The children have also received life-saving road safety advice from PSNI officers and Gwen Bartley from the Policing and Community Safety Partnership
The P6 and P7 children from St Colman’s PS and Dromore Central PS rolled up their sleeves to learn basic bike maintenance including how to fix a puncture
They put these newfound skills to good use by helping to refurbish bicycles which will be given to local charities to distribute
Chief Inspector Adam Corner said: “This has been a great learning experience for these children who worked really well together and should be very proud of what they’ve done
“The bikes were donated by the community and local businesses through the project partners
"The children then set to work to restore them to their former glory
"These good-as-new bikes have now been given over to International Meeting Point Belfast to donate to people in need of this transport
the children have also received life-saving road safety advice from our officers and Gwen Bartley from the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP)
“This has been a positive example of us engaging well within our neighbourhoods and our thanks to the children who have impressed us all with their enthusiasm
The wheels for this project were put in motion by the area’s neighbourhood policing team initially as an anti-social behaviour diversion project back in 2022
It has been part-funded and supported by Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon PCSP
Emma Little-Pengelly said: “This is a great example of partnership success in the Dromore area
"From the schools involved to the various agencies
including Dromore Chamber of Commerce and the Policing and Community Safety Partnership
this project is giving children really useful practical skills and teaching them road safety in a very memorable way while truly giving back to their town and local area
“I’d like to congratulate all involved and the local officers for their efforts in setting up this initiative
My praise also goes to the children involved for their hard work.”
of local business JR Magill Cycles which has been operating in Dromore since 1904
provided the expertise and guidance on basic bike maintenance to the young people involved.
said: “The Bike Project was an event we were looking forward to and it did not disappoint
"Not only did the pupils involved develop some extremely useful skills regarding bicycle maintenance and repairs
they also had the opportunity to learn valuable lessons in road safety
"All of this was achieved whilst having the opportunity to foster and grow friendships with our neighbouring school
Thank you to all involved in both the planning and delivery of this event.”
said: “We were delighted to be involved in this programme
as it has benefited our children in so many ways
"They gained practical skills which will remain with them for life
they formed new friendships and importantly they're left with a sense of pride in the contribution they've made to helping others in their local community
"We hope to be involved in more projects like this in the future as it brings our young people together in such a positive way."
Thomas Ernest Reddick, known as Ernest, was sentenced at Craigavon Crown Court to defraud Lisburn Baptist Church over nearly a decade to late 2021.
Reddick, of Diamond Road in Dromore, previously pleaded guilty to 12 counts of fraud by false representation and one of false accounting at an earlier hearing.
A director at CMC Accountants, Reddick took congregation donation money to “to prop up (his) accountancy business”, the PSNI said, he was sentenced to two years, one in custody, one on licence.
Police were contacted by a pastor in November 2021 who reported the congregation’s treasurer since 2012, had admitted taking money from church bank accounts.
Reddick also confessed to “making false accounts to disguise the fact that he had taken the money”, a PSNI spokesperson said.
“The member of the congregation, later confirmed as Ernest Reddick, was an accountant and had used his position of trust to create a web of false transactions.
“After a long and detailed investigation, it was established that the total amount lost to the church was more than £410,000."
Police said “donations from the congregation, hard-working people, were used” Reddick did pay back the money in full.
“However, we should not underestimate the impact of his offending on those who put their faith in him,” the spokesperson said.
“We would encourage the public to come forward if they believe that they may have been the victim of a similar crime. We will listen to you and take your concerns seriously.”

St John’s College Dromore lifted the Danske Bank Bearnageeha Cup at Celtic Park in Derry on Tuesday defeating Dominican Portstewart 2-6 to 0-10 in the final
Goals are always big scores in finals and Aaron Mc Donnell’s effort late in the second half proved decisive
Patrick Mc Ginley opened the scoring for Dominican and playing wind assisted they moved three clear thanks to a brace of points from Conor Love
Mind you the lead could have been greater but for a brilliant save by Shea Mc Donnell when Conor Love looked like he was sure to hit the net
Dromore eventually got to the pace of the game with points from Harry Mc Menamin and Aaron Mc Donnell before Dominican rounded off the first half scoring with points from Love and Fergal Murray to leave the half time score 0-6 to 0-3 in favour of the Derry school
The second half was close and competitive with Dominican hanging on to the lead and looking as if they would be able to keep the Dromore school at arms’ length
An Oisin Colton goal levelled the scores however and with the wind in their backs St
However Dominican dug deep and a brace of converted frees from Fergal Murray had them in front again
It was now a test of character and with some astute switches by St John’s coaches Jimmy Mc Cloughan and Aidan Logue the Tyrone school plundered a goal courtesy of Aaron Mc Donnell to put them in front for the first time
Dominican went for broke but found the St John’s defence in resolute form as the Tyrone school held on to win 2-6 to 0-10
