A man has been jailed for two burglaries following two separate incidents in Carlisle
was sentenced to 29 months in prison today (25 July) at Carlisle Crown Court for two counts of burglary and one count of racially aggravated public order
The court heard that during the early hours of 31 January Queen broke into the Co Op Store in Denton Holme
before stealing several bottles of alcohol and making off on a red bike
During another incident on Tuesday 30 April 2024 residents at a property on Warwick Road
returned to the address and found a window open and clothes and other items stolen from inside the property
Queen was seen on CCTV walking toward the incident address
returning around 10 minutes later carrying a blue duffle bag
similar to the one taken during the incident
Officers attended Queen’s address and inside the property located items matching the description of the stolen items from the Warwick Road address
While in custody committed a racially aggravated offence directed to an officer
Detective Constable Ashleigh Hunter said: “Queen is a repeat offender with a clear disregard for the law
“This sentencing should send a strong message to anyone considering getting involved in such crime that they could end up facing time in prison
“Cumbria Police takes all reports of burglary extremely seriously and is committed to working with communities to bring offenders to justice.”
The offences were investigated under Operation Themis – Cumbria Constabulary’s response to and focus on burglaries.

constructed by Story Contracting for Cumbria County Council
Project works started back in January and were completed over the weekend with the removal of the old time-expired bridge during a night shift
County Council Leader Stewart Young and Denton Holme City Councillor Hugh McDevitt cut the blue ribbon and pupils from the local Robert Ferguson Primary School then cycled over the bridge (wearing their STORY high vis vests!) to mark the official opening
Councillor Stewart Young said: “The new bridge looks fantastic and offers full access for pedestrians
Residents and councillors have been campaigning for this improvement for many years
so this is a real red letter day for the local community
I’m absolutely delighted we now have a bridge that’s fit for purpose and will make it much easier for people to get around and travel to work and school
“I am particularly pleased that the main contractor
was able to use so many of our excellent local businesses who have all contributed to this exciting scheme
The new bridge will be a testimony to their skill and dedication for many years to come.”
A crowd of locals shared their positive thoughts on their new bridge:
“It’s fantastic because it means you can cycle to Dalston or Carlisle without getting off your bikes after years of struggling on steep steps
You did not go after dark!” Resident of Currock
The new bridge vastly improves both the accessibility and scenery of the area

The new bridge is being funded with national money given by the Department for Transport to Cumbria
The Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership has recognised Currock Bridge as one of the county’s priority transport projects
step-free route that allows for more inclusive access between the two communities
The bridge will replace an existing footbridge which is part of a pedestrian route over the railway that links Lund Crescent with Boustead’s Grassing. The new structure is set to be located approximately 125m south of the existing bridge and wiall feature widened pathways
“This new cycleway scheme has been a long time in the making and this is a huge step towards the plans coming to fruition
The current structure is outdated and inaccessible to many
a new bridge will vastly improve the cycle and access links between two key Carlisle communities.”
“This will be hugely beneficial to the people of Denton Holme and is a key route for many
As well as allowing easier and safer access to Currock
it will visually be much more pleasing than the current structure
It opens up many places and pleasures to residents in both communities.”
