked in code using her Facebook account in the lead-up to the fatal shooting of Christopher Hartley (pictured) at Clayton West
Care home administrator Ms Mallinson began seeing 39-year-old Large after getting to know him through the social networking site in 2008
but she said she was “devastated” when he told her in July last year that their relationship was over
She told a murder trial jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday that she then discovered that Large’s business partner Christopher Hartley was “infatuated” with her boyfriend and that he was the one stopping them being together
Miss Mallinson said she was heartbroken when Large told her the relationship was over
but when she spoke to mutual friend Simon Mullen he explained that Large was sick to death of Mr Hartley’s “dominant and bossy” behaviour and he still wanted to be with her
“’He told me that Chris was a gay man and Dave wasn’t,” said Miss Mallinson
“Were you going to accept that?” asked prosecutor Alistair MacDonald QC
Because I was so in love with Dave and this man was stopping us seeing each other effectively,” she replied
later told her that he was going to have Mr Hartley “taken care of”
She said she thought he might get a good beating or something like that
but Large later said he was going to arrange for Mr Hartley to meet someone and be shot
“He said he was going to arrange for him to go to meet someone in a lay-by
I think it was at 10 o’clock at night.” said Miss Mallinson
“Someone was going to meet him and exchange some drugs so it would look like a drugs deal gone wrong.”
“I didn’t think it were going to happen,” said Miss Mallinson
She alleged that Large later told her about the sort of gun that would be used and asked for her Facebook password so he could talk to Mullen without it appearing his own account
Miss Mallinson said she was a bit paranoid about what they were plotting so she tried to log on at the same time and saw parts of the conversation
She alleged that there was some reference to “a door and a hinge” and Large later told her that he had been talking in code with Mullen and it referred to a gun and bullets
She said Large again explained that Mr Hartley was going to be shot at night in a lay-by
“I just kept telling him I don’t want to know because I didn’t think it were going to happen.”
was shot dead on a secluded country road near Clayton West last September
Police found some drugs close to his body and when a bungalow in the grounds of his Tingley home was searched officers discovered a drug-making factory
The prosecution allege that Large and his 39-year-old friend Mullen
Mullen is alleged to have been the gunman who shot Mr Hartley in the head and chest
said Large told her that the killer would be someone that Mullen knew or maybe someone that a friend of Mullen knew
Large and Mullen have both denied the murder allegation

For the yearlong project that included a full gut renovation of Clayton’s Manhattan apartment
the longtime friends began by figuring out the architectural elements that were important to highlight and restore
how Clayton imagined using the space and the atmospheric quality he wished to achieve,” says Gabriela
“A notable element was the decision to create a more traditional progression of rooms instead of an ample loft space
thereby adding intimacy amidst the 11-foot ceilings.”
“The jewel-box kitchen, which showcases floor-to-ceiling oak cabinetry and is framed by steel casement doors,” says Gabriela. “This achieves the open-and-closed kitchen concept seamlessly.” The pendant is by Apparatus Studio, and the vintage table is from City Foundry
"The details of this space, such as the exposed hinges, drainboard carved into the marble counters, Lacanche range

Gabriela thinks the sight line between the master bedroom and bathroom is a great element to the space. “When facing the bed, you see gorgeous views of the West Village and Hudson River on the right and an exquisite slab of Calacatta Nero in the master shower to the left,” she says
“I purchased two slabs of marble from Italy well before we started construction
and these served as the first design dominos to fall for the entire apartment,” says Clayton
“The shower became a real moment for the apartment
