A Fife personal trainer has opened a 24-hour women-only gym in Cowdenbeath
unveiled Elite Female Fitness in a former boxing gym on the town’s High Street last week
She wants to help women who may be “worried and intimidated” to feel confident in the gym
who is originally from Dalgety Bay and now lives in Hill of Beath
has also ensured the 24-hour gym is safe for women to visit when they can
Parisa told The Courier: “I work with clients who are worried and intimidated about going to the gym and are not confident
“Where we are there is nothing that offers anything for women to feel confident with a community around them
“I am a personal trainer and have been working with clients for four or five years
“I first went to see the unit last year and then saw it was still available and went back and thought I will just take the chance
“It gives me a space to have my clients and I know how hard it is for women to feel safe and confident in the gym
“I have also got a little boy and I am a single mum so that is challenging
this means I have got the freedom to work where I want and when I want.”
Parisa is running the gym on her own so it will be unmanned at times
She is also limiting Elite Female Fitness memberships to 100 spaces at £35 per month so the gym is never too crowded
Parisa said: “I will be here most of the time but overnight it will be monitored by CCTV
“I will also be offering classes in the gym but not yet; classes will come as an addition
“I did not expect to get the response I have
“We only have a few membership places left and I have been inundated with messages
“I know I have been that girl in the past when I was younger who struggled to go to the gym and struggled with confidence
“I have listened to people over the years being in this industry and hearing what their struggles are and thought of all of that when planning this
I wanted it to be all black with neon signs
The Courier has previously looked at six women-only gyms in Dundee, Perth, Angus and Fife
Fife Council is looking for people to have their say on the new play park design and equipment for Cowdenbeath Public Park play area
Fife Council Spokesperson for Communities and Leisure
said: “Play is important for children’s health and wellbeing
and play parks provide important opportunities for outdoor play
“We’re planning to refurbish Cowdenbeath Public Park play area and want to make sure it’s suitable and accessible to everyone who may use it
“We’re currently carrying out a consultation where the community can let us know their thoughts on the design and the play equipment that they would like to see included as part of it
“I’d encourage as many people as possible to take part and have their say by either filling in a short survey at https://haveyoursay.fife.gov.uk/communities/cowdenbeath-public-park-play-area/ or by calling 03451 55 55 55 ext 47 65 76 to request a form.”
The deadline to have your say is Wednesday 30 April 2025
Hearts B had to settle for a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Cowdenbeath at Central Park on Saturday afternoon
Goals from Taylor Hogarth and Dom Plank had the Wee Jambos 2-1 up at half-time
before adding a third soon after through Connor Dow
Cowdenbeath fought back late on to equalise through Jake Sutherland
Angus Beith made two changes from the 4-1 victory over Gretna 2008 last Friday night
with Mackenzie Ross and Ryan Duncan dropping to the bench
Cowdenbeath looked threatening in the opening exchanges
Jake Sutherland picked the ball up at the edge of the Hearts box
he had a pop on his right foot which was a comfortable take for goalkeeper Lyndon Tas
The Blue Brazil made their early pressure count inside five minutes
and the ball was whipped into the box from the right
and Jamie Docherty scored a fantastic overhead kick to make it 1-0
Following a mix-up at the back for Cowdenbeath
goalkeeper Blair spilled it at the edge of the box
as the Jam Tarts enjoyed a good spell of possession
Aiden Haddow did brilliantly to win the ball at the left corner flag
he played it into Stevenson just inside the penalty area
His strike was right at goalkeeper Blair and the hosts cleared it from danger
Docherty sent in a dangerous cross to the front post which found Cameron who was left free
He hit a strike first time but it blazed over the crossbar
The Wee Jambos took the lead before the break
Skipper Kenzi Nair lofted the ball forward from a deep free kick
Blair misjudged it and it looped over his head
Dom Plank nipped in behind and scored into an empty net for 2-1
Hearts continued their good work in the second half
and referee Robert Bowie pointed to the spot
but Dow made no mistake with the follow up and scored into the bottom left corner for 3-1
Jack Fisher hit a powerful strike for the hosts at the edge of the box
which forced a fantastic low save from Lyndon Tas
Dom Plank continued to cause problems down the left wing
he drove forward and fired it across to Mackenzie Ross
His strike took a wicked deflection and hit the post
and went out for a Hearts corner which was defended well
Cowdenbeath pulled a goal back in the 76th minute
The Jambos were dispossessed at the right corner flag
the ball was whipped in dangerously which found Sutherland in the box
who slotted past Tas into the bottom right corner
the ball was fizzed across the face of goal and Sutherland scored from close range
The hosts could’ve nicked it right at the death
His strike from a few yards out sailed over the bar in the end
Hearts B were left frustrated to lose their second goal advantage late on
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website after full-time
we didn’t deal with the direct and second balls
We started the game quite flat and they obviously got the goal with a really good finish and and then we managed to flip the momentum and put them under pressure with balls in behind and winning more second balls
we probably got gifted the two goals that we got in the first half through goalkeeping errors
but it came from us starting to put them under pressure and playing in the right areas
“We go 3-1 up in the second half and Connor does brilliantly to win the penalty and then scores the rebound
The manager says he was disappointed that Hearts lost their two goal advantage
“We just didn't manage that last part of the game well enough in terms of one of first and second contacts and I’m gutted that they were allowed to score two
“We're pushing the boys and we're putting more of an onus on winning and finding a way to win
“We need to keep understanding and realising how we deal with the direct play together and finding a way to win these final two games.”

Berwick and Cowdenbeath drew 0-0 in a tense Lowland League clash at Shielfield Park
Liam Buchanan had the best chance of the game for the Gers
as his effort was brilliantly headed off the line by Cowdenbeath’s Sam Newman
The visitors too had their chances from several corners with a draw deemed a fair reflection of the game
The visitors began the game on top as Jamie Docherty led the counter-attack
He managed to skip past the challenge of Ben McCrystal before unleashing a shot that was relatively comfortable for Antell to deal with
Cowdenbeath continued their early dominance as Danny Swanson found Zeke Cameron on the left-hand side
His first time cross was begging for a finish but Jake Sutherland could only head over from six yards out
Moments later a Cowdenbeath inswinging corner by Newman was met by Greig Spence but McCrystal’s last-gasp goal-line clearance prevented the visitors taking a deserved lead
The Dream Team grew into the game midway through the first half with their first real chance coming from a corner of their own
MacKenzie’s delivery after an initial short corner routine fell nicely to Lewis Barr but his swiped shot was deflected just wide
The resulting corner nearly saw Barr on the scoresheet again as Ben Scarborough managed to cut inside and his shot on goal was deflected off the Berwick midfield maestro but only into the hands of Ruaridh Lynch
All the big chances seemed to be from corner kicks as Newman’s latest delivery for the Blue Brazil was met three yards out by Paul McLean
but he somehow saw his header fly over in a chance that looked easier to score than miss
Berwick nearly grabbed the lead that may have gone against the run of play
Kyle Somers played the ball back to MacKenzie
His first-time cross into the box was flicked towards goal by Barr but an ironic moment saw the crossbar prevent Barr from opening the scoring as Cowdenbeath managed to clear
The second half began with a terrific chance for the Gers
Jamie Watson managed to play the ball into Buchanan just inside the box
He managed to dummy the defender before unleashing a shot that beat Lynch but was miraculously headed off the line by Newman to prevent Berwick from taking the lead
the game gained a scrappy look and became a bit tense with the first goal looking likely to be the winning one
Somers managed to get down the byline as he drove towards the Cowdenbeath goal
his cutback to Buchanan was blocked at the last second by player-manager Dougie Hill to keep the score goalless
Berwick manager Kevin Haynes threw on Niall Kemp
Rayan Mohammed and Jonny Devers as the Dream Team looked to grab a crucial win
neither team could put together anymore clear-cut opportunities as the game ended 0-0
The drama spilled over at full-time as Cowdenbeath defender Jack Denham was shown a straight red card after a mass scuffle after the final whistle blew
The point sees Berwick move above Cumbernauld Colts into 15th place
The Gers have a midweek friendly at home to Hibernian B on Wednesday night
before facing Celtic B in another Lowland League clash at Shielfield Park next Saturday

The Hibernian Development Squad drew 3-3 with Cowdenbeath in their latest outing
As Darren McGregor’s youngsters waited for the split U18 fixtures
they have been competing against a number of different sides to provide them with new experiences and to aid their development
The latest was against Cowdenbeath who compete in the Lowland League
and it turned into a thoroughly entertaining game
It was the hosts who took the lead six minutes into the match from the second phase of a corner
but Cowdenbeath kept the attack alive with the ball being tapped in at the back post
Fresh off a 3-1 victory over Berwick Rangers
conceding the opening goal didn’t deter our youngsters who grew into the game and played some excellent football at times.
Hibs saw the rewards from that good football
Jamie McMurdo was slipped through the back-line and tried to beat the ‘keeper with an audacious chip
The Cowdenbeath ‘keeper managed to keep it out before getting down brilliantly to stop the rebound
with McMurdo firing into the roof of the net
Hibs had a chance to take the lead as Jamie McMurdo was brought down in the penalty area as he ran through one-on-one
Dean Cleland then stepped up to take the spot kick
but made no mistake from the rebound.
Cowdenbeath equalised shortly after though
as their striker squeezed the ball under Ryan Mallon
The hosts then re-took the lead three minutes later
Our youngsters struggled to clear their lines after a cross from the left hand-side
before a Cowdenbeath striker fired home from close range
Hibs went straight up the other end to equalise however as Jamie McMurdo scored his second of the game
The ball fell kindly to Cleland inside the area
as he found space and curled a terrific effort towards goal
The rebound then fell to McMurdo who made no mistake
in what was a really competitive match for our youngsters
Our Under-18s will now return to CAS U18 Elite League action on Friday for their split fixtures
McGregor’s side are currently second in the CAS U18 Elite League
Members of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee have contributed £35,000 from the area budget to help enable the next stage of the Cowdenbeath Town House redevelopment project
This funding will support the development of detailed plans required to secure planning permission
ensuring all preliminary work is completed to unlock further potential funding
This marks a significant step towards restoring and repurposing the historic Town House for community use
Convenor of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee
said:"This is an exciting step forward in the transformation of Cowdenbeath Town House
The funding will allow BRAG Enterprises to move ahead with essential planning work
ensuring this much-loved building can be brought back into use for the benefit of the community
We’re committed to supporting initiatives that preserve our local heritage while creating opportunities for future generations."
BRAG Enterprises will now progress with developing plans
working closely with stakeholders to ensure the project meets the needs of the local community
Hearts B were left frustrated on Friday night as they were held to a goalless draw by a resolute Cowdenbeath side at Ainslie Park
Angus Beith made four changes from the weekend defeat to Albion Rovers as Jamie MacDonald
James Wilson and Dom Plank all came into the starting 11
The Wee Jambos were looking for a response following a disappointing afternoon in Coatbridge on Saturday and they started on the front foot
dictating the tempo and creating the majority of the early openings
Much of the men in maroon’s joy was coming through the pace and directness of Plank and it was the winger who had the first chance of the night
It was one-way traffic in the first half with Cowden struggling to live with Plank
who fired his next effort straight down the throat of stopper Ruaridh Lynch
before heading just wide from the resulting corner
For all the men in maroon’s dominance however
they hadn’t found the net as the clock ticked closer to half-time
More positive running from Plank saw the Jambos break upfield and after he laid the ball into the path of Callum Sandilands
after chopping back inside onto his left foot
The best chance of the half turned out to be the final opening before the break
A beautifully weighted ball over the top from Kai Smutek picked out Gregor Crookston
The full back got to the ball before Lynch and while he was subsequently wiped out by the Cowden stopper
his effort was put behind for a corner as Hearts’ penalty claims were waved away
The Blue Brazil have been somewhat of a bogey team during the men in maroon’s time in the Lowland League and they were once again proving a difficult nut to crack as the game passed the hour mark
While the visitors’ main threats were coming from set plays
the Wee Jambos almost opened the scoring through one of their own as Kai Smutek rose highest in the middle
but it was a brilliant instinct stop from Lynch
to raise a strong hand and keep his header out
As much as the men in maroon had dominated the game
substitute goalkeeper Jack Lyon had to be on his toes to keep out Samuel Newman
after the defender was played clean through on goal on 68 minutes
One final chance arrived in stoppage time for Hearts to snatch all three points
Substitue Bobby McLuckie found space on the left wing
and after a great touch to bring the ball under his spell
he fired his shot into the side netting to round off a frustrating evening
Learners from the Cowdenbeath "Step In" course have gone above and beyond
raising an incredible £1170 for two meaningful causes: the Department of Additional Support at Lochgelly High School and Teenage Cancer Trust
with heartfelt thanks extended to everyone who supported their efforts
delivered in partnership by Fife Council’s Communities and Neighbourhoods team and Fife College aims to help adults re-engage with learning
But this group of learners took it a step further by embarking on a community project that not only helped them grow but also gave back to the community
The learners organised a festive coffee morning at the Maxwell Centre
Their hard work and creativity were matched by the generosity of local businesses
The Cowdenbeath Chatty Choir even stopped by to spread some festive cheer with Christmas songs
An impressive total of £1170 was raised and divided equally
with £585 going to Teenage Cancer Trust and £585 to Lochgelly High School’s Department of Additional Support
with several members having direct connections to both
Emma Fyfe from the council's Communities and Neighbourhoods team and Linda O’Hare from Fife College
the group of adult learners worked so hard throughout and the combination of the personal development session such as '5 ways to well being' and courses like food hygiene and first aid
as well as SQA qualifications gave the learners a whole range of skills. The determination
commitment and passion for the community project was outstanding and the coffee morning was a great way to bring the community together whilst raising funds. It’s been a privilege to support such a hardworking group and we are looking forward to the learner’s celebration in January 2025
A massive well done to all our group members
“This is what Cowdenbeath is all about—community spirit
The learners have done something truly special here
and I’m so proud of what they’ve achieved
A huge congratulations to everyone involved.”
Principal Teacher at Lochgelly High School also expressed their gratitude. He said: “We are incredibly thankful for this generous donation
Our Department of Additional Support is a vital community within the school
supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs. This donation will help us provide the resources and opportunities needed to ensure our pupils reach their potential and leave school with a sense of achievement and self-worth. We’re grateful to the learners for their hard work and to the community for their support.”
The Step In course has long been a stepping stone for adults across Fife
offering personal development opportunities
it was also a chance to leave a lasting impact on their community
