while the USPCA say they are deeply concerned
Louise Hunter has lived in the estate for roughly 20 years; her cats Bonnie and Duchess
as well as two others belonging to neighbours
went missing over a two week period in November
She said the number of cats missing within the same area has since increased to around 16
One of Rachel McConnell's cats is also missing
she says losing them is "like losing a member of your family"
She added: "We've had cats all our lives
we've had cats that have been knocked over
we've had cats that have been mauled by wild animals out in the country
Louise says the current situation have shaken the community: "We have walked around and shown you the proximity of where these cats are
So it just got us feeling a wee bit uneasy
I know people who have bought ring doorbells
These people are going to an unnecessary expense to feel safe in a community that was extremely safe."
In a statement the PSNI said: "Police are aware of concerns circulating online of a number of cats going missing in the Westbury area of Cookstown
the number being discussed is not reflective of reports made to police
"Anyone with any concerns regarding any connected criminality or who has information not shared with police
Meanwhile the USPCA said: "The USPCA is deeply concerned by reports of cats disappearing in Cookstown
The targeting and potential harm of family pets is both distressing and unacceptable
Intentional cruelty to animals is a criminal offence and stronger penalties are needed to reflect the seriousness of such acts
"We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the PSNI by phoning 101
No animal should suffer and no pet owner should have to fear for their pet’s safety."

with no timed qualifying because of the challenging conditions
Dunlop was reported to have left the course after completing his compulsory handful of laps but the Ballymoney man is now clear to compete today
when much better weather is forecast for the first Irish road race of the year
He travelled back to Northern Ireland after completing a two-day British Superbike test at Oulton Park on his BMW and Ducati machines

which is an ex-Ten Kate World Supersport machine

Roads will be closed from 7am until approximately 7:30pm for racing
Northern Ireland man Michael Laverty’s new road racing team was officially announced yesterday
a former British Supersport champion and BSB race winner

including the FIM Junior GP Championship and British Talent Cup
felt the time was right to break into road racing for the first time
with his team also due to compete at the North West 200
“The first year will be challenging and I’d say we have modest ambitions for 2025
but we know what both riders are capable of and they’re both very driven,” Laverty said
“The long-term plan is to establish the team amongst the front runners for many years to come – the TT is a global show and to get to be part of that is something special.”

Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has confirmed that the Cookstown Bypass Scheme will be subject of a Public Inquiry which will commence on Tuesday 22 October 2024
“The proposed A29 Cookstown Bypass is of strategic importance to the town and its surrounding area as it aims to alleviate traffic congestion
reduce journey times and improve road safety and the town centre environment
“As with all major road schemes a number of statutory processes must be completed
my Department held a public consultation on the draft Statutory Orders for the scheme and during this a number of representations were received
“I am committed to working with the local community
businesses and all those impacted to ensure that all issues are appropriately discussed and considered
I have therefore agreed to hold an independent Public Inquiry
This will be held at the Glenavon Hotel in Cookstown
starting at 10am on Tuesday 22 October and I would encourage all interested parties to attend
“Public Inquiries are a standard procedure in major infrastructure schemes and following the completion of the Inquiry and the receipt of the final report my Department will give full consideration to any recommendations made before any decision is made to move forward with construction.”
